INFJ here, I need a list (with SPECIFIC item descriptions), have a certain amount of time I can spend, and I need to be going for other people, that's how I manage to get in-and-out in a reasonable time frame. If I'm there by myself with no directions or time frame, then things can go a bit differently. I'll wander, have an internal crisis because my favorite food item is out of stock and now I need to figure out how to supplement it, so then I'll pretend to be looking for things and do loops around the isle when really I just need time to think but standing still and staring straight ahead would seem weird. Once the shopping is done I'll head to the checkout, covertly ogle at the people checking out in other lanes and then try my best to be endearing to the checkout clerk for fear of appearing to brooding. I wrap it all up with loading my groceries into the car, putting mine as well as nearby derelict carts back into the cart corral, (but no more than two, I don't want the employee's collecting carts to chase me down and tell me to not do their job) and then drive off into the sunset only to remember that I never got milk, which is what I came for. So yeah, you're probably right.
I'm making right now about replying to these and other comments. It will be titled, "Video Comment Reply Plan 1" Thank you. Great comment! I enjoyed this one.
Ha ha...we have some things in common.. really! I have those times when I bring a list, but I leave room in my mind to add anything else that might come up in my meandering as I commence my looking at stuff phase, (excluding "cute cat shirts"). I also go without a list at times.. which means even more circling and more meandering around the isles! I do stand still and look lost in space when I need to improvise, but make sure I am not blocking the isles or shelves..And I loathe appearing to brood in the checkout, cashiers are people too, and I always put a stray cart away, as I am concerned that someone may need a parking space, or the wind might roll it into other cars. But I don't really care if the employees tell me not to do their job, but I do appreciate it when one approaches me to take my cart. Always, always forget something when I go without a list.. and I am not shy about going back in to get it, unless I am already home when I remember. I did not realize that I did those things, because who thinks about the "way" they shop! Good video Mr. Talking with Famous People! :).
Horrible Heresy Wow how accurate that is. I refer to groceries as the gruesome chore, because it takes soooooo long. I had to start planning menus and making lists just to not take all day. So much easier to shop for other people. When it's just me, I want to cry. What food do I like? Who am I? I'm not even hungry. And I always get home and realize I forgot something. I just can't go without a list now.
Spot on for this Infj...I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. Meandering around, spending money on shit you don't need LOL totally guilty. And if by chance I make a list and actually remember to bring it with me, no fucking way am I reading it and following it through the store. Every single time I go shopping it takes me forever and I leave with way more than I anticipated by I don't care what store I go into the dollar store grocery store whatever I always buy a ridiculous amount of crap most of which I don't need it did not anticipate buying most of which is for other people, my children my family my close friends LOL thank you for this
Fuck you this was awesome! I am a male INFJ and you hit it on the tee. Half the time I go shopping it's because I need a few things. I'll walk into the store and grab one of the things I need, then I'll start walking around browse, grab more things I like. By the time I get home I'll realize I totally forgot at least one or two of the items I was going there to get, and with limited ambition will wait until I REALLY need it and do the whole thing over again.
This is spot ON! I hate going shopping, but when I finally do, I have tried the list! Sorry doesn't work I still get to much of everything I don't need, and I think of everyone in my house, it's like I shop for the world at one time, thinking he or she might like this! I will look at everything, read it and it takes me forever, so I usually go by myself because if someone else goes along the are like come on you got enough or they just complain period..so I would say yes this is correct, although I know I will still be thinking about this now for days and analyzing it , so now I just have one more thing to explore thank you and I'm going now or else I type all day God bless
I also try to take a list with me; however, I do get sidetracked by "shiny" objects... I will tell my husband that I am going to get a particular item, but hey, can I help it if I see something interesting? The up side; my husband is learning patience!
this sounds pretty much right - I cannot lie . I only go to the grocery store with a list because I slowly add items to a note in my phone during the week. Other than that I would just be buying whatever I THINK I need while spending forever in the grocery store. I feel like I need everything, always.
Is anyone else TERRIBLE at making decisions... I am. I can’t hardly make a simple decision at the grocery store even though I very well know what I want! It’s like I have buyers remorse before buying, even the thought of buying. Guilt for no reason, and I never know why I’m feeling it. It’s like I won’t let myself be happy, even if just for getting groceries.... but this could come from growing up with an abusive father, maybe not so much just from being INFJ. Oh well
Mermaid I am terrible at making decisions because my mind thinks of so many possibilities. I vascillate between at least two opposites. I see all angles. I am CONSTANTLY buying and returning things. I can't buy something and leave it alone. I think of reasons I shouldn't have it or why I don't need it. Then I go between that and thinking I deserve it or how it's useful important to have. I return half the things I buy. I even know that when I buy it. It's frustrating and maddening. And I waste so much time with returning. It sucks!!
My mom is an ENFP and I’m an INFJ. It’s just the 2 of us. No structure in our house. Lol I just bought a shirt with cats on it at the store today... we’re trying to diet but we keep ending up with donuts in the house...
I am an INFJ and I wish I could attach a photo I made a year ago. I was wondering around the grocery store so I turned on mapmyrun to see what I actually looked like shopping. It is basically a pile of yarn! Your post is spot on and on a side note, I buy a lot of cottage cheese. :)
A fellow cottage cheese fan! Now that's strong evidence for sure of your being a fine person. There aren't really a lot of out there, you know. Most people think cottage cheese is gross.
I suppose most INFJs shop as you described. But I’ve been a pitch fork shopper with a list for many years having four children. “In and out in a flash!” Now that they’re grown, though, I’m slowing down and enjoying the meandering quite a bit. I enjoy a very refined diet I’ve implemented gradually over the past fifteen years.
