    MCU movies are much more funny than people give them credit for. Especially because lots of the humor is just funny lines that feel pretty much in character for whoever says it.

      True, I think it's a fair critique that the MCU jokes are repetitive in tone, but when it works it works.

    • @luckybug479
      @luckybug479 Год назад +14

      I think that’s also the nice part about the various movies having different directors and different styles because they also have different tones to them. The Guardians is more meant to have stupid humour (though I love that it gets darker in the third movie) while Captain America’s trilogy has more of a darker and more serious mood to it.

      The Issue with the MCU's comedy (in recent history) is that it's just taken to mimicking the comedic styles of Iron Man as well as James Gunn's films. When they saw how popular Tony Stark and Peter Quill were as characters, the MCU basically copied those two personalities onto every single character.

      I do like the explanation given in one of the hulk movies even if its not canonical for the MCU in that the hulk is just hyper aware and everything is all pouring in at once so he has little control since he's basically a drunk Bruce and can't process everything that's happening.

    The reason that Captain America gave Nick Fury ten bucks is actually a reference to the previous movie. Steve said nothing would surprise him anymore and Fury replied 'ten bucks says you're wrong'. To be fair about Loki and being threatening; the MCU in the early days up to phase 2 was often criticized for it's poor villains. Heck I think Samuel Jackson even jokingly stated the MCU has better heroes and DCEU has better villains. Loki was more liked because he was funny and clever, not so much because he was intimidating. It wasn't until Phase 3 that MCU villains began to get better accord to the average viewer.

    Loki isn't what you'd call a great fighter, but he has powerful magic. Also, he's a Jotun (Frost Giant). Similar to Asgardians like Thor, they're really physically strong. A normal, unpowered person fighting Loki without a special suit, looking at Iron Man here, is getting their ass beat.
    EDIT: Thanos didn't change race, they just made him a lighter purple. In the post credits here, he was basically a plum.

    I'll admit I WAS curious to see how you were going to react to the whole 'Bruce Banner is explicitly suicidal' bit, to the point that in the comics it was a very important deal, but in fairness I see a lot of other reactors skipping it for some reason.
    Hulk and Bruce are explicitly completely separate personas; at this point Bruce is able to influence the Hulk's behavior if he changes voluntarily, but when he changes as a result of stress, injury or loss of emotional control, Hulk comes out and fights EVERYTHING. On some level Hulk is a threat response taken to the extreme, and the entire world is a panic-inducing, terrifying thing that has to be fought so nothing can hurt him. As noted by other commentors, Bruce has Dissociative Identity Disorder and the Hulk is an alter; in the comics he has a lot more of them. Hulk is SIGNIFICANTLY more intelligent than you might assume, at this point he just kind of hates everyone out of embittered spite.
    Note also that Bruce and Hulk's behavior honestly isn't that different, both of them antagonize Black Widow (possibly because at this point Bruce might see her as a personification of the military/industrial complex that's been hunting him for the last several years). Bruce does it with mind games and exploiting the fact that he KNOWS she is absolutely terrified of the Hulk because she can do nothing to stop him; if she tries to fight him he will immediately kill her and if she tries to manipulate him, Hulk will KNOW she's manipulating him and insta-kill her on general principle.
    Fun fact, there IS a character in the MCU noted for killing gods, though it's not Hulk (that said Hulk is fully capable of killing gods). Hulk is more of a World-Breaker.
    More fun Hulk facts! Bruce was subject to incredibly violent child abuse essentially as soon as he was born; his father took Bruce's intelligence as a sign that his son was a monster and violently abused Bruce and his mother (who tried to protect him), instilling in Bruce a deep-seating belief that the abuse was his fault and that he WAS a monster; this was the genesis of the Hulk, gradually emerging in Bruce's mind to protect him by becoming everything he hated in himself to externalize and point at and say 'that monster isn't ME'. The abuse culminated in the death of Banner's mother, which Bruce has spent his entire life blaming himself for. Years later, shortly before the accident that physically created the Hulk, Bruce had a violent altercation with his father at his mother's grave, ending in Bruce murdering his father by smashing his head into the gravestone. It is deliberately ambigious whether the Hulk is responsible, or if in a fit of rage Banner finally let out all the hate and rage seething for 20+ years but didn't want to acknowledge that hate was a part of him.
    At his core, young Bruce always felt he should have been big enough and strong enough to save his mother. Now he is. And everything Banner doesn't want to admit about himself is also true in the Hulk, who is the part of himself he wants to pretend is an outside force. The other part of him, the face in the mirror he doesn't want to see. (Anyway the point of all this is that Hulk-centric stuff tends to be kind of... intense.)

    From this point forward, we go into Phase 2 which, admittedly, is a phase known for it's VERY high ups and it's VERY low downs (luckily, the worst of the phase are around the beginning) because, at the time, it was doing the impossible and Marvel was trying to get it's new footing now that Disney (which bought Marvel just in time for the release of Captain America 1 and to be in control of the MCU as of Avengers) was giving them everything they needed and wanted (well, at least what they could at the time; they couldn't do anything involving the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man yet due to them being owned by other people...heck, there were even shared film rights for Hulk with Universal Pictures and that's why there hasn't been a film starring the Hulk since).

