Hi Everyone, there are 2 things I forgot to add to this video, very frustrated now. 1: Goggles 2 and Integra Antennas - These googles have 4 antennas in total, 2 internal ones that are receive only, 2 external ones that are transmit. All 4 antennas can receive but only the 2 external ones can transmit to the Air Unit. The benefit of upgrading the internal antennas is going to be marginal. 2: There are antenna adapters from Lumenier for the DJI Goggles 2 that allow you to use any antennas you like, here is a link to these below Lumenier Adapters For Goggles 2 Un The USA - www.getfpv.com/lumenier-universal-antenna-adapter-kit-for-dji-goggles-2.html Thanks to everyone who reminded me of these. Hi! Huge thanks for your Videos! When using Crossfire, would it make sense to use 2x 5ghz antennas on the at unit? If yes, which one would you recommend for long range? Thanks a lot!!!
Actually, the FPV Remote Controller 2 is also dual band, but it's usually only 5.8 GHz which isn't a problem because of its massive 1.4W transmit power.
Yes it’s dual band and it uses both 2.4 and 5ghz. What I said was if you don’t use the DJI remote the system will stay on 5ghz. With using O3 with the remote V2 it will jump between 2.4 and 5ghz as it sees fit. It’s uses both bands and is not just 5ghz.
I was hoping you'd figured out which antenna do which on the G2 (like the V2) but I saw no mention of it. On my G2, I have a double Axii on the right and a Quadro Patch on the left (LHCP). When I switch them around, the patch performs much worse on the right, so I'm thinking it's something like the V2 where each of the 4 antenna do different things and you should have certain antennas on certain sides like the V2. I'm also wondering if you take apart the G2 and replace the internals with CP antennas as well, if you'd get even better performance.
@@MadRC I still understand little about the OFDM/SDR that ocusync uses, but I wonder if you replace the internals with 5.8 as well and have NO 2.4 at all, if that would affect the system, in case it uses 2.4 to communicate regarding video transmission (retransmit requests etc).
My Chimera 7 keeps failsafing when I turn around to come back, usually around 5-6 kms out. Any idea what would cause this? Is it an antenna problem? Flying TBS Crossfire. Happens every time. Nothing is blocking line of sight. The antennas on the quad and on my goggles are all LHCP.
I had that on 2 of my quad, both of them had the antenna mounted on the back. When I used a longer antenna it was much better, but only really got over the problem when I used a long antenna mounted on the side so the same amount of antenna was visable when facing towards me and away. It is really a problem with the O3 standard antenna as it is so short. Take a shot each time the word "antenna" is used.
@@Schippmeester thanks for the answer. "Only the DJI FpV remote 2" means i can not use any other controller? Or does it mean i can use those crossfire or elrs controllers?
You are advice strongly against the DJI Controller 2 but I thought you said in an earlier Video that the signal loss issues have been resolved? Any other quirks to know about?
There is still quirks with its overall behaviour in signal loss. It’s better than it was with the stuttering fixed but it’s still far from being the same as a normal remote system. My advise is always to use an independent RC link. If your just park flying it’s fine but if your doing anything where you need to rely on failsafe I don’t recommend you use it.
As always, excellent and informative video! I have a quick Q: I lost one of my iflight evoque v2 antennas(same quad as your on the bench in this video 6S version) I ordered following. Will they work ok? “FlyFishRC 2pcs 60mm Osprey 5.8GHz LHCP RP-SMA Antennas 2.82dBi FPV HD Racing Drone Quad Antenna” Thanks so much 🙏🏽 Keep up the great work! Brent.
the cap of my Air unit O3 antenna fell of after a crash today, i dont know how to put it back on, i dont know how to properly install it back, can someone help me with this please?
I'm planning to add two SMA connectors to the Crossfire quad with O3. If I understood the video correctly I can put two SMA LHCP 5 GHz antennas (like from Vista times) and it should work fine, right? I'm also wondering what if drone will have one LHCP 5 GHz and second RHCP 5 GHz antenna. Will it work better as quad's O3 will not interfeere with itself?
I have an o3 air unit on a chimera 7 pro v2 with the dji goggles 2. It has 2 o3 antennas. Ive noticed that I cannot go that far before the signal drops super fast between the goggles and drone. Could this mean that one of the antennas on my drone is broken? Or would the o3 unit have shorted if it was running off one antenna only?
Still suprised that there is no real aftermarket patch antenna / long range antenna set with a good formfactor like the iflight crystal or Lumenier AXII HD.
Yea it’s funny no one made anything for the G2 either really. Other than truerc modifying their Xair. It just goes to show how massive the V2 and the V1 goggles were to FPV.
