There might never be a better example of HORRENDOUS power scaling than MCU Dr. Strange. Can hold off Thanos and defeat an interdimensional force of limitless evil and power alone, but gets hit by a small monster's tail and folds like a chair.
I personally believe Wario is the most powerful fictional character of all time. There are not very many characters who display the ability to turn off their mortality on the grounds that they just don't feel like dying. Furthermore, if money is power, then Wario has all of it.
@@Coffy-chan Ah but Wario isn't angry. He distinctly does not give enough of a shit to die. He has one singular priority and it is money. If you boiled everything he's ever done down, it all comes back to making money in some form.

good to see someone else realizes how ridiculous and inconsistent most super hero media's power levels are. while it doesn't always result in the death of the story or someone's ability to enjoy it, it will definitely smear shit on the nostalgia you might've had for that movie upon rewatching it and actually understanding how poorly put together the conflict was because the writer's couldn’t help themselves but make characters either not use their conflict ending resources and abilities or ass pull abilities out of nowhere for certain characters so the plot could go in the direction they wanted. also dante from dmc slaps uncle grandpa, cope.

It was Cap's movie so they made him win no matter what. The og Mark 3 could stand hits from tank/anti-air shells. And here his suit gets broken by Cap's strength. Cap hits harder than a tank/anti-air shell? Sure lol. Or people will say Tony's suits started getting weaker from Iron man 3, but that was because of ptsd, and I thought he got over it after that movie.
The answer to how much a consistent plot matters is another question: How good are you at writing something that is so entertaining most of your audience isn't going to notice the inconsistencies? Sometimes a work of fiction sucks me in so much I don't even notice, other times I'll notice the plot contrivances the first time through. It took me years to realize that the T-rex pen in the original Jurassic Park transformed from level fern filled ground to a sheer cliff drop between scenes, it took me one viewing to realize that there was no way in hell enough dinosaurs escaped from the auction in Jurassic World 2 to form a stable breeding population (let alone spread a plague of dinosaurs across the whole damned world in the 4 years between it and Jurassic World 3) and that the movies treating weaponized dinosaurs as being superior to conventional military technology was stupid.

I saw a video where Stan Lee mentioned how he would get letters from fans when he was writing for Marvel, and a lot of fans would ask questions about who would win in a fight. And he would say, whoever the writer wants to win.

