    I totally agree - for most users this camera is the better fit than the S. The image output looks fantastic AND it’s $500 cheaper!!

      We were all quite taken aback by the image quality. The X-H2S does what it needs to do - speed. But there’s little room to crop without very quickly loosing quality. The detail the X-H2 captures really surprised us - very impressive. We were also very surprised that it came in so much less expensive. Fujifilm should have released this one first!

    What an excellent, well-thought out review. I really appreciated the fact that you dove into the menus and a lot of features that none of the other reviews have touched upon. Well done. You've reinforced my decision to purchase the X-H2. Subscribed and looking forward to future product reviews.

      Hi Steve, thanks so much for the lovely comment. We've tried to listen to feedback from other videos (and also checking comments on other reviewer's videos!) we've made to make sure we cover everything people may want to see and know about in new releases. There's a few more notes we'll take from this one too - there's always room for improvement 😊 Hope you love the X-H2! Great review, thanks. I preordered an X-H2 a couple days ago, I just hope I wasn't too late to get one in the first shipment. I've been waiting a couple years for this camera now. I knew it would come. The IQ is saving my from dumping a huge load of money on a medium format system, as I've already got most of the X lenses I want for it.

      I'm actually in the same boat. I have been an X system user since late 2012 and seriously thought about stepping into the GFX system. But then two things happened...the XF 150-600 came and then the X-H2. At first I thought the X-H2S was the perfect choice to go with the 150-600 but now I'm not so sure anymore. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the high ISO performance of the X-H2 since the 150-600 is a f5.6-8. But it seems my worries were unfounded...My original plan was to get the X-H2S first and the H2 later (in case I still would decide to go GFX) but in the meantime I figured it may be smarter the other way round. Go for the X-H2 and then check whether I even need the speed of the H2S (for wildlife in conjunction with the 150-600).

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад

      @@philippk819 I'd go for the X-H2 first and then see if you need the X-H2S. 40fps is incredible.... but realistically, very few people require this. The AF on the X-H2S is supposed to be faster and it was very, very impressive. However, I personally would choose the X-H2, which I thought performed brilliantly as far as AF was concerned, as the image quality was far superior and suits as more of an all-round camera. I thought it performed better in low light and produced better images... even though it doesn't make sense for it to with the sensor being larger. Hopefully at some point we might be able to do a true side by side test of both in the same scenarios - but just at the moment we've got a stack of other products and projects to get through, so unfortunately it won't be any time soon! Whichever one you choose, hopefully you'll get along with it. The 150-600mm lens is a beauty too!

      @@WilkinsonCameras Yeah, in the meantime I came to the same conclusion. Especially, since I'm new to wildlife. For the foreseeable future I will be too dumb to even get a bird in flight in frame anyways ;-))

    I agree that this is going to be the body for most photographers. Whereas the H2s will be more of a specialty camera - for those who need the fastest sensor readout. I think that’s why Fuji released it first, it’s just slightly more video friendly for those who are used to working with video files and they’re the ones promoting it on social and RUclips. Then once search and interest is at a high, they announced this and it worked - it’s backordered almost everywhere in the US.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting! You're probably right with the marketing strategy, with regards to releasing the X-H2S first as a more specialist option. We have free stock here of both models in the UK at the moment, so Fujifilm UK must have got their ordering spot on for this launch :) Hopefully the US will have stock soon too.

    I’m heavily leaning towards this camera. Considering my biggest complaint at fuji is the af I considered the S. But I’m a hybrid wedding photographer and video shooter and I think the non S will be good enough for me. I currently use the xt2 and xh1 so either one would be a big upgrade still. I do some wildlife but no sports except my nieces and nephews playing and running around. Usually I focus good myself anyways the af really I only need it for YT and vlogging as it’s much harder to video yourself with an unreliable af. Tired of external monitors and manual focus so I’m very excited about the improvements and flip screen.
    I know some people are like it’s only $500 more just save up. But I also have to get a cf express card and the new fuji battery introduced in the xt4. So it actually is a lot of money still that $500 saved could go towards that.

