Jess, I love that you said “this is not her job.” So many family channels will force their children to create content and shove a camera in their face and they didn’t chose that life. You also mentioned the word consent which is so important. Kids don’t understand social media and don’t have the knowledge to consent to being online. I wish more people would have the understanding that you and Gabe have, it’s so important. You are wonderful parents and are doing an amazing job in case you needed that reminder❤️

I was so excited for this ep to come out. Out of all the couple vloggers, you guys have always been a favorite and now I know why. You guys are so honest and vulnerable to have this conversation, and you're absolutely 100% correct, this needs to be an open conversation. I appreciate your perspective, and thank you for being so open

Jess & Gabe you guys are so obviously one of the most genuine and real people, with such real conversations that are brought to light in a very deep, yet light- hearted way. This podcast is so far, TOO good!! Congrats guys. THANK YOU for this piece you share with us🩵

You guys are so intentional with how you're raising Kiah, it's beautiful to see how much you're thinking about everything and putting so much effort into it - with the emails, the letter on her 1st bday, private family vlogs this is just so wholesome. I genuinely hope your babies grow up appreciating all of this (the years after they start secondary school (year 7 upwards, so aged 12 upwards) can be a toughie with all of the outside noise so I hope all of this just warms their souls to know just how loved they are. I'm honestly taking mental notes from you guys for my own future babies. Loving these raw convos💖

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!!!! oh my gosh the relief I feel that you two were the ones to come out and make this video. I’ve been saying for a while that a really good, level headed family channel needs to be the start of a movement that SO badly needs to happen. Thank you thank you! 😭🩷 hopefully at least one family takes something from this and makes a change. It’s so so important.

i have been watching the two of you since 2015/2016 and not once have i stopped watching and loving your content and videos. the vulnerability and authenticity that the two of you omit (individually and as a couple) has been one of the most beautiful things to witness on youtube, and the internet as a whole. it is the biggest honor and pleasure to have watched you two over the years grow, evolve, get married, become parents, and as you so wonderfully put, "live life together." the creation and existence of this podcast makes me so beyond happy and i can't wait to continue on this journey with you both :')

Absolutely agree with this topic of respecting your child’s privacy and putting out the online boundaries to protect her from lurking predators out there. I really hope this create more awareness of the fact that it is something not to be frowned upon but rather practiced in this current age. Fame can never recover the traumas and regrets that follows if things took a bad turn. I’m so proud of you two for successfully pulling this off and thank you for willing to share your real personal experiences. God bless!

I was about to start cooking - this is perfectly timed, thank you so much! ❤️ Also I think a lot of celebrities/influencers overshare their children on social media so I like you two don‘t show her face/barely show her in general. She‘s barely a year old, she can‘t even talk yet (properly I suppose) so how can she make a decision like this? YOU guys chose to be on RUclips and social media, she did not. Once she‘s old enough to make that choice, she can and she will. I love that you‘re setting and respecting her boundaries even though she‘s not even aware of them herself. A lot of people’s children in the spotlight would benefit from your mindset. 🤍

Awful people will really go to great lengths to use photos posted online inappropriately. I worked as a TV reporter and people would take my images and try to sell inappropriate stuff online. One time they used my photos to catfish on Tinder...so it has also made me really careful about what I post, where it's posted and who gets to see it. It's so necessary to protect children from this kind of stuff...

Hey ❤ I’ve been following ye for years, since Gabes vine days. I am so glad to hear you both talk on this topic, it’s so important!!!
I grew up not knowing what my purpose was in life and then I stumbled on social work. I work with children and families all the time and it is so hard to showcase the dangers of social media. Also because of it still being quite new, some parents don’t have access or all the education on it until it is too late. Although it has so many pros it also has these massive cons that can be life altering. There are so many families that I know that if they could turn back time they would never post their children or give them social media accounts at a young age. It is honestly every parents decision on what they feel is best but the more that social media progresses, the more danger it becomes on the data and information that can be accessed with a click of a button.
I respect you both greatly for doing this for your child and may god bless you and your family 💕
    Lots of love, Cait x

I actually really agree with all of the points you have made. I’ve never really thought about it from those perspectives.
My one thought is, when she gets old enough to attend school or another child’s birthday party, will she have to sit out from class/group pictures? I feel like that would be hard to control who’d get a hold of photos like that after they are taken in a larger group that’s not family.
Thanks for making this video. It’s made me very thoughtful about the topic🤍

Beautifully said! I think that in asking your kids/teens if they’re okay with you sharing a photo of them, you’re modeling/teaching them to do the same for others including yourself and friends.. extending a mutual respect for others, not just themselves! It also instills the value of thinking before posting in general. Great conversation! Love listening and learning with you guys 🤍 ( around 28:00 )

I am glad that you two are talking about this topic. There's this woman on my Facebook that I went to high school with..and I don't really know her. Although, she posts her two sons literally every day in different various photo albums. It makes me uncomfortable because she'll tag their location, and them in their swim trunks at the beach.. anything you can think of. I respect if parents choose to not show their children- the only thing I don’t get is if some post pictures or vlogs with their children allll the times with the camera in their faces but then blurry their faces…. Like… pick a side. So you don’t want to really post them but also want to profit of the fact, that people are interested in seeing those ‘family channels' ?! Those content creators cringe me out the mostttt

I have so much respect for your choice and for you discussing this on your podcast. I understand that most people don’t have the privilege to understand your decision, but as someone who has worked in child development and child welfare for years and is now finishing my masters in child therapy, I think this is such an important discussion to be had. It is not good for children’s development to grow up as a child star or child RUclipsr. Even aside from their self-view and the extreme risk of harm, it teaches them that their boundaries are not important and that is so detrimental to their development, attachment, and life trajectory.

