I had both. Sold the X-T5 even though I love the analog dials and the tilt screen. I felt the X-H2 had better build quality and the write speeds with the CF Express card can't be understated. Learning to get used to the goofy fully-articulating screen but it's a great camera for pro use and a very good camera for video. I picked up a mint used X-T30 II for $500 to get my tilt screen and analog dial fix. That is used mainly for street and travel.
I traded my X-T5 for the X-H2 simply for ergonomics... I come to realize how fun it is to shoot with the X-H2 when I started using bigger lenses. It is so comfortable compared to the X-T5 even with the grip. I miss the 3 way tilt screen though but the articulatating screen grew on me, something i am willing to give up. No regrets at all.
Everyone said they loved retro styles until they realised the ergonomics is suck. I am a Fujifilm shooter but what I can say is people in Fuji community always complain about everything and the typical example is the full articulating screen. For my personal, that was a great improvement when Fuji brought it to XS10 and XT4 but people started to complain about it intensely. And then when Nikon released their Zf with that screen, people loved it. What a strange world that I really don't understand :))
From just a pure photography perspective, I much prefer the 3-axis tilting screen to the fully articulating screen. I find it easier to compose shots with the LCD panel close in relation to the lens. But as a hybrid video/photo shooter, the fully articulating screen is a must. You simply have to have it.
I have many different cameras and from Fujifilm I have a Xt3,XT5 and XH2 from Nikon I have a ZF, Z6II and Zfc, I also have cameras from Panasonic, Olympus and Pentax, the different screen types all have their place, if you are a photo centric photographer like my self, the tilt down screen on the XT 5 works works well with an L-bracket and a camera with a screen like the ZF is great for vlogging but works best in landscape orientation, the ergonomics on the ZF, XT5 and XT3 don't suck, I enjoy using them alot, that being said if you're shooting with large glass the XH2 is a better choice and while it is a bigger camera than the XT bodys it is not a heavy camera, it is like the Panasonic S5, if you want to work with a large camera try Pentax K1 MKII and the 24-70 f2.8 that is a heavy camera but a very good one.
I have an X-T3 and I am not complaining at all. I just wish to have better autofocus for birds in flight and stuff with my 100-400. Therefore I am going to buy an X-H2s. I will sell the X-T3 and my X70 which I love but not use. I will keep my X-E2. I love to use it with the 35 1.4. I love the pictures of the old 16mp sensor. Its small and good looking. Especially with the leather thing. That's my X100 substitute (I also have the 27mm). But I think I will miss my X-T3...
Thank you for your comments on the X-H2 being heavy, I just got rid of the BMPCC6kPRo, which I could use as a murder weapon, and I love the color/quality from it, but bringing it anywhere (specially without auto focus and stabilization), so while I LOVE the colors of the XH2, I dont want to carry a brick anymore.
It’s certainly relative, there are much bigger cameras than the X-H2 that are out right now. But in the Fujifilm X world, it’s a big camera. The X-T5 is lightweight and excellent for photography.
@@ChrisFreitag Im going to give the Xt5 a chance, I had the ZV-E1 , and while that little thing is a beast, the Sony Colors never look good (compared to bmpcc). Thanks again for your video and feedback!
Great summary Chris. I'm coming back to photography after 6/7 years out, so am starting again. The X-T5 is what sparked my interest with its design and retro controls (and obviously the sensor), but I just couldn't get on with the feel of it in my hand. I like to dangle a camera off my fingers when I'm walking about (like you demonstrate in your video) and that's not really possible with the X-T5 (I appreciate you can buy an additional grip). Last weekend I trialed a Sony A7iv and loved it. This weekend I have the X-H2 on my desk and love that more. The bodies are pretty much identically sized and weighted, but the Fuji really steals the lead in lighter, more compact, and more reasonably priced 1st party lenses. Add in the way it handles colour and the film simulations and I think I'm there. Yes the AF isn't as sticky as in the Sony but the latest v4 firmware seems to have made a difference, and the main thing is - I have more fun with the Fuji. It's making want to get out there and take photos, and that is ultimately what it's all about!
Awesome that you're coming back into it! I've got another video about why I choose Fujifilm and it's similar to what you describe. I just like to pick them up and hold them and use them. And of course, the color.
Congratulations ! Fuji makes some great cameras and the XH2, XH2S, XT 5, XT50, have great bones. If you do not enlarge or crop much you should consider tge XS20… cousin the XH2. Operates much the same way in a lighter and smaller package with a fantastic grip. If you are a Pro get the XH2 otherwise ren5 a XS20 and compare.