      I think for the uses you've described that the X-H2 is going to be the one for you and you'll find that it's a great wedding camera. Small, light, discreet and beautiful images. The AF is just fine for that kind of usage and you'd never need the speed that the X-H2S offers, but you will benefit massively from the higher resolution sensor. The new XF 56mm F1.2 lens is another cost you might want to consider as well... it's gorgeous and will be an ideal lens for wedding photographers: ruclips.net/video/kk04dpnUoE4/видео.html

    Fantastic comparison 👏 Hands down best I've seen thus far, you really put in the hard yards and obviously burnt a little midnight oil for the planning that went into it.
    This Aussie is very appreciative and that's saying A LOT to a Pom at present with the 2023 Ashes series hanging in the balance at present with the 4'th test about to begin. So very well done!
    I've watched almost every XH2 review in YT land and almost gave up on the camera due to the in hands 'feel' yet I am now reconsidering with what you've covered in features I was unaware of such as..... 1.4 / 2.0 digital conversion in camera (WOW...that'll come in handy!) Not to mention other tips and tricks such as having the ability to shoot 3 different film simulations on the one shot (Brilliant idea for my Wedding / Portrait work)
    Looks like I've found a channel I'll be returning to both now and in future.
    Keep up the good work

      Hi David, thank you so much for such lovely feedback on the video! I really enjoyed making this video and using this camera - in fact, I liked it so much that I've since borrowed the X-H2 and X-H2S to photograph a friend's wedding! (I'm afraid I won't be sharing a video with these images though!)
      If you're not sure about the handling and style of the X-H2 in comparison to X-T series cameras, then you may like to consider the X-T5 which offers a lot of the same features as the X-H2 but with the more traditional handling. I've done a review of the X-T5 too (where you'll really get to appreciate our fine British weather ☔) which covers it in detail and compares to the X-H2/X-H2S. Apologies in advance for the sound on that video, we were having some mic issues that day and simply didn't have the time to re-record. ruclips.net/video/u3ULVfIPVSI/видео.html
      For me, I prefer the X-H2 to the X-T5, but that's just because I like a mode dial and hybrid style cameras - they're both very good.
      I think the 3 film sims for wedding photography is a great idea! By the way, just in case you didn't know, you can also apply all the film sims in Lightroom when processing as well, so if you don't feel you had the right one chosen, you can always try another one or change it up in post processing.
      Thanks for watching! 😊

    Great basic review, I am considering it because XT4 has a serious problem with IBIS drifting during video, I thought XH2 will fix this problem for me, but sadly I reached 11:11 in your video to see that same IBIS drift, despite that you were shooting on a good gimbal. That problem to be honest is super annoying and a huge let down, as I love the cameras otherwise.

    I thought the Canon R7 was impressive, and it is, but this looks to match it. Very nice.

      Hi Pierre, thanks for watching - we're having an absolute nightmare with RUclips processing the video in 4K for some reason. It is filmed and uploaded in 4K, but it's taking HOURS to process. I think the 1080 version is now showing if you want to rewatch in better quality and we've asked RUclips what's going on so hopefully they'll fix the 4k version soon too!
      I loved using the R7, but I actually think I prefer the X-H2. Most of the portraits of the kids are the jpegs straight out of the camera with no edits - the colour profile Fujifilm has as default is just so rich and gorgeous. The camera feels very different to handle versus the R7 as well, a more pleasing build quality to it. However, it took me some getting used to th way Fujifilm menus operate comapred to the Canon system. X-H2 has the edge on video.... R7 has the edge on Autofocus (both very good, but R7 was incredible). Both very capable cameras... just too much choice at the moment!