I have and still get lots of flack from my family and in-laws for wanting to keep our daughter offline. As a society it is SO ingrained to over share on social media that the idea of asking someone to taper that back is shocking to them. Thank you for making this podcast ep because it really verbalizes so much of this whole concept of keeping your child offline well. I feel like I’ll have a better way to explain why I’m not comfortable with her being online and I’d feel so comfortable sending this episode to them if necessary.

For me I would say that Gabe’s point on creepers or scammers etc, is a really important point to discuss. It will be most important because it is something that does not affect just one individual but also that individuals child. With keeping this point everything you discussed, when do you think your daughter will be fully be apart of not just your podcast but also your channel. I’m not a parent, but I feel a good age to start introducing any kid to social media would be around the age of 10.

This is so important. I've never really thought about all sides to this topic. I'm not a parent per say but I have 16 years younger sister and in some parts I feel like her second mom.
I saw so many videos about how showing your kid can be dangerous because of the hidden predators, and yes, maybe it is not so common but it can happened to anyone and that's so so scary!
And the other aspect is to see how stuff on the internet can shape young minds, the influence is far too big sometimes so if there is a chance for kids to grow without internet I would take it.

    I love this whole conversation!
One thing that I’ve been wondering these last couple years is: whatever happened to good old photo albums? Like actual printed photos? Or home videos? I’ve never really understood the argument „Oh I just want to post this for the memories“. But why do you have to post online? Why not keep it just on your laptop or wherever you like to save files or print pictures etc. I understand the „posting private“ but I still don’t think it’s safe. Things can get leaked and as soon as you put anything out there on the internet on whatever platform (even if private) you really can’t control what will happen to that.

But not when strangers can see. I don’t even “like” the pics of the faceless emoji kids 😂. Weirdos abound. But I’m also the person that doesn’t think it’s great to post in a bathing suit for a bunch of strangers. Again, weirdos abound. And ya just never know what they’re up to. I have real questions about the developmental implications of all of this, and also, the notion that your parents have so much control over your narrative and disseminate it online to so many people. I appreciate that you opened up on an important topic and I personally find this kind of Podcast more interesting when it’s about you, then podcast speaking about news of important celebrities and fame that we can actually search in internet if we are interested.
    ❤❤️

the absolute best parents. Everything you’re doing is in consideration for ur daughters’ life and feelings. Its so amazing to see. Also, I absolutely LOVE all the ideas u guys are doing to make sure Kaia has a lot of memories to look back on. The emails, the personal family vlogs, adorable. I would’ve loved if my parents did that for me. She’s going to appreciate all that u two are doing when she’s older and understands why y’all set the limits u did. I’m loving this podcast and love u two 🫶🏽🫶🏽

I am so blessed and thankful that I did not have my daughter during this current time of electronics. She was in middle school early high school during my space. But, you guys are way ahead of the game on where you want to go with raising kids. Being in agreement. Since your career is with electronics, they need to know the difference. But say what
You mean, mean what you say and give the kiddos an age- 13 or whatever and it gives them something to
Look forward to it. You guys are doing great. With the kindle you guys add the books- unfortunately there are a lot of books that are not appropriate. God Bless you guys

I love this! There are so many dangers in the the world and I love that you are not exploiting your children by opening them up to those dangers. I have gained so much respect for you both!

Very insightful! You touched on it slightly but would love if you guys can talk about how you navigate tech use/social media yourselves and what you would do/ how you would allow your children to use it

Thanks for talking about this ❤️ it does makes sense for you guys with the large following that you have, but I feel like it would kind of suck to be so limited on what you can post 😅 because your daughter is probably beautiful! however, this did motivate me to go through facebook followers and delete a lot of people that I haven’t seen in years! Especially since I’m about to have my first baby in 1 month! So thank you guys ❤️

The only family I've finally heard have this conversation🙏 too many family influencers to tag here that I wish did.
This is the only conversation I want to be hearing from family influencers anymore. And yet it's not. Money blinds people. Thank you guys for having this convo.
You're allowed to judge parents and influencers who are abusing their power. At this point, don't be afraid to offend people.

I have huge respect for you guys deciding not to show your sweet girl on social media. My husband and I are expecting our first child and have nowhere near a following like you guys nor do we have social media as our jobs, and we are even having the conversations of showing our child on social media, and we are leaning more towards not.
It’s a scary world out there and I 100% agree with you guys on doing our best to protect our children! ❤

I agree with everything you say about parenting. I also agree that social media is dangerous. but I think you forgot exactly in this episode that social media has ensured that you are in a relationship now because without social media you would never get to know each other and can also bring something very beautiful. Love this podcast! you to are so pleasant to listen to

I really like this podcast so far. It’s really nice to see you guys have a more long form conversation on your thoughts about things. And I’m excited to see who your guests are soon. 😊 I just beg of you to never have The LaBrants come on. I know they’re popular Christian RUclipsrs, but they’ve just done so many awful things.

I have so much respect for yall with keeping makaiahs face hidden, and your plans for the future as she gets older. I don't even have kids but my husband and I have had so many conversations regarding this topic, and I am 100% keeping my kid off social media and setting those boundries with friends and family. But I agree with setting the boundries with your kids and electronics/social media!

Super love your reasoning behind why you don’t show Makaiah on social media 💯 I’d do anything to go back to my childhood days not having to use social media and worrying about my notifications and numbers of likes. I just wish I could go off grid and be 100% present. But can’t do that since I work for an advertising agency. Moderation and self-control is gonna be key 🔑
