Originally I was going to get a 5600x and skimp on everything else until I noticed the store only had these ancient graphics cards so I got the pre-built since it had a newer card. Other than the graphics card and processor I never paid attention to anything else until tonight when I took a lot at it with that CPU-Z thing and noticed the ram was running at 1100whatver (2400). After watching this video I just brought it up 3200 now. Don't notice any difference in the game I'm playing (Genshin Impact) but, hey, at least the ram is faster now, lol. Thanks man.

    Worth knowing as well... 11th gen intel chips are only rated for RAM speeds up to 3200MHz... anything over that can and most likely will cause instability issues, especially when gaming... even if your RAM is Rated for higher speeds, it does not matter. Do however enable XMP to get to the max supported speed of 3200MHz with a Intel chip!
    EDIT: When I first enabled XMP it automatically switched my RAM speed to the rated RAM speed of 3600MHz even though my I7-11700K chip is only rated for speed up to 3200MHz. So I had to manually switch it from 3600MHz to 3200MHz. I tried running it at 3600MHz and it worked but I eventually ran into crashing issues while gaming. When I dropped it back down to 3200MHz I was good to go.

    Make sure to set VCCIO and system agent to 1.2V when you turn on XMP especially for 3600mhz and higher. Because the motherboards will push these voltages to 1.45v which is very unsafe and can shorten your CPU lifespan.

    Great video, thank you! If I enabled the XMP, the CPU shouldn't change its speed, right? • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  3 года назад +4

      No, enabling XMP does not overclock the CPU's operating frequency. Since enabling XMP does 'overclock' your RAM it will also be overclocking the memory controller which is built into your CPU. So in that regard I guess you could technically say it does kind of overclock your CPU but in the sense of it increases your CPU's core frequency (which is what most people think of when they talk about overclocking their CPU); No, it does not do that.

    Thanks for making this video! It's been a long while since I last had a custom workstation/PC. Thanks to my new job, my company provided a budget to get a rather nice build. Over the last few days, I've been researching how to maximize the value/potential of what I've paid for, to get the most out of what my company has paid (for me).
    Quick question, when we enable the XMP profile for our RAM (I will have a 2x 32GB Viper Steel Series RGB 3600MHz ram [Total: 64GB]), will it have an effect on the ram's lifespan?

      If you enable XMP, you can ruin your processor alongwith warranty.
