    Finally a review about something performance related. Thank you!

  • @Rcschim
    @Rcschim Год назад +2

    If we ues circpol antennas on Gv2 we should actually see an increase in RF performance - since we now know the O3 antenna is linear (bardwell with info from Hugo Truerc yesterday).
    Do you know if the O3 would do diversity if it had 2x 5.8 antennas? or is the 2nd antennaport really only for 2.4ghz if needed for RC link?
    On my longrange rig (Foxeer Aura7) I'm about to swap the original short O3 ant, to 2 TrcSingularity antennas.

    • @Mangorille
      @Mangorille  Год назад +2

      Ya I saw that on JB's stream... My testing was with the Goggles 2 so it should actually have worse performance considering that the goggles have linear antenna and now the air unit has a LHCP.
      I've tried the single 5.8 ghz antenna on both the ANT0 and ANT1 connectors, the experience is the same from a mbps perspective. I suspect it uses both of those connectors for diversity and does not base it on one being 2.4 and the other being 5.8. Let me know what you experience is with 2 TrueRC Singularity antennas, for me, at that point the weight savings is gone and you might as well stick with the stock antenna.

    Any radio device that transmits data needs an antenna connected to it or you risk damaging the transmitter.
    Antennas act as a resistive load on the circuit of the transmitter. The transmitter pumps out a certain amount of power to the connector, whether there's an antenna or not. Without an antenna the power will simply jump back to the other side of the connector and be allowed to flow back into the device. The best thing to do if you only want one antenna is to connect some sort of resistive load dummy to the empty antenna connector.
    In practice, it may never end up being a problem, but I wouldn't risk it.

    • @Mangorille
      @Mangorille  Год назад +2

      Completely agree, but I've also heard that digital transmitters are less susceptible to this. I'll be the guinea pig here and see what happens. The O3 is still working well in this setup.

  • @ricyjo
    @ricyjo Год назад

    Transmitting RF devices are not aware of LHCP or RHCP ...they just transmit. The air units can't selectively choose which polarization to transmit with (only frequency)... so the O3 antenna must support both for reception purposes only IF it indeed supports both polarizations.

    • @Mangorille
      @Mangorille  Год назад

      Agree, the transmitter wouldn't care but wouldn't the receiver (goggles) also need to have both polarization? I know the V2 doesn't.

      I’m sure there’s a trade off here, otherwise DJI wouldn’t have gone through the trouble and cost of the two antenna connectors. If you want the best penetration, I’d keep the original antenna on the air unit.

    Heyo Mangorille. Do you have any updates to doing this? I am considering using a RHCP and LHCP Singularity for my FPV wing for mounting location reasons. Using The Goggles 2, and not using a DJI controller.

    Fascinating. I have a weird idea. I thought I heard something that the DJI 03 antenna was both RCP & LCP on the same antenna. I wonder how 2 of those True RC singularity's would perform with the 03 Air unit? one with LCP and the other with LCP.

    • @Mangorille
      @Mangorille  Год назад

      Ya I heard the same. The stock antenna is supposed to be dual band and dual polarization. If you’re going to run two separate antennas then it negates the weight savings.

      This is interesting for folks with a V2, don’t think that has dual polarized antennas. On my V2 I’m running 5.8 singularity antennas. Perhaps this is why I experienced better reception on the Goggles 2 vs V2.

    So for this 5.8 antenna to work correctly 100% of the time you have to chose channel manually so it wont auto switch to 2.4 ?

    • @Mangorille
      @Mangorille  Год назад

      I understand that the video transmission is on 5.8 ghz. It’s the DJI remote that uses both 5.8 and 2.4. Good idea to set this to manual and 5.8 if you are using the DJI remote but you’ll need to test.
