  • Six Flags Over Texas is the original Six Flags park. Located in Arlington, Texas, this theme park features 13 roller coasters including favorites like the New Texas Giant and Mr. Freeze. But it also has some cool dark rides, great flat rides, and a charm the other parks in the chain can't quite match. Find out everything you need to know about this theme park in this review!

    You're right on point regarding the confusing park layout. This has been my home park for the last two years. I've probably ridden Runaway Mountain about 10 times and I still have no idea how to find it. The only times I ride it are when I accidentally happen upon it!

    This park will become upper tier Six Flags next major coaster edition. Aquaman power wave is a really cool addition and I like how it adds even further diversity to an already diverse lineup. This is the Six Flags park I've been to the most and I think it's a good base because it covers all the major ride types.

    Glad to hear you enjoyed this park. Everything in this review is on point, but the tendency for one-train ops, long lines, large and sometimes rowdy teenage crowds, rundown/crime-ridden area, lack of other (non-baseball/football) interesting things to do in the area, awful AirBnb options, etc. make this park a difficult sell as a repeat destination. Our kids cringe at the suggestion of visiting again. We just don't end up actually getting to experience many rides when visiting this park (e.g. Batman clones usually are walk-ons, but can be 30-45 minute wait here).
    Maybe we've just been extremely unlucky with timing, but we've had a "Six Flags Day" almost every time (always weekdays, different times of year), and typically have an enjoyable experience even at "bad" amusement parks. As a local park SFOT would be worth revisiting, but for the millions of Texans who live a few hours away from both SFOT and Six Flags Fiesta Texas, it's SFFT every time, no contest! (great nearby dining, accommodations, other amusement/water parks, etc)
    The SFOT Hurricane Harbor is actually pretty good though. Nothing unique there, but has a solid collection of slides, decent ops, and manageable weekday crowds. Always been a fun time, but in Houston we've got Hurricane Harbor, Big Rivers, Typhoon Texas, Splashway, and Schlitterbahn Galveston (went today, awesome!), so no reason to drive to Dallas just for the SFOT Hurricane Harbor. The Texas School Book Depository is an important Dallas-area bucket list destination, and one might as well visit SFOT while in the area, but I feel no need to ever return to SFOT, and instead visit SFFT 20-25 times per year. Six Flags loves investing money in that park! Not so much with SFOT, and it shows.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 года назад

      I've only visited in summer and Holiday in the Park weekends. Do the bad ops you describe tend to happen in offpeak perioids?

    • @Thuggysmurf
      @Thuggysmurf 2 года назад

      @@CanobieCoaster Mostly. Last time at SFOT was Monday 12/27/21 (didn't stay for the pretty night lights), but before that was early June and April 2021 (have friends up there, so we visit the area more than we otherwise would). June was the best SFOT experience of the last 3 visits because the water park was open.
      Six Flags Magic Mountain has a phenomenon where if you visit on a slightly more crowded day (but not packed), you actually have a better experience sometimes because more rides are open and running two trains, but then you visit the following day when the park is significantly less crowded, not staffed as well, and you end up getting on less rides. Not sure if that's what is going on with SFOT during the off-peak weekdays, but there's a Clark Griswold feeling when you arrive a few minutes after park opening on a weekday with 2 kids wanting to ride New Texas Giant, head straight there and it's already got an hour wait with one-train ops, while Titan and Mr. Freeze are closed.... brutal. No luck selling the rest of the family on SFOT ever since. They want SFFT.
      I wish Six Flags offered a season Flash Pass valid at all their parks. We have the Cedar Fair Season Fast Lane Plus for all parks so lines aren't a problem there and we love them. Also have the season Flash Pass Platinum for SFFT, which has outstanding merge points (especially Iron Rattler, Goliath, & Pandemonium). Don't have Flash Pass for SFOT and have never bought one there because I can't figure out the line merge points, or sometimes even where the Flash Pass line entrances are (as you noted in the vid), so that's probably influencing my impression of SFOT relative to everything else. Anyway, thanks for all the vids. You're expertise is super helpful!

    I'm sure it's factored into the design, but the way the tracks wobbled on Shockwave whenever a coaster was near it always made me think, "this thing is gonna collapse"..... Part of the thrill I guess.

  • @michaeltaylor1603
    @michaeltaylor1603 2 года назад +2

    Yeeeee HAwwww! In my home state visiting the "Original" I have a dog eared souvenir guide from 1966 I got when I was 9 yrs. old! I got to ride the Cave as they called it many times before it changed. Shock Wave is not only fun to ride but also to watch. Look @ how the columns sWaY when that gorgeous train gracefully negotiates the track. Yes! You know your close to the park when you see the Derrick, Superman, Sky Screamer. That park IS huge. You DO have to remember the layout. It had the Duell loop design, but later expansions changed all that. Rode the Giant 1st season. I DO love New Texas giant. It would have been hard to keep that one as a straight woodie. Another highlight is the Silver Star Carousel that got relocated from Boom Town section to the front of the park & lovingly refurbished. The park came a long WAY. There were lots of animal powered rides in the 1st few years. Also Johnson's creek is real. It actually runs through the property. Hence, the occasional flooding. SF o Georgia has that same problem only that it's near the Chattahoochee river.

