I bought and Ender 3v2 and decided to forget it because settings were too hard for me, after watching your video and having bought another Ender printer I tried those settings and I am currently waiting for the print to be finished, and it looks perfect ! Can't thank you enough will give you a sub !
This was my first time trying it and it worked perfectly! Thanks for taking the time to go over all the settings. I can't wait to print all the pictures!
Outstanding !!! I am brand spanking new to the 3D FDM world and I found your site out of surfing and I thank you for your work and time. Please don't stop plus you got a sub .
Thanks so much. I've printed a lot of lithophanes for clients and friends. I am working on one now that is giving me fits and failed twice. I'm going to try your Cura settings and go for it again. Hopefully I will have a new setting system that works great.
Any light works, but If you wana make something custoom then Use Led with 60% dispersion , you dont want to focus on 1 spot , its not something you can just randomly drop and It will work. But natural light also works great if picture is on window for example.
I noticed on my 3d print before I sliced it that there were some red lines for overhang. I will probably try it just like you did and see if there is any issues but I may have to go back to the image to lithophane website and make the frame slightly thinner than 5mm.
When you mentioned what to do with a lighter image you said to up the thinnest layer i.e. 1.2 then add that to the thickness. Did you mean add the difference i.e. was 0.8 & 3 so if thinnest is 1.2 would thickness be 3.4 or 4.2? Thanks
awesome video if im doin a flat square should i print it flat or standing like you did and also if i wanted to do a print larger then my bed how bad do the seams show
Definitely standing up... Otherwise it will look like PAINT MODE where different shades are very blotchy. You will get a finer tone change in upright. But, I encourage you to try both and see the difference for yourself. Think of it as a science experiment. Good luck.
hello , I am trying to print using the same website, I have Anker 3d printer, any advice whais the better choice for fillemnt? I tried ABS but quality and details was very bad
Hi Id like to try this with my students. I don't know how to - the video was above my skill set. Do you have a super simple step by step project that I can learn on?
Yes, regular white PLA. Different PLA in white have different shades or tones. Hatchbox has a warm vintage shade of white. Also, the light will affect tone.
is it normal after importing my .stl file it delimitates some red areas/lines on my pic lithopane and gives the following error "The highlighted areas indicate either missing or extraneous surfaces. Fix your model and open it again into Cura" ?
hey again if i bring a rectangle picture in how do i make it square , do i have to do that in a photo editor ...basically when i bring it into cura it 90x 50 and i need it 90 x90
Hi there. Great and easy to follow. Just tried my first ever print by following this. Was all going well, until about 1 hour 40 minutes, when it started lifting off the bed? how can I stop this? As I say, first ever print, so have no idea what is causing it, and if it will affect the final print?? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Be sure super leveled... Make first layer with Brim .24mm height and about 15mm wide. If you orient print slightly turned, it will reduce the wobble and lifting. If glass... use Elmers purple glue stick. If textured.. be sure super clean bed and lower nozzle a bit more for more bite on bed. Try again... Good luck
@@tr3nDmaker Thanks for replying. I did follow this tutorial to the letter and put all settings in Cura exactly as yours. But I will try your suggestions on the next print. One other quick question. The quality of the print was very good, even though it lifted off completely after 2 hours, so can I use this profile for any print, or is this set-up specifically for lithophanes? Thanks again and I look forward to learning more with your help.
@@stevemaley3516 Yes, this is based off my stock profile. With a tuned printer... this will produce excellent results.. Just change bottom and top layers to 5 or 6. Infill to whatever you like... say 15-20%.
Great video. I’m pretty new to the 3D printing world. I’m trying my first Lithophane print by following your steps in the video and so far it’s coming out great. There is one very small spot that I got a couple lose strings. What do you think might cause that. The only thing I did do different from your settings was change my print temp to 205 instead of 210. Could that of caused the lose strings.
What are you doing with the lithophane after you make it? Do you have a base that you print/build so that it stands up without being knocked over easily?
Yes, most people either download a base off of Thingiverse or make their own. Each base would be different based on size, curve, thickness, and light used. Most 3D printers don't release these as they make money selling a finished product.
If you print is normally clean without lines… most likely. The back and forth of bed moving can make print sway or wobble. At a 45 degree angle, it lessens sway. Let me know if it helps.
Although I have a few very tweaked Cura profiles... each for specific situations. For my videos, I always run stock Cura settings, except for setting I adjust in video. This will let the viewer see what they can expect from their printers. That being said... My printer is 100% square, eccentric nuts are properly adjusted, belts adjusted and there is zero slop in x,y and z. Perfect bed level. If you are not getting good results from your printer... 80% time it is because something is loose, too tight or not square. 15% is just too fast. Maybe 5% is a bad setting. In video, I scroll thru my settings. You can copy every line and try it... But, I find, when I use someone else's profile... It just doesn't work that well. Good Luck and let me know how it goes or if you need help on something.
If you use Inner Curve and Mirror the image you get a curved lithophane you view form the outside of the curve, but you don't see the image until it is back lit.
I have seen people using colors and grays before without issue. If going black… you will need to compensate for less light by using much thinner walls. You will likely need to experiment for your filament with thinnest and thickest walls to get optimal results.
I have a 5th grade 3D Design Club and we made these after I watched your video! The kids and their parents loved them. Thanks!
That is awesome! I will try to get a video of a Maker Coin for your school. They are quick prints and great rewards or giveaways.

