As much as I understand and respect Peter's practicality, if falling in love and getting engaged is something he needs an ample amount of time to do, then he shouldn't have signed up for a show where the time-span to do those things is squished into a few weeks. Has any bachelorette ever gone through this process and left without an engagement at the end of it? Rachel is a treasure of a woman, and I don't think it's fair for her, as the first black bachelorette, to have to beg for a tangible commitment from Peter. Maybe they could compromise and have a long engagement (like Shawn and Kaitlyn)? This is Rachel's journey. If Peter can't give her what she desires right now, then as handsome as he is, and as beautiful as they would be together, this isn't what's best for either of them.

This show is about getting engaged at the end, if you know the time frame is something you aren't ready for why on earth would you go on the show. I have to agree with Peter here...."An engagement means we are getting married, we just need to pick a time." That is EXACTLY what engagement is. It isn't just some stepping stone to "cultivate" a relationship or a word to toss around. The relationship should already be cultivated before an engagement. I understand Rachel's views, but I just believe an engagement is a serious matter. If you are just using it to continue seeing if you are the right fit with your partner, then you should just stay dating. No need to rush something so serious until you are sure and 100% committed.

Peter talking about engagements take time, but also told the story of his parents getting engaged after a month. If the feelings are there it can happen in this time frame on the Bachelor. Like I've said before, Peter just isn't into Rachel.
Whatever. Peter knew what show he was going on. Every Bachelorette has been proposed to at the end. Some make it some don't, but if Peter saw Rachel as his possible wife in the future, he would propose. That's what I believe Rachel believes.
I think this is editing. They edited Bryan to look like he excused himself from the table to avoid answering a tough question, when in fact he got up to go to a planned meeting with Rachel's father in the house. If Rachel just wanted a ring and a meaningless engagement, I doubt she would have had to come on this show and upend her life to get that. She sounded to me like she was trying to give Peter a chance to believe that it would be okay to propose to her because they would still have time to get to know each other after the engagement and wouldn't have to be setting a wedding date and sending out wedding invitations a month after the engagement.

If Rachel wants to be engaged only ONCE, you would think that she would want to cultivate a COMMITMENT FIRST and then an engagement and, eventually a marriage. Peter is scared of making a commitment. That's the same thing he did to his ex girlfriend and then he regretted. Jahaira, if Rachel ends up picking Bryan, it will be because Peter pushed her into Bryan's arms. As much as Bryan is pursuing her, you can see that Rachel actually prefers Peter, but Peter isn't giving her enough to work with. Rachel always has to be the one chasing Peter, Peter doesn't chase her or initiate, and that's not a good sign.
Both Rachel and Peter loved each other, but they simply didn't have the same opinions and ideals about the future and what engagement means to them. For couples, it's so important to talk about things like this so that they know where they stand on certain things. My parents, who have been married for 30 years, said that you have to plan. Because there are a lot of marriages that split due to the lack of communication and planning for the future. It's good that they discussed these little things before going all the way. I very much respect them both and hope they are happy in the end.
The editors have done nothing but use the show to PROMOTE Peter. Thank goodness both Rachel and Bryan are confident enough or they will need to be to endure the skewed editing of their story.. I believe she chooses Bryan but I also believe that if Peter had shown her his interest in her in a more demonstrative way, Rachel would have had a more difficult decision to make. Peter is making it easier for her by using his OWN CHARMS and good looks to his cool, calm and collected advantage. He has just sat back while Rachel pursued him ad he received her desire and interest in him. He worked very little to win her while Bryan worked his but off to win her heart since he wanted her before he even got to the show and he had no idea what kind of competition he would have. He was a man with a made up mind that Rachel was going to be his woman and thats why I believe he came on so demonstratively strong and confident. That was his way to fight for her!
That's the main problem with this relationship and how it evolved through the show. . Rachel was too obviously into Peter and he knew it from day 1. She almost behaved like a teenage girl next to him which only comforted him without challenginh him into pursuing her and show her how much he wanted to build something with her. He's also the guy she was almost always begging to kiss her. However when the guy she was in school with politely asked if he could kiss her, she made a big deal out of it as if it was a proof of his immaturity whatsoever. I think he ended up developping genuine feeling for her but had she left him more space to come to her rather than the opposite, maybe he would have had to work more to get her and be more on synch woth what he truly wanted. Basically ot kinda went from you dont have to do anything and make any effort because I'm in charge, to you need to sacrifice your "values" for this lady you've just met and make a serious decision now. Talk about a roller-coaster.