    I don't think the MCU has over-the-top humor. Maybe the humor is a little bit much in Phase 4, but still, there are some really amazing moments that balance all that out. Every phase of the MCU has something really unique to offer. And I think it's worth giving it a chance. If you think about it, these aren't just superhero movies -- they're actually movies about real world problems and they sometimes go very deep into character's thoughts and emotions. Also, I don't think there is ONE movie that is the start of the MCU going "downhill." I just think there are some movies that had more work put into them than others.

    A very important fan theory is that in this movie Loki was mind controlled and tortured with the mind stone by Thanos.
    The reason for that is that in Thor (2011) he tried to kill himself and in this movie he shows up in a bad physical condition wanting to conquer earth and take the Tesseract with an entire army.
    This theory is supported by the fact that in this movie Loki's eyes are blue while in Thor (2011) they are green.
    Plus in future movies while still being a trickster and a bit selfish he is never as villainous. He's basically not the villain but a mild inconvenience at worst and very helpful at best

    The "It's all a joke" thing is a dippy meme going around. The MCU never becomes all a joke. For some reason, the film bros have gone off on the fact that all of the movies from the start have incorporated humor as part of the tone of the series, and some properties lean a little harder into it than others, but yeah. This is what the MCU is like in general, as far as the tone goes.

Some movies absolutely handle the humor better than others but generally speaking I did not find the humor to be a major issue. A lot of the jokes land. Avengers is a good example. So is Iron Man. GOTG stands out precisely because it leans into the humor in a way no other movie in the MCU before it did. Same with Ragnorok. And yet, people act like that was the norm.

      It’s easier to be a Marvel fan when you appreciate a movie for what it is. I’ve become more negative about some of the phase 4 movies just listening to people complaining. But I just try to focus on the positives now and have fun with the movies for what they are. Parts of Thor 4 are enjoyable, and Ant Man: Quantumania and doctor strange 2 have their nice/emotional moments

    12:03 I feel like it’s important to note in these moments that Steve has only months ago woken up 66-67 years in the future ,found out everyone he knows is dead or not got long left and for him he just saw his best friend he’s known his whole life fall to his ‘death’ because he couldn’t save him so I feel like he can get a pass for being a bit serious 😂 although I do think marvel could have done a better job at showing this instead of Steve just sounding really rude through out the movie but one thing I like is when he gets the wizard of oz reference, I mean he looked like a golden retriever getting a treat 😂

    There's are no real bad movies in the infinity saga films (including the one I don't want to mention, people get heated on both sides). But a couple are generic, and the one I won't mention is very much bland and generic film for me but is still OK and not a bad film.
    Even after that, there's still been some very good movies, but it's becoming very hit and miss to an extreme in recent years.

    I randomly feel the need to defend our dearly departed Phil Coulson here. When he says "I watched you when you were sleeping" it doesn't sound creepy and stalkerish (and I think that's the joke) but he means he was monitoring Steve when he was brought out of the ice coma or suspended animation. It was technically part of his job, since we saw SHIELD agents were monitoring him at the end of "Captain America: the First Avenger" and someone had to alert Nick Fury that he was awake.
    But he probably asked for that assignment because he was such a big Cap stan. ;)

    • @liamwarner5749
      @liamwarner5749 Год назад

      Personally I like the theory that its basically convincing someone you are their best friend any anything they tell you just makes sense. So if Loki specifcally told Hawkeye to kill Nick he would but in the absence of that instruction its a "My friend say's we need Iridium and to take down the Helicarrier? Makes sense. Oh my other friend and boss is trying to stop me? He doesn't understand he's in the wrong I'll just take him out without killing him, he'll understand later." Essentialy the same approach a rogue Hawkeye would take in dealing with Fury normally.

I supposed with “downhill” you’re talking about some post-Endgame projects that have been ‘not-so-good’. Not all of them though. The third Guardians of The Galaxy movie that just came out for instance, was awesome and one of the best in the MCU imo.

    Each MCU movie is at least 1 genre. Ant-Man was adventure/comedy. I'm not sure one is romance only, but we have advanture, quest, comedy, spy thriller (as you saw from The Winter Soldier), a buddy movie, war movie (both contained in Cap, The First Avenger), mythology (with Norse Thor and Loki) so on. No, when Fury was recruiting Steve, he bet him that the world is stranger than Steve knows, so when Steve arrived to the bridge of the helicarrier, Steve paid the bet because he lost. No, Jane Foster is a scientist, as introduced in Thor 1. Great reactions.

    Shield was getting Hulk away from Helicarrier. If You have watched 2008 Incredible Hulk You know that in MCU Hulk is angry at last person who attacks/irritates him. So by shooting Hulk in back they knew he would go after the plane and thus leave Helicarrier alone
