I love it when a man cooks for his wife, I loved the way you cook. I am going to make this for dinner. It sure looks yummy. Everything looks good. Thank You For Sharing.
I totally AGREE 💯 A husband cooking for his wife is so Sweet and loving and thoughtful 🥰🥰💕 y'all's dinner looks so delicious 😋😋Thanks for sharing🙏take care both of You 🙏
I learned this recipe of growing up with mama daddy and brothers. My husband loved it! My mother also used flour, no cornstarch cooking. I widow now, however I still break it out when I get the Taste!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🌷🌷🌷🥰🇺🇸Thanks for the memories. 66yr.
I'm glad I could bring back fond memories of your youth. This is some fine eating and simple to make. Sometimes simple is best!!! Thanks for watching and much love to you! God Bless you sweetie!!!!
My grandmother cooked for a living and started teaching my 2 siblings and I how to cook when we were in elementary school. In the Army I picked up some things especially when I was in South Korea. I also do laundry.
When I was 11 years old during the age of the dinosaurs, there was a tragic happening, and both my parents had to work to maintain our home. It was my job to make dinner for five people six days a week and take care of the household and my two brothers after school. I probably should write a cook book. One of my favorite dishes to make is veal marsala.
If you use Half and Half or heavy cream in your potatoes, your leftovers don’t get stiff in the refrigerator like they do when you use plain milk. We usually use butter, Half and Half, and sour cream.
at 67,,,,i was born and raised in Texas.....you cook just like my momma and grandmom and great aunt used to cook.....brings back wonderful memories.....thank you
You'd be better off with a good feed of spuds bacon and cabbage and a big lump of butter add a bit of extra flavour chop in a big Spanish onion .Cripes yousir you'd belch like a bull when your done
easyrider750, me too. just turned 67 - San Antonio. Miss my mother's cooking, and it was rumored her mother could turn corrugated iron into a tasty meal!
I liked it all but the onion's should have been takeen out. after they were cooked. Personally I dont like onions in my gravy other wise meal looked real good
Rob Guthery the world does suck. I can’t believe people can even say such things and feel good about themselves. Hurts my soul. I appreciate your kind words. She died two days ago and I’m going through it. But saw this video and it looked good even though I have no appetite and can’t eat. God Bless You!!
Thanks Jan, and thanks for subbing! This is my son's favorite meal and I made it again this past Thursday for his b-day! I do hope you'll give it a try! Peace to you and yours!!!
Great video. Great classic. I added onion powder to the patties too for a lil' extra flavor. I also used beef consomme' instead of water for the patties and onions to simmer in. I used flour and water to thicken the gravy and added a touch of Kitchen Bouquet for a darker and richer gravy. Loved your mashed potatoes. Tis a good soul that takes the time to whip potatoes by hand. Peace
Secret to great fluffy mashed from my Irish Dad, put a tsp or so of mayo in. He used Helmans. Cant taste it at all and will have fluffiest mashers ever.
It's 4:15 and I've been trying to come up with something for supper. Now I know, thanks to you!!! I've got to go to the store first and get ground beef. This really looked good, thanks for solving my "what's for supper dilemma"!!!😉👍
We do those up here in pennsylvania, with one difference. simmer the burgers in mushroom soup. we always serve them with mash potatoes so the mushroom gravy has double duty.
I do something similar to this, I brown my patties and sauté some bell peppers and onions then put it all back together in the skillet and add a package or two of brown gravy mix with some Worcestershire sauce (1-2 TBSP) and let it simmer till the gravy thickens and serve with rice or mashed potato's, easy dinner and it taste pretty damn good too !
The world's best mashed potatoes number one microwave your potatoes usually 3 minutes per potato so 6 potatoes would be roughly 18 minutes then run them under cold water and peel them put them in a bowl and then add one cup of instant potatoes this will add a better flavor to your mashed potatoes mix that up add one stick of butter add 1 cup butter milk salt and pepper to taste
great presentation, excellent & easy, I have been making these for a while, you may want to try using beef broth vs water for the gravy & boil the potatoes in chicken broth - That's the only thing I do different, again, this was a great presentation -
Great job, I'm gonna try your recipe. If I might add a small thought, when adding the water; a side pot of already real hot water instead of cold tap might speed up the overall process..
