This looks incredible I hope they figure out a way to do full account transfers from consoles to PC because I can't start over from scratch been playing Elite since day one on Xbox.
As I have said in other posts.... There has been talk that accounts should be transferred, but I believe this is nothing but a pipe dream, a hopeful grasp by the console player at an excuse to continue playing Elite Dangerous without feeling scammed or completely abandoned. Console accounts (progress, upgrades, vanity items, etc.) will most likely never be transferred, not on a large scale such as this. Supposedly, complete accounts have been transferred from console to PC before, but this was done on an individual basis, and it was rarely done, and as far as I know, this is just rumor. This scenario regarding console players is much different. Although Arx credits can be transferred from console to PC, but as for the rest of a commander's career, that is looking quite dismal. For console players, they are looking at repeating the repetitive grind again (and many console players have thousands of hours invested). I mean, I love Elite Dangerous as much as the next fanboy, but the prospect of repeating the grind that I have already done, already suffered for, seems daunting and sickening at best. One of the main reason as to why I believe there will be no account transfers is that there was simply no discussion on it. Not by Braben. Not by Frontier. Not by FDevs. You would have thought that account transfers would have been discussed in Braben's statement, but it was not, simply because Frontier is most likely doubtful that they can do it. We have to remember that the decision to abandon consoles was not done overnight. I believe it can be safely assumed that Frontier knew about their ultimate decision six months ago. Having said that, you would have to believe that at some point there was discussion regarding account transfers. It is my opinion that they had this discussion, with the conclusion that "console to PC" transfers would not happen, mainly because of the size of the task (among other things). So Frontier continued to remain silent, allowing console players to continue playing (or buying the game for the first time), continue waiting to purchase the new DLC, and most of all, continue buying Arx for their vanity items. We shouldn't be surprised by this. This isn't the first shady thing that Frontier has done. Furthermore, even if it is announced that accounts can/will be transferred from consoles to PCs, it will most likely not happen for months (perhaps longer). Also, can we even trust Frontier to do this account transferring correctly? Can you imagine the horror of a commander being told by FDev that their account career was lost during transfer? Their track record in regards to the maintenance of the game is mediocre at best. It will still be mediocre, even though FDevs will be working with one code and no concerns about consoles. That is just how they work. I am still waiting for the shit-storm when FDev goes to one code. That will be fun to watch. Perhaps I am wrong, and that would be good. But I don't think I am wrong about this. I believe that Elite Dangerous for consoles is finished. There will be no vocal outcry from most of the PC crowd, and even some of the ED-RUclips crowd are now shrugging their shoulders and saying "Oh well, guess buy a PC". One example of this was Down To Earth Astronomy's video on the console abandonment. His entire video is benign, plain, and naïve. He pretty much says that at least the servers for console players will be kept open, but that the bright side is that now FDev can focus their attention on going forward with lore, story, and content for Elite Dangerous. What he fails to say is that all it is for PC players (which he is one himself). I believe most ED-RUclipsrs are not critical about this poor decision by Frontier. It seems that their attitude is, "Okay, that's done. Now lets get to the new content". So much for the bond of the ED community. Again, FDevs consider console players as a lost cause. Much like triage, they are no longer trying to treat the problem, or cure it. As far as console players are concern, we are a malignant tumor that needs to be excised. We are at the fourth stage of terminal treatment regarding Elite Dangerous on consoles, and all they will try to do is make the patient comfortable before pulling the plug. What PC players fail to realize is that this decision will eventually affect them as well, maybe to the point of having to say goodbye to their game as well (and I say that as a PC player). I have to say again that I won't fault any console player who continues to play Elite Dangerous. But they should realize that this one expansive game in now stagnant, and it is pretty much in its death-throes. As a player on Xbox, PS5, and PC, I have been quietly loyal to this game for many years, logging thousands of hours, and sat quietly with the many disappointments that the FDevs and Frontier has given us. This decision, though, was just too much to excuse any longer. Much like my analogy of a cheating spouse, how much does one take before you finally garner respect for yourself and say, "Enough". Like I said, I would rather walk out before I am asked to leave.
I’m really sorry ant, I’ve watched your videos over 3 years now and you are the reason I found and played elite dangerous but I won’t be tuning into your videos anymore because of the lack any future console content. You can keep my subscription, it’s well earned, you’ve fought hard on our side for a very long time and you deserve the likes and views but it breaks my heart to see this game in a stage I’ll never ever be able to play it at :( Farewell my friends 07
25.1) The design is very good! The commercial tourist section is very good, but there are suggestions to consider for the BRIDGE: 25.1.1) The fleet's control room needs to look like a workspace, like an aircraft carrier's air control tower, not a relaxation chair. I suggest placing a table with a hologram of the ship in front of the commander's chair and speakers that narrate the air traffic (landing and takeoff requests and conversations with other areas of the ship). This is what is called the bridge, where the Captain of the ship is located, who is the one who gives orders to those who are at the tables and screens that are on the lower level. Right below there is the helmsman (who actually navigates the aircraft carrier), the maneuver operator (who informs the engine room of the speeds necessary to control the ship), and the service foreman (who monitors all the information about the navigation). Finally, there are also lookouts and support staff. Just below, we have the Central da Bandeira, which is a command center for the admiral in charge of the entire air group on board. Below this Central, there are several operational centers, including the deck maneuvering control, and the launch operations room - a small room, without windows, where the Maneuver Officer is, in charge of the garrison and monitoring of the entire movement of aircraft on the flight deck and in the hangars. 25.1.2) In this room stay the brain of all operation of ship. Around the commander there should be 24 people working in the control of the ship (ship functions and flight control). In addition, rooms for Capitan and other for Crew and drones, androids must do maintenance, cleaning and deliveries. Even considering that the main purpose of "Fleet Carrier" is not combat, there is a lot of interior and work routines that can be leveraged in development. I don't think it's a good idea to leave tourist chairs near the bridge, there can be situations and problems that make passengers panic or nervous. The ship hangar is perfect! The lighting, colors... Great 25.1.3) Another problem is the lack of internal signage for directions. It is true that, over time, players will memorize the paths, but there are always signs indicating paths, routes in "tourist or public" areas. For example, what we see at 11:30 are lockers, escape pods, weapon lockers, emergency systems, drone charging cabinets...I don´t understand??? 25.1.4) The panels are pretty and decorative, but what kind of information is being displayed? And why so repetitive? What is this information that has to be seen at all times? This is a billboard... It can be used in spy missions for coded messages like advertisements and other information like: the occupation of the ship; fixed internal and floating population; fleet owner information; about the captain; prices of commodities and items sold/purchased by the ship; scheduled departures/last location before current and time spent there; alerts and situations that occur in the fleet; escape routes and devices and assist in emergency lighting. These screens would be similar to those seen by the crew on the bridge. 25.1.5) Consider adding a multi-game casino table next to the bar area, where the player can sit and win/lose money from players who are on the same fleet or telepresence. Events and championships would be announced on loudspeakers and on panels. Han Solo won Falcon Millennium in a game of Sabacc, a card game of chance. This would attract other types of players to the game. There are people addicted to card games. They could buy ARXs to convert into game money and you can study whether they allow game money to be converted into Arxs and Arxs into real money. 25.1.6) Security will be needed to kick out hooligans, cheaters and put them in detention. And maybe it's interesting surveillance by surveillance cameras and surveillance drones. 25.1.7) Finally, consider building the operational areas already described in item 21 (War of Comets)
