    I honestly thought they were going to complete Thanos's character arc in Endgame instead of reverting him back to a moustache twirling baddie. I think it would have been completely doable if Thanos used the timestone to visit futures to see if the universe "balanced" itself after his intervention, and since life always finds a way, he realizes his efforts are futile.

      I would have liked it to follow the sequel to the comics.
      Have it start similar with the avengers finally locating Thanos’ pimp planet due to the massive outburst of energy. Only when they get there they find thanos beat to shit missing his snapping arm, and rambling about some mad lad called the magus wanting to unmake reality.
      Then rather than a time travel maguffin hunt, you have a race across the galaxy where the avengers have to work alongside thanos, and a manipulative gold dude who looks suspiciously like magus to try and get all the other ingredients needed to stop his scheme.
      Then at the end you can have the inevitable betrayal where thanos tries to take the gauntlet as soon as magus is dead, Adam warlock comes up with the winning strategy, and the avengers snap everyone back

    I think the entire point of the “Thanos back in time” bit wasn’t actually about Thanos, but Gamora. They need Gamora for the third guardians movie, but they also needed to kill her for story in Infinity War. The writers couldn’t think of a way to bring her back without being corny, so they decided to do a time heist. At least that’s what I think.

    You forgot to mention that if Cap went back in time and stayed there, that should've branched a new timeline with the movie's own logic on time travel, right? How does the disappearance of past Thanos not change the present somehow, but then the current timeline is intact with the presence of a second captain America altering past events as well? This movie was filled with so many contrived inconsistencies, nostalgia bait, and forced humor, that the final battle was the only good part to me. Also, fast forward to present day and the movie makes less sense with the inclusion of the multiverse. And clearly, through the Dr. Strange movie, there were more options and ways to defeat thanos.

    What bugs me is how time travel in this movie operates by whatever rules are convenient rather than anything that makes sense. They make a point that you're not going back as much as you are bringing the past forward, thus why its okay to kill the past version of Nebula, and yet Captain America going back and then returning as an old man implies that he really did go back in time and stay there.
    Then you have how there is still a need to return the time stones to the exact times and places they were taken from, meaning that once again this is actual travel backwards with real responsibilities and consequences. But if that's the case then it really does make no sense how Nebula is fine killing her past self. Then there's how Loki escapes using the Tesseract. Where does he end up? logically, accounting for the actual time travel Steve and the need to return the stones implies he should be running amok causing time paradoxes, but obviously that doesn't happen.
    This movie has such a bad rule system for what is and isn't possible that it's just an insult to other movies which actually had thought put into how time travel works.

I originally went to Endgame in theater only because my good friend is an MCU fan and it was important to her, but I can also admit that I had a shred of curiosity about the resolving of story's conflict after seeing Infinity War.
      And dang. I sat throughout the whole thing and felt nothing but annoyance. Annoyance from all the cliches (I'm not saying here that cliches are always a bad thing), *constant* interruption of possibly good emotional scenes with comic reliefs out of place and, as many has said, convenient coincidences especially. Everything felt way too mary sue, the flow of the story relied fully on random factors, not on characters' actions. And that's just bad, creativity-lacking writing.

      @@intheclear3492 I know I'm not the op, but what I would've done is somehow make it so that the dead characters' souls were trapped in the soul stone. The currently alive characters would then track down Thanos, spending at least half of the movie doing so to bring the dead characters' souls back. This would essentially erase the need for time travel, and if we still need death in the movie, make it so that Iron Man sacrifices himself to bring the souls out of the soul stone. Oh, and for the soul stone to bring back the souls trapped inside of it, it needs the sacrifice of one or a few souls to be able to do so. And no matter what anyone can do, the sacrificed souls can't be brought back. Hence why I said Iron Man could do it. And to make it where the Infinity Gauntlet can't be used again, maybe either have Ant-Man shrink to a size that no one can see it, trap it in the Quantum Realm, or have it tossed and hidden somewhere across the universe. I'm not sure how they would fit a gigantic climactic final battle though, but that's my idea for a better way to bring back the dead characters instead of time travel.