Dude i love all your cooking vidieos. I’m from Louisiana and live in California and use all your recipes keep it up. I’m a star out here thanks to you. Lol
They looked awesome. Troy this popped up in my suggested feed today. You probably have absolutely no idea of how encouraging and inspiring it was to watch one of your earlier videos. Thank You.
Yep, that was one of my very first videos. I'm surprised it was in your suggested video list? Maybe RUclips likes me? LOL Merry Christmas to you and the family Big Lew!!! Cheers brother!
Damn, yes differently will make this, because I cook for my Sheltie, and she will like that with the gravy minus the onions.... OMG . "SEND US MORE" and it is inexpensive.
Great video wait to come up with good ideas to cook this for my future wife someday and hope she loves my cooking haha I love to cook for my lady!? Stay frosty my friends 🤘🤘
GizmoBee1702 please tell me how it came out? I know your home smelled so good you had neighbors wondering what that amazing smell was. This man cooks food like i grew up on. Very few like this left on you tube.
Raised on a farm in Obion County, TN. Looks good my friend. Also been married for 34 years so I understand the grab and go (it's usually bacon at our house). Got my seasoned cast iron skillets and ready to go. Great video....
You doing a mighty good job there mate keep it up up your gravy looks spot on and butter is the only way forward never touched vegetable oil 10 out of 10
Not a THANG wrong with this cookin' sir! I'm a "mature" southern boy like you, been cooking 30+ years, and I make my burger steaks very similar, except I make my gravy before the burgers go back in the skillet. I make a roux first - some flour into the burger drippings with the sauteed onions, brown it gently, then add a combo of water and chicken/beef stock - sometimes a touch of red wine - bring it to temp and thicken. I season the gravy, then add back the burgers. I find the burgers help to "finish" my gravy and the gravy infuses the burgers with its flavor. Don't care much for lima beans, so I'd probably substitute green beans or turnip greens, but the bacon is a 100% MUST! (I also add a little butter to the bacon fat as it renders). Thanks for the great demonstration!
Interesting. Hamburger Steak Cali style is ground beef, bell pepper, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc. and is only ever cooked on a BBQ. Add a little onion soup mix and you have a real treat. I must try the one with gravy!
And THAT right there is a traditional southern dinner. I don't like lima beans but love great northern beans or pintos with this instead . Also i will make steamed broccoli, spinach, seasoned fresh turnip greens that have been cooking most of the day in some pork fat or as we call it fat back,or some shelled mac&cheese with either corn bread or some corn bread muffins. In the south,we usually have a big tall pitcher of sweet tea in the fridge because it is served with every meal except breakfast but there are many people who drink it with every meal. These hamburger steaks are Exactly the way i make them and mom showed me. If it wasn't for her and my late granny,i would be lost now that i'm an adult and cook my own meals.I can even bake a cake from scratch haha and THAT right there was a feat in its self but thank you granny for having patience. For an even better potato, add some minced garlic and about 1 tablespoon of sour cream or mayonnaise...try it you will love it.
Guys I'm Tennessee born and bred. I cant tell you with NO uncertainty. We do NOT boil our hamburger steaks LOL. I don't know where the idea these are southern style. We Fry em slow and make our gravy from (some) of the hamburger grease. We do the pork in the lima beans. I prefer salted fatback in my lima beans.
I'd add some dried onions flakes, steak seasonings, and diced garlic. Add some water to the pan as they cook to reduce the meat shrinking but sear the edges as soon as water cook out.
I love hamburger steaks cooked in gravy and also the green lima beans as well and having these items with cornbread and some drink you have a perfect meal. The potatoes look great also and reminds me that I need to go and buy some fresh potatoes from the store to eat in several ways.
I like seeing a man barefoot in the kitchen LOL.Thanks T-Roy we'll be having these tonight. With some pinto beans and hocks and some rice.Maybe some cabbage.
What we have here is Southern comfort food 101. Gather the family around the table and have at it. Pure enjoyment.

Now that’s a dinner I would make. Absolutely wonderful. My husband would have loved it if he were alive.
Sorry for your loss. My mom just died but she would have loved this too. And don’t pay attention to that idiot with the horrible comment.
Rob Guthery such a great person to go at that jerk for that horrible comment.
#1 Thank you! I can’t stand stupid and heartless people! This world sucks and I feel sorry for our future generation! I’m sorry about your loss!
