- Here's a breakdown on how Sonic's Moveset was made better by plenty of mods, where they try their own ways of changing Sonic's Moveset. This video will show Project Plus, HDR, Smash Flash 2, Smash Crusade, Beyond Melee and Ultimate S.

You are an OG if you remember the good old days of brawl modding,with all those amazing god tier custom movesets for the roster. Game was peak modding for the franchise even to this day
As a Sonic main in all Smash titles, even modded ones, I agree that Sonic needs move sets like these. But I like to see newer move sets based on the combat from Sonic Frontiers as they now definitely show Sonic can fight his foes rather than just turning into a ball or boosting

Forget the games, read the comics. Sonic and his friends don't mess around. While I'm not going to bitch about Sonic's moveset (seriously guys, let it go), I do agree that it feels like either Nintendo didn't even try, or they have no real idea about Sonic's background/universe.
Exactly now they can have a really reason to give sonic a good move set
Sonic deserves the moveset that better represents his characater and capabilities. Hopefully with Sonic Frontiers and Sakurai playing the game and seeing it as a "must play" before release. I am hopeful Sonic will get a excellent moveset with next Smash entry. Gone are the days of the stigma where people believed that "Sonic isn't a fighter." that many said for years, which isn't true.
A merging of Sonic Battle, Frontiers and such will be perfect for him.
Sonic in PM/P+ actually FEELS like Sonic and simply awesome. Actually care and love was added to him.

But there's a chance Sakurai won't make the next Smash game (which is why he went all out for Ultimate)... Then again, he also did and said the exact same thing for every previous Smash game sooo...

Honestly Project + Sonic is probably the best moveset for Sonic it’s way more fun and it has references to Sonic’s games, I wish it was official!
I hope that after Frontiers, Sakurai would further adjust his moveset to be more versatile than just "🔵"
Also good detail to note,in the older versions of SSF2(super smash flash 2) at around 2014 or so,a lot of sonic's moveset changes there were used for almost every PM mod at the time,including the side B dash,the axe kick Fair,etc. Always is amazing to see an entire community come together and mish mash ideas
Axe Kick Fair was actually the other way around.
Sonic had his Brawl/Smash 4/Ult Forward Air before his resprite (so any version before Beta), and then it was changed to be the Axe Kick in the first version of Beta when Sonic was resprited.
They should have kept the 9b down b no cap
@@MedhaosUnite yeah you are right,my memory got messed up because I remember playing a heavily modded version of SSF2 before the beta,where it was a transforming Sonic mod where he happened to get the Axe kick as his forward air
With Sonic’s move set in Frontiers, I can’t wait to see what fans do
In Beyond Melee Sonic’s run starts slow but accelerates fast to mimic sonic games, I think this also helps gameplay because he can cover large distances quickly but can’t run away as much in close quarters
Something that you can do in crusade that you didn’t mention was that sonic can do tricks with the grab button mid air to charge up his boost quicker, something unique to that version of the charater
I’m surprised there hasn’t (at least to my knowledge) been a version of Sonic to have his bounce attack as dair, pogoing off characters like Greninja would be very fitting and stylish.
Smash Flash 2 had it as his airborne Down Special... man, I miss that move a lot.

You should've mentioned that if you used Sonic's Down B in the air in SSF2 pre-beta it does the bouncing thing from SA2 and it's a spike that's so satisfying to pull out
Shout out to Smash Remix for doing as good as PM in terms of fixing his moveset and also having Adventure and Classic inspired costumes plus Super Sonic as a secret character.
This really goes to show not just how underwhelming official smash Sonic can be, but as well as how phenomenal Project M Sonic is.
Pretty much every mod and fan game you talked about took something from PM Sonic.

I see these cool moves and wonder how cool it would have been to see them actually implemented officially. It would end a lot of the undeserved hate Sonic gets in Smash. 😮💨

The best change has to be making Sonic's Boost his Side-B, as someone who is a huge fan of the boost, I can't even begin to describe how happy that made me!
some fun facts: Not only the forward air but also the PM+ Down smash, that flip kick up-smash/up-tilt, the new jab combo are all from Sonic Battle, and the flash game use his sprite from the game as well. The PM+ side special is the summersault from Adventure 2. And the N-air from beyond melee is one of the air tricks from the Sonic Advance and Rush games.

Also the N64 mod Smash Remix does a good job of referencing sonic, using Sonic the Fighters to reference more moves like his backthrow.
Smash Remix (a Smash '99 mod) has a playable Sonic, and is loosely based on his P+ and Beyond Melee counterparts. Even Super Sonic is playable, but is a boss-style character like Giga Bowser and the Mad Piano.

IMO Sonic's problems are often overblown. Some people still pretend his every attack is 🔵 when there's only 6 of those moves in Ultimate. The biggest issue is that 3 of those are specials, and I agree he should get a different side special. The rest of the moveset is at least fine, and I don't understand why you'd want to get rid of stuff like the jab combo when it's a good and fitting reference to not only Sonic Fighters but Virtua Fighter as well.

I've never seen this channel or any videos quite like this, but I still enjoyed the video. I want to say that since I don't really have much else to comment on other than the fact that I found it funny that throughout the entire video, you keep saying "X moves came back from Project M" when they didn't, all those moves come from sonic battle. It was especially hilarious when you were talking about them returning in Crusade where sonic is literally just using his sonic battle sprites, which should have made it obvious where those moves originated. Other than that though I thought the video was pretty cool, and it was interesting to learn about the different ways that fans have made changes to and arguably improved Sonic's moveset.
2:12 sonic’s down smash is also a reference to sonic battle, he does the breakdancing move at the end of his auto combo

Just thought you might wanna look out for a WIP mod by Phazoganon called Smash Bros EXO; he has some great design & balance ideas thus far, like a great revamp for Sonic or turning vanilla Ganondorf into Sen. Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (with Ganondorf maybe getting a moveset closer to canon appearances in future, for those who think he needs a bigger overhaul)

I like how they did Sonic moveset in Smash 64 remix my favorite animation is his Down Air and Back Throw.
Boost is the #1 thing I've always been baffled never got added to Sonic's moveset, as modern Sonic games are all about the boost mechanic and it is an easy replacement for the side B spin dash. Glad to see that someone went ahead and put it in his moveset.
My mod favorite of Sonic is Project M, because that moveset would have been Sonic, if it hadn't been added at the last moment!

Yoo if sonic had a good move set dude you don’t know how much i would play this character. I was really disappointed on how he was represented in smash with no new characters nor stages beside green hill and windy hill. You don’t know how much potential that sonic has and these mods proves that. I grow up with sonic ever since a little kid and seen his move set being one of the most lack luster and uninspired move set in the entire game just really sucks. Idk why Sakurai choose to choose one game and that game was sonic the fighters 🫤 if Nintendo were to have another smash game make sonics move set better.
I think if a new Smash game came out, it's about time we get a new rep like Shadow. They don't have to completely change Sonic, but a least give him the Ganon/Lino treatment and change his more lackluster moves.
Are these mods still playable? As a Sonic main I have gotta play these if I get a laptop that can play these kinds of things

I'm gonna be honest- Removing Emerald Dive for Sonic Eagle has always felt wierd to me. I feel like everyone obsesses about it being a Sonic Battle reference while completely ignoring the fact the original was already a reference to Sonic's other fighting game. In fact Emerald Dive was Sonic's main special move in Sonic the Fighters... Maybe future mods could make it a dash attack?