Love the XH2! I have owned every incarnation of the XT- they are joy to shoot with... but the XH2 is on another level in real world use when it comes to handling and quick adjustment to different photography needs... I now own a pair of XH2 bodies and they continue to impress me with every use. Have fun!!
I am also still on my journey of learning to love the XH series - in my case the XH2S. I may have gone the wrong way by not getting the 40MP version instead… but maybe later as a second body 😅 oh and I loved the xpro3 too so I can definitely relate.
You summed up the reasons in my head for why I ultimately landed on the X-H2. I went the X-T30II and X-S20 route before I landed here. Very similar reasons though. Great video and love your conversational style. 👌
I have both the XT5 and XH2. My wife uses the XT5 mostly and paired with the 27mm pancake I have my X100v equivalent. If the white logo bothers someone there's always black paint, patience and no coffee
Nice video ! Thanks for sharing. Quick question for you.. With the C1 - C7 custom dials.. Is it possible to set up each one with their own film simulation ?!
@@ChrisFreitag Nice !!! That's what I like to hear. Obviously I know you can edit / set "custom settings" but, I think the ease of use and the speed with having different film sims on the C1 - C7 would be great, especially while I'm in the field. Good to know !
My main photographic interest, is taking images (mainly still) of my wife's English Pointers at Dog Shows - hence my X-H2 C7 Custom Setting - Going to the Dogs. This camera is invariably used with an XF50-140mm F/2.8 attached to it. It's the best combination, and the best camera body for this purpose. However this is not my first Fuji love, which remains my X-Pro2 with XF18/F2 & XF35/F1.4. especially for street/travel photography. My Fuji journey over the last 10 or so years has meant that I've sampled most of the company's products, and until the introduction of the X-H1, I'd always been dissatisfied with the form factor of the XT line. I've loved the separate speed/ISO dials, but with longer lenses the cameras never felt right without a substantial battery pack which negated their size/weight advantage over alternative systems. I even tried to compromise with lighter zooms, although I found I needed the F2.8 option. Like you I initially found the X-H1 disappointing and when the X-T3 came out, I found myself hankering after and eventually exchanging the X-H1 for the later X-T4. A big mistake; I'd by then got used to, and was enjoying the better ergonomics of the X-H with the heavier XF/F2.8 zooms! So it was a no brainer that when the X-H2 came out, I didn't consider the X-T5, and I've been more than satisfied with my decision. Subsequently I've now exchanged my X-Pro2 for a Leica Q2, for when I'm travelling light... but that's another story (with possible regret?)
You are not the first person to mention a pang of regret moving from Fuji to Leica and I am paying attention to these signals. Like many people who use Fujifilm, I longingly look at Leica cameras as a goal, a place to get to. But if I love my cameras, why am I doing that? I completely agree about the body size and the larger lenses. The X-T5 body and the 16-55 2.8 was about the edge of comfort. I didn’t use a grip because I didn’t think I needed it.
Nice candid vid. So in summary what’s the best camera to get??? “It depends” 😊. I think all the points are good ones. For me I chose the xt5 because of the size and the retro feel. Maybe the retro is not really practical but it gives me joy nonetheless
Awesome Video Chris! I am waiting to see what Fuji releases on the 20th, but if nothing catches my interest...The X-H2 or X-H2s might be my next purchase!
Thank you Weston! This is going to sound so weird but I saw your thumbnail for X-E4/X-E2 video on Threads and meant to watch it and then forgot who posted that thumbnail. I even went to RUclips to search X-E4 and X-E2 but it didn't come up. And then you commented and followed me, I went to your channel, and voila! The universe!
The X H2 is and it's film simulations, is magic, especially with the FUJI XF 16 to 80mm IOS f4. lens. It can handle most situations and needs. With a Lowepro sling bag, the weight is minimal and for me, it's an easy all day carry!
It’s easy to forget how much smaller these cameras are than old DSLR cameras! I just took the X-H2 on vacation with a 23mm 1.4 prime and my 16-55 2.8 zoom and it was perfect.
I own a XH2S, XT3 & my new preordered X100vi. Over the years I’ve owned too many others to list now. My motto is do what makes you happy and explain to no one! Happy shooting!!
