  • How to Breathe Properly in Boxing and Stay Relaxed | In this video Tony shares some tips on how you can breathe properly while boxing. Breathing is something that we do every single day without even thinking about it. This is why it is very important in boxing but it is hard to do. It is hard because it's probably natural to think that if you are going to punch you have to hold your breath and be tense, but it is the opposite. To get more power in your punches you need to breathe and to get more speed in your punches you need to be able to breathe. To be able to last a full round of boxing you need to be able to breathe. SO if you are holding your breath for a two minute or a three minute round it is not going to take you that long to too much energy.

When I am teaching boxing trainers how to teach one of the biggest mistakes I see is often with bigger men, they come in the gym and will be holding their breath as they hit the heavy bag.
If you can whistle while boxing with good techniques and good form, you know that you are relaxing during boxing.
My name is Tony Jeffries, Olympic Bronze medallist, former undefeated professional boxer and now co-owner of Box 'N Burn, 2 boxing fitness gyms in Los Angeles, as well as the Box 'N Burn Academy...this I sour education program where we teach trainers how to teach boxers (Link below). Welcome to my youtube channel. In this video, I will teach you how to breath better while relaxing. Breathing is one of the hardest things to do when boxing, it took me a year to be able to do it well. The reason why I am teaching you this is because if you are not doing it correctly you will burn your energy really fast.

The hardest part of controling ur breathing is dont over think n CONCONTRATE on breathingOUT the inhalation ul fund its self get that exhales out each punch or if holding pads good to breath out wen partner hots them will help ur guys defense n help ur timing if exhale as they hit pads n mind use exhale the inhale looks after itself only take deep breath well out range 👍👍👏👏👏

Breath through your nose! The jaws must remain closed to reduce the chances of a broken jaw. When puched in the ribs especially, breath out to absorb shock.

    • @craigsmith4990
      @craigsmith4990 3 месяца назад +1

Breathing through nose is normal breathing for regular everyday routines…when you’re fighting you could still have your jaws locked and do inhale and exhale and plus knowing your timing to do inhale and exhale cause boxing is based on correct timing when doing things. And no matter how you try to lock your jaw, certain hits to your jaw can cause the jaw to unlock.

I recently returned to training and I was surprised I could not last 1 session of padwork. I tot its purely stamina but now I noticed that I have been breathing out on my strikes, I forgot to breathe in and pretty much held my breath on the way out and then the second round of combos and then one more and I was done. After practising this and being mindful of being relaxed and remembering to breathe, I lasted round after round of padwork... indeed, its not just stamina, its proper breathing! Thank you sir!

Thanks, Tony for this video, it's such a vital part of boxing and many newcomers want to skip over practising routines to improve their technique.
Breathing, balance & breathing. My old S & C coach use to use the metaphor of a tire releasing air rapidly. Breathing is so important as it provides oxygen to the blood, improves endurance, and improves lung capacity.
I have tried Clenbuterol in the past and although I hated the overall feeling it made me feel like I had an extra lung - I wouldn't recommend it as it dramatically raises the heart rate, increases core body temperature etc, very dangerous.
I have found swimming forces people to learn to regulate (including myself) their breath. The whistle serves as an auditory 'anchor' which works well too - I often have to stop and 'reset'.
Keep the videos coming Tony, they are spot on.

Just started getting into boxing and at 375 pounds it's going to be a long road but I'm enjoying every minute. I come from a grappling background so learning striking is a major challenge for me and I know breathing was something I've struggled with so far.
You nailed it with "big guys come in trying to kill the bag and in 30 seconds their doubled over" and I just thought "shit, was this dude watching me when I first went in? lol"
Definitely gonna try that movement drill with the hands down as part of my pre-warmup. Much appreciated Tony.

Wow Tony that's very valuable teaching. And I'm sure other sports codes can relate to this but never teach breathing to cope with fast play and strength training.

I am watching your great videos every day from Sydney, Australia. I'm running for 50 minutes on a treadmill every day to increase my stamina. On top of breathing properly are there any other suggestions to last longer rounds?

You know...the whistle challenge is a first for me...I'm definitely gonna try that. That stuff looks cool.
