I am definitely going to practice this routine. I confuse myself during practice. It's not easy for me to look at my instructor underwater. I also read another viewer comment regarding being nerves at the deeper end. I agree with this comment. You stated to practice in shallow water first. When I tried in the past, I continued to til backward or go underwater. My instructor told me to push my pelvis upwards and still continue to til backward. Any recommendation? Thank you so much for your videos. It's so helpful to start fresh and remind calm.
This one isn't an easy skill to learn, so keep practicing. Since you aren't able to keep your body in a vertical position, it tells me that you are unable to keep balance in water. Yes, only practice makes perfect!!! Practicing your eggbeater kick puts a huge load on your feet ankles and calf muscles, so, if you put in the real work, you will be sore. Do the move slowly, first, then add speed and power.

@@easyflowing I've been working on the timing with the kicks and sculling for the past hour. Haha. I will have to see later how I get along in my pool.
The main thing is to keep the rhythm of your eggbeater kick. Forearm motion of sculling, can have separate rhythm from kicking. I’d love to hear how it goes in the water. Please keep me posted!
I was so confused by the leg movement. This helped out a ton. i almost drowned 3 times back when i didnt know how to tread water. this was really helpful. I also have a question, Do you recommend floating in your back or treading water?
I am glad you have survived the water when you didn't know how to tread it! It is great to hear that my instruction video was helpful in your learning process. I recommend learning both treading water and a back float. The sequence does matter, though. I prefer to teach how to balance in water vertically first and only afterwards I teach floating. Because one cannot survive in open water without knowing where to go, and being able to keep the head upright in water (just enough to figure out where safety is) is a priority in a survival situation in my opinion.
I am so glad to hear it!!! Thank you for your feedback. Just keep practicing and eventually your muscles will remember the move so that you won’t even have to think about it. 💪
thank you very much ,elena ,for the response ,tommorrow ,when i will go to he pool,i will try yoour way ,before i use the freestyle vertical kiks for floating ,but i like this way ,i think that it's very helpful more than the other way ,but it's seems a little difficult ,no?
Vertical flutter kicking is very difficult to sustain for a prolonged period of time. As you master your eggbeater kick, treading water will be much easier!
Please do it with your instructor. I foolishly tried to do it alone on the deepest part of pool and just drowned. Saved by God's grace. But yes swimming is great
I am glad you are safe. In this video or in the description, I did suggest that one first needs to learn how to do sculling. Plus, new skills in deep water can be tried only if you can get yourself to and from a floating position and in a presence of a lifeguard. Also, you can always learn Eggbeater kick in the water that is chest deep. It’s unnecessary to try it in a deep end of a pool.
I am glad to hear back from you. The more you practice consistently, the faster this kick will become second nature to you. After awhile, you won't have to think about what you do in this kick, you'll just do it. So, practicing every day will get you desired result faster. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for your instructions. I don't know why I can't really make a circular motion with my legs when I'm fully inside the water. I will try your method this afternoon. Thank you.
You are welcome. Keep in mind that the circular movement is from your hip joint, not the knee. Try this exercise in the water while holding onto the wall with your hands and one leg at a time. Go slowly first because you you need to get the movement into your muscle memory. You'll get it, you just need a lot of practice. 🙌
@@easyflowing That's so sweet of you for responding. Thanks for clarifying that it's from my hip not my knee. I will re-watch your video. I'm going to the pool this afternoon. Can't wait to try your technique.

@@easyflowing You are so nice. Thank you for your support and encouragement. Okay, I just got back from the pool. I tired your egg beater kicks holding onto the wall in a 13-feet deep pool. For the first time, I was able to move my legs in circles (instead of in and out) in a relaxing manner. Once I added my arms, I could do 3 seconds at best. However, I learned that I can use scissors kicks (I know it's the least efficient way), and I was able to do it for 1 minute TWICE!! I'm so happy. Next time, I will try adding egg beater kicks. I'm now feeling more confident. I think it's just a matter of time getting the egg beater kicks. Thank you. BTW, I have watched hours of tread water videos on YT, yours is the most graceful.
Yes, it's like rubbing your stomach in circles with one hand and tapping your head with the other. If your sculling is strong, then you could try alternating the movement of your hands. However, your sculling will be stronger if you work your hands together in unison. It takes practice
@@easyflowing LOL, I tried doing that rubbing the stomach thing and it's much easier and I can do it no problem, but the sculling while doing the egg beater sitting down on a chair is hard... :)
Wow! On a chair!? That's the next level of practice 🙌 Practicing it on a chair is definitely difficult. -Warm up, first. -Go slowly. Exercise #1. Eggbeater kick with R arm sculling. Exercise #2. Eggbeater kick with L arm sculling. Exercise #3. Eggbeater kick with both arms sculling going alternating (one moves in, the other out). Exercise #4. Very slowly, Eggbeater kick with both arms going simultaneously (both arms move in at the same time and out at the same time). In the water it will feel differently anyway because body position and the pressure will not be the same. Please let me know how it goes.
Practice these movements on dry land, if you don't have access to the water before your test. Plus, visualize yourself making these movements in the water. Visualization work is very important! Please, let me know how it goes!

