    Longer length is fine with me, but it also means I'm not likely to watch it day 1. I'm going to reserve it for when I have something to do.

    I wish PNW makers would use a larger diameter eye at the top. It could not possibly add more than a few cents to the cost of the manufacturing. It would be truer to the original design and functionality of the boot. There probably was a good reason the old timers used the logger knot that we will never experience because we are unable to double back the laces through the same eyelet nowadays. I also wish they used wider spread (open) speed hooks to accommodate thick diameter paracord laces.

    Great video as usual 😁 very detailed and in depth. It sounds like the audio is good now on both sides. And longer length format is better. About an hour to an hour and a half is a good length. With a shorter video it would have to be much more structured to get out the same information and probably edited. There's a reason the rose anvil 2 channel exists. The main channel is short videos and for the RUclips algorithm. I don't think you guys care about the algorithm.

    I started wrapping laces because that’s how I was taught to do ice skates. I prefer to wrap between the top two hooks on my 8” or 6” (not counting that vestigial eyelet) for a little more flexibility.

    Hey fellas, this video popped up in my feed. Just got my first pair of pnw boots(jk forefront 6”). Been breaking in for a week now. They are getting pretty comfy already I have never experienced such a quality thick leather boot. I think I might be hookes. Btw I watched whole video

    The audio is so much better this episode. Btw I had a pair of horsebutt boots that had a chemical reaction with antique eyelets, causing them to corrode.

      That's so great to hear, thank you for confirming.
      Yeah, I've gotten the green patina on some hardware over the years too. Thankfully it's just surface that'll buff away.

    OK, I'm not quite halfway thru yet, but I'll post the first batch now: 1. I think pull tab is OK on 10" that might use at least a third of the time. Not sure about 8" for necessity. I'm not sure how many guys are ALWAYS carrying an extra spare set of laces, though. In a perfect world? I don't loop around now. I used to when I was younger because I thought it was some more proper way but I got over it and wish most the boots came with shorter laces.
    Once again, a couple spots where M gets talked over or stops and abandons. Hardware preference personally--? Then says something about antique vs. brass : "I think antique is ..." ??? Well, when I called Nick's she said the antique usually rubs to the point it LOOKS like brass, so I figure I save $15 just getting brass for most or all.
    Wesco has the viewfinder menu thing where you can look at animated version of the different color thread stitch selection and such, but don't know how they look exactly in REAL LIFE still. Wish it was rust or something instead of RED for burgundy, etc. He said something about Baker's at about 23:00 and then ? Kevlar was discussed in previous vid
    I accidentally bought a pair of insulated logger boots. I may never really use them, but they were inexpensive, so at least I have them if I need them, I guess, but this goes straight to my next point.
    Things you may not mention or whatever that is on my mind anyway: For some reason the PNW boots won't put that articulation notch into their taller shafts like cheap brands such as Georgia and Carolina do. It seems like such a simple fix that I don't think would affect the gusset tongue all that much. I'm not sure if this would alleviate also the White's Bite, but it would make that whole other aspect of the bowed out lacing system vamp area crunch seem less dramatic or whatever. I'm still not sure if this means I actually have the wrong size boot, but the Nick's so far has been the closest to what I assume is correct fit and still has that munched area after only a couple wears. [And then I still haven't resolved all the kilty stuff since last discussion, but have been wearing other ones instead, anyway.] I did post the photos the other day in my Community menu but the backs too blurry for much detail if you had any suggestions or comments.
    So far the JK are a bit narrow and probably too short. I ordered the HALF size down instead of FULL size as recommended without realizing, and it's a good thing because probably couldn't even get my feet in if went WHOLE size down. Still ordering next size up AND switching to wide for good measure next instead of trying to waste time incrementally with the same half size and wider and HOPING that they will also be long enough when probably won't be wide enough, etc. We'll see.

      EMAIL THAT JUST CAME: Want Help Finding Your JK Size?
      If you are new to JK Boots, get ready for an incredible boot experience. Keep in mind the quality of materials and construction of our boots is one of a kind, which means your boots will form to your feet over time, eliminating small sizing differences. So really, YOU CAN'T MESS THIS UP.
      There's an illustration of the workboot one size larger than a running sneaker and I would say this is ENTIRELY wrong and THEY messed it up. LIke I said, there's no way that leather is going to mold THAT MUCH to my feet if I just OIL them enough, right?

      Why not just get a pair of Frank's? And depending on how you wear the boots they will flex differently. The cutout you are talking about on cheaper boots is mainly for easier flexing of the ankle. The other factor is pnw uses much thicker leather so it takes longer for those flex points to form. But the cheaper boots have the same flex points, the leather just isn't as thick and doesn't hold its flex shape.

      That notch creates a wear point. Not a problem with non-rebuildable boots, but certainly could reduce the amount of times an upper could be used in a rebuild. It also could encourage the upper to bend in a different spot then your own movement would create which would be less than optimal.
      I wouldn't want it personally

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 4 месяца назад

      @@cloveroak5492 It's the bend spot where the shaft normally bends, though. I think creates LESS wear point overall is the point.

      @@alexanderlevesque2694 I don't see why I would need a pair of Frank's any time soon when I already have a bunch of other ones.

    What about a good motorcycle riding boot from Franks. Do they do any custom stuff for safety around the ankle?

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  4 месяца назад +2

      I ride (I have a Harley)
      A good thick piece of leather has been the standard for protection since the beginning, and Frank's certainly has good thick leather. I personally feel it is adequate protection from road-rash, and getting your ankles ground off in an accident. If you wanted more reassurance you could definitely have a full thickness leather patch added to the ankle area. I'm sure they'd do it. Certainly not a bad idea.
      If you are someone that lives by the new fangled plastic armor stuff found mostly on sport bike apparel, then I really doubt they could do that. But if that is your thing it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask them. They are easy to talk to, and more than a few of them ride. Frank himself has had several motorcycles, and the shop forman is a die-hard for example.

      Great to hear. We are in Virginia and my daughter and I will be flying out in a week and plan on going to the top 4 (Franks, Nicks, Whites and JK) to gain a better understanding of each location and whom will be the best fit for us. Franks appears to have more customization options from what I’ve heard, so really looking forward to spending time in his shop. I have a feeling we will be broke after this trip…hahaha
      Thanks again

      @tuaesam if you have the time, you guys could make a 6 hr drive to Wesco. They might only be doing stuff by appointment so you'd wanna call ahead. They've marketed towards bikers. Not that I recommend them to buy, just for the experience and info. Spokane is definitely where to buy.
      Another one in Spokane that could be fun is Cruz Custom Boots & Shoes just for fun & history.
      If you run out of time JK is definitely the one to skip. They have screwed a lot of people through bad sizing, bad mistakes, and not taking responsibility when they do.
      Good luck and I hope to hear how your trip goes. 🖤

    can you please shed some knowledge/opinions on your thoughts regarding polishing boots with contrast stitching. I found that using pigmented polishes will stain the threads and ruin the aesthetic. I will now only use neutral polish, I learned this the hard way years ago.

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +1

      Personally, I don't polish unless the boots are in reeeally bad shape. Like "no color left" bad shape.
      But the answer is what you are doing....use neutral polish.
      If you do feel you really need pigmented polish, then use neutral first, and then do pigmented just in the areas you really need it. The areas you really need it probably aren't stitching areas...if they are stitching areas you've got a personal decision to make as to what is most important to you. You could always follow-up immediately with a narrow toothbrush and cross your fingers if you needed to pigment an area with stitching?
