For clarification, the characters are equivalents of teenagers (for each of their respective monster types. Draculaura’s around 1600, I can’t remember how old Cleo is but she’s also a few thousand years old, pretty sure Lagoona and Clawdeen are 15/16ish, etc). Frankie’s the only one who’s literally two weeks old because she was physically MADE, like stitched together and everything. She’s still the equivalent of a teenager, because that’s the way she was made, but she really doesn’t know much
Also, Cleo is a MASSIVE bitch in the beginning. She gets development later on. Still kind of a bitch, but in a good way

@@Jaysp9 That doesn't make any sense though because that would make her older than the estimate of when the first Pharaoh ruled Egypt? Like, before the existence of the Egyptian empire? She should be somewhere between 2500-4000 years, because that would make her younger than the Pyramids and older than Cleopatra (who was the last Pharaoh of ancient Egypt).
To narrow it down we can look at her father, who is canonically named Ramses. All three Pharaohs that were named Ramses lived around 1200 BC, so I feel like Cleo, her sister and their father should all be around 3200 years old.

Cleo's behavior: She has a very long character arc development where she starts out exactly as you originaly predicted in Boo York, just super self absorbed, full on princess complex, etc. And eventually reaches the place she is in Boo York
Deuce: Pretty much the same way, he started off way more class clown ish and has some growth throughout the series.
Birthdays: Different species age at different rates, vampires age very slowly, and Frankie started at highschool age bc she was created by her dad, Frankenstein's monster, who decided he wanted a daughter and just made her.
Lagoona's brain comment: It's a monster school, some of them literally don't have brains lol. Don't question how they still function, they just do.
Episode format: These were originally aired as like teasers and just filler episodes, there are eventually others that are longer and have more cohesive plot. I think the first one was New Ghoul In School? Something like that
Monster High: Yes it is a one of a kind school as mentioned in Boo York, it' not the only monster school, it's just the only one that accepts _any_ monster. The rest are like vampire schools, and werewolf schools, yeti schools, etc. Each caters to a specific type of monster. There's actually a whole movie about the founding of Monster High where the main gang goes back in time to help out, it's fun.

So, the reason Cleo acts differently to how she did in Boo York is that these mini episodes are from the very beginning of Monster High, and they changed Cleo's character later on. The reason was, as far as I'm aware, that a lot of girls liked Cleo so the creators decided to make her a better person, because otherwise she would've had a bad influence on children

The way Frankie’s limbs work is never explained, but to me I think it’s a combination of Frankie being made up of various people, the electrical signals running through those limbs being somewhat magic since most monsters in this series run on some kind of magic, and maybe the phantom limb phenomenon where maybe her hand still feels like it has a whole person attached to it so it can do what it wants based on the placebo effect? This is why you don’t try to make sense of Monster High, you just let the cool fashion, dark aesthetic, and interesting characters wash over you 😅

Lagoona is a saltwater monster, while Gil is a freshwater one, and their respective kind have a very troubled past. This doesn't come as an issue for Lagoona's family, who are actually very openminded and supportive, but Gil's parents were relentless in trying to separate them, going from enrolling Gil in another school or threatening to find a job far away so they could move.

For example Cleo was trapped in a pyramid and was let out recently. The world is very different than ancient Egypt so she needs to become acclimated same with some vampires and old ghosts. Unlike EAH, Monster High doesn't really have a built in plot, so most of Volume 1 of the Moster High shorts are disconnected and don't have an overarching plot, but Volume 2 does. There are multiple plot threads and characters that are developed in Volume 2, and it feels like it's actually is going somewhere.

Yeah they started with simple one off episodes to show the base characters and personalities, then they did webisodes with an overarching plot, then started with the movies, then the movies kind of connected and continued its own storyline, all throughout developing the characters into more rounded characters. Cleo started as the typical Mean Girl bully, but as a new mean girl Toralei appears, Cleo basically learns to be more of a team player and develop. You have to start with “The New Ghoul At School” special that introduces all the characters officially, then watch the Volume 2 connecting story webisodes that REALLY start the overarching lore and go from there. 🙌🥰💖 LOVE seeing more of this! Omg more Monster high yes!!! So, some context. The original monster high movies and the webisodes are a bit tricky in that they sometimes seemingly contradict each other? I don't know it's hard to explain. But the webisodes are more just random moments throughout monster high while the movies are more thought out and with a longer plot. In 2016, monster high goes through a reboot with a new kind of storyline, two new movies (different animation style) and new episodes. Character personalities mostly stay the same but they've got slightly different stories as well as the school itself has a different story. Then fast forward to 2022 and we have a revival of Monster High. New Characters, new looks, some personality changes and backstory changes, new school, new characters, and 2 live action musical movies (thus far.) It can be a lot to take in and the three different generations could leave someone confused without context.
Also, Frankie as the child of Frankenstein's monsters, is sent to school 15 days after they were created. It's a thing unique to them because they were created the same way Frankenstein's monster was created. Although they never really add days throughout the story, they always just say Frankie is 15 days old.