Are you learning the Eggbeater kick for water safety or there's another purpose?
@@easyflowing For safety, comfort and one day for the lifeguard badge 😊 Thanks!

Oh, for a lifeguarding test, you'll need to do the Eggbeater kick with the hands out of the water. A lot of fun work ahead of you.

Why are you learning how to tread water?
@@easyflowing yeah.. in an eight ft pool. Here in Ghana, where I live, there are not many good swimming tutors. So I depend on RUclips for tips and hacks... So far your threading video best explains the egg beater kick.. I would practice again this Friday.. I would let you know my progress 😊😊

I am happy you found this video helpful! How is your learning process going?
I would suggest for you to practice these exercises, they will help you with strengthening your muscles for balancing:

Awesome video thanks
You are welcome. I am glad you liked it. Why are you learning Eggbeater kick?
@@easyflowing Because I got tired after swimming few minutes. I need something to make myself stand in the water. Other water treading techniques requires more efforts I heard
Absolutely, after getting good at it, this treading kick requires the least energy expenditure in comparison with the flutter and breaststroke kicks.

Most helpful video. Most videos i see is the instructor is already submerged and I can’t figure out exact position of my legs. I’ll try this technique. I’m not new to swimming and I even took swimming lessons (that’s a long story) but I still didn’t conquer my fear of swimming in the deep end of the pool

I like how this video is explained it helps but after trying to learn it after 3 days I got better but I still end up sinking and need my hands to stay afloat

I've watched so many videos and none have been this helpful. So for that, thank you.
The main thing is to keep the rhythm of your eggbeater kick. Forearm motion of sculling, can have separate rhythm from kicking.
I’d love to hear how it goes in the water. Please keep me posted!
Thanks you are the best
Thank you!
Are you learning for water safety or for a lifeguarding certification?

Love your video, l am trying to do iT my self. And Right confusing l can still do iT. Thank you so much for sharing this video. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
I am so glad to hear it!!! Thank you for your feedback. Just keep practicing and eventually your muscles will remember the move so that you won’t even have to think about it. 💪

Hello. Great! Please let me know how it goes in the pool.
thank you very much ,elena ,for the response ,tommorrow ,when i will go to he pool,i will try yoour way ,before i use the freestyle vertical kiks for floating ,but i like this way ,i think that it's very helpful more than the other way ,but it's seems a little difficult ,no?
Vertical flutter kicking is very difficult to sustain for a prolonged period of time. As you master your eggbeater kick, treading water will be much easier!
ok,thanks elena i try to learn it

Why are you learning Eggbeater kick?
Amazing!
Thank you 🙏 Are you learning Eggbeater kick for open water survival or for more confidence in the water?
Please do it with your instructor. I foolishly tried to do it alone on the deepest part of pool and just drowned. Saved by God's grace. But yes swimming is great
I am glad you are safe. In this video or in the description, I did suggest that one first needs to learn how to do sculling. Plus, new skills in deep water can be tried only if you can get yourself to and from a floating position and in a presence of a lifeguard.
Also, you can always learn Eggbeater kick in the water that is chest deep. It’s unnecessary to try it in a deep end of a pool.
Swimming And Living absolutely. Your vids are inspiring. Just as I said my foolishness
Thank you 🙏

remains difficult on leg movements. do I have to repeat this exercise every day or every few days?

Please keep me posted on your progress!
@@easyflowing That's so sweet of you for responding. Thanks for clarifying that it's from my hip not my knee. I will re-watch your video. I'm going to the pool this afternoon. Can't wait to try your technique.

Here, I am using Eggbeater kick to get to the other side of a lake and give a few more tips.
Hi, how to coordinate the sculling with the movements of the legs during egg-beater? This is challenging. Thanks
Yes, it's like rubbing your stomach in circles with one hand and tapping your head with the other.
If your sculling is strong, then you could try alternating the movement of your hands. However, your sculling will be stronger if you work your hands together in unison. It takes practice
Basically, each leg circle is a full sculling stroke.
@@easyflowing LOL, I tried doing that rubbing the stomach thing and it's much easier and I can do it no problem, but the sculling while doing the egg beater sitting down on a chair is hard... :)
Wow! On a chair!? That's the next level of practice 🙌
Practicing it on a chair is definitely difficult.