I think Doom 2016 hit that sweet spot of making him really fucking cool without going overboard. It felt kinda like a cheesey action movie where the protag is a badass but he still gets messed up in fights. Eternal made him super lame by just turning him into a Gary Stu.
0:11 Rigby punching Benson makes a lot of sense here since by this point in the series he's gotten a lot better both mentally and physically. In season 3, he was actually strong enough to hit Mordecai in the face. And by season 6, Rigby was able to harm him again but this time on his arm. And by Season 7, Rigby passed a fitness test in order to create a video game where his results were "off-the-charts" in a good way. Plus Rigby did caught Benson off guard in that scene to which afterwards Mordecai was struggling to keep Rigby in place. I know you didn't really talk about him nor the show for that matter, but I feel like wanting to point this out specifically since I absolutely love Rigby and Regular Show.
Yeah this is something I was thinking about the other day. Each infinity stone could realistically wipe out the avengers. And thats by mcu rules. Soul stone: It literally has the power to take someone's life instantly Power stone: Enough power to wipe out a planet instantly. Could probably kill any avenger in one hit. Time stone: Not only can you freeze time and kill them. You can control the age of anything like doctor strange did to that apple. Just freeze time and time stone everyone out of existence. Space stone: Thanos uses it manipulate objects. He basically just gmods hulkbuster and puts him inside the wall. Reality stone: You can control reality Mind stone: This is is a powerful weapon buit honestly not as powerful as the other ones. But yeah.
In the comics they only work in the same universe they were created in, if that's the case in the MCU, then the stones cap at universal. Pluss the TV guys had several stones in a drawer.
@@RSG200my guess is that the infinity stones were limited by thanos imagination. A better example of the full power of the infinity stones is infinity ultron from what if.
I wish there were more people who like discussing about the canonical capabilities of characters for the sake of it being an interesting topic to analyze, instead of for the sake of pride. Although fiction can be inconsistent, it's all interpretable, and this topic leads to interesting discussions, which is pleasant when engaging with the right people.
Ok , i'll be honest : i think if you take it as an opportunity to do phisics exercises it can be intresting , like exercising your ability to guesstimate things can be fun and useful in the same way guys do phisical exercise ... However the discussions around those topics and who would win , Are easily the most toxic ones i have ever seen ... And the whole philosophy is one of "being stronger is more important than anything else a caracter could be" Wich boiled bown to it's bare components is dumb . Like if you stay there just to get deeply pissed at numbers you got from phisics homeworks then yes you've found the smartest way to ruin your day , congratulation ... Also i generally have this idea about how stories are devided : 1) you get object driven stories : sherlock holmes , death notes , breaking bad , Stories in wich cause and effect are the soul of the entire thing , and so inconsistencies aren't tolerated : if in one scene walter white gets cuffed and in the next escapes by flexing his biceps , i will fully lose the intrest , the whole point is "how will walter get out of there ?" and if it's dumb then i lose intrest in full ... 2) theme driven stories : infinity war , flcl , one piece ecc. Ecc. These stories are about the emotions you're supposed to feel and what message you're supposed to get away with : does it matter that kuro of the 1k plans loses in the dumbest way possible afther trying the dumbest plan possible ? Not really , the point is that his lie is belived cause he looks respectable , while usopp isn't belived while telling the truth because he likes saying tall tales , The respectable disonest man vs the unrespectable honest man is the point , not wheter luffy can react to an hypersmart and superfast guy with knife hands ... That is aestetics basically ... Spectacle ... Naturally these exist on a spectrum : Clever riddles fill your mind , And deep themes change your life ... Both will keep your reader coming for more