I know this video is old, but as an INFJ I would sometimes make a list but just end up leaving it in the car or at home. So instead I have a very general list of things I need (I need something for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), but other than that I don't have much of a plan. And very often I would pick up things outside of that list like a new toothbrush or something generally outside of what I need to get through the week.
As an infj, i hate to walk around the mall. i have to have an idea of what kind of clothes and shoes I'm going to buy before going to the mall. i hate lining up for the fitting room and the counter. In the supermarket, I only buy the stuff i need. Everything has to fit within my budget without compromising the quality of the products I buy. And by the way, I like it that you include a picture of the clouds in your video and you saying you wanna reach the sky, that is so INFJ!
Pretty impressive! I never make a list (and when I'd try, I'd forget to look at it), I go grocery shopping on a whim, I am almost always following some nutritional plan or another, and I meander around the store aimlessly browsing for long periods of time- picking up things because something about it popped and caught my eye. I also inevitably forget something important and wind up having to go back the next day. I don't have kids, so I can't speak to that, but your description is scary close to my grocery shopping process.
I always have a list because I add to it from trip to trip. Things I have run out of. My husband writes what he wants on the list, too, which is very specific and detailed. I usually get the wrong thing for him because I don’t read the details on the package-I wind up getting the wrong flavor or whatever. So I tell him to buy his own stuff. I get overwhelmed by toomany details. I can’t figure out how to do things on the computer because finding little things to click on is not intuitive to me. I don’t even see them, let alone click on them to see what they might do.
I know this is old, but yeah you pretty much got it right when it comes to my shopping down to the part of thinking what things would make good gifts, etc. Purchases may or may not be averted by pausing to think "What am I going to do with it when I get home? or How much will this take from my budget?" As far as food goes, sometimes novelty wins over traditional, especially when it comes to selecting produce.
The diet side of things is pretty spot on. Getting things for family is pretty spot on. Use a list as it allows my mind to wonder while making sure I get what is needed (Get distracted by a thought and suddenly forget an item that I remember close to home). Careful with money these days, realise I do not want to be a burden to other people so be responsible.
COTTAGE CHEESE!! Hahahaha I have one sitting on my fridge, never opened it and it’s probably expired now. I have to make lists of stuff I really need because I tend to wander around and go home and get angry for not buying what I needed and wasting money on unnecessary shit. Also, if I decide I want a new product, I will pull out my phone and google it and read the reviews (and lose track of time by doing so) and then leave the aisle for another one (trying to decide if I should take it or not) and later come back for that product. I shop at Target, so must of my time shopping I spend it on the clothes section, trying to convince myself that I do not need those pants but ending up buying them anyway, only to try them on at home again and deciding that they are not flattering and having to return them the very next day or a week later because I HATE going back to return stuff. Im very indecisive 😭
I think you got it pretty much right . At first I wasn’t sure when you said we don’t use lists. I love lists and being organized but then you mentioned the whole buying for the family causing us to be more list oriented . Yep, that’s me lol. Here lately though , I have a list half the time . I go on a whim the other half the time without a list . I’m exhausted . Been trying to take more time to just be myself and do the things INFJ’s love to do. Problem is I need more time than I have and half the time find myself running off to the store as fast as I can because I have a kid getting off the school bus soon so I have to rush. When I don’t have to be home quickly though I do look at everything else that’s not even what I came for lol. On those days I can turn a one hour trip into two or even a three hour trip. I just love seeing if I can find something neat lol. I hate grocery shopping so it makes it a little more enjoyable to do a little shopping for something fun once I’m done with the boring stuff .
You’re right on just about every point, except I’ve learned over the years that some list is essential. I go when I must, no schedule. I buy two or three times the number of items that are on the list. As well, I often buy 2 of everything, figuring if I need it now, I’ll need it again soon, so I might as well double up so I don’t have to shop again for awhile. In reality, I’m likely to go back to the store again the next day anyway. I’m always on another meal plan. I meander trying to find the things that suddenly pop into my head. I take hours to get the shopping done. I buy gifts for family. I used to buy my kids’ lunch foods by color - all red food, blue food, etc. - otherwise I had no idea what to buy them. I overspend. Also, I organize my items in the cart by category and organize them on the conveyor belt in a categorical manner as well. I hope I don’t run into anyone I know, but I have met and talked to strangers for ages. I put my cart and others away ... ugh, sounds crazy. Thanks for telling me I’m normal, for my type!
I am an INFJ. - Yes, I hate grocery shopping... and shopping in general. I make a list of what is needed, in the order it is kept in the grocery store, a store I know by heart, where stuff is kept. I love structure by the way in general. - On the list are items that I need and that I at present like. I always buy a bunch, so that I am not running out of what I like... My likes go through cycles by the way... There are times, when I crave twice a week pasta, then times where I am hooked on yummy green salads. - So despite that list, which is a must have, my eyes keep wandering... what else do they get?... What is on sale that you might need, but have not thought of, when making that list? .... and I also search my inner for inspiration. :)... So at the end, I end up having more in my cart than I originally wanted. That causes me to next time only get the absolutely minimum of what I need... Lol. ... It is a ride between extremes of... "Today I am treating my self" and on the other hand... "today I need to save the money I spent last time". Hot/ cold... All or nothing mentality... No Luke warm mentality. And you forgot the aspect that INFJ love organization and planning... therefore the list, so nothing is forgotten, because I hate to go to stores. - I only grocery shop once or twice a week. And I hate shopping, because of several reasons... The stress when checking out is the major purpose... All the people waiting in lines to check out too. PS... You don't really get our mentality, how it all is connected to each other ... Lol. There is a total logic, which seems not logical on the surface to others, in what we do and how we do things. ;) Yes, it is a not planned decision to finally go shopping, BUT we do not go unplanned shopping, when our inner finally makes us go. Yes to that our mind is thoughtful of all family members and friends, we know what people like and we want them to be happy.