    • @MasterCombatant
      @MasterCombatant Год назад +3

      For me, I would have had Thor leave Thanos alone instead of killing him. Also I think Thanos should’ve hid the infinity stones in different parts of the universe and make the stones indestructible so thanos can’t destroy them with a snap. Then bring in another villain (maybe bring back Ultron with a new and improved body and armor) this villain’s presence would be enough to convince Thanos to hide the stones because this villain wants the stones to wipe out all life.
      So now the avengers have an actual threat throughout the movie who is also trying to get the stones instead of 2/3 of the movie being filled with fan service. At the end when the heroes find the stones and get ready to bring everyone back, Thanos shows up at the end to make sure his plan stays in place. This may not be perfect but at least it cuts down on the plot holes and inconsistencies, then think of a way for Tony, Steve, Natasha, and Bruce, to die a heroic death on the battle field.
      (By the way the reason I vote for Ultron to return is for redemption after his disappointing outing in Age of Ultron, also it’s easier to say Ultron had one last body that never got destroyed in sokovia than to explain time travel, furthermore it was confirmed in “what if?” That Ultron had the potential to defeat Thanos and that he was intrigued by the infinity stones himself, and finally, because I think it would be weird to randomly throw in Galactus instead of Ultron. Just wait and build galactus up for phase 6)

    My main problem with Endgame was it felt like it was leading to something more. I liked the scene in the beginning when the Avengers killed Thanos on his homeworld because they did not look like heroes. They killed an unarmored unprepared man out of revenge, he wasn't doing anything and wasn't going to. It made me think "wow the Avengers are going to learn they can't solve all their problems by beating up bad guys" and made me think it was going to be a more complex movie about morality and solving problems with violence. Nope. In the end, they solved the problem with violence.

Adjusting the story so that Strange sees multiple opportunities that the team progressively miss until the window narrows at the end would have worked far better and raised the tension of the final conflict significantly.

    Time travel doesn't work with such big stories like Endgame, because, instead of limiting the world, it expands it, and that freedom makes it very hard to write a story that is compelling on more than just the most surface of all levels. It makes it very easy to contrive a plot though, and that is probably one of the reasons why they wrote the time travel story - so people could have their cake and eat it, too. So they could bathe in nostalgia and get new adventures with the same old characters - but at the cost of stakes, emotion and logic.
    There are numerous sins in Endgame, but the worst of them all, in my opinion, is that the writers killed Thanos in the beginning of the movie. All the personal conflict between him and the superheroes was completely gone after that. The writers even had to contrive a new motive for his younger self.
    I think one of the biggest signs that either the writers or the director had lost sight of what matters is the fact that the Professor Hulk transformation happened off-screen, when there was essential character development to be had for the Hulk after IW. That is an unforgivable sin of storytelling.
    Like so many others in Endgame.