my favorite thing is watching fans using head cannon to try to explain bad writing... I'm guilty too but we shouldn't have to use our own imagination to suspend disbelief 😅
I don't think that's really bad thing to do. While I will never put myself into a power scaling debate because the whole thing is stupid, using head cannon is great way to enjoy more things in life. It's not about actually believing your head cannon but using it as a tool to experience the good things that you like about the work in question. For example, if i am presented with a comic saying: "spiderman then dogged Electro's lighting bolts and the kick him in the face". I'm not gonna think, "oh!!! spiderman reacts to light speed and can move at lightspeed too!!!". My head cannon instead will be, "spiderman just saw Electro's hand about to shoot the lighting bolt and he moved away quickly (slightly above average speed)". Then, when in another comic or movie I'm presented with, " Electro's lightbolts track any living thing and the only way to dodge them is to move at light speed". I will simply ignore that part of the story like it never happen. Why? because of the simple reason I like electro and spiderman fighting against each other, but I also like spiderman fighting against kingpin, if I were to believe both fights can have stakes and can happen in the same universe, then I rather gaslight myself instead of accepting stupid writting. It's an internal head cannon, akin to supending disbelief but a little bit stronger. Still, there are sometimes were is found it pretty impossible to support some works of fictions when the writing is so incredibly incompetent, but for the most part, It did help me appreciate a lot more works than I would had before.
Indeed, without internal logic a movie turns into a dream-like sequence of pictures. It sucks out tension and engagement and no amout of high-budget special effects will change that.
In the comics it's explained that that the reality stone stone is more general purpose and less easy to use without the others, especially in those aspects of reality the others are best at manipulating. The movies don't really go into that level of detail though, so they don't get a pass.
@@VunderGuy So the amount details you can manipulate with that stone is based on how many stones you have? I didn't read the comics but I'm interested in how the stones are supposed to work. Do the stones have something like a boost to the strength that is based on the number of stones, or do they have 2 powers (one power is the ability of the stone, the second power is like magic that boosts other stones)
Remember people: Powerscaling characters is not the same as character studies. They’re both cool, but they are totally separate things. Also, I agree that the TikTok edits are really dumb, except for the ones that are intentionally jokes, since they don’t have actual analysis or proper feats shown. Edit: changed to feats
I like when they tone it down to human-superhuman range and get tactical. Like Kengan Ashura. There’s this one fight between Cosmo and the vigilante cop where it started close to relative…until mindsets started changing and Cosmo found himself fighting for his life against a man who lost himself to the bloodlust
Any power level can make for much better fights when that power level isn't the only thing that decides the course of it. Tactics, mentality, and technical skill can weigh just as heavily as who throws the harder punch or any special powers the participants possess. That isn't an excuse to ignore the power of the characters of course. Trying to create a compelling strategic interplay with inconsistent characters would be like building on a foundation of quicksand. It's an addition, an extra dimension that can make the fight more interesting
Random example but just because Goku is a stronger character than Guts doesn’t mean he’s a better character… A LOT of power scalers just can’t grasp the difference between power and character. I hate it. When goku yells, his hair turns a different colour and he shoots a beam at “unnamed villain no.625”, I don’t FEEL anything. Any anime or show that has power levels as a big part of it is bound to be either absolute dogshite or have a fandom more toxic than a nuclear reactor. Instant subscription
I personally like powerscaling as a hobby, i don't really care about the pitting characters against each other aspect, i just like seeing where a characters power ends up at
I like the idea and the debate itself can be really fun. It's a good way to be introduced to new media through other people and talk about your favorite series, if you're in the right place. RUclips, Tiktok, and the vast majority of Reddit and Discord are not the right place.
2:22 the master chief vs doomguy death battle one was genuinely stupid because they just had doomguy slowly walk forward but your overall point i agree with
This is my biggest pet peeve with writing especially in comic movies. I'm of the opinion that if you can't write a character without cucking their abilities in a unintersting way then leave them alone.
This is one of the realest guys on RUclips, anybody who starts seething and crying like a vet having ptsd flashbacks over a video pointing out known facts are dumb ASF, like the reason why people have stopped caring about or liking superhero movies is because the power scaling and plot is always manipulated in such an unnatural and unrealistic way that nobody actually takes things seriously, because they'll just base the story off whatever is convenient and not explain things like Thor out of nowhere throwing storm breaker through the power of all the infinity stones when the whole movie thanos was handling all the heroes with ease just because it was convenient for the story writers, pretty much making it look like Thanos was more powerful with less infinity stones, probably a hot take, but I could keep going forever explaining everything but this man is saying is based in reality and i think anyone having a meltdown over a different opinion is mentally deficient especially if the opposite opinion is based on a fictional subject.
Ok so Black Panther has some inconsistencies but there is nothing wrong with Killmonger beating T'Challa. They were both without any powers and they both had extreme hand-to-hand combat training. There is nothing in the movie that alludes to the fact that Wakanda's hand-to-hand combat training is miles better than other the rest of the world, contrary to their tech which is shown to be a lot more advanced. We can even see in Civil War that while T'Challa is a very good fighter, he is far from unbeatable. Meanwhile, it is stated that Killmonger has already fought in multiple wars and killed many dozens if not hundreds of people and he was an elite soldier so his training is definetely around the top. So I would say they are around even in that first fight and either one could realistically win. This isn't to say anything about their combat techniques, maybe there Killmonger is indeed worse and should have lost, I don't know much about hand-to-hand combat to say one or the other. But that is a detailed combat analysis, not a lore analysis, and you talked like it was the later, so I don't think you were refering to that.
Powerscaling is fun though, yeah? Some people are too invested in their faves but you can have a lot of fun asking who would win with some friends, yknow? The only reason its fun is because you *don't* know who wins. If there was a 'correct' answer, what would be the point of discussing it? Some people get it messed up and believe that somehow they have the 'correct' answer of who would win when in reality that answer simply does not exist.
I think it ultimately comes down to suspension of disbelief. If a story is enjoyable enough that you care about the characters and less about their abilities, when their abilities are treated more or less powerfully than has been established, you may not notice or care because you care about the characters. If it doesn't bug you until a while after the story, it probably worked for the story. If inconsistent power levels bug you in the midst of the story, it's probably more of a story issue, in that the audience hasn't become invested in the characters.
I really don’t believe that, if I’m invested in the characters but they start doing things that are impossible in canon or start beating characters they have no reasoning beating, I kinda think I stop getting invested because the writer will just do anything to make their plot work.