No, Frankenstein is Frankie's GRANDFATHER. He was the very first person to create a frankenmonster (naming those type of simulacrums), who was Frankie's dad, Viktor Stein. Afte that, he created the lattest's wife, Viveka. Viktor and Viveka became scientists themselves and, after gathering the necessary parts and circunstances, they decided to build their own child, Frankie.

I reccomend you skip the rest of volume 1 & just watch "new ghoul @ school" followed by volume 2 of the webisodes. Volume 1 just establishes the concept of "teen comedy but monsters". "New ghoul @ school" is the actual "pilot" episode that explains everything, & volume 2 is when they start doing multi-episode plotlines & expanding the characters' relationships.
Another thing to look out for is that a lot of characters are introduced in the movies & then appear in the webisodes w/ the expectation the audience already knows who they are (or the reverse, they get introduced in a webisode & then show up in a movie as if they've always been there). It's usually side characters who don't affect the plot much, but it can save you some confusion to watch the webisodes & movies in tandem.

Multiple people have already said this but at the beginning of the Monster High series Cleo was a stereotypical mean girl, I don't remember exactly when but she progressively gets more character development (why she was nicer in boo York boo york, that movie came out in the last two or three years of the original monster high) also there isn't as much as a clear plot in these episodes? To get overarching stories you'd have to look at playlists since they're spread out across each episode (ex. Jackson and Holts storyline, Hoodude's storyline, etc.). The playlists are on the Monster High RUclips channel.

Frankie maybe a reanimated corpse of an explorer who died a VERY pain and gruesome death 3. Gil's parent's are specist! 4. Cleo is like DECADES old. 5. Pennywise... may exist in their universe, there was a crossover doll they made in a collaboration with "It" he has a daughter! And if that doll is a canon character THAT means Pennywise is real in their world and if Pennywise is real.... WHO ELSE IS?!?!?!?!?!

The substitute teacher is a human in a monster school, which is why he’s not well respected and why he doesn’t respect the students. He wouldn’t have believed Deuce even if he did warn him about his powers since Mr. Zaar thinks all of them are freaks anyway. He probably would’ve taken it as an excuse. He doesn’t seem to have an understanding of his environment nor does he seem to want to either. I believe he is the only normie teacher at school, aside from Mr. Hack who acts more monster than human (partially since he was based off of Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.)

  • @katestatt
    @katestatt 6 месяцев назад +1

concerning the ages of the monsters:
Frankie is only 15 days old because she was made from different body parts and she was modeled to be a teenager, she already knows how to walk and speak and stuff, so she's not a baby, she can already go to school cause mentally she's already 15 years old and her individual body parts too probably.
with Draculaura it's sorta the opposite, she was turned into a vampire when she was like 16, so she retains the emotional maturity of a teenager. and it's common in vampire fiction for the vampires to go to school over and over again to stay up to date on current social ettiquettes and rules.

    1. Cleo gets character development by the time of Boo York, which is one of the later movies
2.Frankie was created, so she can be a "teen" while only technically existing for a few weeks
    3. lots of zombies, that speak zombie and are slow.
    4. Frankie isn't necessarily judging him for the amount of eyes, that's just not her type, which is fair.
    5. draculara hasn't always been at monster high, is a vampire, so she ages differently ( 1 century = 1 human year approximately) also the amount of specific events doesn't mean the age of the school, just how long they've been doing that event.
    6. they retcon draculara's birthday later in the series.

Not gonna mention all the other stuff people mentioned - like Cleo being mean earlier episodes and getting progressively better after a major character arc.
10:20 To be fair she is 16 days old and her father is a crazy white man scientist. Obviously she would be racist against 8+ eyes people.
11:40 It's less than cartoon, it's doll advertisement. Kinda shocked they made it into more expanded storylines and even made Ever After High ofshoot.
14:30 Love how Cleo is still kinda looking, to see the effect and get a good look at her boyfriend as well. I guess as a mummy, she isn't as scared about curses. Not to mention she is the classic c-wordy b-word archetype.
17:20 Its easy to forger every day events, when you are an Immortal vampire living for 1600 years.
19:00 Sounds like normal high-school. The amount of murderous teenage boys that can't control their body parts is quite shocking.

You have to understand that at the beginning of the show all the characters have set personalities that as the series goes on changes I think that there are like eight movies or something, with boo York being one of the newer ones if you don't count the reboot which a lot of people don't because that's a whole separate thing, but in terms of the original show with the original characters and character arcs, stories etc as the movies go on they get a bit more depth and the stories able to progress a bit more in the longer format, also the movies have a different artistic style as you can probably tell from watching the show, but I highly recommend watching the movies if you want a bit more deaths and stories, the little episodes are really good though but it just depends on personal preference, if you do want to start by watching the movies I recommend the Halloween movie first then the Valentine's Day and roller maze movies followed by the island movie then New York movie then the one with Dewjulira And I think that's all the ones from the old series that match up with these episodes, I haven't said the names of the films because there's too many puns and they're hard to spell, but hopefully my descriptions will help you went finding the names of the films to check out if you want to watch them.

Frankie was made as a "teenager" and put straight into school, there should be episodes of her first few days and explenation about that.