this is creepily accurate... :D I'm very into health and I'm always trying out new kinds of diets for clear skin etc :,D I hate grocery shopping and usually just go after uni to get some stuff quickly but I always end up getting way more than I planned (like some xmas presets for people and stuff while I'm there)
This video creeped me out as well! Hahaha :)) I’m always trying out new kinds of healthy products for a better lifestyle, also I, too tend to keep everyone’s need in my mind and buy stuff for them and lastly, (at this point I was amazed enough from your accurate description and thought you won’t get me further more) but you nailed it by reminding me that I sure have this ridiculous habit of buying cute (not so much!) cat mugs and other unnecessary stuff as well!! And of course I love to have money and enjoy spending it 😎 That was very good. Thank you very much
This is an older video but I'm going to comment. Yes, I'd say you've hit it. I was raised by a single mom INTJ and so she hammered me with her Te and her crazy Ni Fi loop and I survived and took with me a program of systems along with low self-esteem and a high tolerance for pain. I am impulsive in my shopping and before children I went to shop when it was needed not so very planned ahead. It was a good thing I worked in restaurants. Well, after having kids the efficiency thing kicked in and my signature became short and quick(check out when I used checks) and lists happened, always. Unfortunately, I often forgot to bring the list, including today. Good thing for sharp short term memory. Yes I shop with my kids in mind and I have the dictator mom voice to instill enough anxiety to not squander too much money on cool cat shirts.
you're absolutely right but it could have been said as quickly as this: "I shop by wandering aimlessly and thoughtfully until I reach my limit of time, money, or room in the cart."
That is strange. I'm pretty shure I am INFJ with all that functions. But when it comes to shopping I am very organized. I know what I want to buy without using a list. And usually I just take my path from the first things I need to the last things I need. If I get distracted, this is pretty much planned, as I say "yeah, lets just find new interesting stuff". But usually I just do my regular shopping and leave the shop as soon as possible. Strange, thinking about how that matches my functions...
I know what I need to get... Rarely make a list on paper... It's always in my head like a card catalog... I do have a tendency to get things that are not in my mental catalog as well... But not for myself... And never in a hurry unless someone needs something immediately.
I’m an INFJ and I definitely end up at the shop unplanned (if I’m driving past and I think I can spare 15min I’ll divert to get groceries) however I do have a system of keeping a list: basically whenever I want something I add it to one of my various shopping lists on my phone. Then when I arrive at the store I’ll decide if I really need to get that now, or at all. Mostly I’ll go back and forth aisle to aisle until I’m too tired to carrying my groceries or I get about almost everything on my list (I don’t actually check the list properly though until I’m home a lot of the time) I do give myself at least 1-2 impulse buys each trip though. Little rewards and new foods to try. I’m a minimalist though so that helps me to seriously think about buying something unplanned - if I think it’s going to end up in landfill within a yr I can resist
This is hysterical because it is so true. I only make a list because my ISFJ mom lives with us, and two hours of every weekend has to be devoted to meal planning and shopping, and it makes me want to poke my eyes out with a fork. Four hours later I'm home with 14 cases of sparkling water I bought on a whim.
half right half wrong for me - I'm 19 and living with a family member. I don't mind shopping, and I'm actually a bit orderly about the whole thing. I make a list of what we need, what we want. When we finally get to the store, I do ask her whether there are anything else she's like and such. After getting most, if not everything, that was listed, I _do_ like to meander around for a bit. See what's new and what's changed in the store. The price (lol). My favorite section to wander around is the discount section hahaha and the school supplies section (I like colors and notebooks for some reason). And sometimes, I'll end up buying one or two cheap things that I don't need or won't use very often. So yeah. Half right (actually, for like 60%) and half wrong..
You are all absolutely right. From meat ....cheese.....shirt.....kid's likings.......wanting and spending money in order to make others happy.......not liking responsibilities Yet being responsible all the time....forgetting self all the time. Absolutely . I wonder how come you know ???? You must be an infj for sure. Love to know lm not alone. Bless you
I think that you are spot on, except that I usually really enjoy going food shopping once I am there. I procrastinate going to the shop until I am about to run out of something important. I have never turned up at any shop with a list. Once I'm there I will potter around the supermarket in no particular hurry, and buy a whole bunch of stuff that I don't need, and sometimes forget to get the thing that I specifically went to the shop to get, and then need to go back. I also always ask the store employees where things are when in unfamiliar shops, and then find that I've already walked past it several times. One other thing is that I usually wait to go at night when the store is quieter, rather than try to deal with crowds and people barging past, blocking aisles with their trolleys, and having kids running around, unless I really need something urgently.
I've gone to the store with a list, at my husbands insistence. I've referred to said list and actually purchased what was on it, as I've ventured through the many varied isles scoping out whatever catches my eye, particularly most every discounted item and other bargain. Do I purchase whatever catches my eye, absolutely NOT; I purchase what catches my eye that is also a stellar bargain or discount, ha ha. Btw, worst shopping trips are when my spouse is "on a mission" i.e after specific items only; best shopping trips are on my own, when I've time to spend.
You nailed it for me ... I'm a mother and I always make sure the kids and my husband have what they want or need and tend to forget a lot of what I may have wanted for myself unfortunately at the same time wonder around buying random crap we really don't need
I "believe" I'm an INFJ and I personally don't like to wander when shopping, I always prefer to go having a general idea of what I need and I let my intuition guide me on what I need in the store. I might wander if I'm going without a game plan but I MUCH prefer and usually do go in with a game plan in mind. I shop MUCH better with a specific budget in mind. I am the master of budgeting without skimping on quality. Another thing is, I don't skimp on quality. I think this because of the Se... as opposed to Si who might go for the store brand cause it's cheaper, I don't feel comfortable buying something unless it's name brand. I'm not a fan of off brand stuff
You nailed it. Unless I'm responsible for a dish for Thanksgiving or pot luck, I pretty much wing it. If I'm short on time - meaning a deadline is looming, I can get in and out faster than most (I think). But otherwise I'm wandering, thinking, reading labels, feeling clueless, and buying shirts with cats on them, lol. I've wondered more than once, how can I have all these great insights and ideas, but struggle with things like grocery shopping. And yet I'm pretty sure if I had to grocery shop for someone else, I'd probably be pretty good at it. Then all of a sudden my "helper" energy kicks in and it feels easier. Seems like strange dichotomies until you learn about these functions. Kind of amazing.
