The Keelback was the first ship that I flew just because I liked it. It clicked with me even though I knew there were ships within my budget with a better reputation for each job I wanted to do. This was, of course, way before deep core mining was a thing. I used it for all sorts of missions around the bubble. I've since sold it, but I still fondly remember my days of learning the ropes in that ship. Great times!
That worked out well, on your last video I left a message requesting you to do the Keelback and what do you know the very next video is a Keelback, great minds think alike. I love this ship for all the reasons you described and because its beautiful, not ugly. Great video as usual, keep um coming.
I actually pulled my Keelback out of mothballs earlier this week, it is such a nice ship to fly. I just disagree with you on it being ugly. Lakon has gone with their utilitarian ship design for all of their cargo ships and I personally find it quite pleasing, in a rugged and dependable kind of way. Then again I actually enjoy the T-10 as a heavy combat bulk miner so I might be biased.
First ship I bought after my Sidewinder. I'm enjoying the space trucker life, and the tougher hide and extra teeth really help out with pirates. When running real high-value cargo, the fighter bay is a major benefit, and worth the trade-off in raw haulage. That said, my pilot's having a bit of a tough time ranking herself up because this ship with some basic upgrades is surprisingly adept at avoiding interdiction. I've started willingly letting us drop out of supercruise when I know it's a gimme like just one dude in an Eagle, and we're not on the clock. Folks gripe about limited power, but it's not difficult to work around if you take the time to set up some half-decent power management. And that's not even getting into all the other roles this ship can fill. The Keelback really deserves more love than it gets.
I was bounty hunting in my Fer-De-lance... and was tired with how much time i spend for the money i got more or less. So. I biought myself a keelback, traded a bit, then went core mining. And woops i got myself the money for a python in a day. Took that out for 2 days, now i own an anaconda.
Keelback was my second real ship, and the first thing I recommend to any new players. Being able to mine half a mil worth of ore in thirty minutes to an hour is invaluable. Keep up the good work man! Looking forwards to the next one!
Thank you for paint the respect needed to this fine vessel. Support vessel is right !! Best in its class. Peace all...til Thatgoids show. And Subscribed.
Just got into ED a few days ago and stumbled upon your channel trying to find more info on the ships and man you make every ship sound like something everyone should buy atleast so far, definitely thinking about picking this guy up on my way to make enough money for a krait. And yes your reviews on both of them are the reason behind that. So glad I gave this game a chance.
I finished this playlist faster than a Netflix series! Man I loved all your videos, I hope ED keeps making more ships so you can make more of this beautiful videos. You could in the meantime make a video dedicated to every way of making money in the game, like a video for mining, another for bounty hunting. In your same style of course! Then you could do some lore videos, etc.
Been getting back into Elite now that I have a Reverb G2 and a machine to run it + a HOTAS setup. I've spent the majority of my time in the Diamondback Explorer for bounty hunting / assassination contracts, and the Keelback for mining. I love the Keelback. In VR, the canopy in which you sit is incredible. I only just learned about core mining and walking around the cockpit and watching the ice shatter with the massive view has been an exceptional experience. Then there's the boost sound. Best in the game, no doubt. I love my keelback. I didn't expect that at all. But I do.
The Keelback was my go-to mission ship for about a year. Loved it. I now have a Crusader and a Krait II doing the same job, but this was the first in that line for me.
Loved my Keeback. I went Sidewinder to Cobra to Keelback. Out of the ships available for the price range, the Keelback was the best choice for me and I never regretted my decision. It's an excellent ship which got me my Asp Explorer and was fun to boot.
i'm new to ED, and got my Keelback today, i laughed pretty hard at this, cuz i actually learned the hard way how far away from an asteroid detonation you have to be. from a new pilot: 10/10, this thing is slow to accelerate, and god help you if you want to stop it. but the hardpoints and the optional internals are so SO worth it. mining has just become my favorite thing to do. i run all 4 mining tools because i find all mining types fun to do, but i make the dough by gettin cores, but having a 4b refinery with 9 bins, makes for a fun scavenger hunt for random ore i've never even heard off. this video made me wanna kit it for combat, i'm gonna try that tomorrow, the stars await. i am absolutely hooked, both on ED, and the Keelback for that matter.
