Skincare Ingredients to Avoid when Micro-needling Blog Post: www.pennsmiths...
I have searched and searched to find products that fit these criteria:
    1. Accessible
    2. Affordable
    3. Free of problematic ingredients (I'll list at the bottom some to watch for)
    4. Full of GOOD ingredients
The Phases of microneedling (dermal needling: using a .5mm or longer needle) are:
    Day of/During treatment
    Days 1-5 Inflammatory Phase
    Days 6-14 Fibroplastic Phase
    Days 15-28 Maturative Phase
    Day 28 Needle again!
    Day Of
Only use a High Molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid
    I recommend
    *Cos De BAHA Hyaluronic Acid
    amzn.to/3fABQfW
    Days 1-5
    Continue HMW Hyaluronic Acid
    *Kiwi Seed Oil
*Growth Factors I have found a much better product since I made this video, it is called Reviv Ultimate Serum revivserums.co...
Code PENNYSMITH for a discount (Growth Factor Serum) Please note that this is a smaller company and shipping can take a few weeks- but it is well worth the wait!
    Vitamins A, *C, E
    SUN PROTECTION
    Recommended Kiwi Seed Oil:
    amzn.to/2W9Bm5k
    Recommended Growth Factor:
Reviv Ultimate Serum revivserums.co... CODE PENNYSMITH
    Vitamin C
    www.drmtlgy.co...

I like the retinol from Obagi:
    amzn.to/3aiHD4w
    Days 6-14
    *Continue Kiwi seed oil
    continue HA
    Continue Vitamin A C E
    ADD
    Green Tea
    *Copper Peptides
    Recommended Copper Peptide Serum:
(this has HA, Allantoin, GREEN TEA, Aloe...a great cocktail)
    amzn.to/2YAwQtW

    Days 15-28
Continue with what you've been using and add your acids back if you use them:
    Lactic
    Glycolic
    Azelaic Acid
Day 28 (or so) needle again!!
Weekly you can Nano needle or Cosmetically roll/needle. This works on your epidermis. I love to Nano Vitamin C for serious GLOW! You could do that for your vitamin C :))
    My video on Nano:
    • ☀️Nano Needling | How ...
    THINGS TO AVOID WHEN NEEDLING:
Preservatives (there are only a few that are sort of OK)
    Fragrance
    Surfactants
    Emulsifiers
    Emollients
Humectants (certain humectants at high percentages like urea over 10%)
ACIDS (don't pour acid down fresh channels ever!)

❤👍😍 Thank you for all your hard work in researching *MEDICAL MICRONEEDLING* for us!
My notes (for when I rewatch this again):
2:00 *Day 1* HA (only when using a dermapen so you have slip; omit for a dermaroller)
    3:40 *Days 2 - 5* (Inflammatory Phase) SPF + add vits A, C, E, EGF (epidermal growth factor)
5:05 *Days 6 - 14* (Fibroplastic Phase) add copper peptides, green tea, resveratrol, niacinamide
    5:30 *Days 15 - 28* add in acids
6:30 *Day 28* Repeat Medical Microneedling
👉 *MUST USE SPF DAILY* 👈
❤👍😍❤ Thank you Penny. This was clear and concise. I have been using a dermaroller for microneedling... I purchased a dermapen but have been putting it off using it... cuz it's all new to me.
Watching all your medical microneedling videos again to get all my ducks in a row. Lol 🦆🦆🦆

If you're looking for a hyaluronic acid (HA) that has few and all natural ingredients, I highly recommend making your own. It's not expensive and it is super easy. The only ingredients I put in mine are distilled water and HA powder. Nothing else. If you make your own, you have the power the choose the molecular weight of HA you want to buy, since a lot of HA on the market doesn't have the right molecular weight for it to be effective. Sometimes I do add glycerin to my HA, but that is the only other thing! Cheers.

Hi Penny, I have been watching and waiting for my orders to arrive. You have convinced me to do microneedle but am feeling anxious about doing it. I am almost 80 and now that I have been home for awhile it has given me a chance to really look at my skin. I don’t need to look 30 again but, just better. I have had the time to go through ingredient lists of sunscreens and have ordered from Europe so I have done that part but am stepping up my skincare routine. I want to thank you for all of the great information you have carefully researched and shared with us. You are the BEST!

If like me you're on a budget, contact The Ordinary - they're great at telling you what you need to use to address whatever it is you're looking to address. They're also affordable. Plus once you get your regimen, you're not under obligation to buy from them. I'm sure other companies do likewise but I know that The Ordinary don't try to sell you products you don't need. I don't work for them. I'm just a really happy customer.

One thing that worried me about that hexanediol in the hyaluronic acid was it says, " This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons.
    SKIN
    • This material can cause inflammation of the skin on contact in some persons.
    • The material may accentuate any pre-existing dermatitis condition.
    • Skin contact is not thought to have harmful health effects, however the material may still produce health damage following entry through
    wounds, lesions or abrasions.
    • Repeated exposure may cause skin cracking, flaking or drying following normal handling and use.
    • Most liquid alcohols appear to act as primary skin irritants in humans. Significant percutaneous absorption occurs in rabbits but not
    apparently in man.
    • Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material.
    • Entry into the blood-stream, through, for example, cuts, abrasions or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. Examine the
skin prior to the use of the material and ensure that any external damage is suitably protected."
Where it says it can cause damage if entered through abrasions. Well we are creating abrasions when we microneedle so what damage are they saying is going to happen?

