Making the series "Penguins of Madagascar" was honestly the best decision ever. As a child I used to watch it religiously and even now I absolutely love King Julien, his crew and the penguins. They're hilarious and iconic.

Some rich mouse gets a new roommate who flushes him away into the underground, he has to team up with love interest girl to get back but then finds out about the plights of the under-grounders, for which he decided to save the day against the evil frog people who are planning to wash away the mouse utopia to replace it with frog kind.
It was a pretty meh film, as far as I can remember. A film which has 7 hit in the nuts jokes in row is not fine art.

What makes Madagascar stick around my mind still is a dream I once had, which was just the first movie, only difference was that Melman was a hyena and he was a bit of an antagonist, there to be a black mirror to Alex as he gave into his carnivorous hunger for meat with little to no hesitation and shatter Marty's fantasy image of the wild even more by him turning from a more ignored friend to dangerous fiend.

I think when the movie went to Alex going feral I think it was a realization for Marty because he hangs behind while everyone else runs and stares at his best friend looking at him with hunger and then runs off. Looking at Alex and being chased by him made Marty realize that being in the wild and having freedom comes with a high cost, like being hunted down by your best friend you've known since childhood. Technically it *is* still about Marty but now it's included how different Alex and Marty are, not just being prey and predator, but in personality too. Alex being in the wild has made him go back to his roots as a predator and he's terrified of himself and has made himself an enclosure like the zoo. Marty being in the wild makes him feel free and he doesn't want to leave and go back into a cage. Don't know what else to add really, I think I made my point.
U sir did in fact made a point. I think that is one of those reasons why Alex didn’t want to go to the wild because he feared that he would go feral and try to kill Marty by returning to his animalistic route. That explains why it was a bad idea for the animals to leave the zoo because of Alex turning into a natural carnivore if they begin to live in the wild.

Plus Alex eats stake so surely he would know he’s eating a dead cooked animal and of course the first film didn’t utilise Alex’s character, but it’s possible that he was hiding the truth, not wanting anyone to know that he could become feral if he were to be in the wild.
My opinion about Dreamworks is that they either make really good movies, or really bad movies, and rarely ever in between. For every How to Train Your Dragon, there's a Shark Tale, for every Kung Fu Panda, there's a Shrek the Third, and for every Rise of the Guardians, there's a Boss Baby.

I think that's what makes them one of the best animation studios, they're not afraid to break the formulaic approach to movies and try new things, that's why they have some of the best animated movies of all time. They may not all be critical successes, but they're arguably the most unique and passionate movies because of the risks they take. In the end, it's better than the repeating nostalgia filled, heart string tugging movies from other studios

I loved the Madagascar movies like hell as a kid, and the nostalgia has hardly rubbed off over the years. They're the gold standard for simple "turn your brain off and laugh at funny animals" kids movies and I'd sooner rewatch them as an adult than any of the mediocre tripe Illumination keeps dishing out.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Kung Fu Panda 3 are definitely good threequels by DreamWorks, but because of their wasted potential to live up to the mighty awesomeness of its predecessors, they will always look like cinematic disasters in comparison.

as a kid I had a dream that in madagascar 3 had a scene where the gang kept trying to sneak around in a movie theater to find their seats for some reason. I don't remember what the jokes were in my dream but apparently they were incredibly hilarious (probably because the jokes were made by my brain from my own humor) because I woke up at 4 am, walked into the living room, turned on a light, and turned on madagascar 3 muted. I waited for the scene and obviously it wasn't in the movie. I got mad and started trying to find the scene on the family iMac for probably 15 minutes. By this time everyone in the house was up so defeated I just watched madagascar 3 without searching for said scene. That's how I realized that madagascar 3 was a freakin great movie.

Even with all the comedy, I really think that this movie has a surprising amount of emotion. Maybe it's because of how nostalgic I find the movie, but I find it surprisingly emotional at some points. Could also be the music, which I think sets up the tone effectively

Fun fact: Ben Stiller (Alex) guest starred in the Friends Season 3 episode, The One with the Screamer, along with David Schwimmer (Melman). But the difference is that they were enemies in that episode, while in this franchise, they’re friends.

It's because they are lazy story writers so they think "animals and circus go together" and then they make a new film with minimal effort or thought.
Just like how the third movie in the Rugrats and the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie franchises are about the characters ending up on a deserted island.

Yeah, I had seen the first film a few times as a kid, but having not owned the Madagascar films The Penguins of Madagascar series was my only link to it. Naturally, I gained a bigger connection with said penguins. And as much as I find it rude to say it, Jeff Bennet's voice for Kowalski will always be my favorite. He just brings so much life and hilarious energy to his character! Just, the series was great. I think it would be interesting to talk about it, because hardly anyone brings it up which is a damn shame.
My Dad and I loved that show! Hilarious!

I think the point of the first one was to show Marty that being in the wild wasn’t all that it cracked up to be. Tbh I think he needed that wake-up call in my opinion. Alex is different from the others and I think it was a good for the creators to show that. Especially when he was chasing Marty (despite how horrifying that was), I found it very hilarious they played the soundtrack from Animal Planet (I think that’s what it’s called? 😅) 😂 I think the first one was taken the wrong way and kinda underrated. But I do agree with the lack of importance with Gloria and Melman. Like taking them out wouldn’t have changed too much. It did add some extra fun to it though. 👌 either way, I think the second and one did better too. And despite the fact ya didn’t like third one, I still think that movie had the best villain lol
For some reason I really wanted to eat the food in this trilogy as a kid. Like, they somehow made steak look like pez candy.

I like how in the first movie, the penguins surrendered in the train station scene, even though none of the authorities were there for them.
i know it’s dumb but i kind of relate to marty’s struggles with the zebras? like, i often feel like i’m bland and don’t stand out at all. as stupid as that plot line is, it still had me awake at 3am thinking about it soooo

I don’t think it’s a stupid plotline, I just think that in the movie it didn’t really go anywhere or have any major repercussions on Marty’s character
@@darao.4907 The sad consequence of dividing plotlines not only for each of the 4 but also for the penguins. Considering how Alex and Melman/Gloria's stories are the only ones to receive any sort of climax, its clear that Marty was the one left out to dry out of all the stuff happening.

@@danicafugit2697 Lol it's not that exciting of a story. It was an intro level film class and he clearly did not want to teach it so he would just read off of powerpoints. And i found out like halfway through the semester that he would literally make them like an hour before class. And he would just let us leave like 30 minutes early because "we were being good" even though he just didn't want to teach.

I remember liking the third movie most but mainly because I had such warm memories attached to it. We watched it at a summer camp. Friends around and everyone was having a good time. I guess it's more the memory than the actual movie. The first one always felt like little bit of a "meh" movie, it was something I didn't hate but didn't fully enjoy either. The second one might be a good movie but I feel like the Motomoto scene traumatized me too much that I could fully enjoy it. The penguings are always great though.