Yea I like to remember the store and every isle and what's on it that way at home I can write my list down starting with the first isle I need and having it listed in order that way i can get in and out in no time at all. If I don't need an item I don't go on that isle. Makes shopping so much faster and easier. This new store I'm using is so big that I can't seem to remember where everything is, I so miss that. It takes more time and is exhausting.
What a weird and interesting choice of topic!! I just had to hear what you had to say. lol I'd say you were mostly spot on here. As a single INFJ dog owner, most times I only go get groceries when my dog needs something. Generally I don't make lists because I can remember everything I need or remember it when I see it at the store. But sometimes I do make lists and check them off in the aisles. My guess would be I make lists when I'm feeling less social (for efficiency) or worried I will forget something important. But that's just a guess. I do meander and pick up new random things sometimes. I at least like to look at everything so I have that option. As far as diet goes, I tend to cycle through phases but it's more about eating the same few foods for a few weeks and then onto something different. Then the next thing, the next thing and then back to the start again. Probably has to do with my "all or nothing" personality. This video was much more digestible (I guess pun intended) then the intelligence ones but I still thought those were interesting as well. Cheers!
Yesterday I did pick up cottage cheese at the store even tho that's not what was not on the list but...my daughter likes it. Did pick up some cute soft Christmas pj's on impulse 🤦😳( took while to decide which ones, have to get it right) !! Wait 🤔.. what was I talking about was just thinking what she would like for dinner, like to treat her cuz she has been stressed at school! Lol yep...this is me!!! I'm good at wondering stores and spending money!!
I know this video is a little old now but as an INFJ myself I must have a list of everything I need to buy and I try to organize the list by order of the item location in the store so it'll be smooth and quick; it's also mainly so I don't forget anything. However, sometimes I also get additional things besides what I wrote down on the list. I don't like wandering around the grocery store. Grocery shopping for me is a chore and I hate it. On an interesting note though, I think my intuition guides me a bit while shopping because here I'll have a list of pretty much everything my household needs, and then randomly I'll see an item flash right in the front of my mind that was never even on the list, yet it's something we needed. I can be looking at cookies, and then my intuition will randomly stamp dish soap in front of my face lol! I know most people can randomly realize what item they need while at the store that's not on the list, but I think the difference between INFJs and everyone else is we don't even have to think about it. Those items we need will just be punched into our faces while we're looking at something entirely unrelated lol.
I avoid going to the store in person, lots of people = lots of emotions in the air. I mostly shop online. Because I tend to meander in store, I often get strangers trying to socialise and they are often down or lonely. While I look approachable and happy, I want to be left alone because I'm busy mulling things over in my head, planning, creating. I often feel robbed of the energy I was using for myself by strangers who force a deep conversation. Occasionally I meet someone who tops up my energy reserves and I walk away smiling or laughing having made a new friend. I do follow an eating plan and often don't stick to it :) Online is so fast and easy - I fill my online trolley with my basic needs, then I browse the specials and go overboard with all the yummy things I want. Then I delete the majority until I just have one or two treats :) I don't have anyone else to shop for and it definitely makes it less interesting for me - I often just buy something because I know a friend or colleague that would enjoy it and that gives me more purpose.
Several things you have stated are incorrect. Yes, the scenario that an INFJ can be in a grocery store buying food for others and will try to buy what they want, but we will not cross the line on buying them something that they do not need. We are those who want to help so our food choices for others, as for ourselves, would entail more healthy, moderate choices. It's innate in us to try and help others, not hinder them and unhealthy food choices would be a hindrance. It's would put us in a position where we would innately know that we chose an improper food choice for someone else. Also, most of us, besides being introverts/loners, are minimalists and are particular in our choices and not heavy shoppers. It's quality over quantity and being cautious with spending. Being showy is an extrovert quality, not an introvert quality.
INFJ here- I don't spend money on ridiculous things. I'm a saver.. I prefer trips, like vacation saving, Christmas money, etc. I save for specific things. My grocery runs are.. stressful are horrific. Majority of the time I can't go by myself to larger stores. It's way to much stress/panic. I do indeed make lists of everything from grocery lists, to do lists.. I set excessive alarms as reminders. I'm also a writer/ poetry. I was published in a poetry book called Teardrops. I write everyday and hope to one day write my life story- thus far I've not begun because I procrastinate and stop myself. But in the evening stories pop in my head and I write them down; I don't know where it all comes from but I love writing/ poetry. Anyway you are about spot on. 💜 Take care! Oh other things: I'm a perfectionist, there's a place in my house for every little thing. When I shop I even organize the buggy.. even dirty dishes in the dishwasher. It's ridiculous I know.
exactly right for me. When it was just me i shopped exactly how you described. Now that a family is in the picture i do the list and get the things the kids want in order to make them happy/ btw I DO get shit I DO NOT need. I loved the t-shirt example. Last week - Nirvana t-shirt. my size? No... but its a neat shirt. Maybe i will cut it to fit me or maybe I will just hang it on a wall somewhere....
