@@paulmers9112 I have one as well mine boosts to 4.525. It's better than the 9900k. It uses less power and is faster at almost everything.
4.5ghz All core at 1.34v under water, it can do 4.6ghz 1.42v but I'm not happy running that vcore daily. 3800x isn't as good price to performance as 3600 and 3700x but it certainly is a fantastic processor for enthusiasts.
What's with the awful clickbaity title? The 3800x is far from the worst Ryzen CPUs. It's literally the 2nd best Ryzen CPU after the 3900x. Thumbs down from me for doing this. Pity cause the video was otherwise very well done. I think that choosing such titles doesn't fit the good quality of your content.
In price to performance terms it is the worst Ryzen CPU, you have the 3700X at $330 which only performs marginally worse, then you have the 3900X @$470 MSRP which has 50% more cores and a higher single core boost clock. So yes it is the WORST Ryzen 3000 CPU in terms of value. Although it's still a good CPU, like it should be at most $30 more expensive than the 3700X.

@gallya I got lucky and found it for $339 at Best Buy 1/1/2020. It was supposed to be back at $399 but they forgot to change the shelf price. I held them to their tagged price. I fully intended to buy the 3700x but for $10 more... sure!
I bought it for $329 on thanksgiving plus two free games. I’m extremely happy with it. Huge gains from my aging i7 6700 non K. I disagree with the tittle. I don’t feel like I wasted my money

Me too. An extra 5-8 fps from the 100MHz gain @ 1440p (over the 3700X). Even more for 1080p users. So it is a no-brainer for $39 more.

3800x is a better binned chip that will achieve higher frequencies than a 3700x.
Now I’m seeing 3800x price drops to $369.99 online and in store at Microcenter. Now, it’s only 11% more expensive than the 3700x! I think I’ll pickup a 3800x now

3:33 I don't like how boost clock speed is dependent on motherboards either. Not sure if CPU manufacturers should ever advertise boost clock speed unless it's a guaranteed minimum based on what motherboard is used to achieve that speed period. What a shame indeed.
Every 3800x I've heard of so far will do 4.4ghz. Mine will, lvl1techs will, yours will, and several other youtubers...
I sold the stock cooler that came with mine for $40 plus shipping so that offset some of the added cost.
That's good to hear, I ordered a 3800x. I won't get my Hopes up though. I have a major losing streak with silicon lottery. I always get the short end of the stick. If my 3800x can hit 4.2 all core OC and get 1900 on fclk then it's worth it.
@@ravine9083 I'm running stock clocks getting 4.55 Ghz boost with x570 taichi with 32gb ddr4 3600 cl16 at 3733mhz... the upcoming bios fix should get precision boost working like its suppose to and get even more boost clocks... I think the 3800x is the best 8 core ryzen.
@@danjal07 My 3800X boosted to 4.5 on the same BIOS version on all cores. PBO can boost to 4.725 on 4 cores and the other 4 cores 4.525. I also got 1900 Mhz on Fclk to match my 3800 Mhz memory OC. So far I'm loving this CPU.
Mine hits 4.5GHz boost no problem. On all cores I see 4.5GHz with a watercooler and proper settings. So, 4.4GHz is a very old accomplishment and has been tweaked since those numbers.

imho the 3800X is for when you want a 9900K but with much less power draw?
It's 30% cheaper than the 9900K and you get a cooler with the AMD. Also there is only a 10 (approx.) Fps gain on most games using the 9900K over the 3800X. So the 3800X is for people that are more strategic with their build and achievements. Also there aren't any crippling exploits for AMD processors. A few minut ones passed through and got shoved to the wayside by bios updates such as the ABBA bios update. Etc.
AMD is for people who aren't fanboys or people that have a complex where spending more money for the same outcome makes you better. Lmao!!
Imo, it's not worth it to pay $70 more just for a few hundred Mhz higher clock.
Still more worth it than Intel though.