I've used the HA baha you've recommended for microneedling and I wished I haven't. My face was on fire and pulsating for hours. Before, I've used my own HA( only 2 ingredients)made at home and didn't have such an reaction, but I thought I would give it a try the one you've recommended and I definitely am allergic to it.

I bought my Dr. Pen M8 last month & I used it first time without numbing cream & only with the Hyaluronic acid serum for slip. I know I didn’t have my pen on enough speed so it hurt in some areas on my face and kept it on .25 - .05 cause of first time microneedling. Moving on to buy the other serums you recommended. So all in all it was a surface session, no bleeding. 😊 Thank you for all your generous information on videos & your studies.

Hi Penn, you're brilliant as usual. ❤ I spent 9 months or so getting CIT done once a month. I was told by my last medical dermal therapist (that's an advanced esthetician in Australia) that it's best to from now on only do once a month for 3 months then have a break for 3 months then repeat due to the collagen not crosslinking or something (not sure of terminolgy). Can I dermaroll on the 3 months off between CIT regimen? Thanks x

Hi Penny, LOVE your videos, they are so informative, I am 51 and have acne scarring and large pores, have done lazer resurfacing (didn't really help) and various chemical peels I am purchasing a few things from your Amazon store but do not see any recommendations for face soap and have spent quite a lot of money trying many . Thank you!!

Retin A can help reduce pore size. It helps by building collagen AND shrinking sebaceous glands, both of which help that situation. Dermal needling also helps build collagen.

Thank you for the great advice! What do you think about The Ordinary Hyaluron?

    • @shannontaylor1847
      @shannontaylor1847 4 года назад +2

I just got my Dr.Pen x5 lastnight and I already had The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid I had been using with my rollers, afterwards, a lil sticky. I used it for with my Dr. Pen for slip, it dried up way too fast, I could barely get a small area done ( above lips and under) and the side I started on would be dried up and peeling off, I kept having to add water to my face gently so those goo drying peelin clumps wouldn't get jammed up in the needles. I found out after the fact that The Odinary's Hyaluronic acid is not high molecular weight, it was a mix of low, medium and high weights, so going with Penny's knowledge on needing to stay clear of low molecular weight ( wish I'd watched Jenny's vids on this before I bought The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid) so im not sure that's why it dried up so faced. but im going to now purchase Cos De Baha Hyaluronic acid and numbing gel. I couldn't wear my glasses while needling and the dial for needling length is backwards, so what I thought I was using .2 was really 2 and holy crap it felt like and sounded like I was using a small hammer and hitting my forehead with it. OUCH. I put my glasses on and watched closely at how far the needles protruded as I turned the dial to what should have been .1 it was in reality 1 length. I read about another customer complain about the needle length dial was calibrated wrong. I hope I don't have a faulty pen and have to send it back.

Thank you for passing on your in-depth knowledge & expertise. I appreciate you adding evidence based practice. On days 1-5 it says you can use Vit A, *C, E (not sure what the asterisk refers to). Then it specifies Day 3 for Retin-a (tretinoin) which is Vit A. You advised in another video NOT to use Vit C with microneedling, especially medical (0.5mm +) because of the possibility of granulomas. Why is it recommended here? Perhaps it's only L-ascorbic acid that you shouldn't use but other forms of Vit C are ok. Please clarify. Thanks Penny!

    • @PENNSMITHSKINCARE
      @PENNSMITHSKINCARE  Год назад +1

Hi there, vitamin C shouldn’t be used *with* medical needling. Meaning at the same time while the channels are open. By day after treatment the channels are closed so there’s no risk of granuloma.
The reason for the vitamin A distinction is that I don’t recommend tretinoin before day 3 but vitamin A is great days 1-2 (so retinol or retinaldehyde). I’ll go back and look and refine this to explain these nuances. I’ve written this and spoken about it so much that I forget that everyone doesn’t know what I mean ♥️😊

    • @PENNSMITHSKINCARE
      @PENNSMITHSKINCARE  Год назад +1

To further clarify- I mean that vitamin a is great days 1-5 but I wouldn’t go for tret until day 3 to avoid irritation. Going more gentle with vitamin a days 1-2 is best then onward as you see fit for your skin ♥️♥️

Note: I did not purchase the growth factors... for the fact it was way too pricy so the only one I had use is the one with * marked. I've bought round three already.

Finding more than 1 or 2 HMW HA's is daunting, so I'll try a little DIY. I do live in Northern CA, (dry in the summer) but using HA during the winter months (more moisture in the air) definitely helps.

I have never shopped on the wish App so I can’t speak to that. I purchase through the company or on amazon (an authorized seller).
What I feel like the question should be more often is “why is everything else SO expensive?”. ...
Hyaluronic acid isn’t expensive. It shouldn’t be sold for high dollar.
      Personal opinion.
But all that said, I agree with Sue, just skip it if you aren’t comfortable with it!
