The technology DJI has packed here is amazing! It seems like magic to me. They're dealing with extra low latency and very high definition, while also keeping it extremely light.
@wave4308 basically two things: distance and latency. It's pretty easy when devices are close enough and not moving, with few obstacles in between, but as things get further, signals get weaker. Also, 4k streaming doesn't need to deal with latency, so you can buffer the video to account for lost data packets. Doesn't mean it's not possible, I mean these kind of systems seemed impossible a few years ago
I appreciate people like you who have the balls to open up equipment like this it scares the shit out of me let alone don't have the money to even fuck something up like this
Ian, what will happen if you disconnect the GPS? Will the goggles continue to function and just show a message abut the GPS or stop working alltogether?
Same thought...haha. Alrhough, actually DJI aren't bigs fans of Ian, and he buys them himself with Patreon funds. Would be funny if DJI figured out which pair he bought and added glue though 😂
Is there any technical possibility that the googles could tranfer any data to DJI passiv, so not intended by the user while it is used and disconected from any peripherie?
Electronic measurement of dioptre adjustment probably gets sent back to DJI to let them know settings most people use. Could be sent back to them and they can then use this data to help reduce cost in future versions. Als DJI webpage for the Goggles 3 list only 2 transmit antennas and 4 receive.
The digital potensio meter have help me a lot, to do and rember my focus point, you know what, googles 3 have a more precision focus that i experience, i have struggle a lot when adjusting focus on my google 2, but veey thank tp dji to add a digital number when i adjust my focus number,
Nice to see the insides of that goggles, thx for this vid! :D Short question: Does the screens work normally or did anything burnt in cause of the studio light? Im super scared to expose the lenses to brighter light. Wonder how much light is needed to burn the display :D
Great vid there Ian. Was wondering though, if the remote controller doesn't transmit to the drone (only goggles to drone), why do they have the HD and RC strenght on 2 meters on the telemetry.
Hi Ian, the optics look larger then my Integra's. Do you know the diameter of the lens? Is the entire area of the lens viewable or is it partially blocked like the Goggles X lenses? it's a little hard to tell from the videos, but the lenses look 100% clear. I'm hoping these have a slightly better viewable area(see corners well) over the Inegra's. I managed to put a Walksnail V1 goggle pad on my Integra's, with the nose area cut out of the foam, and this got my eye close enough to just barely make out all four corners. If DJI would release a 10 gram 1s capable VTX/camera I would 100% switch to DJI. The lightest I can get my vista and cam is 12.xx grams.
Hi Ian, nice video and solid disassembly skills! That was very enjoyable to watch. Was wondering if you know what type of glue they have used for those U.FL / IPEX connectors? It seems like a very solid glue that we should all be using, especially because it doesn't go all over the place, so it must be a fairly viscous compound from the looks of it. I would definitely use this to secure connectrions or even protect solder joints or connection headers to prevent them from getting ripped out in a crash.
Hi Mads Tech - can you please help explain the battery in the AVATA 2. It’s a 4s lipo (I think) that is over 2000 mah capacity but only weight 146 grams. How is it so light and such a high capacity for a 4s? And gives such long flight times. Have you torn the battery down yet?
May I ask - in Goggles 2 are there two tx/rx antennas or is it more mixed? So changing only the foldable antennas to something better is enough or would it be wise to do something with the internal patches too?
DJI FPV Goggles V1, V2, Goggles 2, Goggles Integra and Goggles 3 all have 2 screens. V1 and V2 goggles are 840P LCD, Goggles 2, Integra and Goggles 3 are all Oled. The new Goggles N3 are a single 1080p lcb panel.
Is there any way you can measure the transmit power that these two antennas at the top put towards our foreheads? I'm worried about frying my brain during a flight day.
Superb vid. I find the digital graphic of what the focus is set to...VERY handy. Saves me so much time messing about with focus each time. Turn until it's the number I know is right...crack on :) I've owned all the digi goggles...and these are the best so far. Really happy with them. BTW: You have to tap on the right (as per onscreen prompt) for the see through. So now knowing it's on the left means I can tap either side :D
Was considering a purchase between the 2nd gen and this 3rd gen Goggles. But the Goggles 2 have 51deegrees FOV versus the 44degree on the Goggles3. Aren't the 2nd gen, in this regard, better for FPV flying? (this is considered with the pairing w/ O3 and eventually O4 units.)
