Now they need to make autominers (something that only mines so much but it's a good bit and you have to come back and pick the resources up) so that way people aren't constantly having to only do mining and can actually play the game.

It would be great if we could assign our NPC crew members to the carrier and give them orders to mine for Tritium to deposit in the Fleet Carrier storage or maybe send them off to hunt down bounties to earn money for you to help with the upkeep costs.

I've sold over 10,000 items and made 600 million credits, all the while I do other things as well. I'm surprised how many people actually find my carrier to buy things since advertising is almost impossible.

One thing I would have liked is upgrades for it, like a fuel scoop that basically drops down underneath and scoops tritium from stars like the destiny ship in stargate universe, and it could also be selected when to use it as it, because if you just want to jump without scooping it you can (by default) otherwise it would need to fly to the star before its final destination (unless the destination is the systems star) and it's arrival time after leaving would be like 2 mins longer to fill the tritium depot.

Thanks so much for putting this video up, it's the only one i've found that actually gets into what owning a fleet carrier entails. everything else i've seen is really just first look criticism or speculation. i really appreciate you taking the time to break it down and you've solidified my decision to grind up the money to buy one.
i do have a couple of questions though, if anyone from experience since the carriers have officially dropped in-game. Location obviously plays a part in the revenue generation but, my question is, is it realistic to believe this thing could pay for itself? i intend on getting all of the available services to provide the full array of resources for anyone needing it.
also, if anyone knows, what do the packages look like as far as items that can be bought specifically for resale? and is there a way to sell my personal modules/ships on the carrier or is that a "package only" type thing?
also, if you have the means and desire, could you make a short video detailing that? (commodity and module/ship market/buy/sell aspect of carrier if there is any)

We should be able to fit our carriers with specific types of internal modules so it could work more effectively. With the commodity market able to give the FC owner a cut (and allow them to sell any of the cargo in their own market at another station) other players are able to bring wealth onboard to pay the bills. @@alexanderpinney maybe - I have about 6b left - 3 in carrier, 3 in "wallet" - I don't think I'll be getting Odyssey due to apparent lack of VR support and space legs was not something that ever excited me much, if I am going to play something without VR and space legs then Star Citizen really has a bunch more to offer. What I would like to see from Elite is more feeding of the RNG engine - more planet types, more stuff to find - the mystery of it wore off for me. I never found combat that great or compelling as it becomes grinding due to no real meaning to it, I did do some PVP but could not really think of a purpose so that got boring... As far as building a base - might be cool but if it is like FC where you grind for the sake of grinding then that will just be another reason for me to pass on Odyssey. I really do love Elite, had many, many hours for my $ but I think once you hit a wall with it, it's hard to go back especially when everything they add seems to be just more grind with no real reason Frontier don't know how to make it fresh again for people like me... I like your videos. They are very insight- and helpful. But I really missed you adressing the very bad "design" decision, that you actually need to use one of your ships to transfer fuel to the carrier, instead of just transfering it from carrier cargo directly to its fuel depot.
This is a major flaw and should be fixed soon. It kills immersion big time! And I hope that you as a renowned youtuber adress this issue, so that Frontier might listen and change it...
    State of now:
To refuel your carrier, you have to
    - travel to it,
    - change your ship to one with a large cargo hold,
    - put your Tritium into your ship,
    - change to a completely different menu,
    - and "donate" it to your own carrier.
WTH?! This is not to be "toxic". (I am not angry.) But how on Earth was this released in that poor state? I really do not comprehend this. Who thought this is a good idea and actually made it like that? This should just not be given a pass. It's bad.
Thank you again for your videos! They helped a lot to understand the game better. I just wished you were more vocal about the the blatant shortcomings of the game. There are many, and I'm sure I don't have to list them here for you to notice them. I like much about Elite but Frontier needs feedback, positive AND negative. As long as it is constructive.
And it is constructive to say "This is bad design." Because it is and has no need to be there. I sometimes think people conflate criticism with negativity. But criticism comes with the wish to improve and is constructive by nature... Well, I wrote too much already, who's going to care anyway :)
Whatever you decide, however, I will still view you as one of the most helpful youtubers when it comes to Elite. Cheers!