Man, didn't expect the feeling of catharsis I'd get from hearing someone make fun of that one very particular group of power-scaler manchildren. Y'all know the ones, but I never heard anyone call them out specifically before. A good reality check.
It’s to be expected for most communities to have *those* certain types of people. While I don’t claim to know the exact reason, I can guess that the majority of them seek the validation or justification for their preferences in media by putting other people’s down. When Little Timmy says “Goku beats x and y”, it’s less so because Timmy actually thinks that Goku is somehow the strongest thing in existence and would solo real life or whatever, more so Goku being his favorite character and if his favorite character beats the other kid’s favorite character then that somehow means his taste and by extension himself is superior. It’s one of the stranger ways to feed your ego. Even if one of them wins an argument somehow, they’ll end up getting more smug about themselves than just supposedly winning the argument. Power scaling is fun, Vs Battles are also fun. Both stops being fun when people start to fight over them.
Consistency, consistency, consistency. You could write the most fantastical story but if the characters live in this universe and remain *consistent* with the rules you establish the audience will do the rest themselves. I once took two very inhuman things, a particle of light and a forest interacting with each other and figuring each other out in their role in the natural world. If you remain consistent, the audience can suspend whatever disbelief is needed. However, a writer needs trust in themselves and their audience to make this a smooth experience. Cause it’s easy to pick apart, Marvel doesn’t trust their audience to feel *anything* so your hand is held through the story which isn’t necessarily bad but are we writing home about Captain Marvel for example?
@@sapateirovalentin348 thank you! I’ve been studying lots of English literature, modern and Classic, and I’m happy to see my ideas are unique. Basically it would consist of this particle of light traveling to trees, the stones and plants to ask them what they are and what their purpose is while the light figures it’s own role and purpose. The particle comes across an ancient river that flows strong and rapid. It contains a wisdom from being there for billions of years and the two spend a long time sharing stories.
As a fucking loser nerd who likes fights I've had to grow up learning the harsh truth that writers don't care nearly as much about accurate power scaling as I do. They focus on the plot, characters and story over "Who'd objectively win" because powerscaling doesn't make a story necessarily better or worse... I would literally have to create a second suspension of disbelief by telling myself "It's for a good plot, ill let it slide" Except when IT FUCKING DOES MATTER. Because inconsistent powerscaling can break immersion so bad I swear, like Thanos being able to trade, dodge and hit Hulk; KNOCKING HIM OUT in less than 20 seconds is a clear ceiling that MOST of the cast shouldn't ever been able to reach without powers, yet Nebula and Drax are able to smack Thanos and actually make him flinch. They nerf Vison by explaining the weapon he was stabbed with was specifically designed to weaken him but it still makes no sense why Wanda was using red fart clouds to fight those goons when LITERALLY IN THE SAME MOVIE she, with as much effort as moving a couch; lifts over 7 buildings worth of metal to save Black Widow and one movie later almost soloing Thanos and the entire ground around him. The thing is literally any fictional fight could have either of them being the winner, as the writers are the ones that decide whos stronger in the moment. They could've easily explained that Wanda was "out of practice" or "scared" maybe showing a scene where shes watching Vision in agony and from being in hiding is shaking at the though of fighting. Or that Thanos is getting worn down enough where weaker characters actually being able to hurt Thanos makes sense, or hell maybe the weaker characters hit some fresh wounds the stronger characters made. There are infinitely different circumstances you can put your characters in that make them able to win a fight but "Yeah they're strong enough and just better in this fight exclusively" is a lazy hand wave. Power scaling matters. If the plot isn't good enough to hold it up or justify it then you gotta get creative enough to justify it.
Exactly. Power scaling is part of consistency, no one's gonna just hand wave some character acting out of character for the plot, they'll call it bad writing but someone caring to a similar extent about there being rythmn or reason to the capability of a character is being a man child.
I ignore the who would win in a fight, what I care about is which character would win in non combat scenarios and other strange things. Like Batman vs Captain America, who would win in an air hockey game.
I like doom guy for the simple fact that he’s not meant to be grounded in anything, every doom game is literally a power fantasy of ultra violence and I love it
In classic doom the odds are very much against you. A lone marine vs an army of demons. In New doom they evened the odds. A super weapon vs an army of demons
the example comments that you used in 2.16-2.17 are actually completely fine. they're expressing their opinion in a calm manner, and are making rational arguments