    @batzxxl 2 года назад +35

    Biggest issue for me is that if they were so committed to fan service, there were a lot of other call backs and character narratives they could have paid off, but by using 2014 Thanos, they robbed us of Scarlet Witch, Nebula and Hulk getting their true redemption moments against the actual Thanos they wanted revenge on. In the comics, it's Nebula who uses the gauntlet to reverse the snap. In this movie, someone else could have done the reverse snap, and Nebula would have been the one to dust Thanos and his minions. That would have been such a badass moment and would have checked the box on their "strong female characters" quota much better than having a grouping of women characters coming together to "help" an insanely powerful character who wouldn't need any help getting past some generic goons.
    The movie could start the same way with Nebula and Tony on the ship, but Nebula's been heavily damaged from their battle with Thanos and the moon crashing on them so Tony uses some of his nano-tech to repair her and that's why he's down to only having his helmet. He records several messages, and eventually his final message for Pepper. You could then cut to Carol hanging out with the Skrulls she rescued in her last movie. They are talking about the snap and Skrulls that were dusted. Carol says she has to leave because she received an emergency signal from her pager and she believes it may have something to do with the snap. Before she leaves, the skrulls tell her that they stumbled across another signal from a ship in distress. She says she doesn't have time to look into it because she needs to get to earth. They tell her that she needs to hear the signal. She listens and hears Stark's voice talking about how they failed to stop Thanos, then she flies off. She rescues Tony and Nebula and brings them to earth.
    The rest of the stuff happens, but instead of killing Thanos 5 seconds in, have him be on the run and no one knows where he is. The next five years is spent dealing with the repercusions of the snap and Carol searching the galaxy to try to find a lead on Thanos, while Rocket is using his tech to do his own search. Then Scott shows up at their doorstep and meets with Nat and Cap. He tells them about his time travel theories and they go to Tony and he still refuses initially. I know they had to go the time travel route to give us a version of Loki for the new series. However, I'd rather Tony had figured out the navigation and they'd tried time travel but failed in each case. Cap couldn't get the septer from Hydra. Loki steals the tesseract. The Ancient One says no and that's that. Quill gets the jump on Rhodey and Nebula, and he flies off with the orb. Nat and Clint are unwilling to kill each other and the Red Skull says that self-sacrifice won't work (the person has to BE sacrificed). As for Tony and Cap, I'd take out that part where there were just extra PP's waiting at the army base. Tony and Cap would just already have an extra Pym Particle vial to travel back to the 70's and still get home, but they arrive after the tesseract has been moved to an undisclosed location and have to go back to the present. And young Thor stops Rocket from getting to Jane while present day Fat Thor is chatting with his mom. But before they leave empty-handed, Thor summons his hammer, (apolgizing to his younger self with something like, "I'm gonna need this.") and he and Rocket go back to the present. They could still have some of the same emotional arcs (Thor with his mom. Tony with his dad. Cap glimpsing Peggy), but failing to get any stones from the past and being out of Pym Particles would force them to deal with the real Thanos in the present and finding a way to get the original stones back. The only thing they get from the past is some emotional closure and Mjolnir.
    Back in the present, they get word from Carol that she knows where the stones are. Rhodey says that he's suprised she didn't try to get them herself. She says that Thanos has hidden the stones in different locations, guarded by different factions of his armies. The minute she went after one, Thanos would have been alerted and the rest of the stones would have been lost. They have to get all six stones by hitting all six locations at once in a coordinated attack, before Thanos can get wind of their plans. Carol says that in order to do that, she needed a "team", and that would be a callback to the earlier part of the movie where they told her that the avengers usually work as a team. The "heist" would be going to each location and retreiving the stones without getting caught. After splitting up into teams, they all manage to get the stones back. After losing his stone to Thor and Valkyrie, one of the generals sends Thanos a message that the stones have been stolen. The heroes perform the snap to bring everyone back, just as Thanos and his armies arrive on earth. Then the rest of the movie plays out with a few changes.