Glad to see some love for the Keelback many hours of black box salvaging at Sothis and Ceos. Almost used it for DW2 on my alt account until I got Krait Phantom.
Almost every ship is like the Millennium Falcon. Not the prettiest or any instant perks, but man when you treat it right, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
Fantastic video again, thanks for putting it together, and it's a joy to hear some love for one of my favourite ships! It's a mini-Anaconda to my eye - you can do anything in it, and its quirkiness and unfashionable nature only adds to its charm (and those big quad-engine nozzles on the back look epic). It always seems to be one optional slot short for core mining, so I'm presuming the fuel scoop is the module I should leave out? Again thanks for another great vid.
The keelback is that mcguiver ship that needs to be in any space game. For opal mining,,I upgraded to an asp explorer after my cobra, because everyone said to get it and then a python. I really wanted the keelback though, but you know, min maxing got the better of me. But after my python I made a panite mining type 9, called it Space Moomoo. I love my type-9 so much, I am always excited when I run out of money so I can go back to it and do painite or ltd3 mining. My image of it is a laid back somewhat greasy space truck/miner pilot listening to cowboy music. I just wish I could paint it like a cow and give it horns like those hood ornaments old cars had.
There actually was a Cow-style paintjob available for the Type 9 at one point. The way to get it was a bit... impossible, however: There was a charity-event going on, and you could donate some money. You could also ask for a specific item that you wanted - the Type-9 Cow-Paintjob was just one of many choices. However, you did not get what you asked for after donating. Instead, Frontier drew lots and if you were drawn, you got what you asked for. So your chance of getting that paintjob was actually rather slim. That is what I remember of that charity event. I might miss-remember details, so if I do, someone correct me please. To this point, I never saw a Type 9 with the Cow-Paintjob. I still to this point would pay money (including some money for charity) if i could be sure to get that paintjob. I have no idea why Frontier maee things so overly complicated. But then again, maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.
The Spectator just frontier being frontier. But for all their faults, they made a game I find haven in this day and age of money for shareholders centric rather than player centric games. The fact that the game is barebones actually gave birth to this amazing player driven community/play style development. I literally regained hope in gaming when I learned about fuel rats as a story which also got me interested in elite in the first place.
I had one as a shieldless stealth torpedo boat, with cascade torp. It's a delight to pilote this ship in FA Off, plus as a lakoon ship it's a very good ship for heat management. Once fully modded it can have a decent armor and the fighter will distract most of your prey enough for you to destroy them. I loved that ship so much.
I just love everything about your videos. Your voice, your perspective, your narative structure. absolutely sublime. Any chance that the gunship is in the cards soon?
I just started playing Elite Dangerous, and this is my favorite ship I’ve been in. Adding little tweaks here and there just for a more balanced percentage is absolute joy. She’s the first ship I decided to name. Also, she’s the first ship I won’t trade in for another.
I recently started playing ED and also followed the path of Cobra then Keelback. Something about this ship really connected with me, it was definitely my first love. I never got that feeling again until I got to the Python which is my "mini-Corvette" until I can grind out the Fed ranks and credits I need.
This was my first ship after the cobra! You've convinced me to go back and configure it for some specific role, maybe core mining. I've got a python and a type 9 and a chieftain etc so I don't NEED it for anything, but I like the idea of having all my ships have a purpose even if I have better general purpose ships that I could reconfigure, the idea of having my whole fleet ready to go for something at a moments notice is sweet.