I'm in that process, coming from XT3 .I always felt i will change this camera when i feel penalized. I,m just back from Costa Rica and now i feel penalized, i miss a lots of shot because it never wanted to focus right and i tweak my setting in every possible way. BTW i made this exact same stupid mistake with my back pocket of my camera bag ,the lens took the hit and the base of my 16-80 is all crooked, no good. XH2 is very appealing to me. Thank you new subscriber here !
I happen to think the XH2 shouldn't exist. I own 2x XH2S's, I need stacked sensor tech for my line of work, it's a powerhouse of a camera and a true hybrid. But I can really sympathize with the analogue fans that Fuji really skimped out on the XT5. Coming from the XT4, the XT5 wasn't a really huge upgrade, build quality is worse, EVF the same and even nerfed such as no battery grip! The energy spent on the XH2 should have been better spent on really making the XT5 a better tool. Imagine a XT5 with the better EVF, CFeB and a battery grip, with the performance confidence it needs. Literally the 'XH2' and 'XT5+No battery grip' drove working Fuji fans away from the brand... :/ But yeh, cameras generally fall into two categories, fun or work. I don't want to work all day with a camera with a terrible grip. I NEED a nice recessed grip (especially when using heavier longer lenses). Maybe Fuji need to be brave and create someone wholly new. How would a retro styled analogue dial camera be received with a deep recessed grip like the XH2/S has? My experience of 3rd party grips is they never really help that much, because the design of the button locations were factored in for the camera as is, 3rd party grips often push the hand and fingers further away from where they were intended.
It's interesting you say this because what I left on the cutting room floor was a bit about me saying that the X-T5 felt more like the spiritual successor to the X-T3 and the X-H2 felt like the successor to the X-T4. With the X-H2S being more in line with the original idea behind the X-H1. With all that said, it seems like the X-T4 was the anomaly, the product that kind of broke the product line and now we have this X-H2 model that's hovering between the X-T5 and X-H2S.
I agree with you 100% - the XT5 should have been the pro “photography” camera with all the XH2’s upgrades including the deeper buffer and better build quality. I love the XT3 and the best part of owning it is stripping it for compact travel, or slapping the battery grip on for use with the big lenses. I don’t mind the XH line but they definitely left out some critical pieces like clickable dials, battery chargers etc. Fuji made a mistake relegating it’s best selling line to “midrange” status.
Interesting journey... I just ordered a Fuji X-H2 after comparing the X-T5. I prioritize size and weight but I am coming from Olympus/ OM Systems and the X-H2 isn't much different from the OM-1. I prefer the PASM dials too. With the small and light, Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 it is lighter than many MFT setups. I use the Ricoh GRIIIx for street photography and - now that's a real stealth camera!
I’m actually looking at the Sigma 18-50 strictly for video needs. The Ricoh is definitely an interesting camera, but I enjoy the range finder style of the X-Pro3.
The 40 megapixel sensor requires only the best glass to resolve the massive sensor. I have both cameras. The X-H2 for work and the X-T5 for travel. I am so impressed with these cameras that I may sell my full frame Nikon Z gear.
I reluctantly forgot about getting the X-T5 as soon as I saw there was no option to put on a vertical grip. The X-H2 took a bit of getting used to, and the menus are sometimes 😳🤔, it seemed rather weird to have to ‘configure’ the hot shoe before it would work with a flash trigger. Build quality appears so far to be the best Fuji has managed in its apps-c cameras.
Their menus are terrible across the board. Funny you bring up the hot shoe, I had a different problem with the remote port. I didn’t know where it was! All of my other Fuji cameras had it near the usb port. The X-H2 has a jack over there and the remote cable plugged in but no luck. Had to look it up online.
No option for a battery grip for the X-T5 for vertical shooting was a deal breaker for me. The first camera in the X-T lineup that did NOT offer this feature.
@bigd7696 No, sorry, my reply was poorly worded. I meant that I had to discover where the remote port was, it wasn’t where it was on the other Fujifilm cameras I’ve had. I was relating it to the hotshoe comment because it was something I needed to learn about my camera.
Very good video, good comparison. One question... how much does a file (a photo) weigh in JPEG using the 40 MP of the XT5? And...how much does an UNCOMPRESSED RAW file weigh in Fuji xh2 or xt5? We await your honest answer
a JPG straight off camera varies wildly based on what is in the photo, but ranges from 12MB to 25mb per file. The RAW files are more consistently around 87MB. This is true for both the X-T5 and the X-H2. But some honesty here, I had an M1 iMac when I first got the X-T5 and felt the M1, just the M1 chip not the M1 Pro or M1 Max, choked a little on the RAW files.