    The attack on the Avengers HQ happens, but instead of having Ant-Man rescue Hulk for the "Assemble" scene, we see Banner seemingly drown. After the portals open and the battle begins, everything happens as it did in the film, except there's no Hulk. But Banner's not dead. Imagine the chills when Thanos is about to finish someone off and he hears a roar from off-screen and he gets a worried look on his face because he remembers that roar, but something's different. Suddenly, Hulk bursts out of the rubble, but it's not Professor Hulk. It's WorldWar Hulk. He lets out another hellacious roar and causes everyone on the battlefield to pause. We see Hulk soaring through the air, and he lands on Thanos, giving him a savage beating unlike anything we've seen Hulk do previously. Then before he can finish Thanos, Hulk gets swarmed by a thousand minions and Thanos manages to scurry away, only to find himself face to face with a pissed off Wanda, eyes glowing red with anger. Thanos DOES recognize her and remembers how powerful she is and he shows a hint of fear. Wanda goes in with her powers like she did in the movie, almost tearing him apart, and just like in the movie, Thanos calls out "Rain fire!" Carol destroys the ship and Cap tells her "they could use an assist."
    At that point Tony talks to Strange, he asks if they are still on the right path to the "one way" because they tried going to the past and that didn't work, and Strange answers, "It wasn't supposed to work.". letting Tony know that they still have a chance to win, but Strange still can't tell him how they win. We can still have the "girl power" moment when the women come together, but instead of them "helping" Carol, they help Peter, who's battered but still carrying the gauntlet and trying to get to the van. The point is not to get the stones to the past, but to get them to Scott so he can hide them in the quantamverse where Thanos can't get to them. Carol takes on Thanos and the rest clear out the goons for Peter. Thanos struggles with Carol, and she gets attacked by more goons, then Thanos hurls his weapon and blows up the van before Peter can get to it. Peter is down. The gauntlet was blasted off in another direction and Thanos spots it. Hulk is still battling a swarm of goons. Strange and his sorcerers are still battling. BP, Scott, Rhodey, Falcon and Clint are clearing a path for Pepper to "Rescue" Nat and Peter and administer first aid.
    Now we go into the final battle with Thanos, Carol, Steve, Thor and Tony, but instead of Tony stealing the stones from Thanos, Nebula is the one that runs up to him after all the other heroes are down. She grabs his arm and sneakily uses the nano-tech Tony shared with her to steal the stones. Thanos does his empty guantlet snap and nothing happens. He turns to Nebula and she's powering up with the stones moving into position on her robotic hand. She's the one that snaps Thanos and his minions away, with him being shocked that it was her, the daughter he abused and hated that defeated him.
    Now this alternate verson doesn't have Nat or Tony dying, so if you still want Tony, Steve and Nat to be out of the picture because the actors are leaving the MCU, just have them seriously injured in the battle. Maybe Nat's in the hospital, (She took a hit during the "rain fire" sequence after shielding/saving Clint). Tony's in a wheelchair and Cap's hobbling on one leg with his arm in a sling. That way, we get to see what 10 years of the MCU has done to these characters. They've given all they had and at the end, they don't have anything left to give. They aren't indestructable like Hulk and Thor.
    At the end of the movie, Thor is preparing to take his hammer back to his younger self. After Thor is sent away, Cap then asks Tony for a favor, and we see Tony and Professor Hulk Banner give each other a look and they both nod. agreeing to send Steve back into the past. Before he goes, Cap leaves the shield with Sam and tells him to hold on to it for him. Cap still gets his little bullshit dance with Peggy, but it's not a healthy Cap abandoning earth in the aftermath of the unsnappening when billions of returned people are sending earth into another crisis. It's a hobbled, crippled Cap who doesn't have any fight left. A hero who's earned his leave. Maybe Nat is in a coma and Yelena still blames Clint for that, so we can still have that stupid Hawkeye plotline. We still get Thanos, but the Thanos we deserve and we don't have to spend half the movie arguing over time travel logic. The only loose end is Gamora, but we can solve that with an end credit scene of her being trapped in Soul World inside the Soul Stone. In the next Guardians movie, Quill and the Guardians are searching for Adam Warlock, the only person who can release her.

