I spent the last 5 years traveling the world and every time I'd meet people on the road, they'd ask: "Where do you come from?". I'd always come back saying: "Lithuania", just to hear them go: "huh?"
At some point it became a little annoying to have to explain the same thing over and over and over again, so I decided to create this video where you will learn everything you need to know about Lithuania.
Hope you enjoy it!

I really hope to visit Lithuania one day, looks so amazing and beautiful place, with a lot of history, culture and cool people.
God bless everyone.
I am Chinese Indonesian and I live in Indonesia. I have a Lithuanian friend. We met at the gym. He started the chat when we were in the same jacuzzi. I asked him a very basic question "Where are you from ?". He replied "Europe". Then I asked him again "Which country ?". Then he replied "I will show you on the map later".
I didn't know why he won't tell right away. but then I realized that Lithuanians often have to explain where Lithuania is. Because the majority of people in the world don't know where it is.
I think he is tired of hearing "Lithu... what ?"
That's exactly why lol

Greetings from India.... Lithuanian language is truely ancient.... Many words in common with Sanskrit....
@ Well it is a indo-european language so this is why, it is ancient.
Yes coz we are one and the same language ;) but only we retained most of the original future of the mother language in indo-European family, Lithuania language we yet can not date it fully coz it was not written at first, but Sanskrit is the written part but the language changed to much at that time, and retained more or less same futures of the language. So Sanskrit is the worlds oldest written language and Lithuania is the oldes spoken language. Both languages have something in common. Coz in the end it was just 1 language but it spitted in 2 and Sanskrit can only tell us the story of how it evolved and we Lithuanian made less changes to our language since ++5000 years ago. But ye we are all connected. We all are the result of so many languages in indo-european family.
Many believe that Sanskrit is one of the earliest pie derivations (out of India theory).... but I think Lithuanian is older and closer to the original pie retaining many of the original features.... Sanskrit is too refined and extremely systematic.... It must have went through a lot of churning during early Vedic age in India (5000 / 2000 bc ).... The Dravidian language family is probably thousands of years older than Sanskrit....
Lithuanian has too many similar words with Sanskrit.... Also, Linthuanian Gods match with very old / forgotten hindu Gods.... Parkunas is Parjana / Indra, Dievas is Devas in Sanskrit... We must be from the same culture.... separated by thousands of years.....
@@mindatrest6838 it is fact that this language is the oldest in world... But it only was a spoken one, and wasn't written down before c, 1500 . So sadly we can not date the language. But we know that it is old, we can only speculate til now and until we find new findings. Just in 2018 we have officially got into our old gods as religion of the world. And only now you can both learn the culture and the way of the religion at school.

I just today, at 33 years of age, discovered that Lithuania wasn’t another poor struggling post Soviet Union country and wanted to learn more. Looks closer to a Scandinavian country than a ex Soviet Union nation. Beautiful.
Exactly, we are modern, well educated, clean and fresh country. Come and see this by Your self :)
Baltic but yes my people are conquers grandfather would fight the Bolsheviks in the great forest he says to me romuva watched over him and I believe it!!!
idk man I'd say most of our people have the ignorance of an ex Soviet Union nation. whenever you look at the most upvoted comment under news articles, it's usually the one hating on the government or the police with no logical basis.
Vilnius is pretty modern, if we're talking about people and cities, but others cities are a bit behind. Coming from a person who was born in the middle of Lithuania. not Vilnius.
Yes, we Lithuanians are baltics and North people, so we are really more like Scandinavians, not slavs.
Naaah, I rode lithuania many times and it looks really poor
My great grandmother immigrated to the US from Lithuania. Most of our family is named after her because she was so dearly loved by the people who knew her. Some people still approach us, long after her death, to ask to sign her book. Lithuania has always held my interest and respect. Thanks for this. Love from California.

As an Indian with undying love of dairy, I have to 100 % agree with the Lithuanian idea of sour cream everything. Go Lithuania !! Would have made me wanna visit even more if the filling in that potato stuff was vegetarian.
We do have a vegetarian option and it's filled with varškė - curd. So vegetarian AND dairy which you said you love. It's not available in every single restaurant, but you can ask for curd filling option in about 2/3 of places. With growing amount of vegetarians here, more restaurants are offering curd filling.
There are filling with mushrooms as well :)
I've been to Lithuania a few years ago, when I turned 18!
It was my first time travelling abroad without family or school, and I was really excited. I wanted to go there specifically because I had fallen in love with the voice of the singer Rasa Serra and wanted to visit the nature that inspired her.
It was an amazing trip. I had never seen such beautiful landscapes or met more welcoming people. Now, after five years of travelling solo, I still look back at that trip as my absolute favorite. Going to Lithuania really changed my life.
Lots of love from Italy 😘

Great video, Jacob. I'm 65 and American. My mom was born in Šilute in 1931. When Germany invaded in 1940, my grandfather was hearing stories about exiles to Siberia. I've never visited Mom's homeland and speak only a few words of Lithuanian, so thank you for this video telling me about Lithuania as it is today. Dievas palaimina Lietuvą!

Hello my Lithuanian friends, I'm a Lithuanian-Brazilian and my family from my father's side immigrated from Lithuania around the 1920s. I had a very good relationship with my great grandmother from Lithuania when I was a kid and she told me a lot of beautiful stories about her country (besides introducing me to the 2 things I love most in my life: Coca Cola and boiled eggs). My sister has gotten her Lithuanian passport and she's currently living in Portugal, and I hope to do the same in the near future as the situation in Brazil is not promising. 2:43 Baltic Way 1989! 30 year after the Lithuanian, in 2019 Hong Kong people followed this magnificent act to show their determination to pursue conscience, freedom and justice in their homeland. It was a display of courage to fight against the chain and shackles of the evil and hypocritic dictatorship of the Chinese Communist Party. It marked one of the people's actions in the more than 25 weeks struggle of the Anti-extradition movement, which was suppressed.
How precious is the freedom and independence of Lithuania! That is the true beauty of the country and the utmost treasure of its people! God bless Lithuania! Glory to Hong Kong!