on a side note: i totally that making doomguy a god is stipid. and what's even more stupid is that there are people who actually think that makes the story better
@@bred269 i don't mind him being supernatural to a degree (in fact, it would make more sense than "just a man"), but to make him this god who could ened the entire game in 2 seconds, but chooses not to so that he can "make the demons suffer more", is so fucking bad
If it were any other character, I’d be fine. But Doomguy’s whole appeal was the simplicity of him just being a strong dude who was angry enough to fight back Hell. Making him some Gary Stu omnipotent god of destruction removes his actual appeal and just makes him into a contrived plot device. It really doesn’t help that the game says he can do all this ridiculous stuff but barely ever shows it.
@@MrCritic77 i don't know if it "ruined" him or not, since i haven't played the original doom games, but yeah, the stuff the game says he can do is idiotic, even in doom 2016. like, the praetor suit is nigh indestructible? then why do i die to 3 fireballs?
What I find amusing is that people think this is a new thing with just superheroes. There were entire websites back at the dawn of the internet dedicated to Star Trek vs Star Wars vs Other Fictional Universes. They were really popular, too. Xenomorphs vs a Borg Cube was actually an amusing one, most were what you'd expect.
Series with Overpowered mc are more consistent with power level because you know the mc is the ceiling, everyone else is below him, anyone who fights him will lose, the writer's only Job is to make it not boring which they fail.
Powerscaling might be cringey and dont really have much meaning but tbh its fun, i dont powerscale because "oh man superman definitely negs saitama no problamo man🤓" i do it because its satisfying, measuring another one's strength mentally, physical etc. i find it pretty cool looking at someone cool fighting someone else cool, im not trying to disrespect nor throw away some other character i do it because i wanna see my favorite heroes go up against each other because why not tbh. Once again not shitting on the creators and i get what your saying im just puttin my opinion in.
I see you. I understand what you're saying. But spongebob still claps. Also, I kind of miss the times when you could actually talk about 'Devil May Cry' or 'God of War' on the internet without someone instantly bringing up "BUT IN THE LORE".
Ungalo from JJBA is the most OP god tier character tbh. He can summon anything from fiction, thanks to his stand Bohemian Rhapsody. Want Uncle Grandpa? Bam he's here, Want Sonichu? Bam he's here literally anything from fiction even your crayon drawn fanfic can be summoned.
Uncle Grandpa would 100% beat Saitama in a fight, not because of any specific power he has but because Saitama can only lose if it's funny. However, no matter how powerful Uncle Grandpa may be, he would almost certainly lose to capitalism.
The reader shouldn't know what the writer is doing, at least not so simply, have the reader guess for awhile, and if there is an answer and not just for interpretation, give it later, show it later. They also shouldn't be able to tell if certain things are happening because of 'plot', if they can, then you have a mid movie
I think w a lot of powerscalers, they’re insecure about their intelligence and that’s why they debate so hard, it’s like to prove something to themselves
@@kermitgotthesickkicks4265 you know what’s funny, it’s not even a debate it’s an argument like you said. endgame ruined all marvel for me time travel is the worst thing you can doo to any movie. the only way time travel works is if there are strict rules like back to the future and you cant just asspull things without your timeline changing
I feel like both infinity war and endgame rushed in a lot of concepts into the mcu without fleshing them out. Like that scene in endgame where they find thanos on some planet and they're just gonna go to that planet. When rocket asks if anyone hasn't been to space and they all raise their hands. Like thats kind of ridiculous when you think about it. I think instead of messing around with ultron and civil war they should've started naturally progressing towards the infinity gauntlet storyline. Not just do it randomly out of nowhere.
I think people take power levels too seriously but at the same time yeah inconsistency pisses me off. I still don't agree with Iron Man losing to Captain America and Bucky because they did nothing to justify how they would pull that off, the very first non-prototype Iron Man suit tanks being hit...by a tank shell. And then even at low power catches a car that was thrown at him. Basically the only thing the movie does to try explain how Iron Man loses is that his computer says "Captain America outclasses you bro" which is never shown throughout any of the movies. When they're fighting Ultron Iron Man is able to either equal or defeat him whereas Captain America can only climb around and run away from him like a monkey, which is impressive don't get me wrong and his shield is a great defence against many of Iron Man's attacks but he has so many options for defeating them that the fight scene is just kinda silly. And the worst thing about it is that they could have just weakened Iron Man before hand, maybe during the previous fight most of his energy gets used up so he has to fight them with a weakened suit instead of like Mark 40 or whatever he got to. He's not even using the shitty one from 3 that falls apart all the time. Heck I didn't even mention that in Avengers he almost fights evenly with Thor who I can sure as shit guarantee would never lose to Captain America in a straight up fight. So I don't really care what the writers decide happens when they fail so bad at being consistent within the universe.