I was hoping for some subtle effects going on with with far edge of the carrier, showing that the engineers are really pushing their luck with such huge ships. It might rend itself apart in hyperspace and drop out with debris scattered light-seconds apart. Someone posted a spoofed or fake version with really wild (psychedelic, but pretty clearly not very advanced) visual effects, like multicolored weblike lights dancing around
The exit sequence is so so.. the rest of the sequence with the lightning is nice. Two years... better later than never... I just hope fdev will add VR to legs so I will finally buy Odyssey
@@kaplishk This is a particle effect that couldn't be scaled up to an entire environment. The clouds near your ship could use effects like this, but the rest of the giant would have to render some other way. Thankfully the Cobra engine already supports volumetric clouds, so that should work.
Console fleet carrier owner here. Just started a jump sequence after the update. 55 minutes to jump now. Awesome. Not only can I not watch the jump sequence, but it takes an hour. You're killing it Frontier, literally.
@@barking_mad6649 thanks, doesn't make me feel better though. My fleet carrier has been rendered useless so all the oddessy players can get their services. What a joke
Wow, that jump sequence - awesome 🙂One thing that blew me away was scale in ED, it was the first game I played in VR that really captured that. Would be interested to know what Odyssey is like in VR, especially the moving around on foot etc.
Sadly there's no real VR support for walking around on foot. You get a flat in-headset display instead, which is pretty disappointing. It's not too jarring when you get used to it, but it's a real missed opportunity. Frontier have said they're not planning on doing any more development on VR so it's what we're stuck with.
Amazing vid along with the full tour, the beginning was so impressive (glad you didn't just tease it but showed it immediately), this alone got me excited about odyssey again
Sadly, I feel like it is too little too late. This has been retail since 2015. It is one-half measure after another. Odessey still doesn't run right. If SC gets VR support, I may not return to Elite. That's the only thing keeping it installed. VR space dogfighting.
The whole Fleet Carrier jump mechanic somewhat reminds me of Starpoint Gemini Warlords with their planet cracker. It couldn't fly but had a jump drive to jump anywhere. However, it was defenseless and wasn't accepting ships
looks great but i'll never understand why FDev added fleet interiors when they said they weren't going to do any ship interiors. i thought they said that it would get boring the 50th time
they said they wont add ship interiors Fleet interiors are basicly the same as station interiors with the same things to do in them while alsonot being a nightmare to produce and actually having a function
I like the interiors , I think the art department have done a fine job. being able to sit down was a welcome surprise. I do hope this is the start of something bigger. looking at you ship interiors.
The sound design for this is simply amazing. It has such an eerie and horrific tone to it and really conveys how much energy is going into pushing something this size through space. Who knows what things we might wake up while doing so!
It doesn't. The lore reason, is that because there is no sound in space it would eventually drive humans crazy on long journeys. So, they developed an AI that generates sound based on what is happening with and around the ship to help with that and to allow for better piloting. The sound you are hearing is what the AI thinks it sounds like when you quite literally tear a hole in the very fabric of space and shove a giant hunk of metal through it.
I'd like if visually the ship started stretching or contorting at the far ends to show how close these carriers are to the absolute edge of this technology
Let me rephrase. 95% of people would be sick 🤣 I don't think any developer would develop a feature for such a tiny minority of people who are obvious outliers lol
@@Ryan-lk4pu I see both sides of the debate and understand VR is still a niche market which is rapidly growing..... but when you advertise and market your game for VR and include in it's description "VR Compatible" and then years later release extra content which isn't VR inclusive, it's insulting to those who invested 500+ hours and $100+ cosmetic purchases to support the game development. Genuine slap in the face.
@@Ryan-lk4pu 95% is a gross overstatement. the vr industry would already be dead if that many people were unable to simply walk around in vr. there are hundreds if not thousands of vr titles out by now that let the player walk freely.
Yess!!! This is amazing! My complain is about the desing of bridge (It's a workplace... I hope something similar a bridge of a aircraft carrier bridge and not a show room)... The owner will spend millions of credits in wage with people that he never see working. Ohhh See my suggestions on Elite Dangerous Forum... (Seek War of Comets)
Well that looks cool. Because I’ve watched this here means I probably don’t need to login myself now. Shame there’s basically no other content in odyssey I’d play.
the fake/baked lighting in the fleet carrier interior from the jump sequence is horrible. it keeps the interior lighting from your last location through the entire jump and once the loading screen is complete, it just switches to the new location a bad way imo. once you notice...
I love that I can still here the individual sounds used in the mix. Sound of a plane engine shutting down Sound of a old ship with metal squealing against each other in a rough tide Sound of a commercial diesel truck down shifting and some other generated sounds
When they cancelled VR support I knew the game was dying. One thing that carried ED was how immersive their VR experience was. Could you imagine standing on the surface of one of trillions of planets. You being able to reach down and touch the planets surface with your hand. The game lost something that could’ve saved it in the long run
I think to add a more dramatic flair the lighting should strike the ship and sort of run along it, like entering witchspace( I think that is what they call the FSD space) it is pulling the ship in.
@@Joseph-wh5of Thanks Joseph, you completely get it. :) I can like something and criticise it at the same time. Did anyone else notice the functioning escape pods on their carriers? When used, they take you to your last known safe location. Remove any unregistered bio-data and leaves your active ship at it's current location. Is this a psudo "suicidewinder" feature for those way out in the black to get back to the bubble?
Yes. It's because people sometimes log out on FCs then come back and they're in the middle of butt fudge nowhere cause it jumped while they were onboard.
Why did the testers not report to the development team that the "ATTENTION" notification in the top right of the screen appears 3.5 seconds after the two main timers?
Whatever witchspace is must go through space that is filled with particles like lagrange clouds. It would explain the presence of lightning during the jump sequence.
The crew member sitting down middle left, in front of a huge console and screen. Yet they are fiddling with a giant ipad.. What are they doing? Checking space facebook instead of working.
There’s a bug in the carrier if you jumped to another system you Can’t no longer disembark from your ship to go to the carrier lift’s. The jumps have changed from 15 minutes to 49 Minutes!
I just updated my odessey account and my disembark is grayed out..but seeing your jump and quick tour I have to say that first impressions are very positive..I'm gutted our console community can't have this as well .

