If you want more Rodrick, I highly suggest watching the second movie: “Rodrick Rules.” Greg definitely gets his comeuppance at times during that movie

I watched this movie all the time as a kid
Let’s just say that it’s a WILD experience going back to it when you’re older. As a kid, I thought Rodrick was really mean and horrible. Nowadays, he’s the only normal character (plus, he’s hot)
He was the one who awakened my attraction to men with eyeliner
Rodrick is genuinely the best character in these films, that's why the second one is my favorite. (Also because Greg is only slightly less insufferable in that one than the rest)
Rowley’s always been my favorite because he’s a nice kid. He deserves a friend that respects him.

I love how the kid who plays Greg, Zachary Gordon, became a singer, is the voice of gill from bubble guppies, voices in Kingdom Hearts, and is now the voice of Tighnari in Genshin Impact. Small beginnings
He was also on an episode of The Good Doctor where his girlfriend got shot by a robber thanks to the Virgin Surgeon played by Freddie Highmore (best known for playing Charlie Bucket in the Tim Burton Willy Wonka) not cooperating w/ him.
He also voiced a character in Madagascar Escape 2 Africa
My university just put up a statue of Greg Heffley in our student union because the series' author went here and it is the most terrifying thing. For anyone curious just look up University of Maryland Greg Heffley statue and you can see the monstrosity

Even weirder: Angie didn't even exist in the books when this was made! She was literally made for the movie!
I remember when the series first came out. In the first three or four books the author did a pretty good job of capturing that awkward middle school feeling where you're a looser trying to play it cool, but after that he started cranking up the narcissism factor until you get modern Greg Heffley who is just an irredeemable a-hole.
Then there's the 6th book where Manny's psychopathy is revealed when he has no shame murdering his family all because "no one taught him how to tie his shoes".

the sequels are absolutely iconic need to be watched, Rodrick rules is one of my favorite movies ever
So yeah, Rodrick actually gave his brother the most helpful advice ever at the start. Since Greg is a freshman and he needs to play it safe. But no, he ignores his older brother and takes risks to become popular. And to be fair, with how Rodrick can be, it's understandable why Greg ignored the advice.
Believe or not Greg is actually WAAYY better than his book counterpart. Book Greg is heartless.

@@davidkoudelka10hen he decides to let Rowley "take one for the team" he lied to his mom saying that he told the truth and they both go out for ice cream with no regret. Also before Rowley ate the cheese Greg actually lied about being allergic which the bullies believed, so Rowley eating the cheese in the book was actually because of Greg's selfishness and not an unfortunate coincidence

Greg in the books is like a combination of Eddy (Ed, Edd, N Eddy) and Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld) mixed in two. Actually, just began to realize that the book series would have made for a better TV series than a movie series, since each month of Greg's life can be just an episode.

15:22 HUGE departure from the book. Say whatever else you want about him, Zoo-Wee-Mama WAS Greg's idea.
First he wrote and drew everything, then Rowley asked for more to do, so Greg let him draw. He didnt like that, so he let Rowley write the speech bubbles. He didnt like that, either, so they parted ways.
Greg came up with Creighton the Cretin, submitted it and actually won!
BUT the editor of the paper completely changed the cartoon to make it more "educational" for students, to where it was then called Creighton the Curious Student, to where they started calling Greg a suck up, so he pulled the cartoon altogether.
Which is when they replaced it with Rowleys edition of Zoo Wee Mama, and when Greg confronted him about it, Rowley said it was all HIS idea.
Not to mention they changed Greg's idea but left Rowley's intact
Rodrick Rules (The second movie) is the best one of this series, he is an icon and you're gonna love it

The Mother Son dance scene was so awkward because just like Angie, it wasn't in the book! In fact it was the hardest scene they had to film!
The reason? That one shot with them eating ice cream. It kept melting before they could get the shot, and by the end, they had a trash can full of ice cream cones!
The books got so famous here in Brazil that my class would have the cheese touch all year round, and the other grades would too.
The movies didn't get that much recognition, altough I remember watching the 3rd one soooooo many times for some reason

Rowleys parents are safety freaks and won't let him dress up as anything remotely dangerous or violent.
They took off the knight's helmet, cut a hole so he could see better, made him wear a sweater over the rest of it so he wouldn't get cold, put reflective tape on the sweater, and replaced the sword with a glow stick.
I kid you not.
I always HATED that about them and wanted to slap some sense into them.

The books were honestly the most iconic thing in primary school. When it was time to do our mandatory reading ill tell you it was either harry potter or diary of a wimpy kid. And tbh the second option was more popular

My Nephew and I watched this movie a few years ago a few years ago enjoyed how the seasons went by as the story continued very realistically.

As a kid I loved these books so much until I matured emotionally enough to realize that greg was THE WORST and was awful to everyone. The Dork Diaries will forever be superior to me because Nikki is actually a decent person.
This is exactly why I hate Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the most unpleasant movies I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s no wonder why everyone doesn’t like Greg.
Greg becomes more likeable in the 2 movie sequels. In the books he stays unlikeable.
If you want a movie with a good good meaning behind it I suggest 'Wonder', it originally started as a book by R. J. Palacio and the basic meaning of it is 'don't judge a book by its cover' but there's also another meaning to it, but I'd really suggest watching it to figure it out.
Ohh I hope you do watch the other three of those films, each has its great parts for sure.

I read a few of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books when they came out because everyone was talking about how great they were. But I hated Greg's guts right from the start. Any sympathy I would give him was lost thanks to his massive ego and how poorly he treated his only friend. When the movies rolled around my sisters watched them religiously because they thought Roderick was hot, but I could only watch about ten or so minutes before getting up and leaving. This series sparked the cheese touch at my school even though there was no cheese to originate from. I wouldn't be surprised if the series fueled some of the self-centred jerks in my school who acted like they were better than everyone else.
Completely understand. When I was younger, I thought Greg just did dumb stuff. I know better now that I'm older.
TBF to the movies, Greg learns to be a better friend compared to his book counterpart.

In the book he gets out of eating the cheese even easier, just by claiming he's lactose intolerant. For some reason this causes the bullies to not make him do it and then give the rest to rowley instead. Greg is such an ass man.