It’s so weird. Getting engaged at the end of this show. Even when it works out, as it did for Rachel. On one hand, yes...it’s the premise of the show. So in that regard, yes, it’s odd when the male contestants have all these hesitancies. But in real life...away from this ridiculous show...Peter’s opinion is the normal, healthy opinion. If I had a friend in real life say that she had been on like five dates with a guy and was getting engaged in order to see what could happen and where it would go.... ...I would tell her she’s nuts. That’s literally what this is, but with cameras and an audience hypnotized into thinking it’s healthy.

Peter should firmly ask Rachel "How do you feel about me at this point of time?" " Where do you see our relationship will lead to?" "How do I know whether you will say the same things to the other two guys?" Yes, she does know what she wants but with which guy?? That is why any sensible guys if being put into that kind of situation will not say those lovely things or empty promises, what if things didn't workout that way it should be and of course no one wants to be hurt and feel humiliated in the public eyes . Like previous Bachelor and Bachelorette episodes the final 2 always ended up one will hurt so badly because of he or she thrown themselves or invested so much love, in the end not being chosen. I agree with peters definition of an engagement 100% (=time between announcement of getting married to actual date of wedding). If Rachel picks Bryan in the end (which I think she will), it will be because she and Peter couldn't get on the same page about this. Clearly she's falling hard for him, or he wouldn't still be there. I just hope she doesn't put the proposal and the ring above finding the right guy. If she is actually with Bryan they both should be mad about how their relationship has been shown, because their love story is not what is unraveling before us. It's Rachel and Peter's. Rachel should be bracing herself for the reaction if she does pick Bryan. If she's expecting people to just jump on board with it, I think she's really mistaken and production will be to blame. The editing this season has been a complete mess. Rachel says that this was heavily edited to the point of not portraying what she was really saying. I hope we get clarity about what engagement is to her during the finale, because in what we've seen it sounds like she's describing dating with a ring. Engagement is supposed to be enough time to plan the wedding, typically 6 months to a year, tops. I totally understand where Peter is coming from, I'm anxious to see the rest of the conversation. Again, I just hope Rachel does not let the expectations of this process keep her from the one she's supposed to be with.

I remember on mesnicks season the lady he proposed to was so furious because he took that away from her no one wants to be engaged then it taken back. Same with nick when he proposed to Kaitlyn she took that away from him. Okay, so for all of you saying that Peter shouldn't have gone on the show if he knew what he was getting into, here's the thing: He KNEW what he was getting himself into, he OPENED HIMSELF UP TO THE PROCESS, and only later realized that it wasn't something that would work for him which is why I don't think it was fair of Rachel to say he was "stringing her along." Peter made it very clear that he wasn't sure if he would propose fairly early on and as soon as he had real reservations, he said he would let her know, which he did.

I think this is editing. They edited Bryan to look like he excused himself from the table to avoid answering a tough question, when in fact he got up to go to a planned meeting with Rachel's father in the house. If Rachel just wanted a ring and a meaningless engagement, I doubt she would have had to come on this show and upend her life to get that. She sounded to me like she was trying to give Peter a chance to believe that it would be okay to propose to her because they would still have time to get to know each other after the engagement and wouldn't have to be setting a wedding date and sending out wedding invitations a month after the engagement.

