Fun fact: instead of using a unique model, Brawl Sonic actually uses his model from Secret Rings with the muzzle swapped out on the fly for the mouth.

If there’s anything good about ultimate Sonic, it’s that he has two less spindash moves than he did in brawl.

@@Sonicbest56o Though I'll be it, his dash attack was better off as a ball move, as it represents one of the most common usecases for rolling in the classics.
Pit in Brawl had most of his special moves changed in Smash 4 onwards and Sonic deserves the same treatment. Maybe one day, Sakurai will give Sonic some brand new moves based on the modern games, especially from Sonic Frontiers as Sakurai himself enjoyed the game.
Sonic was very clearly a last minute addition to Brawl, as even though I enjoy playing as him in that game, he definitely feels quite glitchy and underdeveloped compared to later games. This is also why he doesn't show up in Subspace Emissary until the final boss, since Sakurai literally didn't have enough time to add Sonic to the main story without changing things significantly.
Sonic's come up in Smash was wild. From being fast but weak in Brawl, to being insanely strong in Smash 4, and being King of the Timeouts in Ultimate. All that and he had no significant moveset changes. Amazing.

Smash 4 was when Sonic was truly “King of the Timeouts.” Wrath, Ken, and Komorikiri were always seen as hyper defensive back then (when Sonic could shield cancel his spin dash)
Will forever baffle me that he never officially got the Sonic Battle axe kick in Smash. It was even on the cover!
Still, mained him since Brawl and always found it interesting conceptually that a character you'd think would be aggressive and rushdown centric thanks to their mobility actually works best as a defensive hit and run character. Great video as always!
Sonic was one of my most played characters back in Brawl. Hopefully the next Smash game will see a much needed revamp for his moveset.

Me and my brothers instituted a houserule in Brawl that for every time you play Sonic who is super fun (while janky) you need to punish yourself by playing Bowser either the previous or following round, as he's extremely unsatisfying to play.
to be honest a video like this with game and watch would be something since in every game he was in but ultimate he was a mid tier or low tier

Sonic needs a good moveset instead of just being campy.

His* forward air axe kick in Project M is sooooo fun. I wish he had that in the base game

he is still pretty good in the hit and run category but i did wish when he hits a ledge he does that balancing animation before he falls off
also that punch move is op it literally ignores all attacks

What drives me crazy is that these videos are well made and well edited but most videos have tons of misinformation. Like he’s not double checking half of what he’s saying or consulting anyone about it. It keeps catching me off guard that it will be a fine video and then he will say something like sonic can’t shield cancel side special in smash 4
Sonic can shield cancel Side Special in Smash 4 tho, so technically your point is invalid.

15:45 I show Sonic canceling Spin Dash with shield. But if I said otherwise, leave me the timestamp its possible it was a tiny script error those things happen.
Sonic is literally the reason I picked up Corrin as a secondary. I normally play Joker, but Sonic is his worst matchup. So I googled Sonix’s matchup chart, saw Corrin listed as even (there are no bad matchups on Sonix’s matchup chart), and decided to try them out. Good news is, I discovered that Corrin’s a fun character anyway, but that should really tell you how bad it is when I pick up another character just to beat one
I would love to see Sonic redesigned from a hit and run character to a combo heavy character.
Project M 2.5/2.6 and even 3.02 Sonic was hands down the best Sonic design he’s ever had. RIP.

23:04 the top left is side b because the animation involved sonic in a tilted angle. You can also tell by the way the aura around sonic is positioned. Top left is jump, top right is Nair and bottom right is homing attack

I really hope that the next smash focuses more on reworking old characters.
obvoiusly sonic is mostly just spindash the character but I'm talking about characters like Mario or Gannondorf.
Mario hasn't been changed at all except for a few animations since melee where he got 1 new move because smash 64 didn't have side specials.
and gonnondorf is probably the character with the most missed potential. he has so much reference material and none of it is used except for his smash attacks.
also a new Fzero character would be nice and just making Blood Falcon with gannondorf's current moveset would be pretty much perfect.

"the savior of smash" is probably the cringiest title I saw in awhile
don't get me wrong but could making sonic more balanced just be to lower the knockback growth of his moves but increase the base knockback so that he's less combo focused. also just decrease his move priority and defensive ability such as worse ledge and prone options esspecially heavier landing lag. final change I would make would be to replace sonic's down air and give his fast fall that speed. sonic's down air could be replaced with something simple like that kick everyone want's to be his forward air but just towards the screen instead of to the side it still spikes though.
Melee Bowser has some of the same problems as brawl sonic , where he use his shell on 90 percent of his attacks.
Too bad Sonic is less expressive in Smash 4 and Ultimate. Brawl was much more expressive.
Honestly, I main Sonic way before he hit S+. Him being in the some tier with Steve stills surprises me.

He was a last minute inclusion in brawl and for some reason Sakurai was like “what if we stuck with this dog shit moveset we have for him?”

The only reason why sonic was ranked in S tier in both smash ultimate and smash 4 was probably due to the laggy ass Nintendo server and sonic just being way too fast

Sonic is good but he really struggles agianst characrers with alot projectiles like richet rob pikachu in my oppinon I am a sonic main and feel like greinja does better agianst projectle characters since he has a projectle and a counter
Sonic in Smash has no inspiration on Sonic Battle, Sakurai played Sonic 2006, Sonic the Fighters and even Shadow the Hedgehog
The people who whine about Sonic's ability to run away ignore how Snake and Rosalina can just kill clock it is more of a core issue with how Nintendo chooses to design the game than Sonic. Stop crying about him and ask Nintendo why they refuse to make the game faster and make it so there is more interactions instead of less?

I played Sonic since Brawl
In Brawl I think Sonic deserved to be higher because to me he did well against certain characters and could open them up.
I think he beat Ike and Pit while giving Marth a lot of trouble. I loved playing Sonic against Marth's, making them think it was a losing MU.
I am glad Sonic is strong in 4 and Ultimate. He had a amazing glow up.

Smash ultimate Sonic fan,s that's no good
give him wisp like color power as powerful KO powers, with a meter that decays every second. The meters grows when ever he deals and take damage.
His base moveset is same as ultimate but less ko power and knockback, and is lighter, but is circumvented with wisp color powers.
on 50: he can use wisps as weapons.
on 100: he can transform into the color power.
on 150: he can use final smash.
on 200: he wins the game.
