I'm a Somali and my parents didn't do this to me as a child and when I was a kid everyone used to ask me about it and whenever I said no they would be like "it's coming for you then" and I used to get scared so I talked to my mom about it and she said she won't do it and that she's against it

I’m a survivor of fgm. I had type II. It happened when I was 4 and now 14 years later, I still get panick attacks when I think about it and I still have this fear of it al happening again. I’m healing right now. It’s hard to say the least. The feeling of: “Why do they hate me so much to do this to me?”.

Most of the mothers and grandmothers who do this to their daughters don't realize themself that what they expirienced is wrong. I even think that they tell themself it is the right thing tp do so they don't have to deal with their traumas. It isn't normal to think being hurt is right, in fact it is totally abnormal to want to be hurt. So those who do FGM need to realize that it is NOT ok and they have to stop!

I taught in an Islamic country. At the start of the year the youngest girls, around 11, weren't wearing a hijab. Then we had a holiday and when we came back all the girls were now wearing a hijab. We asked some older girls why the young girls were suddenly all wearing a hijab and they replied 'because they've been done' - meaning they've been mutilated. I felt absolutely sick to my stomach. It's a utterly despicable practice that has no place in the 21st century.

I learned about this in my class and it made me sick. One of the types of FGM is completely sewing up the entire vaginal opening with the intentions that the woman's future husband will tear open the scar tissue as a way to initiate their marriage.

I am totally against genital mutilation whether the gender be male or female. In fact the same arguments that are used against FGM as far as having NO medical benefit and often used as a “rite of passage” and to control one’s sexuality can be used for Male Circumcision (Mutilation) as well.

Actually, male circumcision has reported to have health benefits and doesn't affect the man's ability to perform sexually. However, it is true that this is done without the person's consent, typically during infancy, so men should be given the ability to choose when they are older.

It's actually a lot better to get it done earlier rather than later in life that's exactly what happened to my ex when his parents decided to not get him circumcised and he had to forcefully get circumcised when he was 12 due to complications... And he has an uneven circumcision now because of it.

Not to take away that it is wrong in every way this is Done, but often when this problem is talked about the numbers gets inflated by the huge variation of preciduers that goes under the umbrella of FGM and it is often talked about as all of it is typ 1, 2 or 3 and not mentioned allot of the non permanent preciduers that goes into the type 4 category.
Mening that allot of the girls that are included have been multilated in a far less way than MGM (or circumsition as it is often called) a practise that is not just legal but often pushed by the medical system in america.

Looking further into this issue, it doesn't seem that Islam actually mandates FGM. There was a lawsuit in Egypt about it in 1997 because Islamic fanatics said it was against their religion.
In 1997, the court decided that the minister's decree could not be considered unconstitutional saying:
“Since circumcision is a surgical procedure for which Islamic law does not provide a rule making it obligatory, it should basically not be carried out except with the aim of medical treatment."

The sad thing is, everyone condemns female genital mutilation, but encourages male genital mutilation. Some women will even mock a guy for not having his genitals mutilated (circumcised) and it perfectly normal. We can not have two different standards. It wrong to mutilate girls, but it's okay if boys are mutilated.

Boys are typically circumcised during infancy, so they can't even remember it. It also doesn't cause then any discomfort in adulthood and has reported to have some health benefits. If it's not done during infancy, then they can choose if they want to when they're an adult

A woman had surgery for a large cyst after FGM. Doctors found that the cyst was actualy her period blood
that was not able to leave her body and was accumulatin over years, decomposing inside of her.
I want to make a change,because this is not what most of the people pay attention to and is dangerous I been through this and it changed myself I’m still trying to love myself but I don’t want any other girls to go through this
I'm from Egypt, and this horrible practice was very popular a few years ago, but now it has been criminalised, and people who do it go to jail.
In the stated countries it is illegal but not prosecuted because boys are taught to prefer girls who are cut. They are taught taht girls who are cut will make better wives. Choosing a cut girl will elevate the family's status in the community. So, girls who won't be cut are shunned.

Male circumcision isn't supposed to be as horrible as this sounds..in fact it does have some health benefits.. Though it's risky too.. But again.. It's not throwing acid on your genitals..I can't bring myself to Even imagine what it must feel like
I'm a male and I got circumcised I've never had a problem with it but I am 100% agnist women having there clitrious cut off. Its plan wrong.

The problem with trying to educate doctors is that they are often times the ones performing the act
All for money. Same with the local midwives or local circumcise lady. They all try to feed their children.
It is almost never done by doctors unless you talk about mutilation of boys on girls it is s female relative that both do and inforce it
