- "Alaskan Suite" is a song from Lyle Mays, the first solo album by Pat Metheny Group keyboardist Lyle Mays, self-titled, and released in 1986. The album was recorded at The Power Station in New York in 1985. The album has had re-releases in 1993, 1998, and in digital format in 2010.
I can't understand that more have not understood the genius of this composer
Something very rare left the world when Lyle passed.
Maybe one day, retrospect will hold Mays as one of the greatest - sort of underappreciated during his time like so many important composers.
Anyone who has heard him play in whatever context will never forget the beauty and brilliance of this man's musical world. A tremendous loss for humanity.
I totally agree Joseph!

Will live on inside of us we only need to listen. In this moment....be with what is.. the best...
This album was a stunning experience for me. I understood the greatness of this master not only on keyboard playing but especially on composition. I've been listening great music during the last 35 years, from soul to jazz to classic and I can say that Lyle Mays is a giant of modern music...I'm so sad he passed away
Assolutamente d'accordo... Andai letteralmente in estasi.... Il giorno dopo prenotai di corsa l'LP e me ne appropriai, ascoltandolo e riascoltandolo per giorni, settimane, mesi... E riascoltandolo oggi, ho provato le stesse identiche emozioni...
Such haunting music. I was born at Elemndorf Air Base, in Alaska in 1953. My mom said Alaska was beautiful!! And so is this suite
Il capolavoro per eccellenza di Lyle Mays.
Gives you to think about things and times in your life to me Beautiful music😂😅❤
Iconic piece...Just in my magic list since 80' 🌈🍄
Tremendous talent. Saw Lyle when he was with Pat Metheny in the early 80s, the one time they performed in Victoria, BC. Watched the first show - then went right to the box office and bought tickets to the second show, starting an hour later. Magic.
My Man🎉😅😅❤
One of my favourite compositions.... absolutely superb pianist and composer Lyle who was the cornerstone for guitarist Pat Metheny and his group... I will be playing this for a long long time... the 70s and 80s were the musical times for me... what more can I say for Lyle, he was simply wonderful and creative, good that I have his music ....Malcolm Hopkinson in Toronto, Nov 2023
One of the greatest Musician, Lyle Mays......
Extraordinary, who ever put this together is a stroke of genius.
Rest in peace maestro. Stunning.
I've been listening to this since 86 when it was released... One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard... Genius next level... Really miss this guy... Glad he left us with these..💎✌🏾💜. It's all about the layers.
the only reason why god gave us ears to listen to music.
Magic Lyle, Magic Sound e Music !!! 🌟🌟🌟🎶🎶🎶💖
My favorite member of the Pat Metheny Group. In his honor, I'd like to place an apple Power Book atop a Steinway Grand, as he did.
Played this album to death. Just couldn't get enough of it. Was a favored 'companion' on a '86 x-county adventure.
Great driving/cruising music and all-around 'Soundtrack to life'!
the actual musical companion of this masterpiece is its "prequel" as falls wichita, so falls wichita falls, by Pat & Lyle.
As sublime as a new morning. With only a hint of a hidden storm . Brilliant 💎
This song is simply beautiful! Thank you Lyle for all your talent! May you continue to Rest in Heaven!
For me this is one of the ten most beautiful musical incursions in the history of modern jazz and this record, which I have on vinyl is a masterpiece of Jazz... Lyle is a genius and it's no wonder he paired it with another "point out of curve"...the genius Pat Metheny.
A great Genius
This man was a genius up there with the very best.
February 10 was a truly sad day for all musicians in the world. RIP Lyle Mays ...
So sad to hear the passing of the great Keyboard/ Synth Master...Thank you for all your amazing talent and music.
Oh my stars, my heavens. What a terrible loss. The end of an era.
To me, his long fantastic solos on acoustic piano was his strongest card.

Thank you for posting this and making me remember how cool this is, super cool video work too! If you don't feel an overwhelming of emotions when the spooky winter wind/cool oboe/ Lyle Mays sound around 3:35 mark , you might want to get your heart checked ....... Peace from Detroit MI.

state of art album !
R.I.P. Lyle.
Unforgettable. Thank you for the music.
Great composition and playing! Way beyond.
The best.
Siempre en nuestros corazones su música.❤️❤️
R.I.P.
the run-up to, and the actual change (at 8:58 ) is the most sublime ever recorded, imo. and i like my changes. definitely the centerpiece of the suite. also, i can't get enough of Frisell here. literally. he's used sparingly as a counterpoint, to the degree that gets me practically begging for more... but i don't ever quite *get* more. in other words, perfectly. Lyle Mays was a genius lost too soon, and his Alaskan Suite is a tour de force; a masterpiece.
Lyle was a great musician and influenced by another great Keith Jarrett, who Pat Metheny said was one of their favorites. Safe journey Lyle.
Fine music congratulations mrNelson1963
Sorry to hear he passed away... wusb.fm NY
Lyle i love you❤
Lyle music make me High likes nobody does.......
I thought this my fav, then came EBERHARD
Wonder what Bach would have thought.?
No disrespect but Lyle always seemed to look quite frail. Him and Pat their compositions (kind of always sounded harmonically in the same bag chord wise and rhymically the same. Lyle was a genius acoustic pianist. Metheny's first album with Jaco was his best. The same with San Lorenzo.
