Backwards step from the modular design of the original Avata, besides the battery popping out on impact, it was pretty much a bit of a tank. Avata 2 is undoubtedly the best beginner FPV drone on the market, really fun to fly.
When I look at the £1k 3 battery kit, and look at what has gone into it, It seems like a good value. It may not be the drone for some people, but there is a lot in the kit. It seems DJI have decided this is a volume market now. The volume of O3 kits sold mAy have changed their view of FPV.
Given that this is so difficult to dismantle, what do you suppose DJI do when they get one of these back for repair or refurbishment. Is there a large bucket somewhere with damaged Avata2 drones and they just supply a replacement?
So how do dji techs do the repairs? If they need to change a motor etc they just cut off the old one and Solder in a new one? I can see how hard it be to do this all day as a dji repair tech right?
How can I not subscribe to this channel, you gave me so much knowledge about drone repair and also saved me a ton of money. The Avata2 was in my sights to do a complete teardown, forget it.. I'm glad I got the refresh.
Can anyone tell me how no one has been able to hack this or other dji drones to make the video feed go to any device? Dji wont let me use the fly app on my iPad. But more so has anyone hacked the software like Jailbreaking it so you can use other digital goggles with DJI or other controllers instead of having to use the FPV 2 controller or motion controller 3? I'm surprised there isn't anyone who has tried to force break their software and hack it to be able to be used by any controller?
As an electronic designer ( retired) I now understand why the so-hig price. It worths every cent you pay... for what it is and for how it flies. Had inevitably to subscribe, thanks Mad for this video (even if... and honestly said some editing wouldn't have killed 😅)
What size screws are on the top plates. I need to get some. Tried GoPro mount, but since firmware updates, this camera is great, and the mount impacts GPS reception.
Wow they used actual vapor barriers for cooling. No more thermal paste 😮 Best not to puncture them. The mini 3 pro has the esc in the same position, common theme as it gets more cooling via the rear camera ducts in motion.
Best of luck getting it back together. Impressive work. DJI makes drone that are simple to fly and it makes wish I could fly that well with my constructed drone. I think we would need to get into a graphene frame to get something light n strong. Have to be so careful with plastic.
Theoretically, a complete O4 Air Unit is installed in the drone. It must be possible to tap the SBUS/HDL at a contact somewhere, route it out of the drone and connect it to a Betaflight controller or Arduino/RPi2040, for example, in order to process the control signals there. This could be used, for example, to realize movable LED headlights or other add-on parts.
It's not an Airunit. It's a entire drone on the board. Yes O3 and O4 will have the same core chipset but all the io is totally different and the software is different. DJI actually run the flight controller on the same Asic as the video and as such it's not even communicating externally. You can't tell a hammer to be screwdriver with out melting it down and it's the same here.
Question before I modded my Avata 1 to the 3.5 kit I originally did just the motors first which I didn’t know when I upgraded the frame I had to replace the motors again to the 4 screw mount rather than the 3 hole. Can I use my 3 hole motors on the Avata 2
Actually I broke the upper frame, so I had to pull everything out from the drone and mount it back in new frame. In your video there is most of things, I had also to disassemble ESC and drag out the propellers. After succeding I would say that its not that bad if you damage upper frame - it costed me only 78Euro and about 3hours of time. Now if i had to do it again it would take an hour.
@@myeyeswideopen_oo I haven't tried that, because both top and bottom of the main frame were damaged. There are antennas in it so it might be problematical
Please make a tutorial on how to replace the gps module. I know the problem and i know this problem is specifically the gps module on the dji avata 2 and with the help of this video i know all i need is a torx screw and a plastic pry tool
I can see that the prop guards serve the purpose of housing the antennas as well as providing chassis rigidity, but they really screwed us for repairability. If you bend them in a crash, you’ll have to pray that bending them back with a heat gun will do the job. Otherwise you’ll have to send it in for official repairs.
Yo creo que sí que se pueden cortar los círculos que protegen las elices y si se rompen las patas, se puede imprimir en 3d la parte de abajo entera e incluso la parte de arriba que tapa los cables de los motores, no lo veo tan mal de modificar
What happened to me after flying once I go fly again I start the drone and I see the gimbal doesn’t move at all. I tried with my hand and it was very hard to move. I had no idea why this happened.
crashed my drone and the gps flex connector on the board got runied. since 1st day of flight havnt been able to fly the avata 2. it woldnt even start the motors. just 4ked
Would there me a semi-easy way to get power out for a naked GoPro? I figured there is positive and negative on the ESC so that might be a good way. But is there any other way to pull the power easier from the board?
What I don't get is why you would even consider putting a huge Gopro instead of using the amazing quality of the DJI camera.... Like why put on a massive camera oh a drone that has the best video quality already?
Hey Mads Tech, do you see a possibility for an Avata 2 motor kit? I think it's a great drone but these motors have a terrible high pitched screeching noise to them that i've never heard from any other drone other than the Avata 1
@@chrisbee5481 How real is this though? Would there not be issues with tuning or some other factor that would make this impossible? Any idea which kind of motors will work? I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff 😅
The sound you describe might be coming from the choice of waveform that the ESC is sending to the motors. They squeeze efficiency out of motors by how the phases are clocked, in this case differently from bl_heli.
Love at the end when you ask about care refresh 😂 why have they made it so impossible to even work on. The avata 1 was easy! You could even buy the ducts etc. They were strong as hell too. DJI just wanna make more dollar from people breaking them

My avata has a been a tank and I even did the 3.5 mod and I’ve hit so many object with it and just replaced props. I literally did a drift by mistake with the avata 2 by trying to avoid a flag pole so I drifted backwards towards the church by my house and hit the tower and crushed in the guard. Shifted the body in the front which basically totaled my drone but luckily I took back to the store, spent $100 and they didn’t ask for anything else to be return so they sent me a complete more fly kit drone box so i ended up with 6 batteries 2 headsets and 2 controllers. I almost want to smash it some more but this drone does fly much longer. The tricks are neat but boring in normal. I wish they make a fov potato 2 even though it’s already perfect
There will be so much e-waste from this. Or maybe DJI will make a lot on refurbished repairs. Everyone is pumping the Avata 2 on the day 1 reviews - but that content will not go into these kinds of details. A great look inside and still an amazing piece of work despite being more “throw away.” I understand that dji considered that their average customer probably didn’t do repairs, but for those capable it is a bummer. @@BabyKnxckz I don’t expect anyone to be repairing ESCs or anything “complex”… but the frame? Repairing the frame elements of an Avata should be a very low-tech, easy process. Incredible complex integration. The production line automation must be out of this world. ie: the machine that makes these drone machines. What will be interesting is the "Right to Repair Acts" passed as law in at least four states already, and it requires manufacturers to sell parts, tools and provide the necessary documents to anyone who wants to repair at home. FTC has come out in favour of such laws. These laws are fairly new (since 2020, so not tested in court case yet), but a DJO Avata 2 could be such a product that would test.

It seems, no axisflying kit for this one, DJI put an iphone PCB on a drone. :O
The axisflying kit is stupid anyway why would anyone want it?
Is the video cable plug for the camera the same as the O3 air unit? Have you ever tried plugging the Avata 2 camera straight into the o3 air unit?
