As someone who doesn’t go too often, anytime I visit the park I see it as a treat. I understand the rides are getting pretty old now but they’re just nostalgic classics to me. Shockwave was the first roller coaster I can vividly remember riding. I remember finally getting over my fears of titan and mr.freeze and going back to back on those rides again. Me and my friend were one of the first people to ride the new Texas giant and were surveyed for it. All the scary stories behind runaway mountain and the lake by judge Roy scream the kids would tell at middle school. Gotta get a funnel cake in the summer. Not too say the rides didn’t have their problems, they never really inconvenienced my times at the park. I finally moved back to Ft Worth after a couple years and I can’t wait to go back, I drive by the park nearly every damn day.

    • @nicholasrainone1647
      @nicholasrainone1647 3 года назад +6

@@AirtimeThrills in terms of major thrill rides they kinda do though. The coaster additions alone in the last 20 years speak to that. 2001 was Titan, then the family Pandemonium (or Tony Hawk's Big Spin I guess at the time), then New Texas Giant which you can't really count as an addition since the count stayed the same, then Joker which fine the S&S free spins are fun but... hard to get excited about, then the Power Splash which we only even got because Six Flags Dubai or wherever never happened. We were the dumping ground for a ride not even meant for us. So you could say "Hey, that's 5 in 20 years" or you could more rationally say "hey that's 5 coasters but one is just a refurb, one they got on the cheap cause they ordered in bulk and one wasn't even supposed to go there. " And it's not like this is La Ronde. Last time I saw numbers (may have even been your video from a year or so ago) SFOT is the 4th highest attendance in the chain, well ahead of SFFT which gets WAY more love. And Dallas/Fort Worth is the fourth largest metro area in the entire country and the fastest growing by some margin. Houston isn't far behind but San Antonio ain't drawing theme park crowds from 2.5 hours away so Houston definitely can't be considered SFFT metro area. Over Texas is an afterthought for the chain and I get genuinely angry seeing the other parks get these great coasters whole SFOT is left to pretend our Batman clone is a top tier ride.

LaVibora is a rare credit that is close to extinction. Oh, and yes, Texas Sky Screamer is EFFING terrifying. Ride it on a breezy day, the seat will rotate outward about 120 degrees and back again over and over for the entire ride. Scariest ride ever lol

You have to keep in mind it's also the original six flags park, the Texas giant is the first RNC and it's an awesome coaster. You have to understand things are gonna be outdated and campy. But that's also part of the charm. Six flags over Texas is under new management and is getting a reboot. It'll get reinvigorated and tickets are extremely cheap right now 😁 definitely worth the money.

I've been going to this park since 1967-1968. I could write a book on the rides and attractions it once had that are no longer there. I was 5 years old in 1967 and was lucky enough to have a Dad that enjoyed stuff like this. We went to the park 2-3 times a summer. Even with minimal lines back in the early days of the park, it would literally take you all day to explore the entire place. The big orange tower with the observation platform on top was a landmark I still remember. It also had a large free fall slide you could ride down on old burlap bags. Then there was the Riverboat ride, the Log Ride, The Spelunker's Cave and so many others I've forgotten the names of. One of the main attractions back then was the staged live action shootouts they had in the Texas area. They'd never have anything like that in this day and age because the gunshots were loud and sounded very real. When I got older, married and had children, I took them to the park just like my Dad took us, and did the same with my Grandkids.

Six Flags Magic Mountain was my secondary park growing up and that tower there was NEVER opened, so being able to go up the oil Derrick at SFOT was a pleasant surprise to say the least! You have such amazing views up there! You can see both Fort Worth and Dallas from up there! Really cool!

Almost exactly a year ago, I visted the park with a friend who was a Six Flags employee by that time (but not at SFOT, she worked at what what you said will be your home Six Flags Park) - and I remember us going back and forth in circles to find the entrance to Shockwave - as that was what we, both being big Schwarzkopf fans, wanted to start our day with. Yes, that park's layout can really mess with you. :D
When it comes to parking, I never had the luck to park close to the entrance, in fact we always had to park so far away that it may have been closer to walk to Fiesta Texas instead. ;-)

Shockwave is probably one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had on a coaster. It looks very basic and uninspired and the setting is awful. But it is SOOOOOOOOOO much better that is looks from off ride. The airtime really caught me off guard and the loops are fantastic.
Texas Skyscreamer is the scariest ride I've ever been on. I haven't done the Orlando Starflyer or the rides at the Stratosphere but the Texas Skyscreamer terrifies me. The chains look like tiny necklaces. I know it's safe but I can't help being scared to death on that thing.

