That's not genuine politeness in my book, because being genuinely polite means to not turn a blind eye on uncomfortable circumstances and to talk about them rather than let it slide and pretend it's okay. I think a more accurate way to describe it is being "too agreeable" or "too much of a pushover". That's different to being civil and polite - the former is cowardice and lying to oneself and others, the latter isn't. So long as you're not being malicious with abusive language and using the minimal necessary force in raising issues to discuss, that is still polite. To not do so, I would say that it's a form of impoliteness, an indirect one. In my opinion, anything that lets problems side and get worse without it being challenged, is not politeness. It's closer to cowardice disguised as (pseudo) politeness and that isn't helpful in figuring out problems.
Trust is a huge thing to me. I just don’t “trust” someone overnight. They gotta work for their supper while I’m keeping a close eye on how they chew and swallow. Been screwed over way too many times.

Honestly, I'm definitely someone who does hide things as I am a very private person nowadays compared to how I used to be. The main reason why I do this is more because I used to be a pretty open kid when I was younger, but because of that, I would have people try to take advantage of that and use the things I was open about against me or try to manipulate, which led to me having trust issues and becoming very private and hiding things out of fear that someone will try to exploit them again and use them against me. Because of that I've become much more closed off emotionally and pretty much just in general. I still had and have people that I consider friends that I would put my trust in, but not all of it. I'm overly careful these days with who I choose to put my complete trust in nowadays since I'm nervous someone is eventually going to betray it, so I still hide things out of precaution. I guess you could say I'm just paranoid at this point, but I'm still trying to get past it and try to be a bit more open again
Since paranoia is suspicion without evidence (I shortened it a little), and you've had evidence in the past that not everyone can be trusted, it sounds like you're engaging in justifiable wariness. Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it. Be safe and take care of yourself, you're worth it.
By reading your comment, I was able to relate as well... and I also believe that sometimes, when we are mistrusted in many ways, we tend to somehow "absorb" some of these characteristics, and end up showing a portrait for self protection. It's really hard and complicated...

All of my friends abandoned me in 6th grade at a time where I was getting severely bullied and they knew that. But I recovered from both and now I’m good.

I've broken a person's trust before, only once, and it haunts me everyday, partly because I know some parts of it is my fault, and mostly because I've been trying so hard not to hurt anyone, especially that person. I feel like a bad person, but I still want to at least try to make things right. I want to know how to regain the trust of the people you care about, please.
I have a friend who kind of betrayed my trust... But I have another connection in my life that went above and beyond that. I told my friend what happened and I'm pretty sure what they did haunts them a bit too. To make up for it, I guess, and just because this person is a genuinely good friend, they comforted me at my worst and stood for me as a reminder that I was not alone. That I was worth something. They helped me remember who I was at a time when that was hard to do. It was super helpful and I don't think I would have been able to heal as quickly without them. Just give this person time. It's possible for them to forgive you, as you've seen, and for you to have a beautiful friendship.

Eh i think people go too far with "trust your gut", ill say sometimes yes others no ... like you can have a bad feeling. Doesnt mean youd be correct in how you respond to that feeling. But same time if its a gut feeling paired with a similar experience youve already had sure go ahead. Itll spare you from having to overthink every other time. If its a new situation id just ride out the problem and think before cuz its important you are aware and know to avoid future issues the next time something similar happens