I can't fathom "getting down on one knee", just to "see where this goes", simply because I want an "engagement", that may or may NOT last, at the end of this journey. If Rachel wants to be engaged only ONCE, you would think that she would want to cultivate a COMMITMENT FIRST and then an engagement and, eventually a marriage. Nah, but really. All the couples in this franchise are in a bubble and rarely ever think outside of it. That's why the majority of them don't work out. I honestly believe Peter is in love with her which is why he doesn't opt himself out and joined the show because he was genuinely looking for love. As much as Bryan is pursuing her, you can see that Rachel actually prefers Peter, but Peter isn't giving her enough to work with. Both Rachel and Peter loved each other, but they simply didn't have the same opinions and ideals about the future and what engagement means to them. For couples, it's so important to talk about things like this so that they know where they stand on certain things. My parents, who have been married for 30 years, said that you have to plan. Because there are a lot of marriages that split due to the lack of communication and planning for the future. It's good that they discussed these little things before going all the way. I very much respect them both and hope they are happy in the end.
The editors have done nothing but use the show to PROMOTE Peter. Thank goodness both Rachel and Bryan are confident enough or they will need to be to endure the skewed editing of their story.. I believe she chooses Bryan but I also believe that if Peter had shown her his interest in her in a more demonstrative way, Rachel would have had a more difficult decision to make. Peter is making it easier for her by using his OWN CHARMS and good looks to his cool, calm and collected advantage. He has just sat back while Rachel pursued him ad he received her desire and interest in him. He worked very little to win her while Bryan worked his but off to win her heart since he wanted her before he even got to the show and he had no idea what kind of competition he would have. He was a man with a made up mind that Rachel was going to be his woman and thats why I believe he came on so demonstratively strong and confident. That was his way to fight for her!
That's the main problem with this relationship and how it evolved through the show. . Rachel was too obviously into Peter and he knew it from day 1. She almost behaved like a teenage girl next to him which only comforted him without challenginh him into pursuing her and show her how much he wanted to build something with her. He's also the guy she was almost always begging to kiss her. However when the guy she was in school with politely asked if he could kiss her, she made a big deal out of it as if it was a proof of his immaturity whatsoever.
I think he ended up developping genuine feeling for her but had she left him more space to come to her rather than the opposite, maybe he would have had to work more to get her and be more on synch woth what he truly wanted.

Claudine St Louis he did say he was "falling in love" but he didn't say he was in love. Both eric and bryan have said there in love not falling in love so idk. I thought it was a bit suspicious how he said it right before meeting her family.
All these emotions I'm feeling after this damn episode is literally going to have me in a psych ward rocking back and forward like, "she should choose Peter, but what if he doesn't propose iddly diddly."

When Rachel and Brian wore the matching watch in front of Peter and Eric, he saw the writing on the wall and pulled away. Eric saw it too.
Peter should firmly ask Rachel "How do you feel about me at this point of time?" " Where do you see our relationship will lead to?" "How do I know whether you will say the same things to the other two guys?" Yes, she does know what she wants but with which guy?? That is why any sensible guys if being put into that kind of situation will not say those lovely things or empty promises, what if things didn't workout that way it should be and of course no one wants to be hurt and feel humiliated in the public eyes . Like previous Bachelor and Bachelorette episodes the final 2 always ended up one will hurt so badly because of he or she thrown themselves or invested so much love, in the end not being chosen. Rachel is not giving him a slightest hint or sign that is why he is still skeptical and that is nothing wrong to feel that way.

I'm on Team Peter and Eric. Part of me gives props to Peter for being the one logical dude ever. But then again, like bro, nothing is logical about this show. She dates like 30 men and comes back with one in only 9weeks. She wants to be engaged and this will be a deal breaker. I see his perspective, like it's 9 weeks, to engaged in 9 weeks is a lot. He only wants to get engaged/married once, and wants to get to know her more before he ties the knot. But Bryan was ready and Peter would've gotten the final rose, if he gave her reassurance that he would propose. But Bryan was just ready. I am still on team Peter and Eric

Peter you are slowly becoming sleek and you playing your cards right i see... I get his hesitation and all but i have this funny feeling he will accept the position of the bachelor if given to him! He is playing with her, probably noticed at some point her connection with Bryan and got his walls up, but for him to say this process is too fast....hmm(raises eyebrows) liar. HE is trying to win the people at home and end up being the bachelor! if that wasn't his aim to begin with.. Don't get me wrong i was the biggest Peter fan but his flip flopping is irritating and looks very disingenuous..