Pretty sure Latvia's smaller than Lithuania but besides that they have the same environment. In fact Latvia has more forests than Lithuania and Lithuania has more fields but that's where the differences end. They are almost the same. Except Lithuania is older and more well known. But you can't say Latvia doesn't look the same as Lithuania because they do. Same but slightly different culture, same but ever so slightly different environment. And Lithuania is not even that small.

Labas ! I, who is an Indian living in Ireland, know so much about your country that you will be surprised. I can even introduce myself to any Lithuanian in your own language and you will go crazy as said by a Lithuanian person herself here in Ireland. When a Lithuanian woman came into my life 6.5 years before, I started learning more and more about this country and your culture. Unfortunately the girl from Siauliai, whom I gave so much, walked away with another man after a 6 years of relationship when I met with a terrible road accident and had to go through a number of surgeries. I even had to fight a severe depression and I still run through a shivering whenever I think about my past. But hey I always loved this country even though I never had been to Siauliai, Kaunas or Vilnius, even though my plans to eat Chebureki with her at the beach of Palanga never came true , even though I know many Telebimbam songs but sadly got no chance to sing for someone. :))
But I will be there in 2019 hopefully. Meanwhile labanukt.
So heart touching story. Im sure if u stay for longer time in Lithuania, ull find someone to eat čeburiekai in Palanga. Btw, despite of being popular fast food, čeburiekai, has nothing to lithuanian cousine.
Did you know Lithuanian is the oldest european language still spoken today and had close ties to ancient Indian language of sandskrit. Look it up they were in contact during the amber trade way way back in the day pre Rome
Beautiful, hope all goes well, meiles nuo Lietuvos!

I will definitely visit your beautiful, gorgeous, marvelous homeland.
Love from India 🇮🇳
Thank you for this great informative video! I am half LT and plan to visit soon in an effort to discover my roots. Trying to learn more about the homeland and a bit of the language, but not sure I'm going to get there perfectly before the trip, so please don't laugh at me. Much love and much respect to my LT brothers and sisters from the US. Aciu, ir gerai labai!
I made my first visit to Lithuania this past September and fell in love from the second I arrived in Vilnius. I was only there for a few days but I did make it up to Šiauliai to see the Hill of Crosses. The Lithuanian people were some of the nicest and most helpful people I’ve ever met and the country was absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to return and explore more, but I can definitely say my first taste of Lithuania was unforgettable
Jokūbai, esi neoficialus Lietuvos ambasadorius!
Ačiū tau!

A couple years ago I found out that my grandfather was a Lithuanian that immigrated to the states and lived in Jerome, Arizona (probably fleeing the events of WWII). I turned out to be 6% eastern European and 20% Lithuanian and that really made me want to visit! Interesting history and the country looks beautiful!
Thank you (from Lithuania)
Awesome info, thank you for sharing your country with us! My hubby's grandmother, one of 9 children, migrated from Lithuania to Canada in 1929. We went there awhile back to meet his Lithuanian relatives for the first time, those who stayed in Lithuania when his grandmother left. His grandma was raised in a little village called Zapalskiai, north east of Siauliai, before the USSR re-occupied after WW2 and destroyed the whole village, sending all its residents to work camps. It was leveled, bulldozed completely, so no one could return. I loved our visit there, we went to what used to be Zapalskiai, visited Klaipeda, went to the spit on the ferry and down to Nida, visited that castle you showed, the hill of crosses too, and spent some time in Villnius. What a beautiful country! You're right about the language, though, there are many languages from the common latin root, including the romance languages of Spanish, Italian and French, that I can just about make out - even German. But I was 100% lost with Lithuanian, due to its roots in Sanskrit. We had an amazing time, though.
Man, you are so amazing, how you presented your country. I know couple of people from there, and your "pink cold soup" is amazing. Take care. Greetings from SLOVAKIA
Pink cold soup is called " šalti barščiai " and yeah its very delicious

Love from Lithuania!
Well, you visited Bulgaria recently and I visited Lithuania in October 2018.
What can I say? I was extremely impressed and found the country so beautiful.
The things that surprised me a lot, where:
(i) How quiet and civilised the people are. No screaming on the streets and children were very well behaved with their parents. Discipline at its top. People nicely dressed. I guess this is somehow the Nordic influence.
(ii) Similar to Bulgaria, I found the tap water very tasty. I never bothered buying mineral water from the shop.
(iii) Prices. I was shocked on how expensive prices are at the supermarkets and also restaurants. We then happened to discover that the salaries in Vilnius are not very low compared to other places in Europe.
(iv) Taking the train from Vilnius to Kaunas (another delightful town, especially the athlete with the penis statue), I was so impressed with the SUPER clean railway wagons and outlets everywhere to charge your phone. Service was super punctual and the nature scenes were so great.
(v) Never in my life have I seen a city the size of Vilnius with the amount of churches in one area. They were all so glorious and beautiful. The views from the top of the hill are breathtaking.
Overall, all 3 Baltic states are quite different but maybe...maybe...Lithuania is slighly my favourite one.
Keep up the good videos and greetings from Bulgaria.
Regarding (i) - it is not the Nordic influence. Lithuania has a northern mentality. After some years of brutal occupation we returned to our way of life..

I am so glad I came to your country. I never imagined that an obscure country would be this good. People will hear a lot about your country in the future - I am sure of it.