@@ChrisFreitag Thanks for your quick response. Your information has been very useful to me. And yes, that's the bad thing about raw files, they are very heavy. I know there is the lossless compression option, but in that case both xt5 and xh2 are no longer 40MP cameras, because they will give much lower resolution photos, which practically cannot be cropped comfortably anymore. I think that no one in their right mind takes a wedding of more than a thousand photos with uncompressed raw in this type of cameras with so many megapixels. We continue watching your videos!!
Thanks. I wanted the XT5, but I wanted to have a vertical trigger battery grip option, and the XT five was the first Fuji camera in the XT series to not have this. That left me with the X H2. I actually got it brand new on a black Friday deal with no sales tax which alone saved me $200 for $1849 and a free Fuji $400 battery grip. If I had purchased the XT5 I would’ve bought the Fuji hand grip as I have large hands. It would’ve spent more money for a lot less features. Also, for the record, they are not exactly the same inside. The XH2 has a noticeably higher resolution EVF viewfinder, which by the way is wonderful.
Sounds like you got a good deal! I was referring to the processor and the sensor, they are the same. So I didn’t notice any degradation in my photography when I made the switch.
@@ChrisFreitag you’re right about the same sensor. I actually also shoot with two XT2s and a Pro2. But the ability to get IBIS and 40 megapixels for landscape shots was very appealing. But the viewfinder to me is just crystal clear and noticeably better than my other cameras. I can use it with the grip for weddings and events, but for traveling and landscape, I use it without the grip. And you’re right, how the included grip is wonderful, even for those with large hands. For years, I’ve actually reviewed my photos using the viewfinder, which gives you a much better view in bright sun, so sometimes I even shoot with the rear LCD screen closed. And I thought I would miss the dials but 98% of the time on all my Fuji cameras I shoot with auto ISO and aperture priority so normally the dials are both locked on “A” anyway.
Love the XH2, couldn't live without the XT5... So I have both, one for stills, one for video, but both overlap and back each other up. Now if Fuji ever comes up with an XPro4...... Or just catches up with the demand for the 70-300mm! 🙂
Ok, couple of things. 1) I now have both too, I just missed the X-T5 too much. Like you the X-H2 is for video and the X-T5 is for photo, but I like that they can back each other up if I need. And 2) the 70-300mm zoom is my surprise hit of the summer. I love that lens. I’m going to make a video about it soon.
I bought an XH2 yesterday and am taking it out today. I have two XT4s and will sell one to fund the XH2 and keep the other for a second camera. I know I'm going against the flow but I actually prefer the PASM for speed. When I use the XT4 I tend to switch it all to command dials.
I use a XT3 for my podcast and i hate the Autofocus, was looking at a new Fuji Camera. Great video, but seems to have same auto focus after looking at other videos. What has been your experience?
I don't have any complaints. In fact, when I use face/eye auto detect, I feel very confident doing my talking head videos. Now I'm not coming from Sony or Canon, so I can't compare, but both the X-T5 and X-H2 have been much better than what I experienced on my X-T4.
Nice explanation of your trials and tribulations! LOL! Some day I hope I can afford a used copy of one of the 40mp bodies. Right now, I'm using the X-T3 which is also a tank and does a great job. Some beautiful images in here too. As I look out the window while typing, snow is falling heavily here in the Lehigh Valley area of PA. I'm debating a photo walk! Take care and have a great day.
You should do it! Nothing clears the mind like a peaceful photo walk in the snow. Your X-T3 is a great camera and you still get the excellent Fujifilm colors. I love my X-Pro3 and it doesn’t have a 40mp sensor. 40mp is my crutch because I crop so much 😁
@@ChrisFreitag Yeah, I know I should. I've been loving our odd warm weather the past week and this wasn't a welcome event! LOL! 35 days until spring! 🙂
Agreed on the Fuji X-T3. I shoot with 2 X-T3’s with the battery grips. I still enjoy using them each time that I pick one up. At some point in time, I may pick up an XH-2s. I do not 40megapixels for the work that I do.😊
I had and loved the XT3 & XT30. I bought the X-H2s on release for shooting sports and the XT5 for everything else. I now hate the XT5. I like the way it looks and the tilt screen, but that is it. After shooting the H2s for a whole football season, going back to the XT5 is like going from an automatic transmission to a manual. It's fun for the first couple drives, but then it gets in the way. The retro dials are cool and I loved them on the Xt3, but that novelty has worn off and I want to just get the job done. The XT5 is only a quarter inch smaller, that is nothing. Once you add a hand grip, even the smallest hand grip, it becomes almost the same size as the H2s.