Frontier nerfed passenger missions long ago just like board hopping and mining with mining being still the most lucrative unless you want to spend time out in the black running a road to riches route. It’s grind this grind that or you have no credits or materials and to top it off here’s this 5 billion credit ship that unless you took advantage of an exploit or you’re not exactly an “average” amount of time player you’ll never get to purchase it costs 88 million a month for the privilege of owning it and that’s not even fully outfitted Frontier literally took their dick out and pissed in everyone’s faces

    Questions CMDR
1.) Do you manually take out cargo from carrier and fly to a starport to sell goods? Or can it be automated, like selling minerals from carrier to starport directly?
2.) Same as number one, do you manually refuel your fleet carrier? From Starport to fleet carrier? Or can it be automated?
3.) Does outfitting modules consume your fleet carrier's cargo?
4.) If you die, will you respawn on your carrier? (Last landing stop vs in the system, but not your last landing stop)

1 and 2) You need to use a ship to transport anything from station to FC, goods, fuel, money and Rubber ducks
      3) Yes
      4) As long as the Carrier doesn't move (inside system or to another one) you will respawn at the carrier, if the carrier moves a fraction of an atom then you will respawn at the last docking before the FC (repeat if you also landed on another FC before docking in yours)

As you can probably tell I don't currently have a fleet carrier so I apologise if it's a dumb question. How do you know the exact location where the carrier will jump to, can you for example tell it to jump to your exact location or can you find it's exact location like a signal source after setting to jump but before the carrier arrives?
Also if you buy commodities from other commanders like ore/minerals via your market, how do you then sell that to a station?, do you have to buy a trading ship to ferry the good to a station or is there an easier way?

It makes literally ever aspect of the game easier. You can park your own personal star port anywhere. 25,000 cargo space that you can jump 500 ly. If you don't understand the benefits of that, you don't comprehend the game's mechanics. Like that's not even mentioning the fact that you can buy commodities from other players (which was never possible before).

Fdev really need to provide another way to refuel the fleet carrier. I just can't mine anymore. Its boring, soul sapping, mind numbing. Its the reason I have stopped playing Elite just a few days after Fleet Carriers launched and haven't been back since. I just can't/wont do any more mining.
Before anyone says just buy Tritium. I have 23K of Tritium aboard. I am 5000Ly from the bubble. I tried mining to see how long it would take to refuel for even just one jump. The result is too much. Imagine being on the other side of the galaxy with an empty hold. Now mine 23+K of tritium. Even if I managed to get to the triple out near Beagle point I just can't stand the idea of mining that much. What if I don't want to go to Beagle but elsewhere? Sorry Fdev but find another way to refuel this thing or just scrap the entire refueling altogether. The need to mine to get anything in this game is ridiculous. It really needs to be balanced with other game play loops.

    • @MozillaFirefoxx

So you wont play anymore because you went so far away you`ve run out of fuel? But its the devs fault ? Guess you blame gas station when you run out of fuel on your car too, sorry man but your comment just made me burst in laugh. I agree the mining is annoying, but your not supposed to go alone on the other side of the galaxy with a fleet carrier, not without having logistics problems of course, theres a reason people use normal ships with fuel scoops to explore

    • @scorpion29a
      @scorpion29a 4 года назад +1

Accured cost is the cost you already have to pay based on how much did you used services, Projected costs is what you will still need to pay based on time remaining until next payment cycle. If you add all expenses together you get to the big number shown above, which is how much you'll pay at next upkeep (if you don't change any service, jump, etc)

so theoretically can you use this for extremely fast trading? say I jump it into a system that manufactures gold. I could take all of the ships I'm carrying to the station and fill them with gold and then bring them back to the carrier. I could also fill the carrier with gold and then when everything is full I can jump it into a system that's demanding gold and empty the hold and all my ships. am I correct?

That wouldn't work, you can fill up your carrier cargo and 1 ship with cargo. But not all your ships also full of cargo.
You can't switch from T9 with say 500t and then get into a sidewinder, you have to dump the 500t before it would let you switch.

  • @shperax

I don't understand the point of a Fleet Carrier. Maybe if they were to remove the "demand" feature from stations. Its not like anyone is gonna save up 25,000T of LTD then turn them in at any 1 spot because the demand will always screw you over. So then you need to jump around like 10 times to turn them all in. 200 minutes of just turning in LTD. Seems easier to just drop 550T from your cutter build at a time every hour only 60-80LY away since you don't need Overlaps at all.

Aye, that's the number one, need to know thing. Lots of info online at various stages of its development and some of it contradictory. If decommissioned, from what I understand you get the cost of the modules and hull back less any debt the carrier incurred and maybe a fee? What about depreciation, was it removed completely? I know you get your ships and modules back at a nearby station but what about the credits you have in the carrier (assuming you forgot to drain it before decommission). What about anything you have in storage, is that lost? This vid was very helpful as a users guide on how to operate the carrier. I was looking for more info about the risks of owning one financially.

I don't think that will work. Under budget, there is both projected and accrued costs. They update every day. You would have accrued all week. The upkeep would probably be prorated. I know I suspend cartography until I need it but it really doesn't save that much.