Not sure if you said anything about them or not, but Lumenier has the adapter for the goggles 2 that goes from the MCX to either SMA or RP-SMA so you can use extended onmi's to get the antenna away from your head. I just purchased them and still awaiting them in the mail so I can't speak on the performance of them just yet. Cheers Mate 🍻
Do the Goggles or O3 AU still emit 2.4ghz signal occasionally even when not using the remote? I've had a few ELRS issues lately, but only when other pilots with O3 stuff were around 🙄
We can’t be 100% sure but Iv not observed it. Nothing I have done on all my testing had got it into 2.4 mode with out the remote but that’s not to say their is not a scenario where it’s possible. But it’s not remotely the same as it is with the DJI remote.
@@MadRC Alright thanks! Could be just a coincidence on my end of course, (un)fortunately none of my usual flying buddies have O3 to test 😅I was thinking of a scan of some sort
I feel like I made a mistake when I went for the Integra Goggles. It’s a shame DJI makes this confusing. Last night I broke my stock DJI antenna for the second time and replaced it with two LHCP 5.8Gh antennas. I love that they screw in instead of me needing to improvise with heat shrink to get it to stay put. I’m just hoping my range will be unaffected. I’m really banking on the part of the video that says despite losing a bit from the LHCP/linear penalty, the two 5.8’s together may create a net quality increase.
I thought those dji antennas were 90 degree cross polarization. I think cross is a cool idea since you’re only ever 45 off linear signal and don’t worry about reflections and left vs right.
Is there any particular reason why Evoque V2 has crossfire/elrs receiver on the front of quad or it is just because there is no place at the back? I want to install ELRS and I was told it might decrease link quality of ELRS if I put it close to O3 unit. True?
Crossfire or 900mhz specifically can be affected by O3 or affect O3 and there should be a little separation, this is actually the same for avatar as well.
No idea how ppl have no trust in the rc2 . I can't get mine to fail-safe. 300m away sheds-sea containers, trees and elevation changes in the way video sitting on 1 or 2mbs the radio link still 2bars. Basically I've used video range to its Max capacity.
There was an issue where if you lose video, you lose control link also which is very bad. Supposedly they fixed that, but lost trust is hard to regain.
Where is your source that the antennas used by the V2 goggles are linear? Every replacement or "enhancement" on amazon is LHCP. In addition, basically every forum post I've read also says the same thing. My understanding based on the design of the O3 air unit suggests they are cross-polarized LHCP and RHCP. This is a new design compared to the older vista/air units which were straight LHCP. If these were linear antennas, especially on the O3 unit itself, they'd look quite a lot different. For one thing you'd see two antennas perpendicular to each other, not a cherry or something. Plus circular polarization works better for something like a quad where the attitude of the craft constantly changes. If somebody took apart these antennas they'd learn pretty quick what is going on inside... Using a linear antenna paired with a circular polarized antenna will lead to a non-trivial signal loss. It would be nice if DJI provided more information.
The source for the DJI antennas being linear is their own FCC certification documentation. This is why the V1 antennas have 2 notches. And the V2 have 3 to show the difference, they have also been torn down and checked I side. As for O3 again the FCC docs and Hugo at TruRC has confirmed the O3 antennas as what I said. DJI don’t use circular polarised in any of their products apart from the V1 system. All of the system with multiple use like the Goggles V2 and G2 are all linear. Remember these products are also used with their drones like Avata, FPV Drone and the mavics. All of my content is heavily researched and checked before published to ensure all of the info in this video is correct.
@@MadRC gonna try doing circular cross polarization on both the V2 goggles and the O3 air unit…. Will see if that improves things. I’m surprised DJI is all linear.
How about no, I’m an engineer, I’m using my hands and nails to actually do crap, I’m not your chef making your dinner or poking them into your mouth. Mate, watch someone ffs.
@@MadRC mate i'm a engineer too! and i don't have long fingernails like that to poke around with and neither does any of my co workers... we would get the sack bringing them absolute weapons into work!
Im getting way worse range with the 03 and my v2 goggles than with the vista. I was told it was because i need to use lhcp antennas with the 03 system when using the v2 goggles. Is this true?
You can add LHCP to your goggles 2 and others have already mentioned it doesn't fix the 'worse' range. Yes you still have the cross pair linear but LHCP omni's should have noticeable improvement if antenna polarization was the ONLY issue. Ian needs to compare with his spectrum analyzer pre-O3 firmware output power behavior when used with vista's & air units on goggles2/v2.
I'm using V2 and 03, LHCP TrueRC X2-Air and stubbies on the goggles, stock dji antenna on the 03, long range and more penetration than vista, OG au, analog (tbs unify pro 32 hv at 1000mw). I like 2.7k/120fps on 4:3 👌
@@Fly_High_FPV Technically when you say O3 I thought we meant the latest firmware running on the Vista, which apparently is still classed as O3. If you meant the O3 air unit then yes, those have no such range issues that I know of. When the O3 firmware is used on the Vista however it seems to be so.
