Okay, the original is an absolute classic; but Jack Black playing a teenage girl is one of the best things in all of cinema.
And I couldn’t agree more 😂
He’s honestly the MVP here. I know the rock and Kevin Hart get all the attention, but for me Black makes it.
It was one of the few sequels/reboots I actually liked.
He's actually a pretty good actor even though a lot of people don't seem to think so.
@@liamwarner5749 i do think he is a good actor, he also has a great fan base (my husband is one of them) but i really dont like his over the top voice, and sadly it usually takes me out of the character. This and king kong are the only things i have seen him in that i can watch without complaints. (Yes that goes for kungfu panda also, i just cant, and its kinda sad)
Many people don't get this Easter egg: But when the elephant piece was used to symbolize finding Nick Jonas, it actually is.
The Elephant piece belonged to Alan in the original movie, it was his board piece.
And Nick Jonas basically lives where Alan did.
The Elephant was symbolizing Alan.

Can I just say…
I freaking LOVE the concept of the 2017 movie. The idea of the game adapting to a new generation to lure in more victims as if it’s a living entity is actually insanely clever. Not to mention, it’s relevant to today’s audience.
Of course, the original will always be a classic, starring one of the best actors in the history of *ever* and being an important movie in my own childhood, but I think that this was a fantastic reimagining. A definite favorite.
I think it was a great way to continue on the story without making a crummy sequel or a bad remake! It was fun with new ideas while still allowing the original to stay classic!
What I love about the second jumanji movie is it isn't a remake. They could have easily made a modernized remake of jumanji replacing the boardgame with a video game and updating the story but they didn't. They made a movie set after the events of the first movie and the game starts out as the same boardgame before turning magically into a video game so you know it's the same jungle. It also doesn't try to nostalgia pander with cameos and references. It has only enough nods to the original story to confirm it is in the same universe and then tells it's own new story. Disney should take notes!
@jillybelphegor4819 To be fair Zathura was the "space Jumanji" that the author wrote. Both Jumanji and Zathura are separate books by the same author that are in essence a jungle game adventure and a space game adventure. They were diffidently trying to ride the back of Jumanji but it wasn't just a remake cash-in tbh
I think this is supposed to be a “continuation” more than a sequel. We know the game didnt disappear at the end of the original so it’s still around.
I would have just thought after he grew up, he created the video game.
There’s 3 of them but Night at the Museum movies are so enjoyable and they’ve also got Robin Williams in it :D

I consider Jumanji 2017 to be the spiritual sequel to the original personally, but the mark that its a good movie is that you dont have t know anything about the original to enjoy it.
The Robin Williams version of ‘Jumanji’ will forever be iconic and #CampyGoals along with the beautiful comic timing of all the actors. Also, Kirsten Dunst was absolutely fabulous!
The second one IS a sequel to the first one. Technically. It’s the same world and everything, but the sequel is made so it can still be watched and understood without watching the first one. You should watch the third one too tho!!
Okay so the actor playing both the hunter and the dad is not suppose to be a literal link (his dad isn't the LITERAL hunter) but more symbolic. They do something similar in most productions of Peter Pan, with one actor playing father and Captain Hook. It's suppose to symbolize the negative side of fatherhood, the oppressor who causes cowardice in the younger men instead of instilling strength and courage into the next generation. This theme fits for Robin Williams character as his father and the hunter both attempted to instill courage, one from a negative fashion the other from a place of love. Just thought I'd share that sense you seem confused man.

I love the original film (Sarah's freakout at seeing the game is one of my favourite moments) but the 2017 one is also really good in my opinion. Jack Black had me in stitches a few times.
honestly I didn't think the 2017 one would hold up but I went to see it with my friends when it came out and LOVED IT. Its just a fun time tbh
For as much as I adore Robin Williams with literally every fiber of my being. . . the remake of Jumanji was literally my favorite movie for 3 years and it’s the movie I’ve watched the most it’s so funny I love it so much.
In the original, Mr. Parish was played by the same actor as Van Pelt, so you're kinda right, Welchy.