In my own perspective, the reason why I don’t really like talking about stuff in my life even if I am talk to my family or close friends is that I don’t want people to be bothered because of me. Yes, I know I might sound pretty selfish because I don’t open up about my things in life. For months I always have the thought “ if I cause this problem, this is my problem and I don’t need anyone to be involved in it” Sometimes, we all can agree to this ‘thought’ or ‘statement’ but I always use this to myself in order to stop myself from telling people how I really feel. I know that this is a really unhealthy behavior of mine so I’m trying my best to be more better about myself and that it’s okay not to be okay. If your also a person who is struggling the same way as I am, I know that it’s hard but you don’t have to keep it to yourself. Be open sometimes. ( I always tell myself this now a days ) and if people can’t accept the fact that your hurting, cut ends with them. They don’t deserve you because you deserve better. I used to be friends with a girl. She wasn’t a very good influence on me and that’s kinda how our friendship broke apart.. she used to say she was calm and polite but she really wasn’t. Every time we got into a small disagreement (as all friends do at times) she’s say she wanted to die and that I was the only thing keeping her alive. I knew this was a lie because she only did this when we were in a disagreement. I have a twin sister and I am very protective over her because she is shy and she hates speaking out. Finally got out of a toxic friendship recently. It was as if everything I gave was never good enough and always wanted more even though he was still never satisfied. Could never approach him about simple things because he would always get too defensive and take it as an attack. Looking back now, all of these signs- I mean every single one of them- hit the nail on the head.
I've been betrayed so many times and it's always the people you would least expect ,this last time I was betrayed were by the 2 people I thought had my back and I had their's, my ex friends hid the fact that they discussed an issue over a guy from 7 years ago and friend A decided I had purposely flirted or acted seductively towards her bf 7 years ago even though that wasnt true and was never my intention if she felt that way, and back then she and I talked about that issue when it happened and I thought we had squashed that issue and moved on and remained good friends. Now fast forward 7 years later friends A told friend B my apology was BS to her and I'm so self absorbed and have always remained the same mind you friend B never shared this info with me. The way I came to know about it was a complete suprise we all picked a day to hang out and on that day I noticed something was up but couldn't put my finger on it due to the fact that I hadn't seen either of them in months. Couple days later I ask them to meet up again and I give friend A a call to ask her what was up and she was behaving so catty and passive aggressive towards me, which she proceeded to tell me that she couldn't believe I was so self absorbed in not knowing why she was so upset with me and that I should know why she was upset. Mind you I had know idea what she was talking about. I call up friend B and ask if she knew something she said yes but was not going to tell me as it wasnt her place and goes on apologizing as to why things weren't brought up or spoken about sooner. Anyways this didnt end well because I was not going to admit something I never did and friend A had already been in a new relationship for years , I didnt know how she really felt and I was not going to kiss and apologize again and friend B well she sided with friend A and both of them haven't spoken to me since and well it was hard throwing away 16 years of friendship but it just goes to show you dont really know people
Psych2Go So I talked to one of his friends outside of school and I asked him why he had been acting pretty sketchy over the past week and the guy told me some things about him that I didn’t know And then I stayed quiet for the rest of the year but now I’m fine
I usually tell people my birthday falls on Feb 30. Quite a few don't pay that any mind since its a question through small talk. Those that catches on during the question, then I tell them it's actually April 31 because that makes it more believable. ☝🏻🙂

She called Baileys parents then when she was in the wrong Bailey tried to say I lied. Bailyey overall wasn't trust worthy I told them I liked someone then they threatened me that they would tell everyone I liked somebody and their name if i didnt do something for them. I didn't do it in the end lucky they didnt tell
People rarely change. If they have lied to you or behaved poorly, they are most likely to do it again. There are always exceptions, but I have found them to be really really rare!

Absolutely there's someone I can trust out there. It's not even difficult.. I've found that it comes so natural when they understand how vitally important it is(TRUST).. it's absolutely everything.. the foundation of trust is right where an amazing relationship begins.. from that everything becomes worth fighting for.. no matter what it takes or how long it might be..it's worth every single bit of it.
The part about not being self-aware is serious. I've met people who proudly say they never lie...and then I catch them in a lie five minutes later. They'll say, if given a hypothetical situation, that they would do the right thing. But every other action I've seen them do is sneaky & self-serving. It can be hard - even painful - to see ourselves for who we actually are. Most people just see what they want to see.
I'm unpredictable by nature because I'm so impulsive. It's what charms people to me but no one ever feels like they can depend on me or trust me, even after I show them how much of a hard worker I am. I'm used to keeping people at a distance myself because people keep me at arms length too. So, it's mutual, I guess.

Biggest sign, they talk about other people behind their backs with you. Never be fooled into thinking they're not also talking about you behind yours.
In my own perspective, the reason why I don’t really like talking about stuff in my life even if I am talk to my family or close friends is that I don’t want people to be bothered because of me. Yes, I know I might sound pretty selfish because I don’t open up about my things in life.
For months I always have the thought “ if I cause this problem, this is my problem and I don’t need anyone to be involved in it”
Sometimes, we all can agree to this ‘thought’ or ‘statement’ but I always use this to myself in order to stop myself from telling people how I really feel.
I know that this is a really unhealthy behavior of mine so I’m trying my best to be more better about myself and that it’s okay not to be okay.
If your also a person who is struggling the same way as I am, I know that it’s hard but you don’t have to keep it to yourself. Be open sometimes. ( I always tell myself this now a days ) and if people can’t accept the fact that your hurting, cut ends with them. They don’t deserve you because you deserve better. Love yourself for who you are and not for what people think of you. Be the person you can always depend on not only others but also yourself.