    What was up with the fact that they killed Loki and Gamora just to replace them with alternate versions? like, Gamora did not deserve to be killed off like that, and especially by Thanos. She tried so hard to escape him but he still got to her in the end, what a bad message. They had that one "girl power" scene, but that definitely doesn't make up for the fact that they killed off the two main females on each respective team. Natasha was the leader when everyone was still moping over the snap, and while Hawkeye was murdering people. She didn't have to die to be redeemed, and Tony had a life as well. Both did not deserve to just be killed for shock value. Also, what's with Loki's death though? it made no sense, and lead to nothing, which is why there were so many theories suggesting he was still alive. Finally, Captain America's conclusion. Three words. WHAT THE FRICK! the deaths did not work for the characters chosen and were simply used for shock value, if they had made sense I would be sad but move on.

    (and they did NOT need to sacrifice Natasha OR Clint. They could easily have yanked it away from Thanos when he first got it after Gamora died, before he put it in his gauntlet).
    2. Is nobody gonna address the most GLARING PROBLEM with bringing "everyone snapped away" back? What about the people who died because of the disappeared people? There is zero mention of whether they came back. Mothers whose babies died falling downstairs when the mom got dusted and dropped them... Do they come back 5 years later, then have to commit suicide when they find out their baby died that way? Passengers who crashed in the planes whose pilots were dusted? How about the UN-SNAPPED people who "appeared" in mid-air where their plane was 5 years ago, only to hit the ground 32000 feet below with a splat?
    I.W. even shows that one helicopter crashing into a building in NYC. Would that pilot just appear 5 years later, as high as the chopper had been, then fall to his death, maybe take out a pedestrian too? The writers could easily have had Hulk also mention those who died as a result of the vanishing snapped-away, but they are too lazy and overpaid to do it.
    3. Both Vision and Black Widow should have been brought back. Period. I hated the timing of the Black Widow movie, coming along after we all know she is pointlessly, stupidly, unnecessarily dead. I hate the Captain Marvel movie even more. That movie (and its boring, overpowered character) should have been saved for the next "phase" / story arc of films, or just sh!tcanned. Black Widow should have been rescued by Steve when he went to Vormir and learned that you can't actually "put back" the Soul Stone.
    And Vision? What a horrible waste of the amazing Paul Bettany and a cool character. It should have been HE who suddenly appeared to crash Thanos' ship and beat his a$$. Clint brought a baseball glove back from his home in that time-GPS test. Why couldn't they go to Vision right before he got stabbed in Edinburgh, and yank him away? We barely ever got to see Vision in action.
    4. The current "goodguy" Nebula tells "still mean" Gamora that Peter is her boyfriend. Why couldn't Gamora, seeing that Thanos is dead, and that Nebula is with the good guys, just chill out? And do you really buy that ANY version of Gamora or Nebula would "love" or miss or honor Thanos?
    5. Josh Brolin is good, but what's with his accent/voice? I don't like the utter lack of mention of why Outer Space Eternal Thanos talks like a Texas football coach. Come on, people. Thanos is from Titan, and it's fine to give him a humanoid face on the CGI body, but that accent is very distracting.
    6. Infinity War has a bunch of stupid crap too, but the most RIDICULOUS and glaring is when Black Widow, hardened lifelong pro assassin, walking weapon who coldly murdered human unenhanced soldiers on the Lumerian Star in Cap' Winter Soldier, actually says to the giant Blue Murder Girl Alien creature: "We don't want to kill you, but we will."
    That is the single most unforgivable piece of feces that the Russos ever inflicted on a paying moviegoer. Those two Thanos thugs damaged Vision permanently, nearly killed Wanda, and were trying to rip the stone out of Vision's head, and when Black Widow, Cap, and Sam showed up, they treated them gently until they Blue Sky-Beamed away. AAGH! That can't be unseen or unheard.
    And speaking of Infinity War, did you see how powerful Mau the Telekinetic Torture guy was, and how he went out like a lil' bitch in both films, both timelines? But he was absolutely unbeatable in New York in that fight. And Wong made quick work of the giant guy, but they had trouble with him when ALL the wizards were there in Endgame?
    And the worst of all, is that boring, stupid Thanos, one of the most poorly developed and forced "villains" i have ever seen or read in my life, was too powerful for Hulk, then got more and more stones, but almost got his a$$ kicked on Titan by 3 Avengers and 3 Guardians, then managed to BEAT UP 3 Avengers with ZERO STONES?
    Did I mention I hate the Stones? Not the Rolling ones, but the Infinity ones. Idiot silly childish plot mcguffins. and if they came from the Big Bang, why was one a Mind and one a Soul Stone?? Who had Minds and Souls at the birth of the universe?
    And all the Stone devastation should have been limited to one galaxy, as should Captain Marvel , if we must tolerate her. Do you know how huge a galaxy is? Even if the influence of the Stones happens at 100 times the speed of light, it would still take A THOUSAND YEARS to cross our own Milky Way. Science fiction in comic books needs to learn how to Science.
    I hate both of these movies, and I am glad to know I am not the only one.
    And like Sleuth said, now we are stuck with all this poop as canon, so that all the drivel they write after it has to take The Snap into account.
    Thor would have gone for the head, or remove the gauntlet arm.
    And Etri the Giant Dwarf should have got his 300 people back when the Un-Snap happened.
    And Hulk should not have suddenly been "scared" to appear in Infinity War.
    And what happened to the nice romance between Banner and Romanov? We just gonna pretend that was never a thing?
    Does every adult in these movies, besides Tony and his ladies, have to be totally sexless?
    And Drax is annoying.
    Peace out.

    I believe the difference between the characters who died or got old that didn't get resurrected and Gamora getting resurrected is the fact that those characters chose to sacrifice themselves. Gamora did not. I'm guessing making the choice to die in the MCU creates a fixed point in the timeline. I say that, but then the What If scenario with Dr. Strange and Christine Palmer states otherwise.

      Good question, obviously they didn’t out of studio reasons
      1) they want the film to be about 2 (yes the film is 3) hours long
      2) they want to expand the later phases such as Loki in a separate time branch which introduces Kang in the next films, especially to see Stan Lee in 1970
      3) play a dramatic moment to murder black widow to expand Clint’s guilt
      4) They really want a biggest final battle, despite the 2014 Thanos is not consistently on the same motivation
      As a result if I were doctor strange I should never foresee the 14,000,000 outcomes. Sure something worse could happen if they disarmed 2018 Thanos without quill whacking his face but whatever worse could happen then they along with the og avengers could handle it, in return the later phases would be better