For me, this ship is a true legend. After doing some random shit in a Sidewindy, I picked up a Viper III for bounty hunting. Then realised I didnt really enjoy combat, but I already made a decent 3.5mil with bountys. I wanted something relaxing, and I found out about core mining. I did some checking around, and bought the Keelback. In just 2weeks, I was sitting in a Krait MK II, outfitted with 160 cargo space, good shields, and enough weapons to defend myself. The Keelback is a ship that I am not forgetting anymore.
Bought this ship for mining because my friends can jump in the fighter and fuck up pirates that bother me. Kept it after I could afford something better, because the boost noise makes me grin like an idiot every time I do it.
You, have the ability to put any damn ship in this game in the absolute best possible light. (Pls i need to see Vette in one of these it would make me cry tears of joy)
I went from a cobra mk3 to the keelback. I really like the SLF when I'm deep core mining. You will buy yourself out of this ship probably on your 1st run but I'm keeping this workhorse, love it!
Yep. Most of my time has been spent in a Keelback, and as others mention, I imagine it as the Millennium Falcon. I've never mined in it. I've never fought in it, but I've made tons of credits transporting with it.
Brilliant videos, really enjoy them; informative and fun at the same time. Brought the keelback last night, couldn't decided between this and the type-6, feeling like I've made the right decision now, thanks
I hold mine dear. moved on to python for mining , so the keel is now my fun machine. Fighter/twin size 2 multi cannons/twin 1b seeker missile launchers, mixed 5C bi-weave shield ,4d/3d hull modules, 2d module reinforce, 1a fuel scoop, 21 ly jump. Traveling around shooting what i can and grabbing material for engineering. Signed crewman as a mostly harmless, worked him up to master. He takes little payout , but I keep him entertained.
Your Videos brought me Back to Elite. To experience the different ships again. I flown the Keelback back when I had around 10 million in my bank account and used ist for Rank missions. Maybe I should go back and try the new mining stuff.
I flew a Keelback for a while! It was my entry-level ship for High Temperature Diamonds mining, before that very Keelback earned me the riches I needed for a nicely decked out mining Python.
I went for the regular T6, because of the thought focussing on one thing makes things better han being an allrounder. Don't know if technically I made the wrong choice, but I don't care anyways, as having fun and laidback enjoying every moment is the most important thing, which the T6 provides in ample amounts. It is great to hear your reviews either way as to understand ships better and know what they can or can't :) Love these vids!
Good stuff man. Hoping for a video on the Hauler. It was my first step in being a Trader. It's basically a space U-haul truck. It hits like a wet noodle with one small hardpoint, but I like it and still have it in storage even though I've moved up to the Type 6.
I absolutely love this ship, it's looks, it's handling, it's hardpoint placements, it's cockpit and it's overal setup. The shields are rather weak but the armoring is exceptional and gets even better with upgrades. So to say, it's the Elite version of Star Trek's Defiant Class or Hirogen Hunter vessel. Makes you want to comment in combat against Pirates "Direct hit, our hull armor is stable"
Started new account. BH'ed to 1 million. Bought Viper3. BH'ed to 2 million. Bought Adder, fitted for core-mining. Popped one Opal cube, filled the hold, sold for 5-6 million. Bought Keelback, fitted for core-mining. Popped 3 opal cubes, sold for over 30 million. Not a bad first 2 days.
I gotta say I love my keelback. It made me the money for a fully equipped chieftain and a (at the moment) stock python. I named it the Warthog and it's the best ship I could have bought after bounty hunting with the imp eagle.
Also the cheapest ship you can reasonably max out Combat Rank in. Put some AX Turreted Multis, and AX Taipan (Or if you unlocked it, the XG Lance) and skoot out to some Scout fights. You'll be having Dinner with Lori after a day or two if you really stick your nose on the grindwheel. It is immensely fun to do this in Multicrew btw. There's something special about playing in a ship that has a real chance of blowing up, instead of just dropping out there in an Invincible Cutter, or whatever.