The problem with power levels honestly comes from two sources, as I see it. The need to churn out more content, with constant high stakes, and the increasing franchise-ization and crossovers. Using the same characters forces you to rubberband all their power levels together or selectively pick a winner based on what you want the story to do even if it doesn't make sense. And with continuing stories you constantly get faced with a need to introduce more threats of greater escalation. These ideas are as old as pop culture, even ancient mythologies have BOTH of these issues from time to time. This is probably why cape stuff gets so ridiculous, because it's acting off of like an entire century's worth of material with constant crossovers and escalations. Letting casts function independently and having their own scale of strength and just bringing their stories to a close when the main plot line has ended and the author can't think of anything left for the cast to do are the solutions.
i don't even think you need to have super high power levels in order to keep making things more and more high-stakes, it's just that, from the beginning, a lot of franchises predicate their main struggles around the hero defeating some entity or something like that by getting new abilities or imrpoving, which can be satisfying, but simply does not have the same longevity as a character based drama where things are relatable and having new conflicts are easier to write. of course you see that less often in action franchises because that type of writing takes a lot of skill and effort to weave it in with the action.
Okay, so what if, and hear me out: you don't see the normal people that like power scaling because a normal person will not write a paragraph on why darkside stomps condiment king. If we where to judge every community by it's loudest and worst part, literally no community would be safe. None at all
This guy gets it, "powerscaler" is such a vague and undefined term you could consider anyone who has ever expirienced fiction a powerscaler, if they thought and "measured" the characters power even a little bit, I guess they are a tiktok vs creator debatelords now who only care about character power. I like and occasionally do a bit of powerscaling and even debate but i try my best to be nice and not take it to the personal, but the guy who made the video and many antipowerscalers will never acknowledge powerscalers like me, its only the extreme wrost examples, you can easily paint any large group of people as horrible idiots if you cherry pick the wrost ones.
i agree, most the problems with black panther come from the 3rd act, keeping me from liking it a lot, but i thought tchalla losing to killmonger made complete sense. killmonger is coming at him with killing intent, tchalla is burdened by just learning what his father did, and on top of that, he's obviously extremely against killing his own cousin. tchalla did essentially win at one point too--he couldve dealt a fatal blow and told him to yield.
i agree, killmonger winning was not the problem, he explained his whole training arc before they fought. he can handle t'challa if he's holding back, which he was
i think the scene is reasonable just because they weren't powered up and people lose fights. some people act like it's impossible but in an armed fight where you're non-superhumans, anyone can win. which is why duels in westerns and classic samurai movies can be so tense even when you know there's a power imbalance, depending on the plot the stronger character might lose and it's not inexplicable.
To be fair the fight with thanos, he was overpowered and they did make the fight fast enough to intentionally prevent opportunities from thanos pressing the i win button: It was a good way to write an op villain: Strange counter hax him and no one else lets go of his glove
Its ok its all cool i don't think it matters but this vid mad funny 3:20 also i hate that "the writers decide who wins" they use they're brain and think about who really might win its not just "oH Cap beAt tHanoS cUz aMerIca" they make it make sense still this is cinema sins level commentary😂
Yes, but tchalla obviously has to have gone through some very rigorous training before taking that herb and becoming BP. So even a powered down tchalla should have significantly better knowledge about his cultures melee combat.
I am really surprised you didn't include Devil May Cry, don't blame me, Bury the Light is my favorite song, but seriously, I get very wtf'd in how many times Dante loses but then gets powered to oblivion, and (sometimes) loses again on another game, for DMC's Powerscaling making Dante a damn omnipotent figure to anh other universe he comes up against (this also includes Vergil, of course.)
Dmc is very interesting for example dante gets many new weapons with the pass of time so some enemies will be easier in other games becouse of the arsenal used ( dsd is broken ) yamato has too many uses. Sometimes dante is just tired like in the cutscene ,, fight " with vergil in dmc 5, the one right after fighting urisen 3. Dante defeated urisen but couldn't defeate vergil right after.
Power is not compelling without it's constraints. Power scaling is analyzing the amount of power, and the amount of constraints, to see if a match up makese sense.