I used to be friends with a girl. She wasn’t a very good influence on me and that’s kinda how our friendship broke apart.. she used to say she was calm and polite but she really wasn’t. Every time we got into a small disagreement (as all friends do at times) she’s say she wanted to die and that I was the only thing keeping her alive. I knew this was a lie because she only did this when we were in a disagreement. I have a twin sister and I am very protective over her because she is shy and she hates speaking out. My friend used to hang out with people online that would make fun of her.. I still miss my friend at times but I think I made a good decision cutting ties with her

I disagree with one point. ‘They hide things about themselves’ doesn’t mean they want to hide things about others. Some people are very private about their lives and have major troubles opening up to someone. This doesn’t mean that they are likely to break others’ trust. Since, they know exactly how difficult it is to open up to others and breaking someone’s trust intentionally doesn’t make them a good person. So yes not all secretive people are bad

Finally got out of a toxic friendship recently. It was as if everything I gave was never good enough and always wanted more even though he was still never satisfied. Could never approach him about simple things because he would always get too defensive and take it as an attack. I've been betrayed so many times and it's always the people you would least expect ,this last time I was betrayed were by the 2 people I thought had my back and I had their's, my ex friends hid the fact that they discussed an issue over a guy from 7 years ago and friend A decided I had purposely flirted or acted seductively towards her bf 7 years ago even though that wasnt true and was never my intention if she felt that way, and back then she and I talked about that issue when it happened and I thought we had squashed that issue and moved on and remained good friends. Now fast forward 7 years later friends A told friend B my apology was BS to her and I'm so self absorbed and have always remained the same mind you friend B never shared this info with me. The way I came to know about it was a complete suprise we all picked a day to hang out and on that day I noticed something was up but couldn't put my finger on it due to the fact that I hadn't seen either of them in months. Couple days later I ask them to meet up again and I give friend A a call to ask her what was up and she was behaving so catty and passive aggressive towards me, which she proceeded to tell me that she couldn't believe I was so self absorbed in not knowing why she was so upset with me and that I should know why she was upset. Mind you I had know idea what she was talking about. I call up friend B and ask if she knew something she said yes but was not going to tell me as it wasnt her place and goes on apologizing as to why things weren't brought up or spoken about sooner. Anyways this didnt end well because I was not going to admit something I never did and friend A had already been in a new relationship for years , I didnt know how she really felt and I was not going to kiss and apologize again and friend B well she sided with friend A and both of them haven't spoken to me since and well it was hard throwing away 16 years of friendship but it just goes to show you dont really know people

Psych2Go So I talked to one of his friends outside of school and I asked him why he had been acting pretty sketchy over the past week and the guy told me some things about him that I didn’t know And then I stayed quiet for the rest of the year but now I’m fine
I usually tell people my birthday falls on Feb 30. Quite a few don't pay that any mind since its a question through small talk. Those that catches on during the question, then I tell them it's actually April 31 because that makes it more believable. ☝🏻🙂

Bailey often guilt tripped me, once she choked me then I told my parents. She called Baileys parents then when she was in the wrong Bailey tried to say I lied. Bailyey overall wasn't trust worthy I told them I liked someone then they threatened me that they would tell everyone I liked somebody and their name if i didnt do something for them. I didn't do it in the end lucky they didnt tell

People rarely change. If they have lied to you or behaved poorly, they are most likely to do it again. There are always exceptions, but I have found them to be really really rare!

2 of my closest friends have betrayed me. It is absolutely true that betrayal will haunt you for years. It's one of the worste pains I have ever felt.

I've found that it comes so natural when they understand how vitally important it is(TRUST).. it's absolutely everything.. the foundation of trust is right where an amazing relationship begins.. from that everything becomes worth fighting for.. no matter what it takes or how long it might be..it's worth every single bit of it.

The part about not being self-aware is serious. I've met people who proudly say they never lie...and then I catch them in a lie five minutes later. They'll say, if given a hypothetical situation, that they would do the right thing. But every other action I've seen them do is sneaky & self-serving. It can be hard - even painful - to see ourselves for who we actually are. Most people just see what they want to see.

I'm unpredictable by nature because I'm so impulsive. It's what charms people to me but no one ever feels like they can depend on me or trust me, even after I show them how much of a hard worker I am.