Ryzen 7 3800x is, on stock, pretty similar to ryzen 7 3700x. However on overclocking, it's a way better chip. Silicon lottery (binning company) proved it : worst 3800x is better than best 3700x.
On my personal 3800x i'm reaching 4.3ghz @1.31v with fclk @1900mhz and ram @3800mts

I agree - AMD missed the boat there: 3700X = 8-Core/16-Thread - 3800X = 10-Core/20-Thread - 3900X = 12-Core/24-Thread
I currently have a Ryzen 7 3800X and I'm totally happy with it. I don't really know what's your problem
I bought the 3800X because I couldn’t get hold of a 3700X here even a month after launch. With the ABBA version bios, I routinely see 4550 MHz boost using a Deepcool Captain 240 AIO on a Gigigabyte X470 Gaming Ultra mobo. I can run a 4.1 GHz all core at 33*C all day - gradually working that up but not a priority for me. No regrets even though it cost a little more. ABB rev was ‘almost there’, ABBA took it over the goal line for me.
Will you do test of 3600 or 3600x? Is there a possibility to combine those with RTX2070 and compere to old but still pretty good I7 4790k? I just wonder about upgrade but don't have big budget. If it's worth to change I7 4790k to R5 3600?
As someone who just got a 3800X I can just say who cares! If I had the money to spare to get the next model in line why does that make it the worst?! Fix the title to something more specific, else it's just clickbait :|

I just upgraded to one a couple of days ago. I have no regrets .
My old cpu was a fx 8350x and my htc vive would reproject to 20% or 70%and rising temps hitting sixty five almost seventy five on the old cpu.
I could barely use the wireless vr adapter without compression a screen glitches. And horrible frame time on cpu side.
CPU load use on the new cpu is just at thirty percent cent in vr now with thirty four percent thread use . And temperatures barely exceed fifty degrees Celsius
Now with ryzen 3800x. My vr has no reprojection at all and picture is clear and sharp. With wireless adapter for vr
My video card is evga 1080ti overclock model. Absolutely no bottleneck now at all.
This cpu compared to the old one is night and day difference.

You definitely lucked out with your 3700x binning, mine won't even do 4.2GHz on all cores at the safe 1.325V limit.
I get a 527 single core and 5275mc cinebench with my 3800x pbo enabled custom loop
I too am using the 3800X, stock settings, using the included air cooler, getting an all core average clock speed of 4.4ghz. i've been nothing but happy with the chip. I think I paid $330 for the chip brand new. .

I use the 3800X for streaming and gaming. SO no. it was a better option over all due too the fact that I overclock and STREAM and game.
Look at the OC potential before spitting out a bunch of nonsense
on the + side, you can get even CLOSER too kicking the I9-9900K's butt with the 3800X while the 3700X cant reach the same frequencies at the same level of cooling less you under-volt

Locally in Ottawa, stores are offering it at about a 40 to 50 buck increase ,versus its normal 90-100 Canadian dollar markup. Like 499 or 509 versus 549 to 569.... And its not even Black Friday or Xmas/Boxing day yet!! Folks are hurting all over,lots of layoffs of late.Economy is in the toilet worldwide. I picked up a 3800X for $289 at Microcenter and running at 4.3
I got mine on black friday for around $200. The 3700x did not have the same sale at the time.
Edit: After 3 years, I do love this CPU and it's still serving me very well.

Also ich habe vom X570 itx von Gigabyte gegen deren B450M getauscht aufgrund besserer Anschlussmoeglichkeiten geringerer Hitzeentwicklung. Bios war schon F40 ger Version und damit R3000 ready , nur EW Firmware musste man updaten, daher war ein R2000er dennoch noetig. Fazit: lauft mit 4x8GB 3600MHz Gskill ( 2 Tiers , Trident Z & Neo ) Takt & Boostfrequenzen sind identisch zum X570 ! ( im Bios is sogar noch PCIe 4 gen aktiv ( .. nicht AMD sagen lol )
The 3800X is not the worst Ryzen now. I bought it on Cyber Monday 2019 for $325, so why not get a little more performance for the same price of the 3700X.
guitarprogrock it’s never been the worst it’s just oddly priced at MSRP. 3800X is better than any other cpu below it, ans is cheaper than 9700-9900K cpus with vastly better application bench on top :)

I bought the 3700x and I was disappointed, I got a dud, my max OC was 4.2 anything over that was unstable, 4.28 is the max boost on any core. The infinity fabric clocked to 1866 my RAM OC matched it and my performance tanked. RUclipsrs claim starting 1 to 1 is the key to better performance, that's not true for my system. I want more performance, so I purchased the 3800x hoping I'll get better fabric clocks and overclocks, but the price isn't as good. To me it's worth it because I want a better binned chip. I really want 1900 on the infinity fabric and my RAM can easily OC to 3800 CL 15.

