    You are discussing the Silicon Lottery binning INCORRECTLY! They don't bin for top stability, they bin for frequency at a specific voltage. That means not that there is 150MHz more headroom. It means that the chips from the 3700X are not likely to hit the higher frequency within the voltage envelope set for the binning category. SL is not saying the 3700X cannot hit 4.3GHz, they are saying that it is not likely to hit that at the 1.3V, which is the top bin of the 3800X. You could theoretically get there with 1.35-1.45V and be perfectly stable. But that is a lot of voltage to do the same thing the 3800X top bin is doing with 1.3V.
    The reason you bin frequency at a voltage is to find chips that can use less voltage to achieve higher frequencies, which are usually the best candidates for overclocking, especially with LN2. It's not a guarantee, but it has a higher probability.
    You were not the only outlet that covered this in this way, and I have commented on their sites as well. Just letting you know for future content. This is about frequency at specific voltages, not just frequency.

      3800 MHz is past the 1:1 mode for Infinity Fabric. It only goes up to 3733 in that mode - it should give you a bit more performance when you stay at, say, 3600 MHz for example.

    • @leexgx
      @leexgx 5 лет назад

      @@Beos_Valrah nope you can manually set infinity fabric to 1900 ( stability is not guaranteed not all chips can do 1900 on the infinity fabric) so if you can do 3800 on ram and 1900 on IF and get good low CL timing your good,, If you can't do 1900 on the IF then yes you should use 3600(ram)/1800(IF) as you get bonkers high latency if the ram to infinity fabric is not 1:1

    • @delta9k
      @delta9k 5 лет назад

      @Ganondorf
      I think you may be confusing dividers. The divider is for UCLK (memory controller clock), IF actually can be set freely. In fact, it was known from the very first leak of these options, but it has been poorly reported by some websites (some mistaking FCLK and UCLK). Check out Google (always your friend) some forums like overclocknet, and perhaps most relevant to this medium - Some tubes from Buildzoid on the subject. The factor that limits what you can do is as always - silicon lottery. As adjusting these settings is CPU dependent e.g., IMC and infinity fabric of your particular specimen, and your rams. My latency 63.4ns - not bad.

I haven't followed suite because I just have too much build to do, but I would for the fun. Yes, just get a Ryzen is the correct answer but it depends on the question. Some regions the Xeon route makes a lot of sense- I would do it if I could find a convincing use case for a server type build that had lots of memory and cores but I was happy enough with 2Ghz CPU. That said, currently the prices don't add up into the UK. And if the 3700X runs out we might see a change of attitude as well.

      I think EPYC is using up so many of the highest binned chiplets that AMD has struggled to make 3800Xs. That's also why the 3950X doesn't launch until September. Also, the 3900X needs high binned chiplets with only 6 functional cores but is in short supply because the 48- and 24-core EPYCs need them too. No wonder Threadripper 3000 won't happen until 2020.

For me what makes more sense here is the 3700x has two chiplets which have defective cores and don't clock as high so the TDP and price can be low but the 3800x is just one chiplet so that there's no latency delay, it's a fully working chiplet and a high clocking chiplet, this explains the TDP and price.

      No, every one of the zen 2 chips are actually running the SAME compute chiplets. The difference is, some of them will perform at better clocks than others. Those that perform better, get a spot on a higher tier of cpu. The most power efficient chiplets get put in the Epyc line (and likely thread ripper) those that have no defects, are fast, but may require a bit more power than the BEST of the 8 core chips, are put in the 3800x, those chips that need undervolting (or that amd binning testing says could benefit from undervolting) are applied to the 3700x. There is some hint that the chiplets of the 3800x are ever so tiny bit faster than the 3700x's at same clocks/voltage. (when i say ever so freaking slightly, i mean, WAAY freaking slightly. like .5% or something like that.)

    Another 3800X "review" that is completely missing the point. The 3800X is binned and therefore will overclock much better. I can run my 3800X at 4.4 all cores 24/7 at 1.34V. I have yet to see a 3700X that does 4.4 all cores at any voltage. Unless you are reviewing the overclocking ability of the 3800X, you are missing the point. If you don't plan to run any manual settings or overclock the 3700X is the smarter buy.

    • @robertp5367
      @robertp5367 5 лет назад

      @@Hardwareunboxed The mention of the binning is appreciated, first review I have seen that does state that. The numbers you show look very similar to mine, stock, ~4250 all cores etc. But I think either manual tuning or future BIOS refinements is where this chip will shine. Bone stock on a Taichi X470 I have 3 cores that will hit 4500 on Cinebench single benchmark and all cores with do at least 4400 on the same bench. You have to tune manually to get all-core clocks that far exceed the 3700X. I just feel the review shorts the 3800 a bit since a binned chip is compared to a lesser chip, but all stock settings are used. Stock for stock they are pretty much the same thing, thus the very close results. Bench the 2 CPU at the absolute best stable you can get out of them both and I think you will find $70 more is a steal. Either way, really appreciate the comment and love the work you guys do, keep it up!

    3700X best buy of the rest of 2019 for anyone who does a bit more than just basic gaming.
    Also more future-proof than 3600. Of course, best results and longevity from 3900X, for those that can afford one (OR can find one in stock anywhere....)
    3800X and 3600X should not have existed, they are clearly just a money grab from the uninformed.

    • @eiszapfenderwutendenwinde3233
      @eiszapfenderwutendenwinde3233 5 лет назад

      Future proof does not exist with AM4's longevity. Buy the 3600 if you don't need 12 cores atm. And if you need more power down the years, just upgrade the CPU to a higher tier. But then, its cheaper.
      Today, i can buy a 8 Core Ryzen 2700 for 175€. The 2700X for 215€. When the 3600 is losing its grip, just upgrade. Or replace the entire system with a new Zen3 & DDR5 platform.
      Every CPU between the 3600 and the 3900X is overpriced and bad value in general. There is no reason to buy a 3700-3800X.
      If you need power now, then buy power, namely the 12 Core 3900X. If you don't need power, then you don't need the 3700-3800X CPUs either. It just makes no sense to buy them. They are too expensive!
      If you "just" need 8 Cores for what ever arbitrary reasons. Then go for the 2700? But again, people are willing to throw out $200+ for what, 1 min. faster rendering time, or up to 10 FPS more? Thats just bad.

      @@Hardwareunboxed latency.?! FPS shooters might benefit from that, plus the big cache. There might be a slight problem with the cooling these chips, all zen in general but especially these 2. The heat source is not in the center and the coollers are designed to cool the middle of the cpu. Most of them anyway. And yes they both are the same. I think 3700x is the best AMD CPU for gaming because of that chiplet.

    Yes, Steve. You knew you would see me here. At this higher price point I don't see the need to buy the 3800x. However, you are going to see in time that for non overclockers, the 3600x is well worth the $39 at the lower price point. On Passmark, the 3600 rating is going down, while the 3600x is going up. Once more people bench their cpus there, you will see a 5 to 6% difference between them.

      That is not possible. You can only have an even number of cores per CCD, because the CCX need to have the same amount of cores. So only 4, 6 and 8 is possible. And then you have 2x6 and 2x8 with the two chiplets. And 2x4 just doesn't make sense, maybe for a budget chip if they produce a lot of bad chiplets.
