First rate review. Lovely sound from those pickups. Thanks for micing the cabinet with a 57 - most of us know it, and the tone comparison is that much more useful.
Hi Lucas! Just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your videos! You do product evaluations very well, demonstrating their capabilities under all equipment settings possible, and you are honest and fair about them. And I must say you are one hell of a player! You got great technique, fantastic tone, and after 44 years of playing, I can tell when a player can make any song their own, and you are definitely great at that! This demo you have presented here has sold me on Planet Tone pickups, and am considering the Elite Pro set you have evaluated here. Keep up the good work!
Still awaiting these pickups for my Strat. I ordered the Alnico II’s for the middle and neck pickups and the Alnico V for the bridge, orange cap, cloth wire, and a tortoise shell pick guard. I can’t wait to have a new and better set of pickups and these seem to sound what I’m hearing in my head. And if I can’t get that tone, I’m sure my gigantic pedalboard can give me some help… I discovered pedals about 6 months ago and have enough to completely fill my entire Temple Audio Trio 43. (HUGE) Before that it was guitar - to - wah - Marshall #2204 (a really magical one!!!) and that how I got my tone for years ,but pedals lit a fire under my butt and now I have about 40 “quality” pedals. Can’t wait for these pickups!!! Best Lucas! ✌🏼
Awesome sounding pickups (but your playing and natural ear probably have more to do with that than just the pickups). If I still had my Strat, I would definitely look into these. Considering one of their Tele sets now.
I've watched this video a few times now, and I love these pickups. I have a Squier Vintage Modified Strat, and they have Duncan Designed Pickuops in it. They sound good, but these will go in the strat very soon. Great playing too.
Okay Lucas, I just pulled the trigger on a calibrated set of these, but I’d ordered the “loaded pick guard” in tortoise. These sound terrific and can’t wait to put these in a cheaper Strat, that happens to play brilliantly, but sounds like…POOP. 💩 We’ll see how it goes. Best! ✌🏼
Why would you want to play like Vaughn when you can play like you so well. I absolutely loved this pickup review 👊 Easy to see why Planet Tone have harnessed you for their demo. Subscribed.
Great great review! you Steve tone is great! are you planning to review the 57 humbuckers? I think people would dig it and it there is no proper demo for the 57 on youtube.
I don't currently have a set of 1957s, I will let Planet Tone know some people have requested it and we'll see if I can get a set of those to demo in the future. Thanks!
sweet tunes there Lucas .I have a ESP series 400 strat with the ESP custom shop neck that looks like your strat .Now im thinkin Plant Tone for it ha ha ha
I'm gettin a set with my Stimulus check! I'm going to pair them with a King Tone switch! Do you think that will accentuate or numb the pickups? Awesome demo!!!
Checked the site last night. Now think I'll place a order. I'm using vintage noiseless now . Very nice vid. Know they are the elite set but which one are they. They three sets.
Planet Tone has yet to disappoint me. I have 6 sets (5 different, I have 2 sets of the Full Throttle/78' Pasadena) and they are all terrific! If you order some, be sure to tell them you saw my demo!
Lucus I wasn't sure at first but you convinced me I completely agree with you those sound great so go ahead and DM me and I'll give you my address so you can send me that guitar!
You have to build one for yourself to make it special :) Its just a Mexi strat body with an allparts neck, but I refinished the body in Nitro and then played it hard!
I'm not entirely sure if it's a single action or double action rod. Its an Allparts SRO Fat neck. I do think the way they mount these in the neck from the heel has an effect, Bill Nash keyed me into that one. Its a pain in the butt to adjust, but since the neck is so chunky it doesn't move much so I rarely have to adjust it. I just told Jose over at Planet Tone what I was looking for in a strat pickup and he wound those for me. I believe they are Alnico V staggered mags in this set.
I don't currently have a DG set, but I'll be happy to do a demo if Jose over at Planet Tone wants to send me a set. I'm hoping to try a set of the new Supremacy HD pickups soon!
True, Jesse, but I just installed some Planet Tone ‘69 Voodoos last week and that ol’ guitar is getting lots of good things that it didn’t get before last week! Amazingly awe-striking pups. Especially in dynamic sensitivity to attack. Wow!
Hey Lucas, I noticed that Planet Tone's website offers these as Alnico 2 and 5 (I could be wrong), which ones did you get and where did you place them? For example would you put the Alnico 2's in the Neck and Middle, and an Alnico 5 in the bridge?
Well the set I have in mine are all Alnico 5 mags, but it depends on what you want. I would recommend asking Jose at Planet Tone about which mags you should go with, he can do a better job helping you than me with that :P
More of a tuning tweak. I use staggered locking tuners on that guitar, so the string tree isn't necessary. Just one less place the string can bind and go out of tune.
Aha! A bias! Jk, thanks for including the definitive pos 4 licks there, I don't think anyone can accurately gauge how good a strat pickup set is without covering that ground These are definitely worth looking into
It's a little confusing, but it's actually a little cheaper to buy a calibrated set. They are $40 a piece, so $120 for 3, or $110 if you buy a calibrated set. I always recommend the calibrated sets unless you have a very specific thing and you KNOW you want something different.
Mine are the Alnico V version. They all sound great, but I really dig the V's in my guitar. Jose can help you pick which one you would like best as well!
@@LucasFowler Hi Lucas. Only took me 7 months to order these very same pickups. but I just did listening to this video. Again thank you for helping me decide.
Lucas, I'm a fan of PT pickups too and I've never used HELIX, but those preferring tube amp aren't just using their eyes. Ears are subjective, and objectively, tube amps have mojo just in their history, how they helped get rock'n'roll and the blues to the ears of the world. Tube amp makers know their shit. Wanna make a comment like that, say something more appropriate, like, 'Personally I prefer Helix'. Knocking tube amp fans makes you sound like a dick, not like any kind of tone authority. Planet Tone hired you for your guitar skills. Stick to it. Otherwise... great review, but like a great song or a great book, one little fucked up section can ruin the whole thing.
I didn't knock anyone for being a tube amp fan, I am a tube amp fan(note the tube amps behind me in all my videos). My point was, often people comment on how great a tone is, because I don't immediately say it's from the Helix. When I lead off with saying I'm using the Helix, people comment on how digital it sounds. Also, Planet Tone didn't "hire me", I work with them on a very casual basis. "Otherwise... great review, but like a great song or a great book, one little fucked up section can ruin the whole thing." So basically you liked the content but I hurt your feelings by saying something you didn't like?

