    I have been studying BGS for three years now . I could write a book at this point maybe a very large sized book. The weird part is not a lot of differences , You go up or you go down at the end of the day but the details are crazy long. Population sizes specific mission details, so many red flags to avoid , legal in one system is bad for another. All these tiny details add up to a greater whole. you literally have to go out to a specific point in space where no one else is with a low population , and experiment with single missions to see what the specific effects are each day , and what effects commodities have even legal commodities can have negative , or positive effects . Have to be very patient and have a pen and paper ready to remember what you did with the effects that take place the next day after the bgs tik. and no one wants to share the really good stuff because you would have too much power early on.

    I wish everyone could make their own faction just paying a few billion credits (so the game is not spammed with them if it would be too cheap to create) and you could profit from it or lose money if you are at war or under other harmful statuses... After you buy a fleet carrier there is kidna nothing left to do and nothing else to spend money on .... why can't they add something expensive to work towards.

    Why are player factions allowed to control these systems?

  • @KubaxKristallmond

    9:45 Inara can only display the data that was supplied from EDSM, EDMC or other sources, and a Pilot needs to land at a Outpost/Station/ground Port with either of the mentioned 3rd Party programs running or else there be no correct update of who owns what. Goes even more for non-landable assets like Installations, so in other words NEVER take what you see on Inara for granted, ALWAYS doublecheck with the System map.
    11:48 Control of a System means the majority of the Bounties farmed within go to the controlling Faction and can be utilised elsewhere as well. So one would do well to keep a few Systems with good RES farming under their control.
    Furthermore, depending on the Government type of who takes over, you will have more/less tradeable goods, active/disabled Black Markets and so forth. Even the exterior looks will change, Coriolis will glow blue/red/green/white depending on the Ethos of the Government taking over. Same goes for the Sigils (Empire/Federation/Alliance/Independent). And sometimes even parts of the Stations will be derelict / missing, flickering lights etc. (Anarchy).
    Also, Conflict types don't have anything to do with Native vs. Non-native, different Government do. Civil Wars and Wars are the same, with the first happening between native (P)MF of the same System yet different Government types.
    12:25 Expansions: triggered normally at surpassing 75%. 24h after the pending period will start, currently 4-5 days. Live period is 5-6 days. Once Expansion has been triggered it can't be stopped. Once it has run its course the 15% tax will kick in.
    12:55 Expansion cube is regularly 40x40ly from the System the Expansion originates from. Exception: when there is no viable destination within the whole area the next Expansion will go into a 60x60ly cube radius.
    14:45 Retreat is currently 1 day pending, 5-6 days live. The (P)MF that is supposed to get kicked need to be below 2.5% on the day before the Retreat concludes, else it stays.

    It should be known... BGS is a lot of fun once you learn about it...but a warning to any minor faction looking to get into BGS...you should know...that if your faction doesnt support the superpower that the faction resides in, theres a good chance that theres a player group who DOES support that super power and could create major issues...

    • @ScottSlooper
      @ScottSlooper 3 года назад +2

      Totally true. There are large groups of people out there watching the faction states in all of their neighbors and preventing any change from the state that they prefer. And they can do it in Solo so it is invisible and extremely frustrating if you happen to be there trying to do something. BGS needs to be made in Open only. The fact that people in Solo or Private Groups affect BGS is an extreme imbalance in the game. You can easily disagree with my position by saying that in real life big guys of course can and do manipulate the course of events over little guys, both openly and covertly, so it is realistic to let this continue in the game. My practical advice is if BGS is the most important thing to you in the game, then you need to join a really big and dedicated squad or find a really out of the way corner of the galaxy where there are no other players.

    • @Khunvyel
      @Khunvyel 3 года назад +1

      @@ScottSlooper I disagree with you because this is a game that was intentionally designed in a way that people can affect the game world without the requirement of competing with others directly online. Your opinion basically goes against the very design principle of the developers. If you want to separate open play from private/solo play then this would mean that they have to manage two different server networks and two different instances of BGS, which severely misses the point. Another thing is that the argument of "the little guy can't do anything anyway" is categorically wrong. Not every player faction is also maintained and nurtured by their original creators. Some only still have top slot in influence because people do missions for most agents at the same time, thus evenly distributing influence gain anyway. It goes even further though. Once you understand the BGS , you can actually influence systems even in solo mode. A group of a handful of players, depending where they reside, can carve a space for their faction in relatively low time.
      Just look at powerplay a few hours before the cycle resets, and look at how heavily wasted the efforts in there are. They could get so much more done if every effort in there was coordinated. But it isn't. The same with BGS and player factions. It isn't as strict and tightly knit as you think.

    • @ScottSlooper
      @ScottSlooper 3 года назад +2

      @@Khunvyel I can't argue anyone's intent, because I just don't know. I hear your point. I do know that BGS is very heavily controlled by very large factions in my corner of the galaxy. Unless you have 100 dedicated players you can't do anything your huge neighbors don't want you to do here, and they exert their control with impunity in Solo or Private Groups. This feels very unfair.