    Pro tips about finding things:
NTG: When entering the park, take a left. When you reach Spain and the chicken place, take a right into the Texas area. Then, go left until you find the bridge taking you to the entrance plaza area. Or, you could go to Runaway Mountain, go through the JB’s smokehouse, and take the little path near Rodeo, into the smoking area, up the hill and to the ride.
Runaway Mountain: When you enter the park, take a right into the Looney Toons section. Keep going until you see the sign for France by the bathrooms, lemonade, and All American. Go into France. Continue down the path to the Southern Palace Theater and it will be right there.
Shockwave: You can do two things. You can take the path for Runaway Mountain but keep going through the smokehouse. Take a right and continue passed the defunct Yosemite Sam ride until you reach the tower. Then, travel behind it and continue. Or, upon entering the park, take a right into USA, keep going straight until you reach the mine trains. Turn left and head to the tower section. You can take a shortcut through the Superman entrance and the Cheesesteaks restaurant. Continue until you reach the observation tower, then go behind it.
Judge Roy: Upon entering, go through the USA section and take a right when you get to the Boomtown section (Mine trains) like you are going to Gotham. Once in Gotham, you can Either
A: Take the little side path next to the Majestic theater to reach the plaza
B: Go up the stairs with the green railing next to the Sky Screamer entrance to the plaza

    - S&S hyper looper to replace Go karts

SFOT's coaster lineup, IMO, has 3 major problems:
1: Every coaster is either intense, rough, or disorienting. Batman, Freeze, Shock Wave, and Titan are positive G monsters, which not everyone likes or can tolerate. Judge Roy, La Vibora, and the Mine Trains are rough, which not everyone likes or can tolerate. Pandemonium and Joker spin, and Runaway Mountain takes place in pitch black. These rides are potentially very disorienting, and again, not everyone likes this or can tolerate it. The only roller coaster that somewhat bucks this trend is New Texas Giant, but even then, many members of the GP don't enjoy strong ejector airtime.
2: A majority of the coasters are small, short (in duration, not necessarily height), and low capacity. New Texas Giant is big and has a great ride duration, but the capacity is absolutely abysmal. I did some quick napkin math, and I think Giant often runs at less than 500 riders per hour. This is only exacerbated by how many skip-the-line passes the park gives out/sells, which can double the wait times for the regular line.
3: The layouts of most of the coasters at the park are either cloned or uninteresting. As much as I love New Texas Giant, the layout really consists of only the first drop, 3 overbanks, and 12 airtime hills. Shock Wave also has a very basic layout with two loops and 4 airtime hills. The only inversions in the park are the 5 on Batman, Shock Wave's two loops, Freeze's inverted top hat, and whatever you can get on Joker.
It's not all bad, though. One great strength of the park is the number of unconventional coaster types available. There is a spinning coaster, a 4D free spin, an indoor coaster, a bobsled, an invert, a custom Schwarzkopf looper, a classic wooden coaster, an RMC, and the park is about to add a multi-launching water coaster. Not all of these coaster types are uncommon, but not too many parks have this much variety. This is really only an advantage if SFOT is your home park, but it is an advantage nonetheless.
There are a few key additions that I think would solve most of the problems with the park's coaster lineup while building on its strengths:
1: A conventional looping coaster. Your idea of relocating Scream to SFOT makes so much sense that it almost hurts to think about it. Scream is a pretty typical layout for a B&M floorless, but it would add tremendously to the park's variety of inversions and provide a reliable and high capacity ride that is longer and less intense than Batman. It wouldn't be the enthusiast's pick, but it would be a hit with the GP and very beneficial for the park.
    2. A floater airtime machine. A B&M hyper may be a longshot, but a man can dream can't he? Even a small scale version like La Ronde's Goliath would be a great addition, and this would better fit within Six Flags' budget and be less intimidating to the GP. Much like Scream, this would have broad appeal, be reliable, and have high capacity. It would also address the park's lack of floater airtime, and space wouldn't be an issue, as it could be built over top of the parking lot.
    3. A themed, multi-launching coaster. Busch Gardens Tampa has Cheetah Hunt, Carowinds has Copperhead Strike, Universal Orlando has Hagrid's, and Magic Mountain has West Coast Racers. I believe this is the new wave for the Amusement industry. Some are more intense than others. Some are better themed than others, but they all have relatively broad appeal and unique layouts that draw crowds. To my knowledge, they have all been very successful additions for their respective parks. The dueling/racing aspect of West Coast Racers is an added bonus, and something similar would be a great addition to SFOT. Also, if the park decides to remove Roaring Rapids, imagine how great it would be to fly through that rock work on a coaster like this. It would basically be prebuilt theming.
    4. A large scale RMC Raptor. A Jersey Devil clone or something similar would be a great complement to New Texas Giant. Stronger, more sustained ejector hills, along with inversions (especially a zero G stall or 2) would give this coaster all the goodness that newer RMCs have that Giant does not.
    5. An S&S Axis Coaster. Need I say more?
...When I began this comment, I had no idea it would be this long... Props to anyone who actually reads the entire thing, LOL.