So it appears that it's not just you. 3800x indeed appears to be a higher quality binned chip compared to 3700x. This kind of explains the higher price compared to 3700x, but could it still be a bit cheaper? Yes, I think it would be nice if they lowered the price by $20-30.

I Love my 3800X. It gets 5-8 fps more @ 1440p over the 3700X. And even more for 1080p users. So it's a no-brainer really. The 3800X is a dream CPU.
all 3800x can hit 4.4 however not all get there at the same voltages without manual overclocking personally mine hits 4.550 on auto

I'm running an 1800X and when I upgrade, it will likely be a 3800X but I'm aware that it's a gesture of support on my part. I paid way too much with a grudge for 15 years, buying Intel. I don't feel robbed, giving AMD $80
Price difference to 3700x are 60 Euros at my dealer.. Some people dont care about 60 Euros and just want the best..
my 2600 is overclocked to 4.3 ghz 1.4v stable!!! if i do upgrade im going for the 2700x for 199 dollars.
It's not all about the clock speed. 2600x oc @4.3ghz would not be faster than a 3600@ 3.6ghz stock.
In games they are same, just keep using your 2600, I have a 2700x and I think is pointless (just doesnt worth the money, you wont get more fps)

Got a 3800x for $396 CAD ($304 USD), $20 cheaper than cheapest 3700x Black Friday deal here. The price is the problem, not the chip itself.

If you are looking at gaming the Intel offerings are better.
The difference in the AMDs are seen in the Workstation type applications.
If you run the CAD benchmark tools you'll see the differences with the 3700x and 3800x being noticeable..so @ half the price of the Intel Workstation competition performance CPU (i9-10900x).. the 3800x is a good buy for the CAD users
You can't make a call yet on whether the 3800X and the 3600X is a good CPU or not. The boost fix hasn't been issued to us yet. I bet after the boost fix the difference will be 5% to 6% between the 3600x and the 3600, and about the same with the 3700X and the 3800X. Almost all 3600s are boosting correctly while almost all 3600Xs are not. I think the same will happen between the 3700X and 38, however the difference will be smaller.
3800x is the equivalent to the 9900k given some other video comparisons .

AMD just wanted a mid point between the 3700X and 3900X to make people think... well it's only another $70* -yes I know it's at like $550 now, but MRSP is 470- and you get 50% more cores WHAT VALUE!!! It's kinda like the 1700X and 1800X first gen prices at launch, although there wasn't really a point to that...
I picked up the 3800X because; I've got a really nice-over the top cooling solution / don't care about the additional energy cost for higher base clock / don't care for gear down when I'm needing higher clocks in the background / don't mind the steady nonfluctuating performance / if you're doing nothing but gaming and heavy task I would recommend the 3800X. If you do a lot of office type task, and not heavy workload use case scenario stuff, along with the casual gaming, then I'd then recommend the 3700X.
Now, for those who got a 3700X and a X570 board and aren't content creators.....I'm in a boat with others who see the X570 as a waste of money, just as you think my 3800X was a waste of money, I just have higher base and boost clocks than you, on a high end X470 board (with soon to be unlocked/cracked BIOS for PCIe 4.0ish [more like PCIe 3.8] on ABBA+ AGESA).
You wasted money big time, they're identical in performance. People who do a lot of office task or casual game should get the 3600.

Its $29 more than 3700x now... You tubers kind of screwed over 3700x owners. I get 4.35 @ 1.28v on factory amd air with gold chip temps. Results eventually showed the 3800x stomps out 3700x as more chips were reviewed. I feel bad for anyone who got 3700x listening to early reviews.
3800x is the best AMD CPU because it overclocks well, if you can keep it cool. Of course 3950X is better, but the price makes it almost obsolete.

All Ryzen chips are bad... They take waaay too long to boot to windows and run extremely hot🔥 Intel runs cool ❄ and have lightning fast boot times! Intel is the king of gaming 👑 PERIOD!
Don’t agree with the video wich cpu to buy. An example AMD 3700x 350 euros with Gigabyte master 400 euro’s. intel 9900K 515 euro with Gigabyte master 280 euro’s. Wich system performs better. And wich system retains more his value when selling? Take into account with AMD beta testing and intel a more stable and matured system. Perhaps going for an 2700x and a decent mainboard and upgrade next year with Ryzen 4000 series is the smartest move.
But why do you pick such an expensive motherboard for AMD? €230 one will do just fine and you still have to buy cooler for that 9900K. AMD wins all the way 👍🏻