    • @Khunvyel
      @Khunvyel 3 года назад

      @@ScottSlooper Let me pose a different question then: do you think you would fare any better if it was forced to open play? What gives you the impression you would fare better? Chances are if they are bigger, they can also bring more ships and protect their reinforcment shipments better. Or just have the numbers to only suffer setbacks while you don't have any progress at all. Do you just want to have this on principle so you can at least say "well, we tried, and we got shot down" instead of not seeing the others? Despite it not changing anything about the end result?
      Don't misunderstand me, I'm not telling you to quit or just suck it up. What is your group thinking for the future? What makes the place you are trying to get so special that you don't want to try it elsewhere? Have you tried it before in the past and moved a couple of times already?
      In the end, it's the "if you can't beat them, meet them" consideration. You might be better off trying to align your faction with the interests of others in the area, communicate and coordinate with those that would be on your side. That way you won't be fighting alone, or always have the feeling that nobody has your back.

    • @ScottSlooper
      @ScottSlooper 3 года назад +2

      @@Khunvyel It would get a lot spicier very fast if we could see them and interact with them while they were disrupting us in our own system. We have been told that they are sending all of their new players into our system in Solo to grind for the other factions, thereby disrupting our BGS. If BGS was Open only, that would stop immediately for sure because those noobs would be respectfully chatted to, explained what we are trying to do here and what they're being told to do is doing to us, and if they ignore us and persist in working against us in our own system they would shot down in our system. The ones who were sympathetic to our situation we would try to recruit, and we would probably start siphoning off a portion of their noobs. If BGS was Open only, the most experienced players who are good at PvP would have to dedicate their playing time and their Rebuy CR to disrupting our BGS work, and that is time they wouldn't have for their own systems. They wouldn't be able to freely use our stations because we would jump them on the way in and out. They wouldn't be able to fly through the system as easily because we'd attack them at the jump points. While their experts were disrupting us in our system, they would be wide open to disruption of their BGS in their systems, and we would publicize this to their enemies. All of this would reduce outside interference in our system dramatically. So yes, it would make a huge difference. It would also raise PvP skills to a higher level in the entire CMDR population. Maybe the fdev feel not enough systems are actively played for in BGS, and that's why they let the big guys control everybody in Solo and Private Groups. I don't know. But it does make it very frustrating when you're not a very large squadron.

    BGS should be treated like a daily job. Don't expect to see growth with work you do as you have many more players doing random things.
    Not everyone is going to play nice either you need to reach out to other player groups and avoid conflict where possible as it's a complete waste of time to fight players in bgs.
    thankfully my group is good enough to do daily work for 2 years now and we have slowly grown in size.
    BGS players are very less, even in squads which are 400 members BGS daily players are in low numbers 5-20. So don't be afraid of the number of players in a squad instead learn to play efficient ;)

    How low the population must be, so any effort by, I repeat, a single player can be seen?

      I’m interested to know the same. I do realize 1 person is up against a lot of “other” factors in game, especially large groups, bots, people in solo etc. I guess I’m mostly interested in the role play aspect of bgs. I don’t need to conquer every system in the galaxy with a npc faction, I just want to keep this one in particular “healthy” in the system I call home. A more advanced guide to promoting a faction?

    • @Khunvyel
      @Khunvyel 3 года назад +4

      The key is population count. A single commander is barely going to make a dent in a system that has several billion in population. If you go to a couple of thousand though, that makes each individual influence change.

    • @Khunvyel
      @Khunvyel 3 года назад

      @Ares Lictor Yes, of course :) What I mentioned was a rough estimation on how much of a difference one can expect to see over a given time, if they were all by themselves :) Checking traffic through various websites and also the ingame system nav info is key to understand how much you're "on your own" out there. As a rule of thumb; systems with no large station, or when stations are far from the arriving star are not really that much frequented. For some reason people don't like to land on large planetside stations, although getting the gist to land smoothly isn't really difficult. True, you can't use the supercruise assist "cheat", but it's still doable. Also, the further you are out, the less people there usually are. Especially when you're outside of PP influence. The big downside of remote systems with little population is, that you can't rely on trading much due to the low supply/demand.

      Charles; how exactly did that happen and work out? Why was that the reason of powerplay and how do you know that? I can't quite think of a reason why a faction would hurt the powerplay because both of these playtypes can be very well separated from each other and are about very specific spots in space. In which span of time did that happen and how many of the 50 systems did you lose? Were you kicked out of all of them or are you still "present" in those systems, just not in control?

    • @SageLakshmi
      @SageLakshmi 3 года назад

      @@Khunvyel I'd rather not divulge into too many details because it is very much a "he said, she said" situation, but I'll say this much... it comes down to government type. If a bgs faction chooses a government type that is not favorable with the superpower that the said faction resides in, then that's not good for the superpower. I forget exactly how many but a super power needs to have in control, a certain government type that holds control of several systems in order to get the cc from that bubble. If you're ever flying around ALD space... take a look and see which factions are in control of whatever random system you're in. I bet you its fuedal or patronage since those are the types that benefit ALD. So imagine how power play factions feel when a smaller bgs faction pops up in their space and isnt their government type.