I had both available for exact the same price (new), I took XT-5 because I liked the smaller body and manual handling wheels on top of it so much. But since now I am in the fuji ecosystem with the lenses, I might in the future get a XH-3 body as a second camera, who knows. Currently I still wouldnt trade my XT5 to XH2, if I had to have just one.
I'm wanting to get either an XT5 or an XT2 but there are so many bashing the auto focus system (especially continuous af) that it makes me reticent. What has been your experience with the Fugi auto focus?
It was fine for me but they did something weird with the last update that can make shifting auto focus act unexpectedly. So my hope is that they undo their latest firmware update soon. Because I really didn’t have much of an issue before. But I don’t do portraits or sports or any kind of photography that requires advanced auto focus features.
@chris how is the subject tracking and autofocus performance compared to the XT5 or XH2s with the latest firmware? I can't decide between this one and the S.
I’m not an action photographer so I feel my expertise in this is limited, but what I’ve seen for face tracking and object tracking has been dependable, fast. I took a photo of an eagle with the X-T5 that flew over me in Washington and it happened so fast and it was completely in focus, just poor exposure on my part. The X-H2 seems like it’s exactly the same. Unfortunately I can’t directly compare the X-H2S because I have not used that camera. I suspect that the tracking mechanism is identical, same processor and all. But I don’t know for sure. Wish I could be more helpful!
No argument here on trying to carry something that will not attract violent prone thieves. However these days I think people will rob you for just about anything. I do own and use an XPro3.
Same issues for safety in Baltimore, Maryland. I often photograph in a park close to my home & constantly have to be aware of my surroundings at all times.
XH2 Pro's for me: * The custom dials * Shutter is very silent Tjik instead of CLICK. * 40MP sensor prints are sweet * Grip (I dont have to add an l plate grip anymore) * IBIS That is why I went with the XH2 instead of the X-T5 though as a a photographer can't get used to that articulating screen and the smallrig l plate doesnt help (blocking the screen😢). Fortunately have the X-T3 still for the screen and the dial experience. Also in general I find the tracking of the Fuji camera's compared to Sony not very usable can't rely on it to photograph my running around daughter for instance. So have bought an a6100 just for that. 😢
Yeah, that's definitely one of Fujifilm's weak spots, the autofocus. I get decent performance on subjects in stills for street or landscapes. It is much improved with face detection and now object detection. But unless you're Johnny-on-the-spot with those settings, you can easily miss those moments. Overall, I'm happy with the X-H2 now, I don't believe I'd like going the other direction from the X-H2 to the X-T5.
Thank you for your post. I owned the V and the T3. I use my H1, Graphite T1 and Pro1. Now the T5 has reverted back to the T1 size, along comes the H2. This is the second time I've watched your post, and I'm now in a quandary. I was going to buy the T5, now I'm not so sure. For me its good to see someone else was in the place I now find myself in. Combined, my sale of the V and T3 raised £2,700, which sits in my Fuji savings account. I guess I'll have to watch it again. I think It might be the H2 though. The idea of 7 presets is very appealing. Thank you again for an excellent depth post.
Well, I didn't set anything on my end. I just noticed that if I have my CF Express Card type B inserted, it shows remaining time when it's off. If I do not have my card inserted, it shows 0h00m even when there's an SD Card inserted.
Interesting video mate! Great to hear all the opinions. Im on an Xh2s and I shoot alot of street and landscape. (No previous x series cameras owned) and using my mates Xt5 I cant stand it. He had to get an added battery grip due to the small grip which adds to the size on Xh2's but is not the full picture. I personally cant stand the retro dials. Using command wheel for iso and shutter speed is much more efficient and im not needing to move my hand from its grip position. It all comes down to what you're used to after time in hand but its great to see what others opinions are especially if they have moved to one system or the other.
Thank you! The retro dials were more than just a stylistic choice, they helped me learn my camera properly. I’ve been practicing for well over 20 years but usually shot in aperture priority or auto. Once I got the X100V a few years ago, I made it a point to learn shutter and iso and having them as dials allowed me to feel it out, see what they did as I composed. But now that I know and I’m comfortable, I’m alright with them hidden under a command dial.