I still have the V2 goggles but I took most of of last year off from flying. Probably only flew 30 or 40 packs last year. Ready to get back to it and thought about getting rhe goggles 2, but maybe I should consider the goggles 3? I like the external cameras like my skyzone 03o goggles have.
Hey, I opened it myself now and found out, that it is not the standard size U.Fl connector. Any idea what connection the antennas are? I want to find something to modify to a standard FPV antenna (SMA, ...)
👍👍Mads Tech - Great teardown video! You're definitely a fearless man! I'm glad Goggles 3 includes diopter adjustments a la Goggles 2. I'm curious why DJI opted not to include it with Integra. I tried on both Googles 2 and Integra at the mall when I bought my CE M4P last November. I loved the clarity and the convenience of individual diopter adjustments, vs Integra's less accurate lens kit trial-and-error approach. I'm wondering, range-wise, what improvement O4 Goggles 3 brings vs O3 Goggles 2 in CE member nations. In fact, I don't even know if I'm getting full O4 capability (2.52Ghz band) here in CE Thailand. Do you think the extra cost of Goggles 3 in CE mode is justified vs finding a deal on the older Goggles 2? Thanks!
Could it be possible that the forehead antennas are made for the remote control (and RC3) ? (not for the VTX?) My guess is according to the dead zone test ,there is no significant difference between G2 and G3
What is the possibility of a power/battery mod? I really dislike the fact that the battery is internal and can't be changed out. Josh helped develop the NewBeeDrone smart cable to address the Goggles 2 proprietary battery, and then DJI answered back by boning us with this setup. What do they have against powering their goggles with flight packs? I'm 💯 certain I'll be tearing into my battery pack and installing a barrel or xt60 to work with the Speedybee BEC. The goggle battery just doesn't last.
I would be interested in seeing if the controller connection to the goggles introduces any latency compared to the goggles 2 and controller 2. When I fly longer range I prefer to lose my video signal prior to my control link. This way I have the opportunity to try and get some altitude and regain video connection. I imagine that you will lose both video and controller connectivity at the same time with this new goggle system.
I am concerned about the cable connection to the battery. Constant flexing of the cable being on the head strap could cause breakage. I Much preferred the Goggles2 battery setup.
A certain RUclips personality adamantly disagrees with me, but I think its entirely possible that dji could include gps and RID on future air units. Considering the hardware exists in the new goggles and how ubiquitous DJI systems are on bind n fly models, it could mean an easy method of compliance with Standard RID for manufacturers going forward. I'm looking at you, iFlight.
SIYI A8 mini 4K - any updates of that product cause there had been updates announced for fixed wing mode especially for inav ? I had searched for the video cause in that live stream a year ago you had mentioned a full review I could not find at least today. I always found them interesting solution cause here the drone flying is becoming impossible cause everyone can call the police and the usual action of the police is a confiscation to investigate things further which I do not like at all. I need to move ahead and fixed wing is the solution sooner or later. I can only fly fpv from the inside of a motorhome otherwise people will come over start discussions, debates, acusation or ask kindly questions about flying and the footage or how it looks and feeels.
Wow man 🤯 very intricate. So much stuff packed in there 🤯 i have integras but don't like them. I can't seem to get correct focus. Tried all the inserts. 1 of my eyes is different than other 🤯 still can't get totally clear and full picture. Maybe if i make screen smaller. 🤔 Think I'm already at 90% I'll have to try 80 😉 great video man 😁 very interesting
Quite crazy if you look how outdated the optics are. Oculus from 2016 had significantly superior optics and since then we've had 5 optical generations, all significantly improving on headsets..
Junk ill keep on rocking my goggles 2 I just don’t like the fact there’s no straps not like they work with anything I have anyway can’t use them with my 03 units or my avata 1 but when if they do a update I’ll get the avata 2 if they be on backwards compatible with my controller 2 and goggles 2
The technology DJI has packed here is amazing! It seems like magic to me. They're dealing with extra low latency and very high definition, while also keeping it extremely light.
Just imagine where the technology will be in 5 years (10 years?)! It's a good time to be alive (and a geek ;)
To be honest i wonder, now we have a 4k streaming between router and wifi router, why is it so hard to make a 4k air unit