Once you leave the CZ, through fleeing an ongoing battle or through winning or losing the battle and heading home, then turn in your Combat Bounties at a station with that Contact and get your CR, your Rep with the faction that you supported, and your credit towards opening the engineers that care for Combat Bounties. I have found CZs to be a nice part of the game, especially if I've been out grinding engineering mats, exploring, or running a lot of Missions.

    This is a great intro video, thank you! I wish I had seen this two months ago. To everyone new to BGS and interested in attempting to play in this sandbox, there are very large, powerful, knowledgeable, and dedicated squadrons out there watching the faction states in all of their neighbors and preventing any change from the faction states that they prefer. And they can do it in Solo or Private Group mode so it is invisible and extremely frustrating if you happen to be there trying to do something on your own or as part of a relatively smaller squadron. BGS needs to be made in Open only to allow everyone to participate fairly. The fact that people in Solo or Private Groups affect BGS is an extreme imbalance in the game, because people from outside your system can very easily come in and disrupt your BGS work without you being able to see them and respond. You can easily disagree with my position by saying that in real life big guys of course can and do manipulate the course of events over little guys, both openly and covertly, so it is realistic to let this continue in the game. But this is a game, and they set the rules, and do they want to let everyone play, or do they want it to be unfair like real life? The way BGS works in the game now is extremely unbalanced, and as long as that continues my practical advice is if BGS is the most important thing to you in the game, then you need to join a really big and dedicated squad or find a really out of the way corner of the galaxy where there are no other players. Otherwise you are going to get really, really frustrated and you won't know why every time your favored faction begins making real progress, suddenly over the next few days you get pummeled back down to where you were before, regardless of how many hours you and your buddies spent doing whatever you did.

      this is exactly what happened to my faction. We had neighboors that have 1000s of members and they watched our territory very closely. And from the shadows, they began stripping control station and then control systems from our 6 man faction. At one point our faction was in and almost controlled over 50 systems and then one day a PP faction decided that since we werent fuedal/patronage that we needed to be downsized. And it was all done from the shadows of private/solo

      It makes no difference making it open only anyway as long as there is no crossplay.

      @ScottSlooper 3 года назад +1

      @@ElvisKremmen I disagree. It makes a big difference because if you have a PC, you can at least see and react to everything on PC, which is a big part of what's going on. If you have members on both PC and PS4, which is pretty typical for a small squadron, you can push back on almost all of them, if it were just all in Open. Step by step. If you really care you will find someone on XBOX and then you'll be able to see everything. Perfection is the enemy of the good. I do wish there were crossplay; that would make the game a lot better.

      @ScottSlooper 3 года назад

      @@ElvisKremmen If I had the choice between PC-PS4-XBOX crossplay or restricting BGS and PP to Open only, I would choose crossplay. And I don't think that either one is unreasonable to ask for. The BGS/PP Open Only is a philosophical choice about what kind of a world that fdev wants ED to be. Real world where unfairness is very strong, or a fairer environment that gives a little more balanced footing and ability to grow to smaller, newer players/squadrons. As it is, there have been very large hurdles created by the large and established that prevent the small from growing anyplace the large/established operate, and this will continue to worsen until fdev does something to balance it. Maybe there are good systems for small/new squadrons to grow that are not dominated by large, established squadrons, and fdev wants that pressure to push people to those systems to develop there. I don't know. On the other hand, there's no reasonable argument I have ever heard from anyone that device crossplay is bad in any way.

    You will notice many posters on the forums will tell you they tried BGS and getting a small faction expanding but it was all a waste of time, don't think you can do something noble and believe it will work. Especially when you are up against n massive player group or mass cmdr spam playing in SOLO only. So a pro tip...ignore BGS, unless yoy like grinding with no reward in the end.

      This became clear with the recent botting thread and issues, what started as a thread to complain about botting, highlighted the communist player group who were trying to play the victim, but turns out was the huge player group being a bully crushing the small guys playing BGS.

      @@juan-pierreleroux8323 funny... the samething happened with my small player group of about 6 CMDRs against another player faction of over 1000... and the player group of over 1000 tried playing the victim too... My group was a group for 5 years and was in over 50 systems. The larger group of over 1000 decided my group was a nuisance to their power play and in solo, they slowly took away our systems no matter how hard we fought back to the point where our faction of our 5 years was pretty much completly demolished and most of our players quit because of it.

      @@SageLakshmi that is sad, sorry it was a waste of time, the blame lies entirely at Fdev side, quality game development and mechanics is not their speciality even with over 150 devs apparently working on ED, compared to the small team of Hello Games and No mans Sky (i dont play NMS). anyway they will need to find tools for small factions to cope against big factions to protect against ROFL stomp. I suppose you can always highlight your plight and ask the community for help, like there are many countering this communist player org currently, helping the small guy out. As for me BGS is broken and a complete waste of time.

I do blame dev for not having tools in place for the small factions like my own, but it's also the other faction trying to claim more territory in the name of their power play faction but acting under the guide of some galactic peace keeper