    Great video. I agree 100%. Here were some of my problems with the film (some are the same as yours):
    - Thanos dies in first 10 mins
    - The infinity stones cannot actually be destroyed otherwise the universe would be destroyed
    - Tony figures out time travel in one night
    - Hulk is essentially dead as we see no sign of his old personality, just his body, with Bruce's mind. No Hulk development, fights, etc. No redemption.
    - Black widow and Hawkeye love each other all of sudden? And the most important thing in the universe is each other / their own lives? Didn't get that part at all.
    - Big group female battlefield moment
    - Iron man saying "i am iron man" instead of "we are the avengers" or something along those lines since it's not Iron Man 4
    - Captain America seamlessly just uses the power of Thor better than Thor himself

    1. Thanos is bland in this film (because he's literally not the same thanos we met in infinity war)
    2. Thor's arc is ruined and is turned into a joke that lasts way too long
    3. Hulk is changed completely again from the previous film and is turned into a joke that lasts way too long. He also doesn't do anything in the final battle
    4. Captain marvel's inclusion in this film feels contrived and she's unlikeable. She also steals the original cast's thunder during the final battle
    5. Time travel plot holes. As you point out, there were easier times for them to get the stones and there are also inconsistencies in their time travel rules. When you change time, it is supposed to create a new timeline, not alter the existing ones but when Rodgers goes back to live with peggy, we see old him on a bench in the existing timeline.
    6. Ugly visuals. Cheap and lazy set design and techniques to make it seem like they are in real 3d spaces rather than green screens.
    7. No funeral for natasha and weak response from hulk
    8. Horrible pacing (this is caused due to the movie trying to juggle too many characters, them spending way too much time on the depressed heroes figuring out their lives post snap and the movie trying to explain away and then cover too many plot points and events)
    9. Feminism (reason I think why thor was made pathetic, captain marvel was forced into the film and ofc that cringey girl power scene)
    10. Jokes ruin the tone, there's too many of them and they are made at the expense of the characters
    11. It isn't timeless. Things like the fortnite reference will age poorly.
    12. Captain america using mjolnir makes thor even more pathetic in this film. His hammer and control over lightning are his main superpowers that make him unique and now he's lost that thing that made him special.
    There's probably more but I cant think rn... lemme know

    Everything you said at the beginning about killing off the original Thanos, I couldn’t agree more with you. It makes every interaction in Infinity War completely POINTLESS, and now you don’t even get the satisfaction of watching the guy who caused all there problems get defeated, because the guy at the climax is NOT THE SAME PERSON. I completely agree with you, this movie should’ve been about the survivors trying to find a way to defeat him.
    All I wanted was to see Thanos get stripped of his dignity the same way he stripped the hero’s of their dignity, and they couldn’t even give me that. I hate quoting memes, but:
    “Endgame writers, you had ONE job!”

      You know that version of Thanos that you wanted to see get his, he's dead, in a hut on a garden planet, with his dinner still on the table.
      Well, some space rabbits probably came and ate it by now, but...not the point. The point is, he WAS defeated. His snap was undone, and he's dead. Granted, they didn't happen in that order, but they happened.

    • @JohnSmith-sq3lo
      @JohnSmith-sq3lo 3 года назад +23

      Yes, he may have died, but he still didn’t face any justice for his actions. Honestly the fact that they brought in another version of him just made the whole thing even worse, because now people say “Thanos got what was coming to him.” No, he didn’t. THAT Thanos has nothing to do with anything, the one that was REALLY responsible for ALL their problems died exactly the death he wanted to die, thinking he had won.
      I mean, you can or can’t believe in Hell all you want, and can choose to believe that he got his punishment in the next life if you want to, but it’s still not satisfying because you never see it. I mean, I’d like to believe he’s suffering for all eternity for everything he did, but you have to admit it would’ve been better if he’d been ACTUALLY defeated first before suffering that fate, instead of the Hell doing all of the work off screen (if you even choose to believe any of that, of course).
      But thanks for trying to comfort me, anyway. I do appreciate it, and I hope you understand none of my aggression is directed at you, I was just very disappointed by this movie.

    • @jayborussell
      @jayborussell 3 года назад +8

      I completely disagree with the Thanos stuff. Infinity war was Thanos' movie. He accomplished his goal. He died believing he had won. There was nothing left for his character. In his mind he died a hero.

