Thanks mate. This is one of those videos that takes a lot of effort and you know is very good info but it never really takes off. I alternate the feedback though.
Thank you for the insightful and detailed video! I work in film and am upgrading a system we use to control lights via radio - it’s all still very new for our industry so I’ve turned to the fpv community for help! Thanks again
Easy to absorb information like that when it is related to a hobby. Please more content like this! I feel like being knowledgeable about the gear feels as good as flying well
This was one of the most informative and useful videos that I have seen in over a month. Thank you, this was awesome. And I can confirm, truerc delivers great performance and quality.
fantastic information! I was aware of SWR, but this is the first time I get a comprehensive look at ALL the parameters at play. I think it would be FANTASTIC if you could show how to use a hobby-grade VNA (possibly suggesting the best one to use) to figure out these parameters, as I've always seen mentioned that even with the same brand/model of antenna, the manufacturing process does induce variations. at the end of the day, once one has decided which mix of antennas is best for their use case, there's still the choice of which channel to run them on, and I think assessing the individual antenna in hand can help with that. thanks again, great video and great channel!
A really good presentation👏👏. I come across this often from radio hams when they equate a resonant antenna as to how low the VSWR is. Antenna resonance is defined when it presents a purely resistive load allowing for maximum current flow, while the reactance of the equivalent circuit equals zero. You can obtain a 1:1 reading while the above criteria are not met. Also antenna efficiency is not the same as radiation efficiency, otherwise when testing into a dummy antenna/load all the energy would radiate into free space. I’ve always considered antennas to be the physical manifestation of a complex mathematical equation. Essentially turning a theory or hypothesis into something you can physically manhandle. 😉
Finally! I am tired explaining to people that good SWR alone does not make a good antenna. In fact I can make an antenna with almost perfect broadband SWR but it will actually radiate nothing!
Great information for fpv! Would love to see antenna comparison videos. Compare each type of antenna and which works best at a standard range and a few different orientations. Also different style antennas like stubby, long etc... Great video!
Awesome info, more please, how does lets say ava tar vrx internals lhcp, be changed to rhcp just from changing the 4 internal u.fl / rp~sma from u.fl sma? i may have spelt the internal antenna wrong but is this possable?
I finally understood something about antennas. Thank you very much. Now, how many antennas will I have to try to find the best ones for my Sky04x + HDZero vtx ?
In microwave level instrumentation (radar) we used circular polarisation back in 2004, a reflected signal spins in the opposite direction so is ignored. More over we developed a switching gate so 100% power went out but it switched back to receive (very fast) this gave us a higher SnR and higher received signal strength. Its small but it wouldnt fit on an FC
Hi I'm kind a new to the hobby, but I do know a bit about electronics, question, in the transmitter and receiver what about test the leads there, from what I understand there should be no connection with the ground lead and the signal RIGHT? then in my case is it possible that the transmitter came bad from factory? since I tested the continuity on them and they seem to have connect it them, due they have continuity and I just don't know for sure if that is how it suppose to be, could you please help me I have not found a right answer, Also tested the continuity on the antennas but as expected there should be no connection or should be? due there I bought another antenna and that one has so got me more confused. In one of the transmitters there was a big ball of thin in the antenna so I deduced to remove and check, when removed the thin and check with the multimeter the continuity from the antenna signal to the ground and there was connection, to m understanding that should not be... or is that correct? sorry its too much but I had the feeling the more I try to explain the more confuse I got whether there should be connection or not. Thank you so much in advance for your time. Sincerely Luigui
Thank you, professor! Off Topic: Are you going to put the DJI Goggles 2 on your spec analyzer? I am really curious what the carrier behavior on these new goggles. The penetration ange looks to be quite a bit better.
Why doesn’t this video have more views…this is Gold. Found the link on TrueRC’s blog.
Hey Ian, just wanted to say, cracking video mate, great information here, I’ll recommend to folks with these questions. Cheers!

@Mads Tech
How can i measure or calculate the Efficiency of an Antenna?

This is so much info. It’s nice but honestly wish there was a simpler video due to my lack of patience 😂 and being brand new.

As I understand, Walksnail Avatar googles has not 3, but all 4 antennas for RX and one of them is also TX.

Great lesson, Ian! Thank you!
Great stuff! Very interesting!
i had them all, mostly the real expensive ones. TBS Triumph still ahead and in price also.
the way you present using graphs and to the point explanation reminds me of my RF professor. prob can teach classes =)
Really informative. Thank you Ian! 😀

Great job, quite tired of folks adding more power to wet string

That’s really cool.
a have vna, but don't know calculate efficiency
One of the most basic questions I have difficulty finding answers to is, are RX and TX antennas for FPV interchangeable?
🤯great video!
What is the best antennas for long range, i thought the iflight crystal with two omnis or is that B’s
Does the SMA adapters affects significantly the signal and performance of fpv goggles antennas?

Really interesting indeed! 😃
Thanks for the lesson, Ian!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great info! Do we know what the new Goggles 2 have LHCP or RHCP? Also the new 03 Air Units my be LHCP again.
Linear dipole

Nicely explained. G6GXY
hay buddy i need your help i have emailed you my email starts with staffroofing
I’m not seeing anything ?