These types of videos are just so wonderful!
Thank you!
Very good work Ian, you're going above and beyond to help generate knowledge for this awesome community!
Gee Whiz I learned today that I’m never opening a Dji goggle. Thank you Ian for making this video. It was fascinating!
Very much appreciate your efforts and detail in this tear down, WOW, couldn't take my eyes off the screen, Thank you!
Can you make a video to replace the battery?
Ian, what will happen if you disconnect the GPS? Will the goggles continue to function and just show a message abut the GPS or stop working alltogether?
Love to know if you found an answer to this
Do you think it would be possible to mount some kind of external antenna to these googles? would be great to have on on the roof of the car !
By the way after reading the manual these goggles are also fantastic for watching movies in 2D and SBS 3D. Audio via USB-C dongle.
This is absolute insane. Great Deep Dive. Thank you very much. 200mW (23dBm) is a great update in output power.
WOW thanks so much for making this teardown video it was very informative. I learned something new!
DJI knows you do teardowns and they sent you the extra glued GOGGLES just to fuk with you
Same thought...haha. Alrhough, actually DJI aren't bigs fans of Ian, and he buys them himself with Patreon funds. Would be funny if DJI figured out which pair he bought and added glue though 😂
@@RichardAFPV 🤣🤣🤣🤣💯 EXACTLY
does it still work if gps antenna is disconnected due to some unfortunate failure?
Technically yes however DJI may block take off. I don’t know in FCC
I doubt the Avata will launch as it would be aware of a GPS failure in the goggles.
I see, guess we wait for airunit behaviour before goggles purchase decisions 👍
what about some aluminum foil over the gps antenna, would it make it think it’s indoors or something?
Wow! He’s not scared to take it apart at all.😮
Is it possible to remove the speaker, or just cut a wire? Thee beeping is louder than my drone.
You managed get you ?
@@tomasciri6209 still beeping
What type of glue is in the antenna connection?
Is there any technical possibility that the googles could tranfer any data to DJI passiv, so not intended by the user while it is used and disconected from any peripherie?
Yes. The CCP is watching every move you make and every breath you take. Also every cake you bake and every smile you fake.
Jesus criminy Christ the complexity of these goggles is amazing! Thanks for this Ian! Cheers!
I remember a while ago I looked at the forehead antennas FCC documentation and they were transmit on 2.4ghz only. Did you get it wrong here?
Electronic measurement of dioptre adjustment probably gets sent back to DJI to let them know settings most people use. Could be sent back to them and they can then use this data to help reduce cost in future versions. Als DJI webpage for the Goggles 3 list only 2 transmit antennas and 4 receive.
DJI spying on your eyes.
On the antennas only 2 can transmit at once. And 4 can receive at once but thst can be a mix of the 6.
I'm working on taking the front two camera IR filters out so then in 3D mode it will have also night vision.
You made it? Can you explain more about this I’m really interest where can I talk to you?
thanks for the video, and now, is the foam the same from the goggles 2?
tried the foam of the 3 into the goggles 2, it did not fit
I was hoping you’d figure out if maybe one of the cameras that weren’t working might have been spliced by mistake during assembly?
One cam only works in 2d mode. In 3D you get both cams.
It’s easy to pull apart, but can he put it back together?
Just play the video in reverse?
The digital potensio meter have help me a lot, to do and rember my focus point, you know what, googles 3 have a more precision focus that i experience, i have struggle a lot when adjusting focus on my google 2, but veey thank tp dji to add a digital number when i adjust my focus number,
Awesome video Ian! I learned a lot about workings of these new goggles.
@madstech ... wondering if you can unscrew the lens to swap them out for some lens that have a better FOV. They look like they can be some M8 lens 🤔🤔
Nice to see the insides of that goggles, thx for this vid! :D
Short question: Does the screens work normally or did anything burnt in cause of the studio light? Im super scared to expose the lenses to brighter light. Wonder how much light is needed to burn the display :D
The Chinese on the ZV902 labels says 额头天线, which means "antenna on the forehead". which says nothing about what it is. lol
Haha brilliant
Fascinating teardown... nice job brotha
How do you remove the goggles 3 antennas to replace them with ORT Helicals?
Great video, thanks for sharing these precious info with us. 😉
that screw?
So is the faceplate "foam" compatible between the goggles 2 and goggles 3? Thanks
Great video! are the truerc x-air mkii antenna upgrades compatible like the G2s?

How many screens does goggles 3 have?

DJI FPV Goggles V1, V2, Goggles 2, Goggles Integra and Goggles 3 all have 2 screens. V1 and V2 goggles are 840P LCD, Goggles 2, Integra and Goggles 3 are all Oled. The new Goggles N3 are a single 1080p lcb panel.

Any idea why my screens may intermittently work on my Goggles 3?
I see a flicker when they power up but there is a 30% chance that they stay on.
TBH this sounds like either your proximity sensor is not working or they are faulty.
@MadRC
Thanks!
Good thing Amazon has a good returns policy lol.

Anyone knows if goggle 3 Antennas are suitable for Long Range ? Or rather Stick with V2 and Patchys ?