Play ‘em through a shoe box for all I care, you’d be hard pressed to find better pickups at any price point period! Thanks for another great demo🤘🏻✌🏻
I keep preaching the word of Planet Tone's stuff. I've played A LOT of pickups and they are still my favorite.

Sounds killer. I could not dream of playing like that and making single coils sound good. Your playing + Planet Tone for the win!
I most definitely have to get in the zone to get the single coils working, much harder to play than humbuckers!
Planet tones awesome ;) Pickups for every occasion
I love their stuff!
Awesome sounding pickups (but your playing and natural ear probably have more to do with that than just the pickups). If I still had my Strat, I would definitely look into these. Considering one of their Tele sets now.
they sound great, my pickups were ordered from planet tone 5 + weeks ago and haven't seen hide nor hair of them yet
That is something they have a little trouble with sometimes, sinc they are all wound by one guy. They will be worth the wait!
cool, I was getting a little concerned, but certainly not overly so
Just placed an order. Great customer service there. Will let you know how they work out!
Awesome, I hope you dig them!

Good ear!

Lucas - check out Marty's video on achieving the SRV sound using 2 tube screamers...
That (yours) was a great demo!
I will definitely watch it!
Ok! I’m sold! Great demo!!
These are the Alnico V version of the Elite Pro strat set. I highly recommend them :)
Lucas Fowler I ordered the Alnico II. I’m sure I’ll love ‘em.
Great video! Are these Alnico 2, 3 or 5?
Alnico V

You can never go wrong with Planet Tone pickups IMO, that's why I decided to endorse them!
Great video very good demo ! Which PT set would you recommend for 70-80’s hard rock

@@LucasFowler Well do.
Hi Strat Hippy! The set Lucas is playing is the Elite Pro Staggered with Alnico 5 magnets. :) Thank you!
@@planettone2836 I was wondering what magnets those were, good to know!

Solid nasty ripping pickups!

I don't currently have a DG set, but I'll be happy to do a demo if Jose over at Planet Tone wants to send me a set. I'm hoping to try a set of the new Supremacy HD pickups soon!
Great video. I will have to check those pickups out. Hey where is your wife? You two work so well together. Kind of missed her in this video.
Thanks! She'll be back, I don't usually bring her into the gear demos and reviews since it would be a waste of her talents :P
@@LucasFowler I see your point. Still a great video. Thanks
Great video, guitar sounds awesome, but the player makes the tone
That is definitely true, these just do a great job of not getting in the way :P

I'm fairly certain these are Alnico V's, but Jose at Planet Tone can tell you for sure :P

pls do a lesson over your SRV licks that you do a lot (you know the ones) and where to throw them into a song
I'll add that to the list. I'm not a great teacher, but I'll do my best :P
was this the plain elite, or the elite with the mixed alnico's across the set of pu's?
Why is there no string tree on your strat? Is it a tone tweak?
Nice strat tones here for sure
More of a tuning tweak. I use staggered locking tuners on that guitar, so the string tree isn't necessary. Just one less place the string can bind and go out of tune.
Man those pickups clean up nice!
Are these staggered, non staggered, alnico 2 or 5? Nice tones and playing !
These are staggered AlNiCo V mags. I love them!
Thanks!
Hi my friend yes maybe kind of pedalboard us deluxe tanks
These appear to come with 4 magnet choices. Do you recall what type is used in your pickups? Thanks. Edit: Found where you said Alnico V.
Yep, you got it, these are Alnico V mags.

ok but are these Alnico II III or IV? trying to buy a Loaded Pickguard it has these options.

Hi can you make more videos about Helix
Is there something specific you'd like to see about the Helix?
Which magnets did you get?
The ones Planet Tone sent me are AlNiCo V mags if I'm not mistaken.
I smell opening jam of SRV Montreux ‘85...🤔
A little of that "Say What?" action :P
Say What!?
You've got to be the only guitar related channel that has ripped out some KWS...lol