No it’s just the FUJIFILM logo across the front. I tried black tape but didn’t like it. I’m sure for most people it’s fine. There are a lot of other reasons I wanted the X-Pro3 than I got into here
You could have mentioned too that the X-H2 has a much better EVF as well as its capacity to hold long bursts whilst the X-T5 struggles pretty quick. ;) Otherwise I agree with you, the PASM world looks less fun initially but finally gets so much more efficient while shooting as soon as you master the different custom settings.
You know what's interesting is that I don't notice the EVF difference. I mean, if I'm looking with the intention of looking then I see that it's much better than my X-Pro3 but when I'm composing, I don't really think about it. But you're right! I forgot some key differences that I wish I had jotted down before recording. Like the X-T5 uses 2 SD Cards and the X-H2 uses an SD Card and a CF Express Type B, and the burst mode.
Do you have any thoughts about the EVF of the X-H2 vs X-T5? I'm intrigued by the X-H2 EVF and the ability to better see and compose. I have an X-T2 and just purchased the Voigtländer 18mm and 27mm for street/travel. I'm considering an X-H2 or X-H2s or X-T5 (or just keep the X-T2) ((or wait for an XPRO4!)). Probably the X-H2 is a bit large for street/travel, but I like the quality and EVF.
For as much fanfare as the higher resolution EVF on the X-H2 has gotten, I don't even notice. It's not in my comparison because I didn't even think of it because I seriously don't notice anything. I look through, compose the shot, take the shot, I'm done. I use the X-Pro3 which has a much lower-resolution EVF *and* I look through that EVF more often because there's no screen on the back and I don't notice. If this is to replace your X-T2 and you're looking to do street/travel photography, I'd recommend the X-T5 over the X-H2. It's a lighter camera with a more compact build and the tilting screen is much better for photography than the fully-articulating screen of the X-H2. The X-H2 is a tank by comparison. I don't know that the heftier grip would be as necessary with your smaller lenses.
The X-T5 is a lovely camera but the build quality sucks, it's like a toy, fine for vacation and general hobby photography, but if you don't baby you're gear it's a fail.
@@Bill-e-Goat I never comment on a camera unless I've used it for a while, that's not trolling, compared to other cameras I've used, it does feel lightweight and lacking build quality. Granted toy was the wrong comparison, it is a fine camera for certain situations, but I felt it a bit fragile especially the hinges on the back screen.
I cannot agree with that. I have the x-t5 with me every day and have been using it almost daily for over a year. It looks like the first day. Nothing wobbles, nothing creaks. Everything is absolutely fine. I m sure, we'll grow old together
Yeah, I have both now. The X-T5 for photography and the X-H2 for video. They can work as backups to the other in either scenario, which is nice. No more X-Pro3.
I don't buy into the XT5 being 'so light' compared to the XH2 ... XT5 - 557g and XH2 - 660g, however the XT5 needs to have a grip to be seriously compared to the XH2 ergonomically, Fujifilm know this and make a grip specifically for the XT5 and it weighs 120g , total XT5 weight with the grip 677g
Man your thought process is so emotionally based, no clear analytical comparison. My gosh don’t you read the specs and realize how much bigger and heavier the XH2 is? Also why didn’t you RENT the XH2 before trading out ? Didn’t you watch RUclips videos ? Now I will say the XH2 is a great camera and the PSAM and buttons are so efficient plus with 7 = Custom settings make the XH2 a great camera. My question is now that the XT50 is here what are you going to do….so small with the Gen 5 chip and processor ? ( haha)
i couldn’t even bring myself to watch this til the end it sounds like you have too much money, you had more cameras in months than I’ve had in 20 yrs maybe the fault just lies with the user rather than the camera. another thing i will research a camera for months and months to make sure it suit my needs before i commit as i wont purchase another for a long time!
I certainly appreciate your thoughts on it but cameras are something I enjoy. In a previous video I talk about why I ultimately landed on Fujifilm and I talk about all the cameras I’ve gone through in the last 20 years, so don’t watch that, it’ll make you sick. 🤮
@@ChrisFreitag thats the difference I enjoy taking photos. I’ve only recently landed on Fuji as I wanted something small and compact rather than carrying my 20yr old Nikon Brick when travelling. Modern day photographers just keep whining about there tools a good tradesman never blames his tools. I guess over half of the photographers out there these days wouldnt have survived the 35mm era.
