How do I master slapping people who disturb me when I'm playing fingerstyle?

this is amazing!!! i'm having so much fun working this in to my chords, especially the trick about starting with just the bass note. learning to move your hand around the neck while practicing little baby slaps is super helpful. you break things down really well. instead of something simple becoming so much harder than you think it would be, you take awesome things and make them simple. i'd be way too overwhelmed to try this otherwise! instead of doing something halfway and giving up, i'm actually working my way through it and becoming confident. thank you!

신강문 Haha :) That's an acoustic guitar by the way :D Just so that you won't get confused, most classical guitars have very different headstocks compared to an acoustic. If you see another guitar that has a different looking headstock compared to his, it might be a classical :)

What Helped me:
assign each finger to a string.
Ring finger on high E
middle on B
index on G.
Then your thumb manages the 3 bass strings. Then when your fingers land, they must always land in the same place, and whichever needs picking can pick the string. Set a very slow metronome to 40 bpm. Keep saying “Pick and a slap” x 100. It’ll start flowing and you’ll get it nailed down.

Great lesson as usual. I think the big problem for a lot of folks including myself is that on more complex arrangements we focus on the left hand and what strings to pick with the right, so adding slapping to the mix complicates things even more. I hope to get it eventually, but even if not, most of your arrangements sound great regardless of percussion.
Excellent lesson. I am surprised though that you didn't explain exactly how to slap, I mean which part of the hand/thumb hits the strings? how to move the wrist or arm to effect the slap. These details make a big difference.

AllAroundFlight slap with the fleshy part of your thumb. The sides are okay but it feels a bit awkward and the nail can get in the way if you turn to much. The front (where your fingerprint is) can work but it's still a bit awkward and that part might be a bit callous. I use the part in between there kinda at a 45° angle, between the side and front of my thumb.
I can slap, I can even slap with chords, but to slap with at the same time as one note is fucking impossible, I've been trying for a few days now, this is really damn hard good luck to everyone else but I'm not going to be proficient in this technique anytime soon!!
But how does the slap itself work? Is it just hitting the strings with your nails? Because when i do that it sounds horrible, sometimes it doesn't even sound at all
Practice, practice and practice.... until it becomes second nature, then practice some more as there is always something to learn.
This is an excellent exercise for percussion, im frustrated. Good. It means I have more to learn
i still have trouble picking whyle slapping, is there any way i need to position my thumb in, picking multiple notes whyle slapping appears impossible

no it's not, maybe intermediate.
Hey, I struggled a bit with that too, but here are a few approaches you might try:
-Thinking of the slap as a "byproduct" of the pick, i.e. letting the momentum of the picking motion guide your thumb towards the strings;
-Thinking of your thumb as a sort of "anchor" to move your picking finger(s) towards during the split second it's resting on the strings.
Maybe this doesn't do the trick for you or anyone else at all, but for me, alternating between those two (mental) approaches to the technique seems to make it a whole lot easier.

I already apply slap in my play. But sometimes the sound pressure is inconsistent between loud or soft slap.

I've just started learning to play a new song which requires slap and pull, i got so confused i started looking for lessons. I found your video and find it very instructive. Thank you, i'm totally going to master your exercises first.
I would suggest that you play the whole examples instead of interrupting them. Play the whole "Sweet child of mine" example, the "Stand by me" example or the "Californication" example. You can do this at the beginning of the video or in the middle of it, but by not doing that, we only get the half idea of how this can sound, thus making the lesson incomplete. I hope you find this suggestion helpful and constructive. Nevertheless, this is a good lesson.

Should the picking finger be resting on the lower string if we want to increase the accuracy of picking individual string while slapping?
Or are you doing it it free stroak?
Note: I mean the higher string by lower string in the guitar language So for example, should the picking finger be resting on the high E string after picking the B string while slapping?

Does anyone have suggestions/ideas for slapping while playing the open A base string (the 5th string) besides slapping with your upper fingers on the upper string while plucking with the thumb? I need to do that in some songs I am working on, but on my nylon strings, slapping the top strings doesn't sound anything like the regular thumb slaps... Thanks!

Sir, your lesson is amazing. My issue is not slapping, it's the fact that it comes out loud while playing. Even yours is coming out too loud while playing. Most artists like Ed Sheeran control the slap sound in a way that it doesn't sound too loud disrupting the harmony of the song.

Stop. This is not how you play a guitar, if you think otherwise you don’t know how a guitar works.
Your lessons are awesome and unique. There aren't a bunch of people teaching these kinds of techniques on youtube.
How in the holy hell did you practice getting the slap and pick technique, it feels alien....
When you hit the string with your thumb and your going to pluck one note do you swipe down or up on the string