The doomguy vs masterchief one is understandable because it was made years before the reboot which made him into the unstoppable force we know and love. Old doomguy was no slouch but he's certainly on mastercheifs level.

I hate inconsistent power levels and the MCU is indeed a hideous example of just how bad it can get... However, Civil War is not emblematic of that problem at all. In fact, it's probably the single best film in the MCU in that regard by a large margin. Likewise, the reality stone example is a very valid one, but the ambush on Vision? Seriously? Of course two (alien) supersoldiers can take on Wanda and Vision if they catch them by surprise, immediately disable Vision's strongest ability, and relentlessly attack a desperate Wanda - how is that poor powerscaling? Also, how is Cap, Falcon, and Widow being able to handle a couple supersoldiers poor powerscaling either? You made good points but it helps to not undermine them with unfitting examples among a collection of very apt ones. Anyway, I look forward to more of your content in future!
Vision is as strong as any of the Avengers, possibly all of them. Age of Ultron outright said so. Him losing to Corvus Glaive is fine. But then Corvus getting whooped by Black Widow mere minutes after, and losing to Okoye in Endgame, is not fine. Stop defending it.
@@TheStraightestWhitest Widow coming in with his energy weapon, slashing his thigh, and then impaling him is exactly how she would whoop a character like Corvus and good powerscaling.

