The slap guitar thumb technique thing was quite a mystery to me for a long time but I really wanted to learn how to give songs more energy and rhythm like a lot of fingerstyle guitarists I had seen. It took me a while to learn but I'm SO glad I did. Using your thumb to slap that guitar takes a long to time to become comfortable but It's really not as hard as it seems when you start.
If you want more video game covers and original compositions on the classical guitar like this one, TABS, and general acoustic remix shredding, this is the place spot for all your video game guitar covers needs. Smack a sub. Smack a bell. Smack yourself.

guitar!
who else knew before clicking on this that it would have a Davie reference hahaha
100%
Approved.
i want to like the comment but 69 is a davie reference
everyone.
Pretty sure he owns the word slap at this point
Besides being hilarious, you're actually a damn good teacher. More!
that intro sounded familiar...
davie ?
Thank you for this. People like you who willingly give up their time to help other people out don't get enough credit so seriously thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was trying to play Jonathan Edward's Sunshine and slapping all my strings and wasn't keeping up with the rhythm. Focusing on the thumb hitting the low E string is a game changer.
Appreciate those new editing skills! You've come a long way, Sam :)
Greetings from Germany! 😊
Ah, man, I was laughing throughout the whole video
SLAPP LIKE NOW!
I needed this one, as I'm trying to learn it to use it on my compositions, and start a war against Davie504 hahahahaha when I get to a good level.
Good stuff. After 13 years of playing melodic metal on electric guitar, I finally wanted to get into chord melody and your videos and tab database on Patreon are helping me learn some new tricks. Keep up the good work.
please keep making more videos like this. its really super helpful and makes me want to play guitar more. I'm 29 and ive been playing since i was 14, thats more than half my life! pretty crazy to realize that, i've never done anything this long, actually. anyway ive spent most of my guitaring years playing the same stuff over and over slowly getting better and learning new techniques here and there. i just recently started slapping, this video really drove home some points that i was starting to figure out on my own. you're a legend brah. thanks for slappin huard
Just started working on Guile's theme and I have been struggling with this. This video was a perfect help. I am indeed a beginner all over again. Thanks.
I really love the way you're making this series of "guitar lesson"! God tham bro! You made me laugh while I was slapping my guitar! You're the man! Love you!
I love that flowers of antimony was your go-to example, it's really perfect for this
The editing is on point, this is made with a lot of care, thank you man!
SAM THANK U FOR THIS VIDEO
Realizing I needed to add a flick to hit individual notes instead of whole chords helped me realize this technique so now I can refine it! I’ve been meaning to add this ti my repertoire for a while man.
Thanks for this man. I've always had such a hard time with this technique and it's always limited what I can learn. This helped a lot, even for someone who has been playing guitar for 20+ years. Please keep making these kind of tutorial videos. The way you explain everything is very easy to understand. Keep it up dude.
Also can I request A Cool Reception from Shovel Knight? Easily my favorite track from that amazing OST.
I used to dread and get so frustrated from strings ringing out that I didn't want to play. Now I've realized that it's just another huge area of skills to learn; you've gotta get creative as Sam said. You have a toolkit that can help you mute those strings, and you use creativity to find the best way for you. There's often many ways to go about it. Love the vid Sam! Definitely have to try this out.
I needed this. Now I can take on Slam Shuffle!
i'm so happy i can finally know how to properly give my guitar a good slap - thank you, sam!
I've been doing this for several years. I just kind of picked it up on my own, so I learned it kind of slowly. I'm still not amazing at it, but it is really cool to do. I think I originally learned it because of certain songs that did it and I wanted to try it. There's also even crazier slapping, like what Andy Mckee does (I like his song "Drifting"). Also, Ioved the Davie504 reference. Before I clicked on the video, the thumbnail and title made me think of him. He's such an amazing bass player!
Interesting. If you watch Lucas Brar, for example, he does percussion with his right hand in a way that allows him to pluck the strings as normal. Additionally, with his technique you can have percussion even while plucking the low E string.
Both methods seem to have their uses, but I think it’d be interesting to see what you have to say about this other method as well.
Sungha jung is the guitar slapping god
There is actually different way of snare + melody. You need to lay finger(s) on certain strings before incoming snare and then pull it/them together with the snare twisting whole hand. I may video response with this later.
the effects in this video are golden hahah
I really is a whole new thing, but I will practice this. Thanks!
rlly informative, appreciated this man. most videos dont talk abt slapping while doing notes at the same time
I needed this like 4 months ago when i found your channel and tried to learn the sailor moon song
So helpful!. I've watched other videos, and yours is the most clarifying as to what you're really trying to accomplish with this technique. Thx so much!
The editing on this video is just sick.
Outstanding AF.
Wow I love this guy
Dude I've been trying to figure this out for AGES. Thank you so much- you explained this perfectly.
Thank you, this is tough and cramps the hell out of my hand. I need to learn this, its tough controlling the sound. I'm glad you made this video!
You and Beyond the Guitar need to collab on some stuff. Like trade vids or something. It's like Batman and Joker coming together to solve a mystery... Superman and Lex Luthor... Link and Ganon... Hunters and vegans... you get the idea.
Beyond the Griffin 😂
@@_dekanijo Exactly!
Hey bro! Thank you very much for you explanation. it is just what i was looking for! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing, your tutorial is what I am looking for, hope to send more technique.
Been trying to learn the "slap" but couldn't figure how to do it. Thank you for your lesson.
Thank you, now I can rip Primus on my acoustic all day long
I got a couple tunes where I slap the string while simultaneously producing a bass tone. Fuck wit ya boi
Bro this was super useful and well taught. Thank you. I’ve been doing it all wrong, making a weird slapping sound with my nails against the strings vs the strings hitting the frets like you taught. It all makes sense now!
Nice reference to my bassgod. Great video The Judge
alternate timeline: Chris Evans teaches guitar lessons
Yes! Keep making more such non serious jokies😂😂😂
exactly the video I needed, I love you dude!
Despite the humor, this is actually a super solid lesson. Nice one, bro!
this editing is sublime
Word. Left hand muting is like half of all guitar playing. Nice!
Ha I had to figure out myself how you were doing those more advanced slaps watching you in slow-mo. I'm glad you covered this!! It is super tough at first but I'm getting a lot better at it. Very helpful tips here . ty
Thanks it is super helpful!!!

This was super helpful! thank you!
"Get comfortable with the middle finger" - I sense a big FU coming
He about to give you a therapy session
as a piano player we have keys to hit all the notes...I look at guitar and its like u open the raw belly of a piano and all the strings are just there and you gotta find all the notes and hold those strings down...I can't do it. really cool and wish I had started on guitar young but my parents didn't want me to be a rocker
Literally was just learning slap for the first time the when you uploaded this. How is your timing this good.
thank u so much sir😍
Thank you for this video i learn a lot
Nice video Sam 👍👏
i getting better at this basic slapping but i dont see how one squeezes them into a finger picking song you know. its like there isnt enough time to slap.

Thank you so much i can slap the guitar now ToT❤❤❤

Ah, the flick. I play the 5 string banjo, and we call that the clawhammer. Same principle, and it's how we get a percussive sound.

Wise choice!
LOL this made me laugh but thank you so much for explaining this technique 😄
I love when you talk dirty, Sam Griffin.
When i try to do that on my guitar it sounds like shit, do I need strings with higher tension maybe?
Sam! I got some of your tabs but they are a little too hard for me, i understand they are advanced. but I wanted to ask for your recomendation on some beginner pieces, that being your arrangements or just another song that you recommend. thanks a lot in advance, cheers