This actually looks promising to me, first time since odyssey launch I'm saying that. Like a look at a small part of what Odyssey could've been... I hope they keep introducing more good, immersive features like this. Maybe it's not too late for Elite. I doubt it, but maybe.
@@Nxphilym I think it will happen. Especially since they will need to focus on improving the game and adding things that players want in order to win back the ppl that have left the plantation. Looks like a good opportunity for FDev to enable a carrier to get intercepted by Thargoids and make the player have to use weapons to repel any thargoids who board the ship.
im honestly surprised they let you see the jump. ive learned to keep my expectations SO low for fdev that i figured they would put you in a seat and close the window shutters (or put you in a seat facing the WALL) the same way they forced your ship down into the hangar and wouldnt even let you see it from the carrier management screen.
@@Canadian_Ale yeah I just tried to a different location and it was 51, it looks like there’s a base and they add to it depending on distance instead of a flat 15. I really wanted to see the jump firsthand but I don’t want to sit here for an hour waiting.

I wish carriers had some sort of messaging system. When I am on a Carrier, it is a DSSA Carrier and I would like it if I could leave a short message/thank you after I have used their services. Was on the Deep Space 27 last night wich is obviously barebones still but it was nice to look around in the little area given.
I think they should have set it so the fleet carriers - which I assume can travel much further into deep space? - don't arrive so near the star and have to supercruise the rest of the way
@@TheEmeraldYT Granted yes it's a cool loading screen. But after 30 minutes it's going to loose its appeal. Didn't FDEV say that about ship interiors? Drugs are illegal but easily obtained in the UK it seems as fresh shipments make it to the offices of FDEV on a regular basis.
wow, that was kind of underwhelming. sure the lighting was nice but there was no sense of ripping a hole in the fabric of space time. took a few seconds for me to even realize we were in hyper space. needs to be a bit more of a violent gut punch. as it is i don't think anyone needed to sit down and brace them selves as is required by the game.
Seriously. The regular ship warp feels more intense. The clouds are great but the tunnel is the visual equivalent of riding across a smooth pond. It should match the intensity and ominous nature of the entry clouds.
iirc the FSD fleet carriers are capital ships are using older technology, and if that's the case I understand why the original spessmen where horrified of jumping