You should glue it on top of a smaller shirt, the graphics of which you dislike, then wear the smaller shirt for size, but it'll have the graphics of the bigger shirt! Thanks for the feedback and for viewing. I'm still somewhat surprised to hear types tell me I got it right. I'm kinda shooting into the dark, given that my personal life examples give me a concrete way to know the manifestation of a type, but unavoidably little insight into the mechanisms driving those displays. The model offers aiming help there, but as above, I still find it surprising when those sights actually work.
I will not make a list under usual circumstances. I tend to analyze prices allot as I want to get the most for my money. I don't like shopping since having kids. Maybe because one of my kids always wants to go home and the other one is trying to plan for me when I'm in the store. I normally put things back that I pick up if out leisurely shopping (unless it is needed or I really want it allot). I prefer to not be broke and be able to have the freedom to go out as a family or with friends over having stuff. Also when I grocery shop I tend to buy extras of things I know I will use after it runs out. So we may have 3 oatmeal, large packs of soap, extra shampoo bottles, extra can goods, basically anything that won't go bad that will keep me from going to the store again. I also tend to stock up on staples that I can use to make anything from scratch, like plain tomato sauce as a base to make pizza sauce, taco sauce, spaghetti sauce or the like. Anything that can make something from nothing because I'm in the mood for it and don't have it on hand. I used to buy things because they were on clearance but found that clearance items are on clearance for a reason. I rarely buy clearance now, unless it is something I would normally buy. Overall for me shopping as well as cooking are things that are a necessary evil, both are repetitive inconveniences that keep me from enjoying more of my day. Ironically, I will bake and completely cover my kitchen in flour and sugar just to make something as equally yummy as it is beautiful, then Instagram it before eating it. lol
I’m INFJ and doing KETOGENIC and organic. I have to read every ingredient on every package. Ppl do not want to shop with me bc I take so much time reading labels. Yes I’m in the store forever and I’m only shopping for me. I have to analyze everything I buy but I will impulse buy also. I think u did a pretty good job.
Sorry to post on an old video, but found this quite entertaining and interesting. A male INFJ here. This described me quite damn well. The "Fuck it, I'm going shopping" especially cracked me up because of how accurate it was. Also I'm really not responsible by nature, quite the opposite. I mean, I'll get the necessities done; usually procrastinating to the last minute. BUT if it's something that someone else is expecting from me, I'm going to get it done and done well.
Yes, this is pretty much my shopping experience. I almost never have a list but when I do, it's because I'm making something to share or some such thing, so that's right on. I also definitely shop on a whim but also when I have money - aka, right after payday. At that point, it's "what can I afford that will last me for two weeks". Usually, I'll have an idea or craving for a certain food and head straight for that. After that, it's whatever struck me while heading for said objective eg., getting the stuff to make French toast because I saw brioche bread while getting the stuff for sandwiches or deciding to get what I need to make Philly Steak Sandwiches because I notice the onions or peppers while getting tomatoes and avocados for the Mexican dish I decided to make. Connections, really, all while trying - and sometimes failing - to meet a technical budget (I never go in with a set amount I can spend in mind beyond "If I go beyond this amount, my bank account will go in the red when rent's taken out.") I've long suspected my budget would be a lot healthier if I, you know, actually bothered making one.
i would say half right half wrong. I think our money spending habits have more to do with our stress levels. When we get over stimulated ( atleast this is true for me ) I will try to spend money to buy things I think will make myself happy or someone else happy ( which in turn makes me happy ). I use to find myself broke very often very quickly because I would constantly be buying this friend something or my brother food ( which is the biggest lmao we always seem to eat out and its mostly because hell ask and I feel obligated to pay for his food ). I do HATE shopping but its like I hate it until I get there. I think about all the negative shit that can happen there and how i dont wanna deal with the people and things but once im there the people sorta disappear and i just sorta do my own thing. I do tend to follow some weird diet that im on at the time because we are always on some weird diet or nutritional thing that makes sense to us for some reason but no one else.. It's also deff not a structured thing and 100% on whim. I BARELY go shopping I think I said in another video you did I use to actually starve myself rather than go but usually once I do get myself there and i shop I feel better about it afterwards than if I just spent extra money eating out. I like to spend money but I never like to actually spend it because then it means I have less money and I never wanna not have money because it makes me feel awkward and insecure like I'll miss out on something now because I don't have that money I could have if i didn't buy 40 dollars worth of fucking pizza and pasta. I think we have a bad habit of spending for other peoples sake and ignoring the consequences of that for ourselves. Most of my debt is from buying things for other people or helping people with money when they needed it and while overall I feel good about it deep down it eats away at me at all the money I spent and the debt I've built up when it could of been avoided but I just can't seem to stop doing it.
Store layout has to be considered. All major stores are designed to keep you in there as long as possible. With isles filled with fire hazard displays that are hard to mange and get around. Its billboard after billboard. The things you need most are spread around the store on purpose. The florescent lights add a sense of endlessness and danger so you will want to stock up on things in reaction subconsciously. Self-check lines also encourage people to go shop more if the lines are long. A control for this would be differently designed store layouts vs convenience stores layouts.
I literally "fly" through grocery stores, scanning Everything I see around me, if I see something I desire it gets thrown in the cart. My instincts tell me what I need at any given time based on cravings. Usually at check out within 5-10 minutes. I'm not indecisive. I can taste/smell based on what I see. I get to taste an entire store of experience every visit, I can overwhelm myself so getting in/out fast is key. I always get olives, pickles, cheese, cottage cheese, organic milk, peanuts/almonds/sunflower seeds/hazelnuts, chicken breast, rice/rice noodles/rice pasta/yogurt the rest is usually comfort food cravings. Mozerella/provolone/Colby/extra sharp cheddar/feta/90%+ organic chocolate. Beef Jerky is zomg good for some reason. It's My #1 comfort food, it hits something deep in me you know that "Grrrr" spot. I know what it is, but idc, it tastes good. I feel bad for cows and chickens, but they taste so good. Pork is gross, pigs make better pets than food.
