Thanks for this tips! I have my first Tesla MY. Now Before this, I had Mercedes, BMW, etc. (all gas cars). However, I have to make a lot of business trips, which is why the car is regularly parked in the underground car park at the airport for one to two weeks. After the first few days with the Tesla, I was unsure how to organize parking at the airport. Therefore, thank you for these great tips! Many greetings from Germany
Related to Sentry Mode, I think if you mark a location as a favorite (click on the star at the location on the pop up window in the navigation screen) then Sentry Mode will be put off for that location. This way you don't have to switch it on and off manually. Thanks for the videos and greatings from Europe!
Great for sharing! Leaving for a 5 day trip and leaving my model 3 at airport, unfortunately COS doesn’t have covered parking. Kinda nervous about the hail but will check the weather before I leave. Thanks!!
Two things that would be nice at airports. One would be long term parking spots that have chargers. These could be low power (probably destination chargers for Teslas) since they would not be intended for fast charging. A second option would be valet parking. Then you could check the car periodically and text them if you need a charge and tell them what state of charge you want. Since they have a valet key they can move your car to a charger and back to a regular valet spot when it’s done charging. Additional advantage of this option may be more secure parking which may make turning off sentry mode easier to justify.
Thanks. This video was very helpful for us. We bought our Tesla Model Y 2 weeks ago and are flying to the Great Smokey Mountains for a 5 day vacation. We debated whether to make the 120 mile trip to the airport in our 15 year old ICE car (with 192k miles) or the new Tesla. Your video confirmed what we suspected and what a fellow Tesla owner told us which was to turn off Sentry Mode, not check the car repeatedly and to turn off interior overheating protection. We found a supercharger near the airport and charged to 80% before parking in the covered garage. We did this to assuage our paranoia and since we are returning late at night and didnt want to have to charge on the way home. After this trip works out well, next time, we will leave it at 50 percent which is what it took to get to the airport, and charge on the way home. The bottom line is that your video was very helpful and helped us to drive the car for this trip and leave it with confidence. We shut off Sentrywere able to locate a supercharger near rhe airport and cha
We watched a video where a person checked in daily and it didn't matter much. We've been gone since Sunday. It's Thursday and I just checked on for the 3rd time. We lost 1 percent. So it does use some power but not much. We did leave sentry and cabin overheat protection off. I keep worrying that I'm going to accidentally open the trunk or trunk in the app when in check in.... Need to not do that.
I was at a Tesla location and they told me you can turn it off under the safety area and nothing would happen, it wouldn't hurt the car. I have the two exact Teslas as you same color.
Recently got my Tesla model Y but I do Very little driving throughout the week and it’s all pretty local, and it’s a second vehicle. I’ve been keeping it at about 65%. Should I always keep it plugged in at 50 to 60%, or would it be healthier for the battery to not plug it in and charge it up till like 65% and then drive it down to 40% and continue that cycle?
I do a bit of both in that situation. Plug in at 50-60% to maintain the battery, especially in extreme weather situations. I also let it sit for days sometimes as I just forget working from home. I personally think the battery will outlive the usefulness of the car anyway.
Great Video, in your home battery example (tip #1), you talk about leaving your car plugged in for the "duration". How long did you store your Tesla at home? I am leaving my Tesla for 3 months in my garage any advice?
Thanks for watching. Batteries generally like to be stored at 50-60%, plugged in is ideal. I'm currently doing this with my Dad's Tesla (who passed away) until we get around to selling it.
thanks for your quick reply. How long do you think I can keep a Tesla plugged in without using it? Do you think 3 months plugged in without use is ok? PS: sorry to hear about you Dad. @@TeslaTipsTrips
I've done this with my Dads car since September, however I drive it every couple of weeks. If you watch Kyle Connor on Out of Spec, he recently 'bought' an electric car that had been sitting on the dealer lot for 10 years! Unplugged! It's working fine, with the exception of the tires which had dry rot and flat spotted. I would think 3 months is fine, but I'm not a Tesla engineer.
@@TeslaTipsTrips Nice!, crazy, how you gained 5 miles...I was concerned about parking in airport for long periods, I do leave for 2 weeks+ at a time and so now with your imput it helps a lot to feel comfortable about driving myself there. Super!, thanks for video and taking one for the team! 😄😀✌️
Checking in doesnt seem to use much power much especially if you're only going to be fone a week or so. Of course, now that I know the vehicle is fine when I leave it I feel no need to check in on it. We were embolden to check in after watching a video where somebody checked in daily on a 5-day trip. guys dont just do what a random person tells you on the internet. eg LFP batteries Tesla recommends charging to 100% not leaving it at 50% so check with the manufacturer
It is best to use common sense and Ultimately to consult your Tesla manual or the Tesla site. My understanding is that Tesla recommends that you only charge to 80% on a daily basis and only charge to 100 percent when necessary such as for trips. lithium Ion batteries are indeed "happiest" when charged to 50% so it makes sense to leave it sitting at 50 percent if that works for your trip. Ultimately, Tesla recommends that you keep the car between 20 and 80 percent when possible. I found this video to be super helpful especially since we are leaving our Tesla Model Y at an airport for the first time.
My model Y is loosing about 8% overnight at home!!! If I live at the airport for a week, for sure I’ll find that I don’t have any % left on the battery when I come back! Any advice why this is happening???
I don't mean to offend. This is why I prefer to read answers rather than watch videos, for most purposes. Your advice could fit in fifty to sixty words, readable in less than a minute. Watching takes almost 18.

My sentiments exactly. The video was very helpful.

You're right, you have that choice.
Good point.
Thanks. There are many cool features.
Thank you. I did see your short but I just asked the question in RUclips and this video came up. Didn't know you were the same person. Great advice!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for your video, I just bought a Tesla Model Y, I'll be traveling to Europe for 3 weeks & I'll leave my Tesla at the Airport
Did you leave it plugged in at the airport?

Great video. Answered whether I should park and fly or Uber to the airport.
Thanks!

I love watching your #Tesla Content.
When you say 50-60% is that for the long range? How about the RWD? The RWD LFP is recommended to charge it 100% and how will it be then?
You should never leave any battery sitting very long at 100%. Thanks for watching.

Do you set charge time when plug in in garage also
Well I do have it set to 10pm as my rates drop overnight.

Thanks for the vid! What do you think the guy is doing at the rear of your car at 7:19?
Wow, I hadn't noticed that before. Best guess, checking out our red Tesla logo and how we did it probably.
Isn’t there a software option to put the car in, on the different situations
Like presets? No unfortunately. Thanks for watching
We appreciate you too!
Love that! Thanks
Thanks for videos.
Glad you like them!
What was your battery charge left after the 2 weeks??.
Thanks

Generally once you 'wake up' the car, it takes 30-40 minutes for it to go back to 'sleep' so it runs for that duration.

Sentry Mode is likely the cause. Turn that off under these conditions.
There is no way this is possible. I lose 5 miles in 12 hours not checking the app
You must have Sentry mode on. That seems about right.
You stopped the comments on that comment because you were not truthful
No because the anti-EV crowd were being obnoxious assholes. It’s true. It’s all right there.
