- Are these the best PAF humbuckers? Classic tone, sensible price. If you want classic tone at a sensible price then you should seriously consider the Tonerider Alnico II classics PAF humbucker set. These PAF humbuckers have alnico II magnets, 7.5k ohms in the nek, 8.3k ohms in the bridge and only cost £90!
A vintage PAF is generally between 7.5k and 9k ohms and probably uses an Alnico II or Alnico V magnet, however studies into these shows they also frequently used Alico III and Alnico IV magnets.
We shot these Tonerider PAF humbuckers out against the Gibson Burstbucker 1 and 2 set which is stock in a Gibson Les Paul standard and what I consider my favourite humbuckers, Monty's Guitars Full Monty in the bridge and Monty's Guitars Retro Wind in the neck.
These budget PAF humbuckers really shone when playing individual notes, so if you're looking for the best budget PAF or a Gibson PAF alternative then these are probably the best option.

Would have been nice to hear the guitars in tune
Yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think you would have spent some effort in TUNING. Each was way out of tune!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this concept for a video, but please friends, tune that guitar! It's so hard to focus on anything else when my ears are so focused on it not being in tune.
I would try tuning it before changing pickups, you might be surprised
Pls tune the guitars before and set the intonation correctly
Ever heard of a guitar tuner???
Suppose it’s only fair that all guitars were out of tune 🤷♂️
Be nice if you were IN TUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can you get multiple guitars that far out of tune all in the same way?? It’s almost like you guys are just gear gear gear and don’t really actually play….
Can't believe we have two guitars dudes, playing guitar on a guitar themed yt channel and they play three guitars which aren't in tune...... Bloody hell
My CV Squier Strat Deluxe HSHS came with a set of these (alone with the Tonerider Surfari in the mid position) back in 2014. Glad to see others are finally discovering what I learned nearly a decade ago!
Awesome video. Those pick ups sound awesome
Just goes to show how excellent the Tone Riders are, I have used used them for years and ive always been impressed by the quality for the price. I have monty's in a les paul too and I love them equally.
Toneriders actually sound incredibly great!
it's great to know that you don't need to break the bank to obtain a decent bucker, for some us mortals who don't own Les Pauls but Les Paul types like my Vintage V100 this is a perfect upgrade definitely something I will be looking at in the future along with the pots and switches
Great review guys! I dropped in a set of Tonerider AC2's to replace Burstbucker 1&2 in my 2022 Gibson LP Standard. I found the BB's were way too bright and I could never dial them to my liking. I find the AC2's neck pickup can be quite dark for playing clean (through a Fender style blackface) so I usually use an EQ pedal to bring out some of the brightness and clarity. If I'm using a drive or fuzz pedal, the bassy-ness it has makes for an awesome tone. You kinda get the best of both worlds when you use an EQ pedal with this pickup. The bridge pickup is fantastic. This set are not going anywhere for a looooong time!
i was surprised by the "open sound" of these pic ups. they are great.
Iron gear are another amazing budget pickup I have in a few of my guitars and they absolutely hold their own and build quality is expensive pickups are a farse👌definitely needed a tune up tho
Amazing quality from tonerider
Is this a blind test on which guitar is in tune?