    • @JohnSmith-sq3lo
      @JohnSmith-sq3lo 3 года назад +12

      Yes, and that’s exactly the problem. First of all, his story wasn’t finished. He won, but now he had to defend that victory. And if he didn’t deserve to win, then he MUST fail. Sequels use that template ALL THE TIME. (If you don’t believe me, just look at the template for The Empire Strikes Back. And it uses that logic on the HEROES, no less.)
      And let me ask you another question. Did Thanos really DESERVE to die thinking he was the hero? The man was just a vindictive genicidal manic who convinced himself that his failed philosophy would save the universe all to serve his own self-importance. Forgive me for using such an extreme example, but Adolf Hitler committed the worst crimes in modern history, all the while believing that he was a hero who was going to “save” Germany based on a failed philosophy. He thought he was a hero doing a good thing, so did HE deserve to die believing that he was a hero and that he won? No. There was just enough justice left in this world that he at least died knowing that his life’s work was nothing but a complete failure and that he would end up the most hated man on earth.
      And I also hate this idea that the original Thanos was “honorable” and that’s why he deserved to die like that. The truth is there was absolutely NOTHING honorable about him. Yes, he fights the hulk with his fists, but you can’t tell me that if he thought for one second the hulk might actually gain the advantage over him that he would’ve hesitated to use the power stone. Thanos only fought “fair” because everything always went HIS way. And if anything his “you have my respect, Stark” is frankly almost patronizing like he’s the final authority on it, and I honestly would never WANT the respect of somebody like him.
      So my point is, you mean to say that a man who convinced himself he had to commit mass genocide all in a vindictive attempt to prove past demons that were long dead wrong all while under the guise of being “honorable” really deserved to die believing he was a HERO? If you ask me Thanos (and I mean INFINITY WAR’s Thanos) deserved to die realizing his whole life was nothing but a complete failure. That after EVERYTHING he’d done and learned, he had actually accomplished NOTHING.

      I know it's a bit late but here's my take on Fat Thor.
      It seems silly, but it works. Thor has always been very sensitive and feels things very deeply. We've seen more jokey, Earth influenced Thor as of late but don't forget this is the guy who sobbed when he found out he had failed Odin in Thor 1 and sulked when after losing most of his people in Thanos' assault. What kept him moving every time he gets into a funk? A call to action, to protect and avenge. Early in the movie he kills Thanos but the thing is, Thor's call to action almost always ends in success... this time there's an emptiness. Yeah he killed Thanos, but nothing is better. Nothing is fixed, and this time he blames himself squarely because he had the chance to stop him and didn't. Thor's call to action failed and now there's nobody to set his sights on or blame or attack or start a crusade over. There's just loss. It makes sense int he moment. Thor has ALWAYS felt things deeply and this hurts him. This is a believable bit of character development. Also the fat Thor thing feels very normal after Ragnarok because Thor has gotten progressively "Earth-washed" as I call it after spending so much time on Earth with Tony and the crew. His mannerisms changed, his jokes changed, yeah the writers changed but the in universe explanation is that his time with friends really changed his personality. If Ragnarok never happened this scene would've felt so out of place but honestly given Ragnarok it feels natural and I promise you, if you liked Thor and Ragnarok you won't be disappointed. In what is one of MY personal favorite scenes Frigga reunites with Thor and he realizes how he's acting. Is this out of character? NO. Thor ALWAYS needs guidance. He gets guidance from Odin, he gets guidance from Frigga, he gets guidance from Rocket in Infinity War and so forth. He gets himself together and him turning over Asgard may seem weird and admittedly I was shocked at first but I have no insider in the House of Mouse info but I'm 95% sure it's because while this story IS an ending for most OG Avengers it is NOT and ending for Thor. Unlike Cap and Tony he is NOT done growing. We will see another Thor movie and he will continue to grow as a person. So if you feel shortchanged just know it's because not EVERY OG Avenger's story ends here. Thor's sure as hell doesn't, there will be more Thor. Also remember, Thor has been alive hundreds of years and only in the last TEN Has he grown from being the jock we saw in Thor 1. He's still a bit young proportionately to growing up, he still has a journey.

