The editing is already starting off amazing, with James and Maso getting the Super Mario power star for the whole year. And I just knew Ben and Laurence would not be able to resist making a Markiplier Farquaad reference
Fun fact, one of the shrek videogames was made by DICE (of Battlefield fame) and had pioneered new lighting technology (Ambient Occlusion, I believe? Maybe?) Making it one of the most technologically impressive games ever made at that time.
Just a note on the Shrek voice, Mike Myers actually cleared this up in a recent interview, he said it wasn't as expensive as the numbers out there on the internet and he gave the money from his own salary when he realised it was going to cost them to redo stuff.
I’ve always interpreted the song at the end as occurring outside of the narrative. Ben and Laurence’s reactions to fixing the jokes is probably the best gag in here, and I don’t think I knew what Mason’s catchphrase was until I went back and listened to old episodes of the pod when he tries it out.

When the animators were moved from The Prince of Egypt onto the Shrek project, they referred to the process as "Getting Shrek'd", as mentioned here. But rarely known, the higher-ups had a different name for it. Like the story in the Bible, they felt as though them leading the animators from one project to the other was like the Exodus from Egypt, ultimately leading to the splitting of the sea. They referred to this process internally as a "harvest" of animators, and in respect for the Exodus story they named it after the sea being split. However, "Red Harvest" sounded more like something that would get them put on a watch list, so they elected to use the colour of the sea instead. Fun fact: Chris Chan, infamous internet personality who is now in jail, did a scene for the Shrek Retold video.
The character of donkey is actually a reference to the main character from Apuleius' The Golden Ass, the book where a man gets turned into a donkey and another man gets peed on by some witches, which is really quite similar to Shrek if you think about it.
"They shouldve got voice actors" cmon the whole appeal of shrek is the performances. 😂
add this to hate mail: no blue harvest huh? you’ve ruined my 2023 James
I love how the Shrek theme remains the theme for Dreamworks Animation. I don't mind that they went back to it.
I, for one, can't wait for them to look at the upcoming Lanterns show and do Green Trivia. Then it'll have come full circle!
I for no apparent reason decided to rewatch all of the Shrek movies last week and boy am I glad I did 🤠
In all my years of watching these two morons, I've never actually been awake long enough into the night, or early enough in the morning to catch one of their premieres. Truly a new and exciting experience for me! ...I'm too busy in my normal life. One of the few bright spots in our lives.
I forgot Shrek openly eats eyeballs 😂 and why did I not think they would do all four?! Yesssss😂👏🏽
I always assumed they were animal eyes.
@@LaddRusso91 could be, I don’t think it’s ever clarified tbf 😅
Great to have y'all back! I hope y'all bring back new puns for trivia instead of "Green trivia". I rewatched most of CoG the last few weeks in anticipation of new ones and really enjoyed the trivia puns.
“Never go back”
Good job to you 2 for not dying in 2023
Shrek Superslam was an amazing game and well worth a playthrough if James ever reconsiders his #NoVideoGames stance

this is an excellent start to 2023, i love your work and thank you to the editors for animating so much and yeah, i'm curious to see your thoughts on shrek 2
i'm no reviewer but if you need to stop and take a breather anywhere in this series feel free i think that's fair if it gets too intense
You went all out with the editing! Nicely done. I legitimately laughed out loud multiple times.
Did you know before his classic green design, Shrek went from red, purple, orange, and for a while, was even Blue-leading to the working title of this film being “Blue Harvest”, which coincidentally was the working title of the original Star Wars
11:41 Jesus. That was a VIOLENT blast of slime. Who is that?
Katy Perry. Haha 🤣
Shrek was originally going to be blue and it actually was supposed to take place during the fall, so it's working title was Blue Harvest which also happens to be the working title for Star Wars, it of course was an obvious nod to this iconic film
