The level of this match was more like a quarterfinal round. It's a pity these two great players had to face each other so early. Well done to Alcarez for showing the fighting spirit after being down 2 sets to love and likewise to Berrettini's phenomenal mental strength to pull out the 5th set. Hopefully Mateo's ankle will be fine for the next round.
he is 18 and it’s crazy how good he is. if he can continue to develop, (and ferrero is as good of a coach anyone will ever have) dude could actually be the person to beat in a few years
I love how Berrettini won and yet everybody is still talking about Alcaraz. It shows how dynamic and visibly talented Alcaraz is. However, Berrettini is looking really solid early on. He has improved overall during the offseason, especially his backhand which has always been his greatest weakness. I'm not saying it's a strength now but it's much more powerful and consistent than it was last year.
I am spanish, and understood what carlos said at the end. “Buen partido tio, bravo, te lo mereces. Mucha suerte” meaning great match man, bravo, u deserve it. Good luck. A 18 year old after a 5 set battle. Take a moment to appreciate this guy.
Sad that one of them have to go already that early, I really like them both. Alcaraz is a true fighter but Berrettini was very solid today, great match. Hope the Italian can have a great run here.
Pues te diré. Wilander ganó Roland Garros a los 17. Ivonne Golagoong ganó el open de Australia a los 15. Pero este mocoso, si se cuida, es una próxima leyenda.
Damn I went to bed with Matteo leading 2-0, woke up to see this insane comeback by Alcaraz. What a talent, what personality he has. Spain keeps delivering huge talents!
Not gonna lie it sucks to see Alcaraz eliminated so early, but his fight proves he is already top 15 calibre and can regularly contend with top 10 players.
I was trying to figure out which non-Medvedev match to watch and lucked into this one. BRAVO to Matteo Berrettini and Carlos Alcaraz for a thrilling, entertaining, and nail-biting battle!
The shot from Berettini from the rally that began at 2:15 is incredible. A stinging back hand down the line was very special. He used his wrist and made the ball jump and curl once it pitched. That is tennis at its best. Bravo Matteo.
Watching Berrettini play is always enjoyable. It's like if you're in a grand theatre watching a top-class ballet performance. His movement is so graceful and elegent that only a world-class ballerino can do. The way he hits the ball looks so gentle yet powerful. The backhand/forehand/slice/dropshot/lob/passing shots all are so smooth like running water, yet so deadly as the torrent. Wanna see him play more until the final day of the tournament. Go Berrettini go.
Alcaraz is a unique and scarily complete player, like literally if someone took Federer, Nadal and Djokovic tennis DNA and mixed them all together. Goddamn. His flat forehand is almost exactly like Federer.
@@YDVDNVRR I just hope he stays healthy. I think he can shorten points even more. Sometimes he plays more defense than required, it's ok on clay but not on hardcourt but yes I agree. His upside is much higher and he is already incredibly strong. Just a matter of time, 3-4 years I think
@@z1az285 I even think he’s gonna be 🔝1️⃣0️⃣ this year. A SF in Roland Garros wouldn’t be very unlikely maybe. Totally agree. He’s got a lot of room to fill.
You are way exaggerating. The kid is good but its unlikely he will reach the big 3 level. Go back to see 18 yo Nadal in 2005 RG, he was another level. 18 yo Nadal would crush 18 yo Alcaraz.
We are very lucky that in the last years of the big 3 someone like Alcaraz just appeared. This guy is one of the best things I've seen in decades. He has a monstrous and magnetic game, and together with that passion and that fight on court, he generates an incredible aura. Even when he loses, there is more talk about him than the winner, a sign of the charisma he has and the admiration that he already generates from people at such a young age. I hope he can stay healthy because if he is, we are going to see and enjoy amazing things with this child. There are defeats that are investments for the future, this is one of them. Enjoy the ride because this is gonna be awesome.
Alcaraz is the real deal. 1 year ago he was only ranked ATP singles 140. He won the ATP tournament of Umag Croatia, won 5 matches in a row at Roland Garros when he just became 18. And beated Tsitsipas at Flushing Meadows. And this is just the beginning…. Very promising player. Extremely fit, great tennis heart.
These two Beasts really went at it, & man was it a blast to witness... wish Alcaraz was higher seeded tho. For this was giving off round of 16 vibes. Waaaaay to go Studs! 🤘😎
Berrettini’s big weapon COMMANDS respect and adoration. He easily intimidates all others with his big weapon, he bullies them into a vulnerable position, then he forces his way in and crushes it. No wonder he has that swagger, confidence and natural cockiness about him; he is physically superior, born to dominate.
@@gungeternal4119 LOL 🤣, definitely tennis! But when a man has as big a weapon as Berrettini I can see the confusion! The only area he could improve is mental focus for the long matches. But at 6’5” with his natural strength he can easily take charge and brutalize any man when he wants to. Basically he’s got the size strength and raw stamina to do whatever he wants to do to the other guy.

Really commendable the way Matteo summoned his best to win the 5th. Have to bet Alcaraz will win a Slam in the next few years.