@spikester ahh, i'd really like to see that tested too, testing a vista with the old fw and again with the 03 fw to see if the firmware does shorten the range...if it does, we might have evidence needed for a class action lawsuit
Here is a fun experiment. Use your spectrum analyser with a circular polarised antenna to measure the output of goggles or the drone. Then use a linear. What you will see is that circular antenna is actually picking up stronger signal than linear. How is that possible? Both the drone and the goggles are using linear antennas! Ever wondered why the antennas are 90 degrees to each other? DJI is using this bizarre technology called MIMO. MIMO does a couple of things. One of those things is using multiple antennas to send and receive at the same time. Another feature of MIMO is to form polarisation using orthogonal antennas and forming beams. I bet that "shitty" stock DJI antenna will actually outperform just about anything else. You have no idea how much it pains me to admit this, because DJI is a Chinese competitor. But their RF engineering is absolutely top notch.
So… before when the update of the remote came out you recommended the DJI remote, and now you don’t? What it is? I already bought 2 bind n fly without any remote protocol 🥲

It's likely your battery getting in the way of your antenna
Question (sorry im new):
Can u use any DJI controller with the 03 system?
Like the DJI RC controller?
@@Schippmeester thanks for the answer.
"Only the DJI FpV remote 2" means i can not use any other controller? Or does it mean i can use those crossfire or elrs controllers?
Can we use DUALITY 2.4/5.8 STUBBY on goggles 2 in this stiation?
Absolutely.
I have a quick Q: I lost one of my iflight evoque v2 antennas(same quad as your on the bench in this video 6S version)
I ordered following. Will they work ok?
“FlyFishRC 2pcs 60mm Osprey 5.8GHz LHCP RP-SMA Antennas 2.82dBi FPV HD Racing Drone Quad Antenna”
Thanks so much 🙏🏽
Keep up the great work!
Brent.
the cap of my Air unit O3 antenna fell of after a crash today, i dont know how to put it back on, i dont know how to properly install it back, can someone help me with this please?
Guys, i have a question. Can i buy goggles 3 and caddx vista, bind them and put on plane to fly? It will work this way? Thanks in advance.
Goggles 3 are not compatible with DJI Air Unit, CaddX Vista or O3 as of today. You would need DJI Goggles V1, V2, Goggles 2 or Integra.
@@MadRC so what are goggles 3 for?
@@DirtyThing20 DJI Avata 2, DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Air 3 only right now.
@@MadRC so i can buy goggle 2 + caddx vista, put it on plane and it will work? Thank you in advance very much❤️
I'm planning to add two SMA connectors to the Crossfire quad with O3.
Yes it should be ok but the DJI antenna is not bad. You will be cross polarised but you can see how it is.
I have an o3 air unit on a chimera 7 pro v2 with the dji goggles 2. It has 2 o3 antennas. Ive noticed that I cannot go that far before the signal drops super fast between the goggles and drone. Could this mean that one of the antennas on my drone is broken? Or would the o3 unit have shorted if it was running off one antenna only?
try replacing the iflight antennas on your drone with stock ones, the part where you screw them on could be broken
@@AljoschaKainz turns out the o3 air unit antennas were damaged on the drone
I forgot about them. I would have mentioned it
very good work
Do the Goggles or O3 AU still emit 2.4ghz signal occasionally even when not using the remote? I've had a few ELRS issues lately, but only when other pilots with O3 stuff were around 🙄
We can’t be 100% sure but Iv not observed it. Nothing I have done on all my testing had got it into 2.4 mode with out the remote but that’s not to say their is not a scenario where it’s possible. But it’s not remotely the same as it is with the DJI remote.
@@MadRC Alright thanks! Could be just a coincidence on my end of course, (un)fortunately none of my usual flying buddies have O3 to test 😅I was thinking of a scan of some sort
Great vid.
When are the DJI O4 Air units coming out?
@@MadRC what about 2.4G ELRS?
the internal Linear goggle antennas makes life harder....
@@MadRC I didn't even think of the FCC filings! Good idea!
So why are vendors selling LHCP antennas on the VTX side?
@@MadRC gonna try doing circular cross polarization on both the V2 goggles and the O3 air unit…. Will see if that improves things.
I’m surprised DJI is all linear.
Please timestamp it
I think the goggles v2 antennas are lhcp, not lineal
No all linear, only the V1 was LHCP
@Elon Musk: Please build a Starlink antenna for drones.
I'd be more interested in the Walksnail FPV antennas...
I have a video on that already. Everything is largely the same apart from only one goggle antenna transmits.
@@MadRC Thanks for the update Ian..
I give them all a thumb down when they are long
mate cut your finger nails ffs
All antennas are “removable” at least once 🥹
Hahahahah, you are right
So… before when the update of the remote came out you recommended the DJI remote, and now you don’t? What it is? I already bought 2 bind n fly without any remote protocol 🥲
I have never recommended the DJI remote. I said DJI fixed the one issue however I have always recommended not using the DJI remote.
Stock O3 antenna has 2 connectors. Can I connect antenna connectors between 2 of AU connectors, regardless which side is?
I have the nazgul from Iflight same one as in the video, lost one of the antenas , can i still fly it ? I did a test flight and didnt really have an issue , but would really like an expert comment about this
You should replace it. You could damage the Air unit if you don’t.
