Treading water can definitely be tough, but don't get discouraged! It's a skill that takes practice and patience to master. Keep at it, and you'll get better over time. You've got this! Just follow the tips in the video and practice.
Treading water is really tough for beginners because of the stamina issues. Start to work more on your stamina. Do some out of the water workouts like jogging, squats, jumping ropes to increase your stamina.
Thank you for your explanation, especially on the part that it is normal if we cannot do it overly long. May I ask though.. I see people on the ocean can vertically tread water with their head out for quite a long time. Is it because it is easier to float in salt water than in the pool?
It's great that you found the video helpful! Yes, the salt content in the ocean water helps you float better than in the pool water. But it takes effort and practice to keep treading water and breathe properly due to the waves crashing on your face. Better to use life jacket in any open water.
@@RocketSwimming yh I was commenting on the fact that he said there is no gravity in the water...so the gravity is there but there is an opposing force of bouyancy that keeps you up
I can freestyle like a missile and can float freely on my back for days but cannot tread water. I see what he's doing and I've put it to practice but it's not happening. I sink like a tank.
You're already rocking the freestyle and floating, so you're definitely on the right track! Treading water can be tricky at first, but don’t get discouraged-you're not alone in feeling this way. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding the right rhythm and technique that clicks for you. Keep practicing, and try focusing on small, controlled movements with your legs and hands. You've got this! 💪
That's great! Being able to float for long time is the best way to survive in water. Treading water is exhausting but may help you sometimes. Keep practicing.
It's possible but you my hit the floor. You can try egg beater kick by leaning forward to increase distance between floor and your feet. I would suggest a deeper pool.
The only way I can get my head above the surface is if I fill my lungs with air. I start to sink as soon as I exhale. The only way I can stay afloat in one place is by going up and down as I fill my lungs withe air and exhale. I'm trying to move my hands and legs as you've described. But I still sink as soon as I exhale. Any tips on what I can try to tread water? P.S: Thanks for clarifying that treading water is a technique that can only be used for a short period.
It sounds like you're doing well by focusing on lung buoyancy, which is a great start. To help stay afloat while treading water, try these tips: Stay Relaxed: Tension can make you sink. Stay as relaxed as possible. Sculling Motion: Use a gentle back-and-forth motion with your hands, palms facing downward, to create lift. Bicycle Kick: Move your legs in a bicycle pedaling motion, which is efficient for staying afloat. Timing: Try to exhale gently and gradually, maintaining enough buoyancy as you do. It can take time to master, but keep practicing! And remember, it's normal to feel more secure with fuller lungs. Good luck!