    Super pumped about this, but a little bummed about the Front/Rear Dial settings. Looking for them to add the ability to add ISO to one of the command dials like the previous cameras via firmware update. Being limited to Aperture and SS doesn’t make much since, given that all native lenses (as far as I know of) have aperture rings. That level of customization really set us apart from other companies. But with this, it makes me feel like we’re heading towards an overly digital set up that takes away from some of what made Fuji so special and different. I think the ISO button is a great addition, as long as our options aren’t taken away. That flexibility with the dials is more suitable for fast paced shooting in my opinion. My set up was Right Index on Front Dial (SS), Thumb on Back Dial (ISO), Left Hand under lens for Aperture - it was so intuitive and fluid as opposed to having to press a button and change the ISO on screen.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад +1

      I would absolutely agree with this - I found the ISO settings a bit faffy to set and get to.
      But don’t worry with regards to the more traditional style cameras Fujifilm make - the X-H series are designed with hybrid shooters in mind and designed to get people from other brands to see that the Fujifilm system (and colours 😍) is an alternative, quality option for them. But the X-T (the T standing for “traditional”) lineup will no doubt continue alongside for quite some time to come.

    • @Eyeofkamau
      @Eyeofkamau Год назад

      @@WilkinsonCameras that makes sense. No worries with that though. I’m just hoping they don’t go full sony on us with their H line lol. I’d like there to still be that Fuji Essence from a customization standpoint. I don’t think they’d be sacrificing anything if they add the ability to map ISO to a dial, I think it would even suit hybrid shooters better (with myself being one). Give us the best of both worlds, y’know haha. Feels like they’re trying to win over Sony Users with this build. But I’m still going to get one! Lmao I love it regardless, it’s only that one thing, which could be brought back in firmware. I’ll be looking forward to that

      It looks like the X-T5 will get the same sensor as the X-H2 and hence probably also the same AF. It for sure will get the classical Fuji control layout and seemingly the 3-way tilt screen that the X-T2 and X-T3 had (not the fully articulating screen of the X-T4 or X-H2). I'm also pretty sure it will inherit the 3.69 mill dot EVF from the T-line (contrary to the 5.76 one of the H2/H2S). I really wonder whether it still will have the D-pad that some models lost. If not, that alone would be a reason for me to go for the X-H2...but we should know more on November 2...

    • @philippk819

      I have to add though that whether the X-T5 got the D-pad or not, I'm already 95 % set to go for the X-H2 since it ergonomically will handle long lenses like the 150-600 much better.

      Thanks Doug 🙂 We'll let you in on a little behind the scenes secret aka mistake... 😅We film using a Sony A7C with 24-70mm G Master lens and usually this produces great colours (though noticeably different from the Fujifilm cameras) either with the standard profile or graded after shooting in S-Log. What happened here is... we set up the shot and then accidentally left a massive gold reflector, from another shoot, lying around to one side. This bounced so much gold light about that I was looking rather jaundiced when we looked at the footage on a proper screen and as we didn't have time to reshoot due to the deadline of the launch looming, we had to just do what we could in post... which has resulted in a slightly flatter colour... which looks even more so compared to the richness from the samples from the X-H2. Lesson learned... don't leave things lying around on set!

      You can stack really easily in Photoshop using File -> Scrips -> Load files into stack. Just make sure you set up how many shots you want to take / the change in focus between them in the menu settings on the camera first. When first testing this, I didn’t really think much about it and just let it decide itself. Pressed the shutter button and it started a sequence of 900 images! (Completely unecesary abd bonkers!) Promptly aborted this 😅
      Make sure you use a tripod. You could try it with any camera too, just manually taking images at different focus points, starting at the front of the scene through to the back and then stacking in Photoshop.
      If you don’t use PS, then I’d imagine other software, such as Affinity Photo, will have a similar feature. Canon’s DPP software that comes free with their cameras has a similar feature for example. CaptureOne have a free Fujifilm specific software too… but I’ve not had chance to try it out I’m afraid.

    Would you say the autofocus is on par between the two cameras? X-H2S isn’t better with AF?