    It seems like the downfall began with Infinity War. As soon as they introduced Thanos directly to the Avengers, they ran out of ways to construct battle scenes. I think it started with Thanos defeating Hulk in the beginning of the movie. The Hulk is arguably the strongest you can possibly get in the Marvel universe, and he only gets stronger with rage. How would Thanos whooping his ass, not get him angry. Instead he gets sad, and gets Heimdall'd away. WTF! They should have waited to introduce the two, and have the Hulk take him on when he had some more stones. Stones like the reality stone, that could easily be understood why Thanos has the upper hand. Just saying he's more powerful because of the power stone means nothing to us as viewers. In Endgame, Thanos seems to have the same power as when he possesses the power stone. How does this make any sense? There was no reason the Hulk couldn't have fought better than the movie portraited, against just the power stone.
    They only made it worse in Endgame when introducing Captain Marvel. Now we have an Avenger that could fly right trough Thanos like a bullet, but for the dumbest reasons the writers can think of, she is either off in another galaxy that we couldn't care less about, or she is severely crippled when directly up against Thanos. Why would she struggle at all when attempting to take the gauntlet from Thanos? She is leagues stronger than him, with speeds that he shouldn't even be keeping up with. Putting these two up against each other should have been less than a minute in battle, with her just flying though him, or punching his head clean off. This movie was sad!

      I honestly hate the first scene of Infinity War too, but because Loki the master of magic and a literal God with endless magical powers decides to straight up stab Thanos instead of using any of his magical abilities. It's like the writers forget he has more powers than just stabbing people.

    • @n1kolodian
      @n1kolodian 9 месяцев назад

      @@6thgraderfriends Very true as well. I agree Loki went out too easy. This is the problem with super powerful characters. You run out of ways to have the fight realistically without stripping away or greatly diminishing their powers for the sake of story time. If they left their powers alone, I think the entire movie would be over in 10 minutes, because that's all the time needed to settle these disputes with characters on this level.
      Between Loki, The Hulk, Thor, Heimdall and a good chunk of the Asgardians, Thano's should have gotten his ass beat in the first scene, or at the very least not been able to acquire the space stone that easily. I also think that Thano's should have had the most difficult time possible to acquire the time stone. Without just modifying reality, how would he have any hope in getting that thing from Dr Strange? That dude kept Dormammu at bay, after that, Thanos is a bitch in comparison. I get that he's powerful, but if he was this powerful throughout the preceding movies, why did he wait this long before attacking the avengers? I think the writers aren't paid enough to turn the plot into something masterful. Instead they're motivated just enough to keep the plot moving forward in a way the producers want it to go, all while trying keep things as believable as possible.

      @@kbs8681 they did ruin it. Infinity war was way better because time travel ruined the film. The final fight was dumb also because iron man captain America and thor couldn’t beat thanos without the gauntlet. But in infinity war Thor almost killed thanos. Also captain marvel was a dumb character it’s like in the justice league when Superman shows up out of no where and does everything. Also the movie was boring too. It’s not as fun and intense as infinity war because you care about the characters more in infinity war. Also that all female scene was cringy and dumb. The movie could have been way better.

      @@jacobhersel5802 IW is really flawed. They haven't fought for five years, plus this Thanos wanted to actually kill the Avengers. If IW Thanos was as bloodthirsty he could've ended the fight long before it started, he could've just turned them into bubbles. Thor caught Thanos off guard that's the only reason he almost killed him. How does helping the Avengers make Captain Marvel dumb? She didn't do everything what are you talking about? Entertainment is subjective so just because you was not entertained doesn't mean it's a bad movie. If I say Godfather is boring that doesn't mean it's a bad movie I just wasn't personally entertained by it. Action isn't what makes a movie good. It seems that character driven films are not right for you and you're more of a action packed person. The female scene is also subjective since it's not a good or bad thing about the movie if it works for you then it just does, if it doesn't then it don't.

    one thing about time travelling movies, is that you dont want make branch or alt time line, its confusing, inconsistent and boring. You want to make your character trying to change the timeline but it only help turning the current timeline even truer, the most they can do is giving others better chance to live as the current timeline play out, instead of just pulling people back from other timelines

      Yea, I watched the movie I’m theaters with my friends, and also again with my dad. And I liked it. But then I watched it a third time and realized how dumb and empty it is. Tony’s sacrifice isn’t emotional because it doesn’t make sense. I realized I probably enjoyed the first 2 watches because I was watching with friends and family. Most stuff is better with the homies.

    I think I disagree with every point you made but you are welcome to your opinion and I'm not going to say it's stupid, cause it's not, but I do think it's nitpicking quite heavily. There is no such thing as a perfect plot in fiction. Every single story that has ever been created can be picked at. It certainly makes life miserable if that's your approach.