Soul stone: It literally has the power to take someone's life instantly
Power stone: Enough power to wipe out a planet instantly.
Reality stone: You can control reality

I wish there were more people who like discussing about the canonical capabilities of characters for the sake of it being an interesting topic to analyze, instead of for the sake of pride. Although fiction can be inconsistent, it's all interpretable, and this topic leads to interesting discussions, which is pleasant when engaging with the right people.
Ok , i'll be honest : i think if you take it as an opportunity to do phisics exercises it can be intresting , like exercising your ability to guesstimate things can be fun and useful in the same way guys do phisical exercise ...
However the discussions around those topics and who would win ,
Are easily the most toxic ones i have ever seen ...
And the whole philosophy is one of "being stronger is more important than anything else a caracter could be"
Wich boiled bown to it's bare components is dumb .
Like if you stay there just to get deeply pissed at numbers you got from phisics homeworks then yes you've found the smartest way to ruin your day , congratulation ...
Also i generally have this idea about how stories are devided :
1) you get object driven stories : sherlock holmes , death notes , breaking bad ,
Stories in wich cause and effect are the soul of the entire thing , and so inconsistencies aren't tolerated : if in one scene walter white gets cuffed and in the next escapes by flexing his biceps , i will fully lose the intrest , the whole point is "how will walter get out of there ?" and if it's dumb then i lose intrest in full ...
Not really , the point is that his lie is belived cause he looks respectable , while usopp isn't belived while telling the truth because he likes saying tall tales ,
The respectable disonest man vs the unrespectable honest man is the point , not wheter luffy can react to an hypersmart and superfast guy with knife hands ...
That is aestetics basically ...
Spectacle ...
Naturally these exist on a spectrum :
Clever riddles fill your mind ,
And deep themes change your life ...
Both will keep your reader coming for more

In the comics it's explained that that the reality stone stone is more general purpose and less easy to use without the others, especially in those aspects of reality the others are best at manipulating. The movies don't really go into that level of detail though, so they don't get a pass.

The only reason its fun is because you *don't* know who wins. If there was a 'correct' answer, what would be the point of discussing it? Some people get it messed up and believe that somehow they have the 'correct' answer of who would win when in reality that answer simply does not exist.
yeah ok maybe this Uncle Grandpa guy is pretty strong but just give Batman more prep time
Goku can't beat Mordecai because he knows the Death Block. 😎

@@anhthai7005 Couldn't have said it better myself.
I have absolutely no idea what kind of story one can write about a light particle and a forest,i am kind of curious now
@@sapateirovalentin348 thank you!

That moment where I'm writing a novel and already have ridiculous power scaling feats in mind for the characters, including the preteen girl.
Mentioning Uncle Grandpa made me remember that trickster characters are built to mess with power scaling.
As a fucking loser nerd who likes fights I've had to grow up learning the harsh truth that writers don't care nearly as much about accurate power scaling as I do. They focus on the plot, characters and story over "Who'd objectively win" because powerscaling doesn't make a story necessarily better or worse... I would literally have to create a second suspension of disbelief by telling myself "It's for a good plot, ill let it slide"
Except when IT FUCKING DOES MATTER.

The reader shouldn't know what the writer is doing, at least not so simply, have the reader guess for awhile, and if there is an answer and not just for interpretation, give it later, show it later.
They also shouldn't be able to tell if certain things are happening because of 'plot', if they can, then you have a mid movie
I think w a lot of powerscalers, they’re insecure about their intelligence and that’s why they debate so hard, it’s like to prove something to themselves

time travel is the worst thing you can doo to any movie. the only way time travel works is if there are strict rules like back to the future and you cant just asspull things without your timeline changing

There are levels of skill in power scaling there are the masters and the random people on TikTok which are the lowest level
i agree, most the problems with black panther come from the 3rd act, keeping me from liking it a lot, but i thought tchalla losing to killmonger made complete sense. killmonger is coming at him with killing intent, tchalla is burdened by just learning what his father did, and on top of that, he's obviously extremely against killing his own cousin. tchalla did essentially win at one point too--he couldve dealt a fatal blow and told him to yield.
i agree, killmonger winning was not the problem, he explained his whole training arc before they fought. he can handle t'challa if he's holding back, which he was
i think the scene is reasonable just because they weren't powered up and people lose fights. some people act like it's impossible but in an armed fight where you're non-superhumans, anyone can win. which is why duels in westerns and classic samurai movies can be so tense even when you know there's a power imbalance, depending on the plot the stronger character might lose and it's not inexplicable.
To be fair the fight with thanos, he was overpowered and they did make the fight fast enough to intentionally prevent opportunities from thanos pressing the i win button: It was a good way to write an op villain: Strange counter hax him and no one else lets go of his glove