Ugh.. This gave me a headache while watching this scene.. This really is a big issue and a deal breaker in a lot of relationships... They both only want to be married once, but she is saying it's possible that after getting engaged that it's just the next step to see if it will work out and marriage might not happen... and he's saying that engagement means you are already committed to getting married and that is how I feel about it too. That's tough man... 😳 I hope they worked it out bc he seems to be a really good guy but if not then its for the best.

I agree with peters definition of an engagement 100% (=time between announcement of getting married to actual date of wedding). Whereas Rachel's definition of engagement is basically dating with hopes of getting married one day.. having said that, although i agree with peter, i don't believe he's into her 💯 and if he's not feeling it now I don't think he ever will. He might still turn around we'll see..
This is why you don't marry after 3 months,shes getting a divorce now. Some get lucky and it works, but,you should never rush a marriage,but,also don't wait to long either or one may leave,of they truly want a spouse.

i think if you do get engaged, then yes, it should mean that you made a decision that you want to spend the rest of your life with that person, not just cultivate a relationship, otherwise getting engaged is meaningless & it's just boyfriend/girlfriend or a committed, monogamous relationship, ,i agree, yes, you don't have to set the date tomorrow to get married, but the decision to be engaged should be that you want to be married to that person, and the only thing left to do, is to set the date to get married, agree with peter on this point, but rachel is also contradicting herself, she wants an engagement, but not just a boyfriend, but yet that's how she is treating it
If Rachel picks Bryan in the end (which I think she will), it will be because she and Peter couldn't get on the same page about this. Clearly she's falling hard for him, or he wouldn't still be there. I just hope she doesn't put the proposal and the ring above finding the right guy. If she is actually with Bryan they both should be mad about how their relationship has been shown, because their love story is not what is unraveling before us. It's Rachel and Peter's. Rachel should be bracing herself for the reaction if she does pick Bryan. If she's expecting people to just jump on board with it, I think she's really mistaken and production will be to blame. The editing this season has been a complete mess. Rachel says that this was heavily edited to the point of not portraying what she was really saying. I hope we get clarity about what engagement is to her during the finale, because in what we've seen it sounds like she's describing dating with a ring. Engagement is supposed to be enough time to plan the wedding, typically 6 months to a year, tops. I totally understand where Peter is coming from, I'm anxious to see the rest of the conversation. Again, I just hope Rachel does not let the expectations of this process keep her from the one she's supposed to be with.

I remember on mesnicks season the lady he proposed to was so furious because he took that away from her no one wants to be engaged then it taken back. Same with nick when he proposed to Kaitlyn she took that away from him. Peter is wise in standing by his convictions a proposal shouldn't be about let's get engaged and see what happens when you get engaged that means you love each other so much you can get married the next day. When my hubb proposed we got married in 5 months. None of this lets get to know each other let's see how it goes. Engagement means marriage I agree with Peter. She and other are dipping the bachelorette cool aid that is not real life. I admire his realism.

Okay, so for all of you saying that Peter shouldn't have gone on the show if he knew what he was getting into, here's the thing: He KNEW what he was getting himself into, he OPENED HIMSELF UP TO THE PROCESS, and only later realized that it wasn't something that would work for him which is why I don't think it was fair of Rachel to say he was "stringing her along." Peter made it very clear that he wasn't sure if he would propose fairly early on and as soon as he had real reservations, he said he would let her know, which he did.

If peter knew he'd have reservations then he should've never participated given that a proposal and a fairytale unrealistic romance is the theme of the show. I feel Rachel is basically stating that she wants a boyfriend who'll commit to marriage but she also wants a ring in the end so that she doesn't look bad on national television. I mean all the other bachelorettes got it so she wants it too and that's fair but she's focusing too much on that instead of the relationship.
