Thank you!!! I’ve been trying to make myself a backpack and I’ve frogged and re-started this project 4 times, but this is so perfect! I’ve tripled my yarn and I’m using a 9mm hook because I want it to work up fast because I’m getting impatient (lol), and I wanted to use double crochets but hated how there were these massive gaps in between the stitches. Now I can work it up quickly without any gaps! I also was having issues with previous attempts being too stretchy so this is great for that too. You’re a lifesaver!!!❤️❤️❤️

@@WindingRoadCrochet I made a little swatch and it really is that easy (for me). So far, only linen stitch seems to be able to achieve that, and that takes ages to finish…

Im going to use this for the no touch face masks that are being made. Idk if I will ever go back to regular dc after seeing this. Thank you. I have never liked the holes! But I do love the speed DC offers. You should just call this the Lacy stitch because I think I will be putting it to use quite constantly. I wish I had found this before making my sweet papa his sweater I'm about to finish.
Very nice. Thanks for the tutorial. Perhaps you could use the first stitch of the row to replace the chain 3 at the beginning of a regular dc row. I'm going to try it when I start a new project. Have a great day.
Ramona Grace I don’t have a video for it yet, but a standing double crochet would work well, though I did notice that this stitch leaves a very straight edge.

Yes, this same concept works with treble crochet. Normally double crochet can make a very heavy blanket that will still keep you warm. But if you have a fan going in the room, the breeze would still come through the gaps and could make you cold.

And it shows in my first project where it started off at 60 in wide and ended at almost 70in, I loosened up a lot in that project once I got comfortable with the habit of crocheting.
I also like this stitch very much . I love the way you do the first turning chain/double crochet, so it is sturdy and there is no gap. I do have a question, though - you said your starting chain was 12 chains. Then you worked your 1st turning chain/double crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook. When you worked your linked DCs across the row, you said your row has 12 linked DCs. How do you end up with 12 DCs when you started your row in the 3rd chain? Don’t you have to add two chains to your starting chain to end up with 12 stitches in the first row? I always have trouble working out these numbers.
You are figuring it out correctly. It would need to be 14 ch to have 12 stitches. It was just a sample swatch so I am not sure if I had 12 sts and started with 14 chain and just misspoke or if I had 12 ch and only 10 stitches.

You could use any border, just work a row of single crochet evenly around the sides first. Since it has a double crochet height I would work 2 SC into the side of each row, but use your best judgement. I think I remember having to work 1 SC into every 6th row instead of 2.
How many more linked dc stitches did you have to add to get the width to be the same as a normal dc using your I hook and worsted yarn using the patch you made on the video as an example? That's my go-to hook and yarn for most things I make. thanks.
It is hard to say. It makes a tighter stitch so you can move up a hook size. That would result in less yarn. If you are swapping this for a double crochet in a pattern then it would take up a little more yarn.
It is hard to say for sure. This creates a tighter stitch so you have to go up a hook size. I would say it uses a smidge more yarn because it hooks into the last stitch, but since you are using a larger hook, each stitch is larger so the project gets done faster.
Hello, great tutorial. I have a question though. Can we use this in replacement of the dc stitch? I really want to make a bag but i am afraid if won't work