I never have a list. I kinda know I need to shop when things are kinda low and I just feel like it's time so I just go and I know what I want (vegetarian) but not specifically so I just discover stuff. lmao I make a day out of it(edit:even if I procrastinated this for 2 weeks). I end up putting stuff back I don't need because I literally cannot overspend but I pick up stuff constantly. This was spot on.
I'm at the library and I wanted to laugh out loud a number of times there. I had to stiffle my laugh with my hand over my mouth. I am following certain dietary requirements and I don't like grocery shopping but once i'm there if I don't have a list I will just meander around looking at stuff, aimlessly wandering. I have to compare items to find the best one and if something cute catches my eye like an item with cute little animals on it well, then it is coming home with me. Do not allow me to go thrift shopping or in to a discount shop because I will just buy little things for the sake of buying them. I have noticed that I have to pick up and touch things a lot and analyse and compare the packaging and prices etc... I do write lists so I don't forget key things and so long as I remember to bring it, I will follow it but I once I've got the key items I like to peruse the shelves and that's when I can get a little lost meandering around. (I'm an INFJ)
Nailed it! Except I do love grocery shopping (I am a chef) and will take forever in the grocery store looking at everything and reading all the labels. I occasionally make a list, just to say I did, but then rarely use it. I buy all of my mom's food first and then shop for myself.
Exactly right for me. I'm 19 and still live with my mom. She busy the groceries most of the time but every once in a while I decide to buy my own. Usually when I decide I want to start eating healthy. I went on an organic kick for a while that lasted about 6 months. When I do go, I love going. I will look up some recipies before going because, like you said, the diet plan doesn't last long. So I haven't really had too much experience cooking it. 😂 I do usually take a good hour and end up with a mere 4 bags lol!Though I do enjoy it when I go. It feels like a "start to something great." Never works haha!
Hate shopping of any kind. I start strong and fly through at lightning speed but then I just hit with like toilet paper. I will be there about 3 days figuring out what to buy. My is yelling "come on college!".
I too was drawn in by this topic... I have always had difficulty with shopping. I don't know why I've never heard of these personality types before, but being INFJ would certainly explain a lot relating to my life experiences. I have pretty severe social anxiety (at times) and often have difficulty among crowds. I have sought help through self medicating and through more acceptable means through mental health professionals and have been labeled with a plethera of personality disorders to include OCD, IED, ADHD, BI-Polar and have suspected possible BPD. Pretty much all over the place emotionally with severe anxiety and bouts of depression. I also suck at relationships and holding a job for any length of time. I have not taken the MBTI test, but Being INFJ would seem to make sense as it kind of takes all my "isms" and folds them into a tidy little package which describes me to a tee. Why have none of the professionals explained this to me. Identifying ones problem is the first step to understanding it and understanding it is the next step toward learning to live with it. Anyway, getting back on topic... When shopping for myself, I do not need a list as I am always conscious of what is needed. Except when shopping for others; then I need a list so I can be sure not to miss anything as I am a perfectionist. So much so that I causes me great frustration when I can't find a particular item. I too like to shop for just what is needed and am not usually prone to stocking the pantry. I like to be helpful to other shoppers, but at the same time require a wide birth and don't like distractions or people in the way. Especially when they are blocking the whole aisle while stocking shelves (can't they do that some other time?). I have often experienced sudden onset rage while shopping and have left full carts and walked out or caused a disturbance often leading me to have to find a new store. Also very frustrating! I like to get in and get out, usually doing things in a specific order and prefer stores I know well. I hate it when they rearrange everything on you. I also hate it when they keep asking if you need help. Unless I actually do need help... then you can't find anyone to ask, LOL. I just wondered if anyone else can relate to this. Thanks for posting the video, I plan to keep watching for more.
I'm a mother for the past few years so yes to being more serious about the shopping. But before I was a mother and whenever I was single i don't really remember going to the grocery store. I must have, but I do remember shopping for food at a gas station. Of course I also had 1-2 meals plus snacks provided at work 5 evenings a week at the casino I worked at so...
I don't do a list of stuff thing when go on shopping, I pick stuffs directly. Oftentimes I will forget 1specific stuff tht should be included but not much bother of tht. When it comes to food , I don't plan . When I have a time to shop for meal I look at the different stuffs on the board . its like a puzzle
as an infj when things don't get moved or the store doesn't change a brand name because I will get quality and get other items that are cheap and genaric to make up the difference that's great and if something seems sold out I'll spend a minute seeing if maybe one fell behind something also dont like it when its busy
I'm an infj. By myself I will just stand in one spot for like 5 minutes trying to figure out what I need to buy. It is so awkward because I have to find a place where I won't be in the way but people still stare at me. Then I realize I'm going to be in the grocery store all day so I have to just get going. Then I forget something and I can't even make what I wanted. Also I always want to make sure my boyfriend gets what he wants but when he isn't ecstatic (he is an INTJ) it all felt like a waste of my time. I tell him that he has to be over the top with his happiness or I'll never go shopping without him again. He is so so efficient that it's hard to get me to go without him.
INFJ and generally hate shopping. Make a list, get in, and get out. Unless I see something really great. Hate going to malls and always go to the supermarket when its quieter. As planned as I make it though, I do inevitably forget something. Reminds me, I forgot the damn tea yesterday. Another trip now ... sigh!
This is exactly how I shop and how i feel about others as i shop. But, since i've tested as INFP, INFJ, and INTP I'm still not sure about my type....although the longest and most detailed test put me as INFJ.