Super happy to help.
The video was super helpful thank you! I was wondering if it would work with gray fillament.
I was going crazy trying to extrude manually and make a litophane file on my own... then I found your video. THANK YOU!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for your time putting this video together and showing us your settings. I can't wait to try this out! Keep up the great work :)

This is so cool and I can’t wait to try it. What other thing aside from night lights can you make?
Thanks for making this video it’s perfect. 🎉

Awesome explanation for how to, was looking for something similar, but this might work the treat. :) :)
Glad it was helpful!
What an excellent video, thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m truly a novice but you are so thorough I’m going to try it. Looks like fun.
These are definitely my favorite thing to print.
great tutorial. Going to start this week!
Glad to get you started on Lithos... they are one of my fav prints.
This video was extremely helpful and well done, thank you!
Great tutorial, I am going to give it a try. Can you export your print settings and post here?
How do I configure the image size, for example, if I want to print 10cm wide by 15cm high? Where do I adjust the image size? Thank you for your help!!
Is it possible for you to give the instructions on setting in Prusa Slicer?
Thank you I would love to try it!
This is a really good tutorial! Thanks!

Thanks for your video .. can you make a new one using PRUSA SLICER for Lithophanes
Awesome content! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. Cheers mate!

do you have an up to date cura set up for this as the new version is out
I do not. I will try and work on one soon.
You can also use this conversion to create a 3d model of a landscape from a height map, though you might need to adjust the color scale
Very cool idea. Love to see your work!
Hey was wondering what light source are you using behind the lithophane?
Did anyone ever get an answer to this ?

Is there any way to download your settings. Sure would make it easer for this 79 year old man.
Awesome! Thanks for this tutorials

Hi I used your settings asking for an opinion on the presence of many horizontal lines thenks
Send me a photo, ill take a look. Just go to my facebook… tr3nD maker and message me.

What are you using for base and what for a light for this project. A little plug in LED?
First video from you. Gladly subscribed. I just purchased a CNC machine and a 3d Printer. So I'm learning both right now.
That is awesome... The first few months can be frustrating... don’t get discouraged. It gets easier with practice.
what is the best color to use or does only white work?

How do you attach this to a night light? What type of night light?

Just getting into this. What type of 3D printer do i need?
Ender 3 series are all fantastic and have a huge fan base to help if needed.
Can you download you settings file from anywhere to create and import the settings direct
going to try to do this for my boyfriend and i’s one year anniversary :) wish me luck!
How did it come out? Thanks for watching.
Do you have a night light stl you can share?
Hi, very nice video,
I have a question, is it good if i print multiple litophane at the same time?
Sure, you can print many at one time… Although, I always print singles.
Is this better if I print in white?
Can we change the width size like we changed Height ?
Yes. Crop photo in photo editor and then use website to convert photo to 3D image.
Can the same settings be used for the 3D lightbox?
Yes.
It's a special PLA? Or just a simple one?