I went to sfot last month. I really liked it and expected a huge fun time, but things didn’t really go as planned. When we first arrived, we went to the Spain/Mexico section. We rode conquistador for a warm up, which was actually more scary than I expected. Then we rode El Diablo, it had a very short ride wait time, and was very thrilling. And then we went to La Vibora. In my opinion, if any ride needs to go or get fixed, it’s La Vibora. The wait time was almost 3 hours for a shaggy old short ride that is so rough that you will repeatedly hit your body when the cart turns. I liked it then, but now it’s just a waste of time and money. We went to look around for food, and yes it was amazing. We were going to go to the Superman, but right as we were about to get on, the park was like “hey, we should close all the rides because of some rain” Which was stupid bc the storm was over the airports and the lightning was nowhere near us. So for some reason we all decided to go back to the left side of the park for shelter. Basically almost wasted $600 to walk around the park and get turned away from the good rides. Solid 3/5

This is my home park and probably the one I know the best. My thoughts pretty much line up with yours with a few exceptions. Judge Roy Scream is in dire need of a makeover (track, structure, etc.) for it is falling apart. The music mill amphitheater takes up space that could be used for a major attraction (new coaster comes to mind) as foes the go karts. With Texas Live and other music venues across the way there is no real need for an amphitheater. Now a few cool additions: the looney tunes dark ride is being restored back to the spelunkers cave (with a pirate theme) and they restored the Casa Magnetica (fun house). Both are small attractions but still cool to experience. As someone who grew up in the north visiting Cedar Point regularly, I do find similar charm with this Six Flags park (probably because of its history) and have grown fond of it since moving to the DFW area in 89. BTW, I may have commented on this before but I have slept since then and it keeps popping up in my feed. Anyway thanks for video and look forward to more.

This is my home park as well. I rank it number 4th after Magic Mountain, Great America and Great Adventure. We definitely need a new good coaster! I've want to see a wing coaster here for the longest. Maybe the new Axes coaster from S&S or an B&M Dive coaster

The right side of the park where you said the "newer" stuff is located was the USA section from the beginning until the Looney Toons folks took over. It had a "modern" car ride called Happy Motoring, a scrambler called "The Missile Chaser" and a mouse coaster called "Sidewynder" along with some exhibits. The Boomtown section was added in 1963. Hurricane Harbor was not a part of Six Flags in its beginning. The water park originally opened in the 1980's as Wet N Wild. Six Flags purchased the water park in 1997. That's why it's not connected to the amusement park. To help you out... go through Mexico and Spain, turn left at the Crazy Horse Saloon... cross the bridge and your at the NTG. The sign to the picnic pavilions has Titan written right over it. For Runaway Mountain.... Turn right at the Crazy Horse Saloon and keep on that main street. You'll run right into it. The Shock Wave's line is short because it's not new... it's been there since 1978.... not because of its location. It's one of the easiest ones to find.... it's at the base of the tower. Your statement about NTG potentially being another Steel Vengeance.... It's kinda hard to be another coaster that hasn't been built yet. If it wasn't for the NTG, there would be no Steel Vengeance. There's a lot of things you are not taking into consideration when calling this a "middle of the road" park.. way too much to mention here.

this is my home park too. I agree that the park seems neglected. Me and my brother joke about it every time we visit. Seems like every time there are always a couple coasters down for maintenance. I will say that the batman is my favorite ride at the park. I miss being able to go.

This is my home park. I don’t go very often because the maintenance is lacking, but I’d be willing to give it another try.

Summer heat gets very hot. Hyper coaster is awesome because of its unique layout that makes it different than most other hypers.

My heart lies with Fiesta Texas being from San Antonio but I've always love making a weekend trip up to DFW to spend a day or two at SFOT.