When it comes to shopping, I usually know what I need and get it, at reasonable prices. Continue to explore anything new that peaks my interest. Like to maintain a budget, but sometimes spend a bit more than expected. Shopping is a chore, but I do enjoy it at times, especially when I get fantastic deals. Rarely use a list, know exactly what I need at all times, never forget things unless I get distracted by others people wants, which is aggravating. Generally, I like shopping, I go in and out the store quickly, do not like to waste all day grocery shopping though. Plus I am a early bird type of shopper. Do not like the store too crowded, give me a bit of an anxiety.
Very interesting. I'm a very strong INFJ - having 90% or more preference in every set, yet this did not seem to describe me at all. ( I am 24 years old and I live alone, no roommate, SO, or kids) I am very methodical about my shopping, and I rarely spend money frivolously. Ie, I almost never buy things that I don't need. I plan my meals for the week and then go to the store and buy only what I need to make those meals. The part that did peg me was the part about "looking around at shit." I've kind of always attributed that to a sort of "brain break" in my shopping, or that I tend to get distracted easily. Example: "Peanut butter, check. That one time I got peanut butter I had to take it on a trip and we ate it all in one day. I wish we would have packed more juice. Oh I need a new water bottle"
These sort of behaviors in general I think have a lot to with "life circumstances of the extended moment.," and with one's personal, non-type specific, priorities. I appreciate the feedback and your viewing the video! Thanks very much!
Funny, I'm INFJ but lists make shopping easier for me. I still don't like doing it, but the lists at least keep me from having no idea what to buy and/or spending excess money on what I don't really need. I'm a huge cheapskate though, so that may have more to do with it than anything else. Not a mom or anything, just cheap, but I guess I can see what you're saying as I am a college student and I'd rather see extra money go back to my parents/family than into my fridge.
You got it. I buy what my gf would like so I can see her smile when she can tell I’ve thought about her throughout the day. Spot on. I also Always walk past the supplements etc Fkn lol
An accurate evaluation. I do make a list, it may have 15 items on it, cottage cheese is a must. I get to the check out, the tab is staggering as I now have 40 items in my cart of stuff in all reality and rational thinking, I do not need. I stand there like what the hell just happened? As far as grocery shopping, I'd rather be caned in public, but, I have this nasty habit of needing food.
Rosebud760 Borediva I hate shopping so much that I will buy two pairs of tennis shoes when I finally find one I like to save me a trip a couple years later. Same with jeans.
This is so true for me. Lol. It's one of the things I hate about myself so I try to change but always seem to revert back to status quo. Completely dead on from beginning to end for me:)
OMFG this was the best 9mins of my life. This was hilarious and described me exactly as an infj. I even have a son named Joseph who loves macaroni and cheese. Whom I purchase it for
For me it's actually the reverse of what you described. Not saying you're wrong because I see from the comments a lot people agree with this assessment. However, I personally can't stand to meander or look around forever when shopping, especially for groceries. I know what I want, I make a list based of meal plans and I get in and get out. I used to not like self checkout, thought it wasn't good for society, but now I always use it. People avoidance and I can pack a bag better than the clerk. Thanks for posting! What was that, Jim beam and coke?
its half getting the stuff i know i need half meandering and flying by the seat of my pants triing to get the things my family likes im triing to please them and at the same time im triing to avoid product w high fructose corn syrup like ketchup and salad dressing and coffee creamer and i do like to save money so i have money to spend but your wrong im responsible far beyond and person youve ever met im hyper respnsible. thanks for the video you made me laugh at me...
One additional statement, I see here in the comments that people are stating they are INFJ, but we only make up 2% of the world population, so does it sound right that there are multiple comments here by INFJs? If you truly believe you are an INFJ than this would have happened in your life-time long before you knew what an INFJ entailed. Many years ago, when I would go out couple-dancing, unknowing what I was doing, I would go around the club making sure I tried to dance at least one dance with those friends I knew there, (being that I was a really good couple dancer), always trying my best to make sure I got them to smile and laugh. I would introduce people to each other. In addition, it was hard for me to stay put in one place in the club because I wanted to make sure everyone was well. There were even times I had to go outside to be by myself to sort of recharge. It wasn't till after a girl in the club I had dated, (I didn't date much), treated me really bad that I came to realize that I was the only one in the club doing that. That I was the only one going around making sure the friends I had there were okay. Even when I had given up dance and started doing karaoke instead, making all new friends, (since I moved out of state, I don't do either anymore), I would go around the room doing the same thing. Again, this was long before I ever heard the term INFJ or realized that I was part of a rare category. I'm in the medical field so even back then, when I would be out either couple dancing or singing karaoke, if I came across someone dealing with a medical condition, I would try and help figure it out, giving some insight they might not have thought of before encouraging them to continue to follow up with their primary doctor. Either way, what I'm trying to say is that if you truly believe you are an INFJ, what situations were you ever in earlier in life that you were the only one always trying to make sure that everyone else was having a great time when no one else was doing so?
As with most endeavors in life, best described as part organized, part absentminded, part serendipity, part tripping onto something, rarely bored.
Laurie L ... So so True!!
Exactly, very true.
Part spiritual, as in the right things will end up in my cart as I flow through this place picking up what calls to me. Lol
Thanks :)
i couldn't stop laughing at your comment..hahaha because that is exactly me at the store...its crazy being an infj sometimes lol
Every single time I go shopping it takes me forever and I leave with way more than I anticipated by I don't care what store I go into the dollar store grocery store whatever I always buy a ridiculous amount of crap most of which I don't need it did not anticipate buying most of which is for other people, my children my family my close friends LOL thank you for this
the homeless guy always outside the dollarstrore that guy never terns down a slim jim
Southern Belle shiny objects I so understand that!
this sounds pretty much right - I cannot lie .
It sucks!!
Mermaid, could it be because nothing in reality fits our ideals? How can we possibly make a decision when every option has disadvantages??