    I don't know how recently you visited this park, but Titan has been shut down for around 10 months, due to the chain on the lift hill snapping, and they are unable to get the parts imported in (apparently they prefer German engineered parts over US parts). Also, almost all the coasters that are over 30 years old, were painfully bumpy, yanky, and janky. The indoor coaster has horribly strong breaks as it suddenly stops and makes you feel like you just got a drop kick to the abdomen. Judge Roy scream was rough, bumpy and painful. The runaway mine was the worst, being the most yanky and painful. The only rides that didn't hurt, were all the rides built from the 90s to today.
    I love how you mentioned the terribly, confusing layout of this park. Even with a map it's difficult to find your way around. The park is still fun, but definitely not top 5, maybe within top 10 of all the Six flags parks.

Aquaman looks to be at least a month or 2 away from opening. 1 train ops on Mr. Freeze to nitpick but 2 trains on the others. Spelunkers Cave was okay(the story was hard to follow) but nowhere near as good as Monster Mansion at SFOG. Outside of Mr. Freeze, most everything else was a walk-on. • @OklahomaCoasterFan
    @OklahomaCoasterFan 2 года назад +2

    I have gone here so much in recent years. The single rider lines are coming back. It was being abused, because it's quite messy and confusing. On New Texas Giant, guests pick their own row from the regular line, then the single riders have to look for a row with 1 person and join them. I would hate to see assigned seating come to this park, but that single rider system is messy. Many have already come back, especially the ones that have always been there.
    The layout here is confusing. For a long time, I thought Judge Roy Scream wasn't part of the park, thinking that it's owned by some other company, and we'd have to pay extra to ride it outside the park. In 2016, I finally figured it out. I can walk that park in my sleep now, but it is a confusing layout.

    I visited this park for the first time in April and left wanting more from the park. Some areas are nicely themed but the middle section felt dark and run down to me. Also during my visit, Titan, Mr. Freeze and Judge Roy were closed all day. I did enjoy Shockwave and thought Texas Giant is a solid RMC. I had a fun day at this park, but at the same time I feel like this park deserves better treatment from SF corporate, given its historical significance. I’d put this in the second tier of Six Flags, behind Magic Mountain, Great Adventure, and Great America.

      That’s unfortunate. Titan has been down since last fall, apparently due to the lift chain breaking. Judge Roy Scream has been re-tracked in a few areas and is back up. Mr. Freeze had an electrical fire shortly after re-opening after its new paint job, but is back in operation. Also, extensive renovations throughout the park have been ongoing, so the hope is that they will reach some of more run down areas as well. I’d suggest giving it another shot at some point down the road. Don’t forget to get a Pink Thing by the front gate!

    I really like this park. I get that the chain hasn't given it many impressive additions in the last 10 years but that doesn't mean the park is bad or stale. While Fiesta Texas has the best park appearance in the chain, Over Texas also has a great appearance in many areas. The areas by Shockwave and Titan could use some work and Gotham City could use some more three dimensional theming instead of flat facades. And there is way too much blank blacktop in the park, especially given how hot it gets. But putting aside those complaints it still looks good in a majority of the park and the ride line up is solid.

    Although I agree with most of your points, Love & Care are definitely missing. I've been going here since 1973. In the beginning it was great, all the way up until about 1988 or so. I saw Depeche Mode here. So much wasted space. Needs a slap of fresh paint EVERYWHERE! Replace out lights and get rid of cobwebs! The food is adequate, but the snot nosed kids running concessions are abysmal. The lines for F&B are way too long. You sometimes spend 45 minutes just to order. For the crowds, they really need to open ALL lines for F&B. My last visit (before Co-Vid) the ovetflow parking was full, and folks were packed into empty lots of land across the street from the park. I have no idea if these people had to pay to park, but it shows the negligence of crowd control. They have run out of ice the last two times we've been by 7pm. HOW DO YOU RUN OUT OF ICE IN TEXAS?! 6FOT has a lot to learn. I just don't understand how the FLAGSHIP park goes through this! Fiesta Texas is leaps and bounds above. Never have I seen random trash, peeling paint, burned out lights or just a lack of friendliness, courtesy, or caring about where these park personnel work. They also need to consider a shuttle of some sort to Hurricane Harbor. Schlitterbhan Bhan does this in New Braunfels. My theory is they just wanna gouge guest for more parking. Insanity. Seems 6F doesn't seem to care about the greatness thar spawned an empire. This makes me sad as 6FOT has always been my home park. My favorite Amusement park! The best treat for anyone that is into a fun filled adrenaline day. I enjoyed visiting it in the early 1980's. The best part of visiting the park is the reassurance that you will get a professional check from the mechanics that work on the amusement park rides. The best mechanics for Roller Coasters and just a ton of fun!
    💯✍👏👏

    Again don’t buy admission at the gate, I went to great America with my grandpa, 2 months before we went admission was 35 online but he is stubborn and if it wasn’t on Amazon he won’t do it in advance so we paid 90 per person day of.

    god the layout is SO BAD and the maps dont help either, this really sucks because theres so many good rides but so much of your time is spent looking for other rides, like me and the group i went with spent half an hour trying to figure out how to get to the gotham city area, it was worth it and it was a good use of time to spend our flash pass wait but man they really need to clarify this better

      It's how the ride was designed. There are what looks like ball joints on some of the supports ( top and bottom) that allows the track to move as the train passes.