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад

      Hi Caitlin, technically speaking the X-H2S has faster auto-focus. However, I didn't have any issues with AF on the X-H2 and for the subjects you're more likley to be taking with this camera (i.e. NOT specialising in sport or wildlife) the AF is brilliant and worked every time... even on cats who can move quite randomly! It's a capable camera for sport or wildlife, but if you're going to specialise in this you'd be better off considering an X-H2S or even a Canon EOS R7.
      I did test the X-H2 on a bird in flight and it tracked it without fail, from take off, flight and landing. This isn't included in the video because I'd set the wrong shutter speed - I'd spotted the bird last minute whilst taking some landscape photos and in my rush to change AF settings, I completely overlooked the fact that my shutter speed was too slow to capture a bird in flight in focus. For occasional sport or wildlife use, the X-H2 will be more than capable.

    Do you think the difference from the Fuji X-H2 not having a stacked sensor is a big problem? I'm not sure which one to buy (X-H2 vs X-H2S) I'm a wedding photographer and I like landscape too!

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад

      For your needs, I’d definitely choose the X-H2. The image resolution and resulting pictures is just so much better on the X-H2. For dedictated videographers, the X-H2S is probably going to be better as the stacked sensor minimises rolling shutter. If you’re predominately a stills photographer who adds some video in then the X-H2 will be for you. It’s still a brilliant video camera, just be mindful of the types of subject you film and avoid too much movement / fast moving subjects. But then… if you needed to shoot fast moving subjects, you’d want to be going for the X-H2S anyway! Hope that helps 😊

    Thanks for your comment. I ask you what are the best lenses for shooting a video.
    How about the Fujifilm XF 18-120mm F4 (again for video and photo use). Hello

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  Год назад +1

      The XF 16-80mm F4 that comes as a kit option has an equivalent focal length of 24-120, but is still very compact. This is what I was testing it on. The video samples on the water, of the reeds and all the slow-mo were shot using this.
      It’s a good all rounder… but interestingly it’s not on Fujifilm’s list of lenses that will fully resolve the 40MP sensor. (I can’t say that I noticed this, but I haven’t compared like for like images side by side with a lens that does). I’d probably be looking at the XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR for my ideal every day photo and video set up. It offers an equivalent of 24-82.5, has a fast AF motor, wider aperture. The zoom gives you a bit more flexibility in one lens.
      The XF 18-120mm is a great all-rounder and is one of the lenses Fujifilm list as being capable of resolving the full 40MP and is designed with video in mind so will produce good stills and video. You may just want to consider whether it's wide enough for you at the 18mm end and whether you'd prefer a wider aperture. It's certainly very versatile with the telephoto range that it covers and is still small and light. Definitely a great all-in-one / travel lens.
      We currently shoot our videos on Sony A7C and have a 24-70mm F2.8 as our main lens as it offers more flexibility than a prime. That's why I'd personally go for the XF 16-55mm. Hope this helps!

      It worked really well, particularly with face and eye tracking. The eye tracking feature is great for both portraits and kids. I was out on my own that day, so no footage of me or the AF in action in that setting, but if you have a look from 7.54 onwards you'll see where I cover this and there's some sample AF tracking footage in video mode where we've overlaid what you will see on the camera - it works just the same for stills. For the kids portraits and the black & white / fluffy cats I was using the new XF 56mm F1.2 R WR lens. I've seen some concerns of such wide aperture lenses being slower to focus... but I didn't find this to be the case at all.
      The focus modes are quite customisable too, so beyond the eye AF, you can fine tune these. See the AF-C section in the manual (this links to the X-H2S manual, but it's the same on the X-H2): fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-h2s/menu_shooting/af_mf_setting/#af-c_custom

      I think if you’re happy with the frames per second the X-T3 offers you and this suits your type of wildlife photography then the X-H2 with its enhanced autofocus (versus X-T3) will be great with the XF 150-600mm. The image quality and overall versatility of the X-H2 thanks to the higher resolution sensor makes it a winner over the X-H2S for me.
      The 40fps in the X-H2S is incredible, but there’s not much room to crop into the image and I much preferred the results and image quality I got from the X-H2, which I’d particularly want if I was shooting wildlife, so personally I’d “make do” (it’s still a lot!) with 15fps.

    Do you need a fast computer for the files?

