We do 900-1300 ft per day where I am at... when you get a good crew and figure it all out, you will be banging out 1000+ ft a day (6-7) houses and be home before 3. We do 17-20 shovels of sand per mix+ color/fiber+ bag of cement + water. It fills the barrel to the brim just about and gets us 15ish feet per barrel. Our trailer with the mixer attachment and enclosed equipment storage also has sand storage and gives us 6-700ft plus another f550 of sand for another 400ish ft. A 300ft job we use almost exactly 20 bags of concrete and run through 2 pallets of quikcrete a day with just a handful of bags leftover ..

Fiber? Love the 90's. You haven't changed nothing bud. Look to improve your craft and learn some more. What does the amount of footage in a day have to do with mixing. I think you are missing the point of their video. You're also saying you can do 900-1300ft a day, but you're mixer can only hold up to 15ish ft FULL?! Doesn't make sense to me big man. Sounds like you have a Toys R' Us mixer.
A good and normal mix can do up to 20+ ft. I only do around 16-18 shovels of sand for each mix. You're doing a lot wrong big guy. You are all talk LOL. Oh and BTW the 90's called and they want their curb knowledge back.
@@kud6s your reaching a little bit bud get off your high horse. I say 17-20 you say 16-18. And I said on average 15ft . And yea I’ll go back to the 90s where it all started. Where everyone started buying the machines from us, the trailers from us and the bed edgers from us... you can argue all day if you want but your always going to be chasing the leaders . Hey I watch all your RUclips channel and everything is very helpful! I’m located in Ontario and I only have a couple problems if you could help me out if really appreciate it.
How much colouring do you add to a 4 -1 5 gallon bucket ratio.
And after it dries I’ve had a couple issues where it hairline cracks between the cuts. Any help would be appreciated. I haven’t used any hardener would that be why?
the amount of color in mix depends on the shade your going for, differs for every color on the chart. i would need to know the color chart and pics to try help you on that one. when you say hardener what do you mean? any cracking typically is because of lack of back pressure on machine to help it compact, what machine are you using?
Do you have any control on the height of the curb? Or does it depend on how deep you have laid the foundation?

Why not top off the bucket with more Portland
hi, we are basing that bucket on a 47lb bag of portland, that bag only reaches a certain point in the bucket, so the four buckets of sand must also be at the same point.
@borders06 I noticed that.. just seems like a simpler way to teach/explain to a novice that having an extra bag of portland too top off your bucket then all your buckets will be full.. either way counting shovels full into the mixer is the ideal way to go once you establish your shovel per bucket or ratio..
Also I plan to buy some supplies from your company this summer and get some information regarding curbing, stamping. Coloring..

How much super p would you suggest using if it is in liquid form?
thats something you will have to play with, it takes alot more than the powdered version we have, long ago when i used a liquid we put at least 8oz in mix and still doesnt compare to gravy

I went in with a couple of neighbors and bought the northern tool curbing machine. We are going to attempt this ourselves. If I don’t want to mix using sand cement and gravy is there a premixed bag I could use?

1 ton of sand for me will get approx 135 ft of 6x4 slant style curb
Borderline USA well I laid down the first 6 feet of curb. We will see how it turns out with color hardener, release and texture. All I had access to is the Fritzpak 5 and it took care of some of the slump. I ordered some of your gravy and piss. I will see how it works. Thanks again for the help.

Can use both or one, tuff curb def better
If you dry mix sand+portland, and then the plasticizer and color, and then water, you will often find the color will not mix fully and evenly. Result will be a streaky/blotchy curb and to make that more interesting ... you will only see that after the curb has cured - not in the mixer, not fresh out extruder, and not when finish troweling. Ask me know I know this...
The correct order is,
1. after a mix, rinse the mixer with as LITTLE water as possible using the nozzle jet setting - just enough to get the stuck excess off the paddles and corners of the drum. Keep that rinse water in the mixer, and add 1 bucket of sand. do not spin mixer.
2. mix color (and retardant if using) and minimal water in a bucket, stir till fully dispersed in the bucket. set aside.
3. add in 1 bucket of sand to the mixer and try to cover the bottom. do not spin mixer.
4. sprinkle plasticizer (wet or dry type) into mixer. do not spin mixer. LilBubba stuff is great.
5. now add the bucket of color and water evenly. do not spin mixer yet.
6. add in bucket of portland and aim for the center, not the corners of the drum. (I used to add a few scoops extra to compensate for full sand buckets.
7. now spin mixer and slurry thoroughly, shooting a little water with jet nozzle to remove any dry stuck on from paddles/drum corners. spin well and mix should look about like pancake batter.
8. now with mixer spinning, add the other 2 buckets of sand.
9. spin and spray just enough water to your liking. Usually need to carefully spray the paddles and corner of drum too.
Mix will NEVER have poorly dispersed color, mixer stays very clean, your color, admixtures and portland is evenly mixed.
* tip: if you add in a cup or two of flyash or extra portland, you will be able to trowel the curb to a glassy smooth finish that looks like you used slurry. Beautiful.* very little water is necessary, be careful.
Or you could simply keep your mixer well maintained and you won't have to mess with all that nonsense. If you are trying to aim your portland to the center of the mixer so that it doesn't build up in the corners, then you need to adjust or replace your scrapers. We pressure wash our mixer after every job. I replace the scrapers fewer times than most. As with powder color, everyone in the industry already knows this, you're not really educating anyone here. As to getting a smooth glassy finish, just get a trowel without a flared end on the backside like borderline has. I have curbmate equipment and I modified it so that I can use borderline's moulds so I could use the finish trowel. You don't need to slurry to get a smooth finish. That's just another pointless step. Back to color. If you get a color streak as you finish the curb, scratch it off with your finger and pack in more mix. Viola streak gone. I've never had issues of streaks appearing after curb has cured. I hope nobody listens to your idiotic advice. It's way to much time wasted. Keep your equipment spotless, get the right tools and you don't have to go through that mess...

You are no expert, just another moron that thinks he's above the rest. If we had a competion on efficiency, speed, and quality you would get smoked by a large number of companies. Just the fact that you mentioned Little Bubba says that you probably went through their training. Which is subpar to Borderline's and Curb Depot's. That is your first mistake going to a company like Little Bubba, Curb King, and Curbmate. Your second mistake was coming to try and troll a manufacturer that is backed by many curbing companies out there. You just came to look foolish. I can assure you that I will not be the only one to read this and wonder why you are so dumb. Even the first curber I worked for would laugh at you and he's an idiot doing things the wrong way too. Just the fact that you recommeded to use flyash is hilarious. That crap is a mess to work with. IDK why anyone would bother. I seriously hope no one uses your crappy mixing process besides you.

I see what you’re describing.
I’m a mason of 52 years, most likely the reason for streaking is not enough water which not much is required as with brick mortar.
With bricklaying mortar has to have more water and with more water the end result is no streaking.
It’s impossible to spread curbing mud like brick mortar, hence lack of water.🙂

I've been curbing in the states for 20 years and we stopped doing slurry 18years ago because there's way better processes
I think to succeed you need something that you don't hear much.. and that's perseverance. You have to have some kind of business acumen. Having the right equipment is only the beginning.

Glenn Jones. The fact of the matter is this isn’t your company. I don’t care about how you do things because we are different. No one does it exactly the same way they do it how they do it and do it to their liking. If you’re so professional and an expert, then you should be more than capable to understand that some thing work for others rather than yourself right? If this is how you are online I couldn’t help but feel sorry for your crew... probably pay them minimum wage too!