@jimpap13 I started in film in the early 90s. Developed my own film. You may not like my photos but I don’t attribute my good or my bad photos to my gear. I just like and enjoy the gear. Have yourself a great day!
@@ChrisFreitag likewise mate have a great day appreciate your response all good about your photo’s we all have good shots and not so good shots regardless of gear. Cheers
The XT-5 is worth it just for one reason. That lovely tilt screen, it’s so fast, inconspicuous and unobtrusive. Whereas the damned side hinged screen is a burden, so slow, obtrusive and inferior in every way. It sticks out like a sore thumb. … it’s for vloggers, whereas most of us don’t vlog. Btw, you’re getting filmmaking/videoing mixed up with vlogging 🙄
I guess I’m damn lucky I haven’t dropped my xt3 in the 2 years I shot without any strap out of car windows. I did miss my Nikon ergonomics, but I didn’t feel too hindered with the xt3 since I got slightly smaller hands. Would love to try the xh series out.
I didn't mean to imply that the X-T line has a bad grip, it wasn't anything I really thought about when using the X-T4 or the X-T5 (or even the X100 or XPro cameras). It's just when I used the X-H2, I noticed that I had such a better handle on the camera.
Apologies for the sound issues around the 10:40 mark and toward the end. No idea what happened. They don’t last long.
It’s like it’s ok to have one of the X-H models as long as you have an analog model to have fun with photography 😆
@@ChrisFreitag Right??!!??
Man that’s a good come up. I have an XT five now. I might try to do the same.
I agree with you, coming from the xt3, I really love the grip of the xh2.
Pretty great to be confident it won’t slip.
The grip is great but so is the XS20. My deal breaker is IBIS which sadly the XT 3 and XT 30 II do not have.
Awesome! I use certain lenses only on the X-H2 and smaller, more compact lenses on my X-Pro3 and I feel quite happy with that arrangement.
@73smoo The X-E2 and 35 + 27 seems like it’d be good as a side camera. You have a lot of options though.
@@73smooI’m just thinking about doing exactly this! How are you getting on with the XH2S?
Have fun!!
Yeah it grew on me and now I love it. Completely makes my job easier for both photography and video work.
Thank you for that feedback, means a lot. 🙏
I have both the XT5 and XH2. My wife uses the XT5 mostly and paired with the 27mm pancake I have my X100v equivalent. If the white logo bothers someone there's always black paint, patience and no coffee
Great cameras
Nice video ! Thanks for sharing. Quick question for you.. With the C1 - C7 custom dials.. Is it possible to set up each one with their own film simulation ?!
Thank you! Yes it is, you can even set them with film recipes like from FujiXWeekly.com
Yeah, I enjoy the Xh1 way more than my Xt3 for ergos
Nice candid vid. So in summary what’s the best camera to get??? “It depends” 😊. I think all the points are good ones. For me I chose the xt5 because of the size and the retro feel. Maybe the retro is not really practical but it gives me joy nonetheless
It only feels like a cop out! They really are great and I love the retro look of the X-T5.
Explain to no one doesn’t make for compelling stories! I get what you mean though, cameras come and go.
That motto works until you get married.
🤣
I'm in that process, coming from XT3 .I always felt i will change this camera when i feel penalized. I,m just back from Costa Rica and now i feel penalized, i miss a lots of shot because it never wanted to focus right and i tweak my setting in every possible way. BTW i made this exact same stupid mistake with my back pocket of my camera bag ,the lens took the hit and the base of my 16-80 is all crooked, no good. XH2 is very appealing to me. Thank you new subscriber here !
Welcome and thank you! Sorry about your lens and that dang backpack flap 😫
But yeh, cameras generally fall into two categories, fun or work.
The $40 Small rig grip for the XT5 solved the better handling problems for me with much extra weight. With the big battery I don’t need a second one.
I actually own both again (long story) and they are the best…for my needs.
You had to configure the hot shoe? My X-H2S worked with a Godox remote trigger on day one, no configuring needed.
@@efroy2959you do know what “lossless” means, right?
Right! Use lossless compressed every time @@matt88169
Go have fun out there! The X-H2 feels more like the successor to the X-T4 than the X-T5 did. A real hybrid.
I sold my X-T4 and got an X-S20 for pretty much all of the same reasons.
The X-S20 has that great grip
@@ChrisFreitag dude that’s legit my favorite part. It fits my hand PERFECTLY.