Diggity damn! Such a cool video with some really great visuals! + I love the keelback Edit: Just checked out your patreon. If you keep these videos up I’m going to have to support you! You seem like you have a brilliant sense of humor.
This is my 3rd ship, just got it last night. All ive done so far is run 2 items 4 jumps for 300k. Realized when i got there it had no auto land chip installed. That was a fun time landing manualy for the first time and in medium ship to make it more fun
Ah my 1st expensive ship! mind you I just got this game few months ago, I had the adder and exchanged it for this, been using it since lol currently have this as my cargo "space truck" but with some defense thrown on there 😉 excellent content 👍

Thank you, for the kind words.
Fantastic.... Another out the Parker... Great Job... Keep em coming...👍👍👍
The Keelback is beautiful! Still my favorite ship even though I mostly fly my Anaconda these days.
The narration always reminds me of Top Gear.
DarthWall275 I’m pretty sure everyone means old top gear when they say top gear
Of course I mean "old" top gear.
But I do.
That boost noise at 3:18 is exactly the same as Starbug's from RedDwaft!
This was my first Void Opal mining ship back in 2019. It's the ship that changed the game for me.
By the gods is that a gorgeous shot at 0:31.
Such quality much excellence. You sold me on this ship man.
Good to rewatch the video on my good old rust bucket. This thing was my first deep core miner
Almost every ship is like the Millennium Falcon. Not the prettiest or any instant perks, but man when you treat it right, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
Another beautiful and well put together video. Keep up the amazing work!
The way to get it was a bit... impossible, however:
There was a charity-event going on, and you could donate some money.
That does sound like fun.... :-)
I just love everything about your videos. Your voice, your perspective, your narative structure. absolutely sublime.
Any chance that the gunship is in the cards soon?
The whole list eventually. But I'll get to the Fed ships, sooner or later. :-)
Keelback is a very mis-understood ship and I'm really glad you get it :)
Keep up the great vids my man o7
outstanding versatility, dirt cheap. the perfect ship to store in jaques station when you're tired of exploring with your min/maxed vessel
I wish they would use those wiggly arm thrusters on more ships. It's so fun to wiggle them around!
The Keelback IS my Deep Core Super Miner!
With a Trident SLF for support :)
+1 CMDR o7
Finally, someone who gets it! Subscribed.
Keelback got me my first 100mil, tought me to fly more accuratly, land myself properly. This is my TRUE first spaceship
Another great video. Thank you for your time and effort. Your always surprisingly fresh, and right on point.
I went from a cobra mk3 to the keelback. I really like the SLF when I'm deep core mining. You will buy yourself out of this ship probably on your 1st run but I'm keeping this workhorse, love it!
One of my first ship, a good wee work horse!
Yep. Most of my time has been spent in a Keelback, and as others mention, I imagine it as the Millennium Falcon. I've never mined in it. I've never fought in it, but I've made tons of credits transporting with it.
I never stopped loving my keelback. I love going to res zones and deploy the fight and just sit and watch as it makes me money
The Keelback was my first real ship and even though I occasionally buy new ships I always end up back on the keelback. I love this ship.
Maybe I should go back and try the new mining stuff.
absolutely do that. i first tried the new mining in a T9 and getting that space cow to do anything is a chore
I flew a Keelback for a while! It was my entry-level ship for High Temperature Diamonds mining, before that very Keelback earned me the riches I needed for a nicely decked out mining Python.
Nice - I challenged the accuracy of the review and my comment gets deleted.
Such a well-balanced and professional reviewer.
I cant wait for the vulture video, I love that little ship
I swear it's coming...
+ I love the keelback
Edit: Just checked out your patreon. If you keep these videos up I’m going to have to support you! You seem like you have a brilliant sense of humor.
Couldn’t find a type 6 near me so this was my first big boy trading ship and I had a great time with it.
My favorite shop so far. Been flying cargo for a week and As soon as I figure out how to mine I can bring in the credits.