Spot on. The list make beforehand is only there to ensure I don't forget something vital. It's there as backup if I meander too much.
I just discovered I'm a INFJ and you were spot on!
Lol. There is a total logic, which seems not logical on the surface to others, in what we do and how we do things. ;)
Yes, it is a not planned decision to finally go shopping, BUT we do not go unplanned shopping, when our inner finally makes us go.
Yes to that our mind is thoughtful of all family members and friends, we know what people like and we want them to be happy.
Pia Alexandra / We hate shopping, but love spending.
100% accurate and I have the cottage cheese and cat shirt to prove it :P
this is creepily accurate... :D I'm very into health and I'm always trying out new kinds of diets for clear skin etc :,D I hate grocery shopping and usually just go after uni to get some stuff quickly but I always end up getting way more than I planned (like some xmas presets for people and stuff while I'm there)
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I'm glad to hear the video resonated with you. :-)
This video creeped me out as well! Hahaha :))
I’m always trying out new kinds of healthy products for a better lifestyle, also I, too tend to keep everyone’s need in my mind and buy stuff for them and lastly, (at this point I was amazed enough from your accurate description and thought you won’t get me further more) but you nailed it by reminding me that I sure have this ridiculous habit of buying cute (not so much!) cat mugs and other unnecessary stuff as well!! And of course I love to have money and enjoy spending it 😎
That was very good.
Spot on with the special diet, the meandering and buying stuff I don’t need!😆
I know what I need to get... Rarely make a list on paper... It's always in my head like a card catalog... I do have a tendency to get things that are not in my mental catalog as well... But not for myself... And never in a hurry unless someone needs something immediately.
Yes, indeed. Creepily accurate is right. Every time I try to disprove I fit the INFJ description, I view some creepily accurate video.
Mostly I’ll go back and forth aisle to aisle until I’m too tired to carrying my groceries or I get about almost everything on my list (I don’t actually check the list properly though until I’m home a lot of the time)
I do give myself at least 1-2 impulse buys each trip though.
Dream Cardigan Oh I love office supplies and craft stuff. I'll spend hours in office supply stores. Or hardware stores thinking of the possibilities.
Dream Cardigan... That matches what I wrote and tried to describe. :)
You are all absolutely right.
From meat ....cheese.....shirt.....kid's likings.......wanting and spending money in order to make others happy.......not liking responsibilities
Yet being responsible all the time....forgetting self all the time. Absolutely .
I wonder how come you know ????
You must be an infj for sure.
Love to know lm not alone.
Bless you
I'm actually not an INFJ. I am an ENTP. INFJ & ENTP are similar in that they comprise the two most metaphysical types.
I'm not a fan of off brand stuff
yeah i have to be inside the grocery to plan what to do with the stuff im gonna buy
OMG 😮This was eerily correct. I’m blown away
My favorite part of the grocery store, is reading all the labels. It feels like I am walking in a book, as I roll down the aisle.
I just had to hear what you had to say. lol
I'd say you were mostly spot on here.
Take care!
Oh other things: I'm a perfectionist, there's a place in my house for every little thing. When I shop I even organize the buggy.. even dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
It's ridiculous I know.
Very right on! I also often make one or two random shopping lists that I always forget to use.
Wow 😮. I’m a mother and wife and this is scarily accurate!!!
exactly right for me.
You got me! Great presentation. I laughed at myself, it was so true.
I hate shopping. For any thing. I buy all my clothes on line or in op shops and try make 1 definitely no more then 2 times a fortnight for groceries.
Hate shopping of any kind. I start strong and fly through at lightning speed but then I just hit with like toilet paper. I will be there about 3 days figuring out what to buy. My is yelling "come on college!".
my mum's an INFJ, quite accurate especially the Si role function thing
This is 100% true hahaha. I make the lists often but end up going on my whims
When I have a time to shop for meal I look at the different stuffs on the board . its like a puzzle
goal!I talk to my mind. I have to this to achive that
I have food stock
I am busy but during.my day off I go to shop for a week. Yes, I am a single mom
as an infj when things don't get moved or the store doesn't change a brand name because I will get quality and get other items that are cheap and genaric to make up the difference that's great and if something seems sold out I'll spend a minute seeing if maybe one fell behind something also dont like it when its busy
So true - I'm ketogenic and my husband loves carbs. Buying his food is SO much more fun than my own food :)
Completely right, INFJ mom.
BAH! It's like you've done a study on my shopping lifestyle. A whim lol, meander? Well done. Sincere INFJ
Definitely! Abe is a sucker for lists. He loses his marbles without them. Don't be like Host Abe!
As an INFJ everything you said is my exact shopping experience, down to a T.
Haha, so true..no lists, meander, and look at all the stuff. I also hate to shop..takes me forever.
Thanks so much for viewing and for taking the time to comment! I'm glad to hear this video resonated with you (and that I got it right ;)
made me laugh, this is so accurate for me! my ESTJ husband usually grocery shops
Ha ha ha I think you got this mostly right. i'm an INFJ and my husband prefers do the grocery shopping.
its half getting the stuff i know i need half meandering and flying by the seat of my pants triing to get the things my family likes im triing to please them and at the same time im triing to avoid product w high fructose corn syrup like ketchup and salad dressing and coffee creamer and i do like to save money so i have money to spend but your wrong im responsible far beyond and person youve ever met im hyper respnsible. thanks for the video you made me laugh at me...
Wow, you got me to a T.. That is just too funny😂
I'm an INFJ. You are 💯 right.
U are right on!
True I'll look at other stuff while shopping yes at Wal-Mart and buying both junk and good stuff that no one else eats like Apple's bananas
Wow. This is so accurate.
This is me. I do all these things. Even the bread thing.
I have a good memory and get in and out quickly hate shopping. Buy a treat now and then.