Great overview of the reasons you might one want far model vs another. Nice shots snuck in too
Thanks! 👍
I am right east of you in Nebraska!
Welcome!
Awesome, thanks for your reply
Well alrighty then, sounds like you’ve moved on from the retro styling
I had both available for exact the same price (new), I took XT-5 because I liked the smaller body and manual handling wheels on top of it so much.
But since now I am in the fuji ecosystem with the lenses, I might in the future get a XH-3 body as a second camera, who knows.
Currently I still wouldnt trade my XT5 to XH2, if I had to have just one.
Yeah, the weight and photography experience are a definite strength of the X-T5
Try the GFX100 series, if you like and depend on cropping… ohh my!
Yeah, medium format is on my radar. I’d need at least some money from all of this to start coming in before I could justify such a purchase.
Agreed.
Same issues for safety in Baltimore, Maryland. I often photograph in a park close to my home & constantly have to be aware of my surroundings at all times.
Thank you
👍
XH2 Pro's for me:
* The custom dials
* Shutter is very silent Tjik instead of CLICK.
* 40MP sensor prints are sweet
* Grip (I dont have to add an l plate grip anymore)
* IBIS
That is why I went with the XH2 instead of the X-T5 though as a a photographer can't get used to that articulating screen and the smallrig l plate doesnt help (blocking the screen😢).
Oh geez, I know the struggle! They’re both great cameras, but I’m quite fond of the X-H2 now that I’ve gotten over the initial shock of the weight.
Is the xh2 autofocus quick enough for street photography?
It was prior to their latest firmware update. But honestly, the X-H2 wouldn’t be my first choice for street.
How did you get your SUB MONITOR to show time left when it's off? On mine, it only shows the count and the time left is always displayed as 0h00m.
So what you are saying is that the X-T5 attracts attention even though it looks like an old film camera?
I own two X-H2's both with grips.Use them professionally.
Alrighty then
Wish they put tilt screen into X-H2. Articulated screen suck for images.
Then you’d want the X-T5!
I actually have an XH2 (like new) that I want to trade for an XT5 😂
Perfectly understandable and if it makes more sense for you then that’s all that matters.
@@ChrisFreitag Thanks for the feedback and insight! I'll probably go with the X-T5 and keep a smaller setup.
Great vid thanks! Subbed.
Thank you!
The X-T5 is a lovely camera but the build quality sucks, it's like a toy, fine for vacation and general hobby photography, but if you don't baby you're gear it's a fail.
Wouldn’t go so far as to call it a toy but I get what you’re saying. It’s not as tough as the build in the X-T4 or X-H2.
Agreed calling in a toy is a bit of a troll, but I will say the bill quality could definitely be better
Weather resistance
Pretty sure they are both weather sealed. :)
Well obviously it’s a case of horses for courses. I changed my X-H2 for an X-T5 which I much prefer. Both great cameras but horses for courses.
Yeah, I have both now. The X-T5 for photography and the X-H2 for video. They can work as backups to the other in either scenario, which is nice. No more X-Pro3.
@@ChrisFreitag makes sense. I don’t do video, hence X-T5.
The non stop background music is highly distracting
Ok
I don't buy into the XT5 being 'so light' compared to the XH2 ...
XT5 - 557g and XH2 - 660g, however the XT5 needs to have a grip to be seriously compared to the XH2 ergonomically, Fujifilm know this and make a grip specifically for the XT5 and it weighs 120g , total XT5 weight with the grip 677g
The difference was striking. A case where 100 grams on paper doesn’t tell the whole difference. Larger in the hand, heavier, bulkier all around.
Man your thought process is so emotionally based, no clear analytical comparison. My gosh don’t you read the specs and realize how much bigger and heavier the XH2 is? Also why didn’t you RENT the XH2 before trading out ? Didn’t you watch RUclips videos ?
Now I will say the XH2 is a great camera and the PSAM and buttons are so efficient plus with 7 =
Custom settings make the XH2 a great camera.
My question is now that the XT50 is here what are you going to do….so small with the Gen 5 chip and processor ? ( haha)
You got that right! I trust my gut, I go with how things feel. Pick a path and go and see how it plays out.
i couldn’t even bring myself to watch this til the end it sounds like you have too much money, you had more cameras in months than I’ve had in 20 yrs maybe the fault just lies with the user rather than the camera. another thing i will research a camera for months and months to make sure it suit my needs before i commit as i wont purchase another for a long time!
Glad you got that off your chest.