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  2 года назад

      The RAW files are 80MB and the 8K video requires pretty hefty processing and graphics card capabilities. You are going to need a relatively good PC, and a very powerful PC for video editing in either 4K and 8K. You can check the minimum system requirements for Adobe Premier or Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom on their website (just google "Adobe premiere system requirements). The jpegs are just 16MB, so if you don't plan to edit RAWs or video then you'll get away with a much lower spec :)
      As a guide, I'm editing and processing stills using Lightroom Classic (I just cannot get along with the CC version for some reason!), an i7-9700 processor with 16GB of RAM and an SSD with plenty of space on it for files I'm working with. If I keep the catalog optimised and keep the SSD empty and make sure I'm not also using Illustrator or Photoshop at the same time, then this processes pretty quickly for me. I just have onboard graphics.
      Olivia, who films and edits all our videos, is working on a much more powerful machine with a dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080) and 64GB of RAM. Prior to upgrading both the graphics card and RAM, the time wasted waiting for videos to export or to add things to the timeline was just unbearable.

      @@WilkinsonCameras For video you might consider switching to Davinci Resolve. I use it as my main editing software but often have to finish projects in Premiere Pro due to clients Graphic templates only being available in PP. The speed difference is staggering, like pitching my old Volkswagen Polo vs a formula 1 car! Especially with such a nice graphics card, Davinci Resolve will run super smooth.

      @@kmg1100 Thanks, we'll take a look into this. Hopefully it's easy to migrate to from Adobe - Adbobe products are super greedy when it comes to computer power, but when you're used to how they work, other platforms can feel alien (like trying to use an Android phone as an iPhone user 😅)

      @@WilkinsonCameras Yeah, I feel your pain! It helped that I could port my PP keyboard layout to Davinci Resolve, but it still took a few days of learning before I was completely switched. Super happy I did for the layout of Davinci feels a lot more intuitive/less cluttered than PP. You could always try the free version to test the layout. For the hardware acceleration you need the pro version though, a one time payment of €295. I loved your X-H2s review by the way! I've seen them all and yours was the best!

      @@kmg1100 Olivia who films and edits our videos (as well as starring in some!) is very much a PP girl, but I didn't along with it at all - probably lack of experience as I'm not really a videographer / editor. I might give Da Vinci a go and see if this suits my own workflow a little better though as it may encourage me to do more video personally. And thank you, really appreciate that!

    Correction: The H2 has less confident and slower autofocus and much worse low light capabilities. If you want or need more megapixels and 8K video, then H2 is a no brainer. For the rest, the H2S is the way to go.

      That's a fair assessment and I should have mentioned it in the review really, but so much else to squeeze in! You'll definitely need to consider your subject and the movements you're making when filming on this camera. It's another reason the X-H2S wins when it comes to moving subjects, the stacked sensor minimises rolling shutter on that model quite considerably in comparison to the X-H2S. Different horses for different courses 😊 Thanks for watching!

    • @domonicwhite
      @domonicwhite Год назад

      @@WilkinsonCameras Thanks for the reply - the stacked sensor at the price point of the X-H2S is bonkers. Reducing rolling shutter is a big consideration for anyone needing to rely on a camera for video (IMHO). Just have to buy both :) Do you have a 'go to' lens for video on these cameras? Something that makes the most of the bodies AF capabilities and covers something like 24-105 on a FF ?

    • @hotpotgang
      @hotpotgang Год назад

      @@domonicwhite If you are mainly going for video, the S is a clear winner. The 4K 60p on the regular is pixel binned unless you go with the 4K HQ which has even worse rolling shutter and capped at 30p. The 4K 60p on the X-H2S is oversampled from 8K sensor and can go up to 120P oversampled.

    • @WilkinsonCameras

      @@domonicwhite both would definitely be the ultimate combination! X-H2 for stills or second camera and X-H2S for video or any time you needed fast action. And if you need to justify it further then you can share the same accessories between them! 😬
For the types of video we film, it would be ideal. A suite of fast aperture prime lenses may suit some videographers more, depending on the content they’re creating.
      We currently shoot our videos on Sony A7C and have a 24-70mm F2.8 as our main lens as it offers more flexibility than a prime.
