I bought these after much consideration and this video was highly helpful! This is my second set of Planet Tones and these H Bombs are the most versatile humbuckers I have in my collection. You will not be disappointed!
Oh my god these pickups are so good. I had my first week with them. If you are a single coil lover but want more oomph, h bomb is for you. More bass and mids but with the same sparkling treble . Very articulate and expressive, no mud. It’s a revelation for me because I like the edge of breakup type of gain and the paf humbuckers I have sound so dull.
These pickups sound great. As a strat-player, I am a single-coil guy, but these do sound clear & articulate. Very impressive. Great tone's & playing brother.
Add a 2.2nf capacitor to the tone pot instead of whats in there. And wind the tone knob back and it will tighten the sound even more. It won't take away loads of tone but it will trim the top off the very high frequencies without too much low end effect. Making it sound even tighter and clearer. There is a noticeable difference. This works well from shrill stratocasters
I may have to grab a set of those for one of my guitars and try them out. I'm diggin' the spank and chime, but the fuller bottom end than the TV Jones pickups usually offer. God bless and riff on 👍😎🎸
Thanks! In this case it was super simple, just the AMP1 directly into my interface via my Torpedo Captor, then used an impulse response of my Legend 2x12 with WGS Lead 80 speakers :)
Hi Lucas: as usual, great demo. To my ear, these pickups sound great with clean tones. Remind me of my Tele fitted with Fat 50/Nocaster CS pickups. Vintage drive is fine with both pickups and neck, the bridge sounds just a bit harsh to me: maybe the BluGuitar amp accentuates the treble frequencies too much ...? The modern drive isn't my trip anyway 😉 Planet tone are winding very nice sounding pickups and these are no exception to the line ! Cheers mate
@@LucasFowler Yeah, but those amps…Nothing sounds like them. I had never heard of them until I saw then in your channel. I’d get one except I don’t have anywhere to let them roam freely and make as much noise as they want.
Good question! I think they have a tighter bass response than the SE Starla pickups. They are also a little lower output and more harmonically complex, a bit more mid-forward and "twangy". The stock pickups are excellent though, especially for that price point of a guitar.
You can order them with 4 conductor wiring but they’re low output pickups so a split coil sound may not strong enough without doing a “partial split” mod.
@@josecarlosrodriguez5074 they are different tools for different jobs. The H-Bombs are more clear and twangy, so if you want a sound like that go for the H-Bombs. The Legacy set is more like traditional humbuckers, so if you want a warmer, fuller sound, I would pick those instead. They're both excellent!
Put the toys away and plug straight into a amp with a real cab. Great speakers but you color the sound with digital processing. So I can't tell if I'm hearing a pickup or a modeling processer. I'm not being a snob, I just don't get all the processing these days.

@@Newnodrogbob I never said that it didn't sound good, I just want to hear a pickup straight into an amp to judge it with my own ears, I don't have amp1 and Ir cab modelers and all that, I have a guitar with pickups and an amp to plug into that's how I judge a pickup on how it sounds, if you don't plug straight into the amp your changing the sound somewhat, modeler, pedal, whatever. So maybe I wanna buy a set of those pickups, but I don't have all the fancy computer crap.
YES. That's the metal tone I've been looking for in a pickup FOREVER. Tele + humbucker. These are GLORIOUS.
I was really surprised at how well they held up under all that distortion.

It's like a Strat pickup and a PAF combined with the benefits of both and the detriments of neither. Great demo!
Thanks!
Am imagining how amazing HUM riffs would sound on those pickups.

That PRS is beautiful.
My wife likes it a lot :)
Those really, really sound great.
Thank you Lucas!

Sounds great, and experience with Probuckers? I like them but the neck pickup is trash down low in terms of clarity.

TV Jones makes killer stuff too. I agree, these are slightly more "humbucker" than TV Jones. They have that extra bottom end.
Love your videos Please please, keep adding your signal chain!
Thanks!

The AMP1's vintage mode definitely has an authentic Plexi sound, which is quite "sizzly". Thanks for watching and commenting!
alright...Im sold
What is not shown here is the coil tap version of these pickups. It sounds sooo good and expressive, lime a strat with more bass.
Wow this sounds amazing. Does it have a coil split option?
I'm trying to decide between a few planet tones atm. Leaning toward your sig humbuckers with 4s because of the nice split tone. I like these though...
love the amp 1
That is actually a totally unique metal sound…and I’m not a big fan of that amp. Live to hear those through your Legend.
You *sort of* did hear the Legend, that speaker cab IR was my Legend 2x12 :P

Man, those sound great. Close to my (unobtainable) ideal of the perfect Tele/LP hybrid pickup.
How do these compare to the stockers from the Starla?

Sounds to me like you just described these H-Bomb humbuckers as TV Jones Classic Plus Filtertrons.
They are TV Jones adjacent, but not quite as "Filtertron" as them. A little more PAF than that. But definitely similar!
That's a Paul Reed Smith? That is one Oooogly geetar!
Curious about that SE Starla pickguard ... custom?
It's actually the stock pickguard, I just took it off and applied some contact paper to it, then put it back on. Easy custom pickguard designs :)
@@LucasFowler Excellent idea! I was tempted to vinyl wrap it, so this gives me hope that it might work!
What are the tonal properties of those new glasses?
Slightly smug, I think.
how do these filtertron styple pickups compare with GFS RetroTron pickups? Has anyone compared them??
there are coil split version for
those?

thank you, im wonder which to chose, those or the legacy pickups, what is your recomendation..

No modeling here. The AMP1 is all analog with a nano tube. The impulse is one I made of my real 2x12 and it sounds just like the cab.
Boomer comment😂😂