25.1) The design is very good! The commercial tourist section is very good, but there are suggestions to consider for the BRIDGE:
25.1.1) The fleet's control room needs to look like a workspace, like an aircraft carrier's air control tower, not a relaxation chair.
Great
25.1.3) Another problem is the lack of internal signage for directions.
TL:DR
Need to add more of a flare to the jump. Looks the same as jumping in a normal ship minus the lightning.

Doubt it at this point. They are pruning development and not adding so I don't think we'll see it.

I totally agree with the comment on audio. Elite dangerous has always excelled in that department.

Mike was right. No half-measures
The whole Fleet Carrier jump mechanic somewhat reminds me of Starpoint Gemini Warlords with their planet cracker. It couldn't fly but had a jump drive to jump anywhere. However, it was defenseless and wasn't accepting ships
And here I though FDEV said no ship interiors because it doesn’t bring any gameplay value, yet they do it for carriers.
Very nice indeed. Can't wait for a Thargoid interdiction of a Fleet Carrier...
I have my doubts as to whether FDev can implement ship interiors and meaningful atmospheric landings, but this at least gives me hope for the former.

So strange that nearly none of the ship designs in Elite Danger makes sense. Everyone is flying on their back while "sitting" down...
looks great but i'll never understand why FDev added fleet interiors when they said they weren't going to do any ship interiors.
i thought they said that it would get boring the 50th time

Fleet interiors are basicly the same as station interiors with the same things to do in them while alsonot being a nightmare to produce and actually having a function
Looks like entering and exiting Warp, in WH40K.
But unlike WH40K, there's no risk of corruption, daemons, or the bizarre travel time.

@@Josua070 I dare you to drop the Gella... I mean the shields mid jump.
I love the capital ship and fleet carrier jump animations. Very cinematic!!
Didn't know that lightning creates thunder in space. Learning something new every day!
Two changes I would make to the jump sequence, make the ship vibrate and have the hull be hit by lighting.
Having the hull be hit by lightning would make the 100,000cr cost for jumping make sense
I'd like if visually the ship started stretching or contorting at the far ends to show how close these carriers are to the absolute edge of this technology
@Okabe Rintaro that sequence was really cool, what of it?
This would look amazing if they included proper "on-foot" VR.

I can just imagine the view from the bridge immediately after a Farragut jumps into a high CZ
I love that I can still here the individual sounds used in the mix.
Sound of a plane engine shutting down
Sound of a old ship with metal squealing against each other in a rough tide
Sound of a commercial diesel truck down shifting
and some other generated sounds
Frontiers audio department always hits a home run IMO. Those guys know there acoustics!
Man it's such a shame I'll not be able to experience this in VR. That's the stuff scifi dreams are made of. Looks very cool though.
When they cancelled VR support I knew the game was dying. One thing that carried ED was how immersive their VR experience was. Could you imagine standing on the surface of one of trillions of planets. You being able to reach down and touch the planets surface with your hand. The game lost something that could’ve saved it in the long run
Honestly this is why I stopped playing, or at least will never play Odyssey. I haven't even touched ED since it came out
I think to add a more dramatic flair the lighting should strike the ship and sort of run along it, like entering witchspace( I think that is what they call the FSD space) it is pulling the ship in.
