This is one very iconic performance. These two very long time musical partners,and lovers. These two who worked so hard for so long, and were above the average age, of other kinds of explosive, talented successful rock superstars, by the time they had become recognized,well deserved musicians and songwriters. Because they never gave up. You think of how they'd humbled themselves. Were so poor (homeless at times.) Drove a car (when they were finally able to get one) that couldn't be driven in reverse. Slept on couches, and anywhere they found someone nice enough to allow them to sleep over. Stevie worked 2 & 3 jobs as Lindsay worked on their songs all day,and they both. worked on them all night. She cleaned people's houses for barely enough money for food and gas. Or to just have a roof over their heads. Opened for so many great bands. Thought they'd finally made it with Buckingham/Nicks, and Polydor dropped the album. They went through so much together. Good bad and ugly. You have to think, these are two people who were on the streets together, barely scraping by,and surely went hungry on more than one occasion. But, they still kept truckin'. They worked so hard,still. And loved each other,through it all. To ,then become so successful, but lose that total love,and bond they'd built, pulling one another through the field of thorn-bushes, and quicksand for 8 years...Then you can begin with all the crazy Fleetwood Mac,break-ups, and affairs, insulting songs, about one another,and having to sing back up on them? Think of all of that, then watch this video again... It makes those breaks, in Lindsay's voice ("just a dream just a dream"), and those tears, streaming down Stevie's face so much more valid...
Star crossed lovers never end up together. They live the rest of their lives without each other. Sad but true. 😔 As she said in Silversprings....she'll say she loved him years ago and tell herself he never loved her. That's a coping mechanism. I do it everyday 😔 😟 🙁 😥.

It seems in all the various live versions the “time within a time, a scheme within a scheme, little world within a world, just a dream, just a dream” is what catches them emotionally each time. Given that in the introduction Lindsey refers to the importance of illusion it got me thinking whether he’s referencing Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “A dream within a dream”. It certainly matches the heady subject matter. And we know how much Stevie loves poetry. Just a thought (just a thought).

I think they absolutely belonged together but Stevie wasn’t able to make that commitment at such a young age. Lyndsey on the other hand was beyond ready and never stopped loving her. Probably never will. I hate to admit that I too was in her shoes at 18 and also wasn’t able to make that commitment and broke a heart of a good man. So sad as the years go by and as he so beautifully said: I say goodbye to you. I cry every time I watch this video. I finally see the love in Stevies eyes.
What it must do to you inside to never express/acknowledge something so profound n precious is hard to imagine. For such a spiritual person it goes against all she must hold true.