I haven't really compared them since the soft reboot is technically still a sequel to the original one. That said, while the classic one will always have a special place in my heart, above all others, I can not choose which one I like more.
The actor who’s the dad is the hunter as well. He’s a personified version of how his dad made him feel 🤧 he also shares the same name as the hunter in the 2017 version :)

👩👧👩👧👧 If it's of interest, there were also big screen adaptations "Little Women" in 1933 and 1949. If I were to additionally list all of the made-for-television versions that have materialized over the eons, this would be an extremely lengthy post. I think only "A Christmas Carol" has been remade more times. 🥸👍

What commentary? That is the only scene with any illusion to any form of gun control, and it’s a comedically corrupt salesperson. Buying a gun in American is NOTHING like that, unless you run into someone who is willing to break a bunch of laws for some cash, in which case it is just as likely to run into a similar person in any country.

I truly love both. The first one has a very “90’s adventure” feeling and the new is more comedy/action. They did a marvelous job adapting it tho and hired the perfect actors for this.

There is a 2005 film called "Zathura: A Space Adventure" that I think is very similar to jumamji and may be a good watch for you. (Hoping my memory is correct, been a while since I watched it)
Jumanji calls out to kids who need a life changing lesson. Alan was afraid to face his father. And so Van Pelt was the spectre of Alan's dad in Jumanji. That's why Van Pelt and Alan's father was played by the same actor. Jumanji 2017 was an evolution of the original within the same universe. I was skeptical of Jumanji 2017, I didn't see any trailers or anything (not just because trailers suck), and went into the theater rather reluctantly. I think I was the loudest one laughing in the theater and it really surprised me how tender the writers were to the lore.

IIRC the hunter took on the form of Alan's biggest fear and he just made a huge fuckup at his dad's factory so that's why he looked like his dad.

This might not be the right place, but can I suggest a film? “Only The Brave” is a true story about a crew of wildland firefighters (fight wildfires) and how they became regarded as one of the most elite firefighter crews in America. It’s actually a pretty interesting story about how wildfires are fought, plus it’s a true story.
You should watch Zathura. It has nothing to do with Jumanji but the concept is the same. Two brothers stuck in a game set in space and trying to finish it without dying in the process. Is a very underrated movie but I think it was very interesting
Lol loved the reaction to both movies! Each equally funny and action packed. Thankfully the sequel didn’t do a remake and in a way is just as good as the first. Granted the first is sooo much darker to this day those monkeys and mosquitos scare me.
Oh and the sequel’s ending scene when the kids break the game it so the clothes they wore leaving detention. So a weekend later and they can hear the drums even though they broke it.
Now for more Rock movies I recommend Rundown, Walking Tall,Red Notice, The Game Plan, and Gridiron Gang. He started out in the sequel of the Mummy which is a great series to react to. As for Kevin Hart my favorite of his is Fatherhood and Think Like a Man. And yes to the third Jumanji movie Dwayne and Kevin got to stretch their acting abilities in that one and it’s hilarious.
I'm glad u greatly enjoyed both of these movies. But there's still one more.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) is very good as well (actual sequel to 'Welcome to the Jungle')

I was pleasantly surprised to realize the “remake” wasn’t a remake at all but rather a modern continuation THANK GOD. Thought it was a pretty smart move and hilarious too😂

They filmed the 2017 town scenes downtown in my hometown in Georgia, USA. That meant that, in the second movie, when there was snow on the ground... it was completely fake because we don't get real good snow.

The very fact it transformed itself into a video game adds tottaly new concepts into the game. Multiple lives is the big one. Alan went into the game before that concept so he only had one life while he was trapped.

I love Jumanji, my family has an original version of the game which the release after the first film. They have now started selling the games agin after the second new film where released but I love that we on an OG version. fun game to play. Also one time me and my brothers made a fantasy version of the game ourselves.😂

It wasn’t really a remake more like a semi sequel.
I totally recommend watching 1899 series on Netflix. the mix of languages and cultures and the main plot changing drastically... wow.
I watched Zathura a handful of times. And I liked it so much, though I still forget their names ffs.
You should also watch Zathura. That was basically also a jumanji movie. It’s good.
I prefer the original but I do appreciate that the sequel didn't try to be the original and instead evolved the game into an action-adventure video game in the vein of Uncharted/Tomb Raider. I will say I prefer the older one's thriller aspect whereas the new one embraced the comedy. What is nice is that the new one does have a few well-placed easter eggs as well as some 90s nostalgia, my personal favorite is the little Twisted Metal cameo. I enjoy both films for different reasons but the first one will always be my favorite.

I love the original but the 2017 version was great. The problem with Dwayne is that he doesn’t know how to say no to a movie. But he a good actor and has a few great performances. The whole cast was amazing but I definitely think jack black stole the show
